OC4J configuration choices help - instances, islands or processes

I need advice about the architecture for an OC4J environment. We need to do the following:
The internet request comes over a firewall to a load balancer.
This request will be routed to 1 or more OHS services.
These OHS services will by using OC4j loadbalancing re-route over a firewall to 1 or more OC4J instances. All transactions are stateless. I am aware that I can create the following layouts for 4 identical inital OC4J proceses.
Question 1: which one is best and why
layout one: 4 OC4J instances - 1 island - 1 process
layout two: 1 OC4J instances - 4 islands - 1 process
layout three:1 OC4J instances - 1 island - 4 proceses
Question 2: I am right in saying that I do not want to cluster the instances as I will be left with a single point of failure.

Hi,
yes, on metalink you get in touch with real experts....
You have to install serveral application servers to get different ORACLE_HOMEs.
For each one, you can install a BPEL PM.
But: For each BPEL PM you need your own database instance, or you have to configure them as a clustered BPEL installation.... (but i do not know if this work with non RAC DBs)

  • Creating a new work item instance in a process using PAPI

    I'm seeing that there are a lot of questions on this forum about using Oracle BPM 10g's Java API called PAPI.
    I just uploaded a step by step document on how you could do this using JDeveloper 11. Here's the link to this document: http://www.4shared.com/file/126507332/e814a3a8/CallingPapi.html. The Oracle BPM project I used for this step-by-step document is also in this zip file. If you're curious, this also describes how to download, install and start JDeveloper 11.
    This is not formal Oracle documentation, but I know from teaching our Oracle BPM Bootcamp class that getting PAPI to work is sometimes a challenge and thought this might help. I tried to write it with the "Java Newbie" in mind so do not panic if you aren't an expert in Java (I'm sure not ?:| ).
    This is a simple example that uses most of the logic found in the PAPI documentation on http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13154_01/bpm/docs65/papi/index.html?t=modules/papi/c_Head_PAPI.html in the "Writing Your First Java PAPI Program" section of this document.
    The document provides a step-by-step description on how how to use PAPI to:
    <li> interface to processes running on an Oracle BPM Enterprise Engine using the same logic that is in the Oracle BPM PAPI documentation
    <li> interface to processes running on an Oracle BPM Studio Engine
    <li> list processes currently running on the Engine using the same logic that is in the Oracle BPM PAPI documentation
    <li> list the work item instances running on the Engine using the same logic that is in the Oracle BPM PAPI documentation
    <li> create a new work item instance in a process and pass in input argument variables to the new instance as it is created.
    Hope you find this useful,
    Dan

    Hi
    i have gone through your example. It gives good information how to connect to BPM engine through java papi client. I have followed exactly the same steps given in the PDF document. But it throws the exception on both java client side and BPM Suite.
    Steps followed :
    1. Import sampleproject.exp into Oracle BPM studio and start the BPM engine.
    2. Imported the fuegopapi-client.jar and Write the JAVA PIPA client to connect Oracle BPM Engine.
    complete example code:_
    import fuego.papi.CommunicationException;
    import fuego.papi.InstanceInfo;
    import fuego.papi.ProcessService;
    import fuego.papi.ProcessServiceSession;
    import fuego.papi.OperationException;

    System.out.println(" -> " + instance.getId());
    /////////////////// Close the session ///////////////////
    session.close();
    /////////////////// Release API Resources ///////////////////
    processService.close();
    } catch (CommunicationException e) {
    System.out.println("Could not connect to Directory Service");
    e.printStackTrace();
    } catch (OperationException e) {

    Please suggest me what to do and how to rectify. Can we work with forms without this component. I am getting the same component failure when I install 9IAS option on infrastructure.
    With best regards and Thanks
    Varma.

    Hi,
    Thank you for the information. I installed 3 times but still the same problem persists. Apache is working fine. Hosts file also configured with the same system IP. Is this component important for executing 9i forms and reports. Is there any way to install this component alone.
    Can u suggest any good document about installation and configuration of Oracle 9i application for a layman in Oracle 9iAS. if you have any documents can u send them to [email protected]
    Waiting for your replay....

  • How to query the current instance size of an instance of a process

    Hello guys,
    I'm currently doing a Capacity Plan for my BPM enviroment and I would like to know the current instance size of different kind of processes deployed in my environment. I'll need this to calculate an average instance size per process. The main reason for this capacity plan is that our environment instance size is configured to more then 1000kb(don't know what kind of issues occurred in the past that led to this exceeded value configured) and I don't want to leave this configuration but I can't be safe decreasing it without know if our production environment will start launching the "Max Instance Size Exceeded" error.
    Is there any way to fetch this information? Any API or SQL Query where I can find this information?
    Thanks for any help.
    Regards,
    Luiz
    Edited by: Luiz Rocha on 30/04/2009 16:50

    Hi, Luiz!
    In order to estimate the instance size, you will have to sum up all the instance variables size.
    From the practical prospective it may be difficult to use the algorithm in cases when your instance variables are not simple types.
    For already existing instances, you can look the instance size in the database:
    An instance is just a java object, that is serialized as a byte[] and stored in the engine database, PPROCINSTANCE table, column INSTDATA.
    You can write a simple program (either java or SQL plus) that would read the instance from the BLOB and measure the size.
    And yes, with large instances you can have performance problems.

    Hi Chris
    If you are trying to create a LOV and use that as a parameter, then you need to create LOV as Dynamic Cascading values. Once created then you can use that LOV in the Crystal Reports.
    This is the best way to get dynamic cascading prompts in Crystal reports.
    Please refer to Business View Admin guide for more information.
    Hope this helps!!

    Hello;
    I'm thinking this step was either missed of you have a typo :
    Change the entry of .bash_profile file of the oracle user and add following lines:
    vi /home/oracle/.bash_profile
    export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/home/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/lib
    export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATHIf your ORACLE_HOME is set it should find the "emca".
    You can test by running these export commands at the Linux prompt.
    The which command is your friend
    which emca

    Hi,
    Seems you have not extracted downloaded zip files into same directory. In that case you get error like
    java.io.FileNotFoundException:
    /Disk2/database/stage/Components/oracle.rsf.hybrid/11.1.0.6.0/1/DataFiles/filegroup12.jar (A file or directory in the path name does not exist.)
    java.io.FileNotFoundException:
    /Disk2/database/stage/Components/oracle.rsf.hybrid/11.1.0.6.0/1/DataFiles/filegroup5.jar (A file or directory in the path name does not exist.)
    Also after installation dbca will throw error.
    Try the below
    For AIX platform:
    unzip in the same folder
    $ mkdir 1120
    $ mv aix.ppc64_11g_database_1of2.zip  1120
    $ mv aix.ppc64_11g_database_2of2.zip  1120
    $ cd 1120
    $ unzip aix.ppc64_11g_database_1of2.zip
    $ unzip aix.ppc64_11g_database_2of2.zip
    $ cd database
    $ ./runInstaller
    This is true for all platforms on which you get two .zip files to download
    For Windows 64 bit example on 11.2.0.1 you can do the following  :
    - create a directory C:\tmp\1120
    - copy winx64_11g_database_1of2.zip and winx64_11g_database_2of2.zip under  C:\tmp\1120
    - unzip winx64_11g_database_1of2.zip and winx64_11g_database_2of2.zipunder  C:\tmp\1120
    Thanks,

  • Need help in optimizing the process

    I need help in optimizing my process. Here is what am I doing:
    I have two tables table A and table B. table A has list of names and table B has name and ID. Right now I am loading name into cursor from table A and for each name from the cursor I try to match with name in table B to get the ID. This process takes very long to complete. I need help to replace PL/SQL with SQL if possible. I am using oracle utl_match to match the best possible record in table B. table B sometimes returns multiple matching records. I take the top nearest match name and ID for my use (there is not always one to one match)
    Any idea or help will be appreciated. Thanks

    always provide create table and sample data instert statements when asking a question. also, provide your database version.
    because you're using utl_match, you can't really use an index, there must be a cartesian join on the two tables so it may always be slow.
    however, here's a sample SQL that you may be able to make use of:
    with n as (select 'KATHERINE' person_name from dual
                 union all
                 select 'STEVE' from dual
                 union all
                 select 'BRUCE' from dual)
        ,nid as (select 'CATHERINE' person_name, 1 NID FROM DUAL
                 union all
                 select 'STEFAN', 2 from dual
                 UNION ALL
                 select 'STEVEN', 2 from dual
                 union all
                 select 'CATHY',3 from dual)
    select n_name, nid
      from (
            select n.person_name N_NAME
                  ,nid.person_name
                  ,nid.nid
