Object wrapping of grouped objects

When I group a bunch of objects (say some images and some text) and then set "object causes wrap" to "wrap text only above and below the object", the rule is applied individually to all the items in the group - meaning they can no longer be next to each other. My feeling is that the rule should be applied to the group as a whole and only cause wrapping in things around the group.
Is there another way to achieve this behaviour that I've missed? Or do people think this is a bug?

In the upper part, two pictures are grouped. The text wrap around the "sum" of the two rectangles.
In the lower part, the two pictures ares grouped with a rectangle enclosing both of them. The text wrap around it.
I assumed that it is what you where asking for.
Now, I know that the app is designed to work as it does in the top part : wrap around the "sum" of the grouped objects, not around the enclosing rectangle.
If we want to wrap around the enclosing rectangle, it's our duty to add the white rectangle.

Outlook 2013 - wrap text group policy applied, not working with or without digital signature

Hello,
I'm adding group policies to apply on our new installations of Windows 8.1 with Office 2013. One of the settings being applied is enforcing plain text emails and wrapping text at a certain number of characters. Policies are being added using the Outlook
2013 admx.
When I check the options inside Outlook 2013 the group policy did apply successfully (File, Options, Mail, scroll down to Message Format) The option to "Automatically wrap text at character:" is set to 132 and not adjustable as it should be.
In the group policy I have it set to wrap at 132 characters, but when I go to a client machine and send a digitally signed email, it wraps at the default 76 characters. This makes for very annoying short blocky emails and multi-line hyperlinks.
If I do not digitally sign the email then the text doesn't wrap at all! (until it meets the end of the window). So under no circumstances is it wrapping at 132 where it's supposed to.

Please also let me know the email format that you are sending, Plain Text, HTML or Rich Text Format.
You can try sending the same emails in Outlook Safe Mode:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.

Where to set creationPolicy and borderThickness for s:Group?

I'm porting a Flex 3.1 application to Flex4.5.
Here is the Flex 3.1 code:

Group's aren't skinnable. I think the intent is that they're job is simply to manage layout, so if you want a border, you wrap your group in another component like BorderContainer.
As for creationPolicy, I'm guessing that you're Canvas was being used in one of the mx Navigator classes (TabNavigator, Accordion, etc.). You can wrap your BorderContainer in a NavigatorContent component to manage creation policy.

Using region attributes to populate train skip property

It's been a while since I've looked at trains in 11g and now that I picked it up again I'm working on using the "skip" property of the train stop.
Back in this thread Adding EL expression to train skip property you suggested modifying the groupAdfcConfig template like :

The problem with this is that the skip values need to be provided at the region level (ie for each stop) rather than just once for the top level group. I've played around with the groupAdfcConfig template and now have it looking like

.. using the rendered property of the train region to populate the skip property. The problem I am currently facing is when I'm using a group region because there is no ${page.groupRegion} method. You simply default to ${page.group} for the group region to get the display name but the trouble with that is there is no method in the PGGroup class to retrieve the rendered attribute. For now, I've had to wrap the group region inside a region container just to be able to get the rendered attribute property back.
Is there a way I can access the rendered property of the group Region ?

Iwork Pages: regarding pictures

Can anyone teach me how to insert a picture in a pages document so that the words from the document will automatically move around and align themselves with the picture?
Sometimes when I insert a picture into a default frame it will do it for me. But, for some pictures it will go behind the words of the document when I move the picture.

Welcome to the forum.
Not quite sure what you are trying to do.
If you would like a caption under a picture. Make a shape with a text box under. Align the two, turn off word wrap and group them:
+Menu > Arrange > Group+
If you want the picture to move with the main text, then you need what is called an *In-line graphic.*
Hold down the command key and click on the edge of the image to get the shape the image is in. Then cut it and click into the text where you want it and paste. It will then act like a very large character in the text.

Using Process Runtime.getRuntime().exec

Here is a URL to a part of the current process I need to run. Actually there are 4 steps that preceed these but they are ran in order and must be done before these (that part is easy). Sorry it kinda chopped off the left side a little bit.
My question is, can I do this entirely using Runtime.getRuntime().exec() commands or do I need to involve multi threading. The reason I am asking is because P13 cannot run until P8 and P9 completes, but that shouldn't stop the rest of the program from running.
If I have something like

P4 and P2 will both be running in parallel (or as much as your OS and hardware allows them to be). As soon as both are done, and regardless of which finishes first, whatever follows P2.waitFor() will execute.
If you have multiple groups of processes, where the processes within a group must execute sequentially, but the groups themselves can run independently of each other, then you'll need to either use Java's threads, or wrap each group of sequential processes in a shell script or batch file the executes that group sequentially.
If there are complex dependencies among the groups--that is, multiple groups must wait on the same process, or one group must wait for multiple other groups, then it might be easier to control the concurrency in Java.

Copying database objects and data from one server database to another server database in AG group

Hi,
I am still trying to wrap my head around sql clusters and AGs and I have a project that requires I take a vendor's database and restore it weekly so its available on the production server which is clustered.
The vendor's database on the cluster is in an AG group and encrypted.
Right now, I plan to restore the database on a sql staging server and use the SSIS Transfer SQL Server Objects Task to copy the table structure and data from Stage to the Production database of same name and I would first drop the objects in production
database using the same task.
I am concerned that this might cause issues with the passive cluster due to "logging" from active to passive. The database is about 260 MBs and I am not sure how many tables.
Has anyone run into this type of scenario before or have a better solution?

IF I understand anything about clustered sql and logging, the sql server should take the log file and recreate the same scenario on the passive side of the cluster.

Yes, for AlwaysOn Availability Group, the transaction log is basically replayed from the primary to all of the secondary's.
Besides, from my point of view, as we cannot directly restore a database that is part of an Availability Group, it is a good way using SSIS task to drop and recreate all tables then transfer data from the restored database to the primary replica. Schema changes
and data changes will also happen on the secondary replica.

Grouping of objects

Hello,
Is there a way of grouping text and a graphic imported from another application? I want to move add text into the middle of a page without altering the format of the rest of the text.

I'm not quite sure what you are really asking. A text box and a graphic object can be grouped.
If you just want to have a graphic on one side of the page with some of the adjacent text narrower than the main column of text, setting the graphic to cause Wrap may do what you want. You can also separate the text in question from the other text with a Layout break before and after. This allows you to set wider margins for the affected text, as well as the white space before and after it.

Cursor not understanding to jump below "pasted in" group of objects...

So I have one large text box on the page and am pasting in the content bits at a time. Now, I have pasted in a group of objects. I am ready to continue pasting in more copy below the group, but the cursor does not understand to jump down below the last items pasted in - e.g. the group.
In order to position the copy, I need to hit return / enter on the keyboard quite a few times for it to be positioned below the group. This is incorrect and will mess up the flow. I want everything to flow as I add more / subtract content.
How do I get the cursor to "know" to keep moving forward and to go around the group and blink on the line directly below the grouping of objects?

Ghost objects causing wraps from templates after CS3 to CS5 upgrade

I've just upgraded to CS5 from CS3 and I have some weird things happening in my templates. As part of the basic design I have some grouped objects in the masterpages. These consist of a text box with a smaller image box placed over it (in effect a picture box story). The image has a wrap applied to it, the text box doesn't. Normally, when I bring the masterpage down, I can just releae the group and bring text into the text box and it will wrap round the image. What is happening now is that when the group is released, it seems to see a "ghost" of the grouped items and it wraps round the obejct as a whole (ie the whole group). There is nothing on page apart from the grouped items, yet the text keeps wrapping round an invisible object that appears to have the sam esize and position as the grouped items on the masterpage. What is going on, and how do I stop it?

Sorry. you're missing the point. I DO want the items. The problem is, when I "bring them to the live page" they are seeing an invisible version of the group underneath them, so the text in the text box wraps round the invisible object, if that makes sense. There is nothing on the live page for it to be wrappng round, but the problem centres on where the grouped items sit in the master page (moving the grouped items away from that spot makes them behave normally). Ungrouping the items on the masterpage solves the problem - but I would prefer to keep them grouped.
If you want to replicate, try this:
1) On a masterpage, draw a text box and put some text in it.
2) Draw a smaller image box, give it a wrap, and position it so it is over part of the text box (so that the copy in the text box acts as a caption for the image).
3) Group the items
4) Go to the live page and Apple Shift click to "release the group". The text (for me) now starts wrapping round the ghost of the grouped items (ie it tends to be pushed to overmatter).

I think I know what may have happened.
As I can see you are trying to create support for an updateable materialized view.
You have to make sure the name of the schema that owns the materialized view is the same as the schema owner of the master table (at master site).
From the code you have shown, I bet the owner of table EMP is SCOTT.
From the other hand, you want to create materialized view EMP_MV under schema KARTHIK that refers to table SCOTT.EMP at master site.
According to the documentation, the schema name used in DBMS_REPCAT.CREATE_MVIEW_REPOBJECT must be same as the schema that owns the master table.

I tried to reproduce your example in my environment, and I got exactly the same error which actually confirms my assumption that the reason for the error is the fact that you tried to create the materialized view in a schema with different name than the one where master table exists.
I'll skip some of the steps that I used to create the replication environment.

Text wrap around an achored object

I'm continually frustrated by a text wrap issue around an achored object in a story. I have two anchored textframes that are taking up the top half of a text frame, one of them has a full column text wrap applied to it which forces the first title of the regular text to begin beneath it. My issue is that sometimes this title falls too close to the anchored text frames but if I add space to the bottom of the text wrap, the title does not snug to the text wrap but will stay tight until the wrap adjustment invades the cap height and then it will suddenly jump way down what looks like the full line height of the style, creating way too much of a gap. I can't seem to get a clean even space between my anchored textframe and the first line of text. I'm doing hundreds of files with this set up and they are looking different because the anchored text frames are all different sizes and I can't get that space between them and the first title to be uniform. I'm sure I'm missing an option somewhere, but I can't figure out what it is. I want the first line of text to snug up to the edge of the text wrap, and it just won't do it. I've looked through all my style options and can't figure out what I'm missing. "Align to grid" is set to "None," and "Start Paragraph" is set to "Anywhere."
I'm really confused by this. Anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong or if I've run up against a limitation in the application?

Your "solution" does not work in this instance. The boxes you see in my image are the first things on that page. The anchor paragraphs are set to start in a new column so that they purposely start a new page. The story starts 3 pages before this and you can't have anchored objects more than a spread away from their anchors, so your solution simply does not work. I would have to break my lesson into multiple stories, which is the very thing I'm trying not to do to keep my workflow efficient.
It looks like it is a limitation of ID's anchored object workflow (which has never been ideal, but I'm trying to work with it). Unfortunately, tables are also not a safe solution because long tables used together with span/split column features cause ID to crash (predictably)--as far as I can tell, Adobe doesn't appear to be interested in fixing this bug. I've learned the hardway not to combine them in any workflow unless I want to restart ID multiple times a day.
In case you are wondering, this complicated workflow resulted from a shortcoming in ID anyway. I have to place the text in table cells so that I can use the SIde Heads plugin to pull them automatically into anchored objects. I have to anchor them into floating objects to get the rounded corners on background squares that is BEHIND the text. I could do it as tables in the flow of text if I could create anchored backgrounds with rounded corners that floated behind the tables, but unfortunately, ID will not let you change the stacking order of anchored objects--they always float in front and there is no option to push them behind--and tables are uniformly square and boring. I tried several times to create an easily automatable workflow for this project, and complicated as it is, this is the only one that actually works.
I will have to manually adjust the paragraph spacing and leading. That seems to be only adjustment that gives me the fine control that I want. I just wish it were consistent from document to document so I could set it in the style and not have to eyeball everything.

Text wrap in anchored objects

In order to place text boxes relative to the spine, I have placed them as anchored objects.
But now, these text frames do not respect text wrap setting from objects outside of the anchored object.
I have made sure that ignore text wrap in text frame options is not checked.
Is this a bug?
And does anyone know a workaround?

In order to make my design indifferent to later added pages, I have placed all text frames and graphic placeholders as anchored objects, positioning them relative to spine.
When I now place an object on top of such an anchored text frame, text wrap is not working, even if i overide the master page item.
The only work around I have found is to copy the respective text frame and make the original master page item unvisible.
Is there not another way to to this?
For me, the best would be another way of placing text and graphic frames relative to spine.
Bus as soon as one overrides the master page item, the object is not placed anymore relative to spine if another page is inserted.

CS4 text wrap over anchored object

Every time I place an anchored object (doesn't matter if it's graphic or text frame) and apply text wrap, Indesign freezes permanently and only solution is killing it via task manager.
I opened CS3 file with anchored objects w/ txt wrap and the same freeze happens when trying to move, delete or apply different wrap settings to object.
It never happened in previous version of ID on my machine.
Any solution to this problem? Thanks.

Determine all objects that a group has been assigned to

I am trying to determine all objects that a group has been assigned to. For example, I would like to know what communities and portletes a group has been assigned to.
I can retrieve the information directly from the plumtree database, however, I have not been able to determine how to accomplish this via the api.

I have verified that the group has been assigned to the community, however, this query returns no records.
How can I retrieve all communities or group that a specific group has been assigned too?

This sure would be a handy feature! iTunes has it so that you can easily tell which playlists a song is in. It would be convenient for iPhoto as well.
