Obtain IP address of instrument on LAN

I have an instrument that communicates with my LV driver over Ethernet. The IP address of the instrument is generated dynamically. If I go to Measurement & Automation Explorer and right click on Devices and Interfaces, select Create New, select VISA TCP/IP Resource, select Auto-detect of LAN Instrument, it dsiplays the Instruments IP address. How can I do this programmatically in LabVIEW? Also, how can I associate the Host Name of the instrument with the IP address returned?
Thanks!

Hello Jim
Have you tried using the Real-Time System Replication VIs
You can get it here: system Replication Tools
http://digital.ni.com/express.nsf/bycode/ex6hzw
You can then use the Functions>>Real Time>>RT Utilities>>Get Target Info (IP).vi to get a cluster of various information about the controllers network state.
This will dynamically give you the IP of the controller it will also work if you assigned a static one.
Good luck!

  • Obtain MAC address!!!

    Hi!
I am accessing one of the instrument through LAN. I have defined it's IP address manually so I can access it. But I want to change it's IP address though LAN. I think if I get the MAC address of the instrument without giving IP address so I can do it. I have VI which gives MAC address when input IP address. I don't wanna give IP address. I wanna find instrument from MAC address on LAN.

LabVIEW does not have lowlevel access to network functions.
You could use system exec to do a ping sweep of the subnet followed by an arp table listing (arp -a), then parse the resulting output.
If the device supports it, you can then change its IP remotely address via arp -s.
Still, I don't quite see the need for all that. Can you explain why you need this?

Assuming you have these accounts set up in Mail, open preferences and under Accounts tab, edit the SMTP outgoing server list. Do you have a .mac address in the list? If so, delete it.
    Are you using iCloud?
For the troubled account, select the correct SMTP server for that account in the box and check the box to use only that server with that account.

  • HP LJ8000n unable to obtain IP address

We have an old LaserJet 8000n that is unable to obtain an IP address. It has been working for the last 10 or so years. In the last two weeks or so, the printer is unable to get an IP address. I did a cold reset and nothing happens. The printer is setup to use DHCP to obtain IP address. I did also tried putting the IP address in manually but that does not work either. Below is the JetDirect configuration page printout.
    Any help/suggestion is much appreciated.

This seems to be a commercial product. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

  • Obtain IP address from Mac address

    Hi all,
Is ARD capable of obtaining IP addresses from mac addresses?
    Please advise.

ARD's System Overview can display IP addresses and MAC addresses for computers it manages. If you're asking whether ARD can scan a network for a particular MAC address and return the IP address for a computer that's not in ARD's list of managed computers, then no, it can't (at least not by any method I know of). ARD is really not a network scanning/management application; it's for managing Mac workstations.

  • Why does my Internet Sharing get stuck at "Obtaining IP address.."?

So I was trying to share my laptop's internet connection with my Android phone (HTC Desire X). I enabled the checkbox for Internet Sharing in System Preferences.
My phone detected the network. But when I tap on it, it gets stuck at "Obtaining IP address..". So, when connecting, I selected "static" as opposed DHCP and gave:
    IP: 192.168.1.1
    Gateway: 192.168.1.10
    Network prefix length: 24
    DNS 1: 8.8.8.8
    DNS 2: 8.8.4.4
Now it got connected, but still internet is still not working in the browser. Any ideas why?

  • Wi-Fi Obtaining IP address

Having a bit of a problem with my new Galaxy Tab.
I was able to connect onto my home Wi-Fi right out of the box.. no  problems..
But the next day, I turned the Tab back on and was unable to re-connect to my wi-fi.
It kept cycling from scanning for netwoks, it would find mine and say obtaining IP address then say disconnecting and it keeps going over and over... I found that I have to unplug and re-plug in my wireless router to get it to connect again..
Almost like it is not forgetting the old IP address from the day before...
I am NOT using a static IP and static IP is UNchecked in my setup.

Dont know if Samsung or anyone ever fixed this issue..but here is what I just stumbled upon.
My tab, like many others out here was having the problem where all of a sudden, you would get the obtaining IP address message and just get stuck there....
Stick with me on this one..... As I digress..
I, like others was tired of the fact that I could not delete all messages or empty my pop3 mail trash with just one push of a button as the mail client that comes with the tab does not have the ability to select all messages and then just hit delete...
I downloaded a new mail client from the android market (mail droid) as this program lets you delete multiple messages in one shot instead of one at a time....  Well... I love the program AND get this.. the obtaining IP address error that we have been getting has gone away...    Just to be sure, I uninstalled my new maildroid program and tried the default one provided with the tab and the error was back... Re-installed my new maildroid program again and problem solved again...
So.. it seems that the mail client provided with the tab is what is causing the tab to hang up when obtaining the IP address...

  • Obtain bad address bge0

    Hi
i was changing the ip address, gateway and dns of a sun solaris 9 machine. i have edited the files hosts, resolv and defaultrouter elsewhere. however, i forgot to copy the edited hosts file over and reboot the system. i thus obtained bad address bge0 and when ifconfig -a , it shows inet 0.0.0.0. have used terminal to get in and managed to use vi to create a file and mv to replace the hosts file. (hosts file is read only under vi). after reboot, inet still is 0.0.0.0. Have then use ifconfig command to change it and it manages to change to the required ip address. But the problem lies here, after reboot, the inet jumps back to 0.0.0.0 although the hosts file is correct now..
any one knows a solution to this? please..
    thanks

You also needed to edit /etc/hostname.bg0 in order to set an hostname. Also; just because a file is marked 'readonly' in vi doesn't mean you can't edit it. If you have the proper permissions (root) you can force vi to save your changes regardless of the lacking w permission flag using !.

  • How to obtain which address is selected during BP dialog (Address Overview)

For Business Partners enhancemnets we will use AREA-MENU :: BUPT (Business Data Tool Set) for business partner
In this we have so many events, we have create one function module and we will attach to the appropriate event so that our custom function module will be trigger when an address was selected in tab "Address Overview". We need to know which address was selected, so we have used local memory and we have called  BUP_BUPA_MEMORY_GET to obtaing business partner number and then BUA_BUPA_MEMORY_ADDRESS_GET to obtain the address. This last FM returns the standard address instead of the address which is selected. I have realised that inside the source code exists a global variable named gt_addr_new that contains all the addresses for the business partner, and one of them has the xmark field filled with an 'X' indicating which address is selected. However I have not found any bapi that returns that entry.
Any suggestion to achive this avoiding an standard modification?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Rosa Ferrando

    Hi,
    Check for  BAPI " BUP_MEMORY_BUT020_GET".
Get the address no form this  BAPI.
Take the address no and go to the database table BUT021_FS to get the address type.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem: The  wireless  client Obtaining IP address.

Problem: The  wireless client Obtaining IP address.
    Setup.
I have a fiber circuit which feedes my Wan port. Then
I made a local network that then I branch off to five other AirPort Extremes.
Acting as access points with a static IP for local network, with no security enable and extending the wireless network name is off.
With both types of models, the new & older all extreme models.
    Sym:
I can reset the head end airport router with will fix the problem for a day or so.
Question:Can the wireless client cause this type of problem. the reason I asked, everything was working fine for the last 2 two years until I added a new access point. I have change it out with another unit which did not help the dhcp problem.
So my thinking either my head end router is starting to go bad with DHCP or a wireless client interaction may be locking up DHCP until I restart the router again.
Has any one had the same type of problems with DHCP???

    Thanks for the quick response.
The first option sounds like I need some  type of wireless software which at the moment I'm not utilizing so don't know how to do that.
option 2 also sounds foreign to me ! ;-)
Can you add some details or point me to any links you can ref me to so I can try to familiarize myself with these options ?
    Regards

  • Slate 21 Pro - Obtains IP address but no Internet connectivity

    Hi all,
I have a Slate 21 Pro with no internet connectivity at home.  The device obtains an IP address via DHCP on either wired or wireless networks, but when attempting to browse or access internet-based resources, it simply times out. I've also tried manual IP address assignment with no success. If I take the tablet to a local wi-fi cafe, it connects fine, but I can't get it to work at home. My ISP is Baja Broadband, a 50MB/5MB cable connection  Local network details below:
    * Arris T822G cable modem - ISP-provided, no routing or firewall capability, just a plain old modem
    * Cisco/Linksys E3000 wi-fi router - internal network gets NAT'ed here. no filtering, nothing fancy
    * Netgear 24-port managed gigabit switch
I've tried bypassing the internal network and connecting the Slate 21 Pro directly to the cable modem via wired Ethernet. Same problem - it obtains an IP address (a public IP in this case) but will not connect to any internet sites. HP sent me a replacement unit which displays the exact same problem. Both units work fine at the wi-fi cafe.
(OS is Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. I could take the unit to the wi-fi cafe and see if there's any OTA updates available if anyone thinks that might help.)
I'm a network engineer with 25 years IT experience. My home network is a mature network with no known problems. Connected to this network and functioning perfectly are: 2 iPhones, a Roku box, an LG smart TV, 2 Macs, 4 Windows PCs. Previously had 2 HP Touch tablets which were also fine. Home visitors are able to connect their phones and tablets to our wi-fi with no problems. It's *just* the Slate 21 Pro which is misbehaving.
    I'm stumped. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Steve
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

UPDATE: This is resolved. I discovered I was able to access Internet sites by IP address but not by hostname. There was something wonky with the ISP-provided DNS server. Once I substituted a different DNS server in the IP config, it works.
    Weird!

  • Secure way to obtain host address

I'm doing a simple RMI project that guarantees a secure communication between a server and client residing on different computers.
So, for communication, I thought of using RMISocketFactory, with an SSLSocket.
My problem resides in obtaining the host address, I don't want it hard-coded in my program.
What secure ways do I have for obtaining an host address?
Encrypt in a text file and read from it?
    Regards, Nuno.

    >
What secure ways do I have for obtaining an host address?
Encrypt in a text file and read from it?Yes, but only if a person has to provide the password to decrypt the file every time the program starts. Otherwise, you have to hardcode the password in the app, and if you're going to do that, you might as well just hardcode the password.
Another alternative would be to put the address in a plain text file, but make that file readable only by the user id that runs the app.
It's impossible to know whether any particular solution is viable for you however, without knowing the details of your requirements and constraints.

  • SQL Cluster - Unable to obtain IP Address from System Center IP Pool

    Hi everyone,
we are trying to deploy a SQL cluster into a windows azure pack tenant cloud.
    Our azure pack environment contains:
    - 4X Hyper-V server in a failover cluster
    - 1X SCVMM server
    - multiple WAP server
    Steps we have done:
    -    Windows failover cluster is installed and configured successfully
    -    Quorum disk was configured successfully
    -    SQL server 2014 installation (via static IP) is successfully. But routing between the VMs is not possible.
    -    SQL server 2014 installation (via DHCP) fails at the end of the installation with following error:
-> We used DHCP to obtain an IP from the scvmm IP pool.

    Hi Darryl,
    thanks for your supply.
We don't have an DHCP in the Cloud. System Center DHCP is used for assigning IP addresses and routing inforamtion to the vms.
This works fine for assigning IP addresses to the vms.
At my current point of understanding network virtualisation with system Center, we do not have an alternative to this way of assigning IP addresses.
    Kind Regards

  • Addressing another mac over LAN

    Hi,
I have scripts I want to run in crontab - they run fine. but I don't know how!
I am rsync'ing files from one mac to another. Both macs have the same naming on their two disks.
    i.e. both have /Volumes/Work
I have to use /Volumes/Work-1 to access the other mac.
I don't understand what protocol is used for this LAN sharing. I am confused as i have three macs and all have a /Volumes/Work drive... so how does it know which one to access?
It's easy with SMB, as you actually address the IP of the remote machine... or rsync using [email protected] - but this method of just using two paths is hard to understand.
So, if I don't first open finder, and browse to the remote mac, to setup the relationship, how could I address the /Volumes/Work path on the remote mac (given that the local mac also has the same path)

    figured out myself
    mkdir /Volumes/Work-1
    mount_afp afp://user:[email protected]/Work/ /Volumes/Work-1
