OC4J with DHCP

Hi,

Can you confirm that OC4J 903 standalone works happily in a DHCP network environment?
I have used it in such an environment with success, is it supported by Oracle in such an environment?

Many thanksYes, OC4J works happily in a DHCP environment. Although, if it is being accessed as a server from clients, and the lease on the IP address expires and a new IP address is given, the clients will need to use the new IP address. How do you envisage clients locating the server? If it's by domain name, then you'd need to make sure you had a DNS server that could map DHCP IPs to names correctly. If it's by direct IP, then you'd need to notify the clients if the DHCP address of the server machine changes.
I don't see why using DHCP would not be supported with OC4J standalone and haven't seen anything to say that it's not.
It'd be worth putting in a call to Oracle support and ask them for their view on this.
On the 9iAS DHCP point, the last I heard was that we were looking at how to resolve it for the next release. I will need to check on the status of that and get back to you.

    This warning means it is not recommended to install Oracle 10g on a DHCP assigned IP address. It could work, but you won't be able to configure Enterprise Manager, since this tool requires a fixed IP address. If possible, have the IP address fixed.

  • Cisco 891 not getting IP address with DHCP with latest IOS

    Hi,
    I have a few Cisco 891 routers that are configured as DHCP clients on the WAN interface.
    For some reason when I boot the router with a late IOS, the router is not receiving an address.
    It works just as expected with the older IOSes.
    Any ideas of what changed?
    This is how the interface is configured:
    interface FastEthernet8
     ip address dhcp
     no ip redirects
     no ip unreachables
     no ip proxy-arp
     duplex auto
     speed auto
     no cdp enable
    This IOS does not work:
    c890-universalk9-mz.154-3.M2.bin
    While these do work:
    c890-universalk9-mz.150-1.M7.bin
    c890-universalk9-mz.151-2.T2.bin
    c890-universalk9-mz.152-1.T1.bin
    Doing a "show ip interface brief" shows that FastEthernet8 is unassigned with the affected IOS.
    With the older IOSes there is an IP address.
    I had to downgrade two routers due to this issue, and did not have  plenty of time to troubleshoot.
    Both of the routers are connected to DSL from the same ISP...
    Anyone seen anything like this  before?

    Add another one to the list.
    I have a MacBookPro3,1 that connects to WIFI no problem. It used to connect to ethernet when I originally bought it, however I've been using WIFI exclusively for the past 2 years.
    Recently I had a need to connect via ethernet and it wouldn't work at home (apple airport router). I next tried connecting via ethernet at a friends house using a linksys WRT54G, no dice either. I have the computer in the lab today (University Network) and I get the same error. 3 different locations, 3 different routers, all same problem. It used to connect to home and university networks ethernet right away.
    IP address assigned is 169.xxx.xxx.xxx - subnet - 255.255.0.0
    no other info. It's showing up as connecting to the network, but unable to communicate with DHCP. It does work if I enter all of the information in manually.
    At first I thought I had messed something up in networking preferences as I tend to play around with things alot. However I did a complete system format, and fresh install of OSX Lion and I still have the same problem, without any of my meddling around to confuse things.
    What gives?

  • ISG with DHCP Option 82 sessions

    Greetings, I'm looking to roll out a GPON deployment using the ISG as our BRAS with DHCP-based sessions but we are experience some problems with session restart.  Were using an external DHCP server and RADIUS.  Sessions come up fine the first time, but if there is an existing session and the CPE node is rebooted the session get's "stuck". To clear the session we turn off the CPE device, clear the state in the GPON shelf and wait for more than 5 minutes.  Doing some debug shows the SG-DPM process thinking there is an existing DHCP lease that seems to clear out after five minutes of "silence".  I'd like to get this five minutes down to something in the less than 60 seconds range.  Anybody know of any knobs to tweak this?

    I don't know if this matter but my java version is:

    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_31-b13)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.31-b07, mixed mode)
    Any ideas or am I missing something completely?
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi, Andy. Please excuse my ignorance, I am very new at this ME embedded stuff. I had my challenges, but was finally able to get my board up with a static address. I went through a lot of headaches, but finally got the board flashed with the latest bin. I then updated the jwc_properties.ini file on the SD card to include:
    # Whether static configuration or DHCP server is used do get IP address. Possible values: dhcp,static
    ip.method = static
    # IP address,used with static IP configuration only
    ip.addr = 192.168.0.30
    # Network mask,used with static IP configuration only
    ip.netmask = 255.255.255.0
    # Network gateway,used with static IP configuration only
    ip.gateway = 192.168.0.1
    # DNS server,used with static IP configuration only
    ip.dns = 208.67.222.222
    # MAC address
    mac.addr = 01:02:03:04:05:06
    I was then put the card into the board, disconnected both USB cables, and then powered it up. From that point I was able to ping the board. I can now use Device Manager in NetBeans to connect to the device.
    I am struggling quite a bit with many issues. It seems that when I try to stop the app from NetBeans, the "please wait" dialog hangs forever. I have to use Windows Task Manager to kill the "JavaW" process tree and reconnect the board.
    I have also had trouble understanding the GPIO pin assignments. Another gotcha was trying to use the AutoStart feature. Since the sample app never cleanly exited, I thought that I bricked the board. The secret is to power it down, remove the SD card, and then delete all files EXCEPT the jwc_properties.ini file, put the SD card back in, then power up. It seems that the board forgets that the MIDlet was installed.
    Hope this helps others out there.
    Please everybody, post your experiences here. There seem to be very few of us, and finding pearls in the dust is rare right now.
    Regards,
    Pete

  • Verizon DSL with DHCP and PPPoE

    Hello,
    I recently signed up for Verizon DSL (with a Westell 6100 modem) and I am connecting to it through a graphite Airport base station. It was initially set to use DHCP in the TCP/IP section. It would connect to the internet properly but after I stop using my computer for a few hours, I have to restart the base station in order to get the connection again. It was annoying to say the least.
    Then switch to using PPPoE instead of DHCP. Now it works OK. Everytime I turn on my Mac, all I have to do is select my wireless network and I'm connected.
    Could someone explain to me why, with DHCP, I had to restart my base station everytime?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hock, Welcome to the discussion area!
    If your ISP requires PPPoE, it sounds like yours does, then you must PPPoE. Using DHCP in that situation usually doesn't work at all. You must have a neighbor or someone else on the network with an active DHCP server. Your ISP won't like that when they discover it.

  • Graphite ABS cannot connect with DHCP

    I'm trying (and failing) to set up an (ancient) Graphite Airport Base Station (with latest firmware) in my boss' office.
    We get our net feed through a DSL modem using DHCP, and this wired configuration works fine:
    DSL modem --- (cat5 cable) ---> Mac
    With this setup the mac gets an IP around 208.xxx
    What I want to get working is
    DSL modem --- (cat5 cable) ---> Airport Base Station
    I use the Airport Setup Assistant (For Graphite), set it for DHCP, it resets the Base Station and seemingly finishes without error. I get a nice strong signal from the base station, but the base station does not connect to the outside world. Web pages will not load, ping does not work through console.
    Running the Airport Admin Util, I have
    Connect using: Ethernet
    Configure: Using DHCP
    IP address: 192.42.249.12
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Router Address (blank, ***?)
    DNS: 10.0.1.1 (err...?)
    The IP# looks odd, not having a router address looks odd, DNS looks odd.
    I see the ABS Graphite is on the list of products that require a crossover cable if connected to a few other Apple products, but it is ambiguous if it needs one when connected to a DSL modem. I take this to mean I might need to buy a crossover cable instead of the patch cables I have been trying to use?
    FWIW, I took the Airport Base Station home and set it up fine using a static IP number, but I can't seem to get set up with DHCP.
    Thanks in advance
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    So it isn't odd that I would need a crossover cable to use it with DHCP, but a non-crossover cable worked fine when I set it up with a static IP?
    If I'm reading your post above, you got it to work at home with a static IP address but can't get it to work in the boss's office with DHCP. It is entirely possible that the device that you connected the graphite AirPort base station (ABS) to at home has an auto-sensing Ethernet port and therefore you didn't need the crossover cable.
    Using static vs DHCP IP addresses has absolutely nothing to do with the physical Ethernet connection requirements.
    Also... be aware that the graphite AirPort base station (ABS) can not communicate with some cable or DSL modems. Back when the graphite ABS was the only game in town, we frequently had to recommend connecting a different router to the modem and then connecting the graphite ABS to the router.

  • Logging Garbage collector for an OC4J with 2JVM

    Hi, I have one OC4J with two JVM setted.
    If I put -verbose:gc it logs in the std Output file.
    I trying to log the garbage collector in two different file each one for one JVM.
    Anyone as an idea?

    Don't create massive amounts garbage memory. It's that simple. You should try to limit the creation of memory inside your animation loop. If there is a process inside the loop that creates memory, there is definitely some way to create that item staticly, rather than allocating new memory with each iteration. There shouldn't be any kind of problem that would involve the creation of THIS much memory, and it's deallocation. If you read about how the garbage collector is implemented, you'll notice that it stores all of it's memory on a single conveyor belt. This is for ALL memory in the program. Therefor once the garbage collector has gone through and marked all of the memory that needs to be reclaimed, it performs it's sweep and must feeze the entire program because that conveyor belt can not be manipulated while it's re-arranging the memory. The garbage collector will eliminate MOST memory leaks, but it does not eliminate any thought on the part of the programmer about memory.

    Hi All,

    looking forward for help.
    thanks in advance,
    Sudha

    I assume the Web Cache you have is the 9.0.2.0 standalone. First of all, patch your Web Cache 9.0.2.0 standalone to the latest level you can find on Metalink. This is currently 9.0.2.2bp1 (on Solaris).
    (You can use Web Cache 9.0.2.x with OC4J 9.0.3.x.)
    Next, follow the steps in the Oracle9iAS Web Cache Administration and Deployment Guide, accessible from OTN. Chapter 6 of this guide is a good place to start, although Parts I and II are useful in their entirety.
    Your basic steps are going to be:
    - access the Web Cache Manager admin UI (hostname:4000 is the default); default uname/pwd is administrator/administrator
    - make sure Web Cache is listening on the desired port(s)
    - define a site
    - configure application web server settings (in this case, your OC4J standalone) from which to fetch fresh content
    - configure site-to-server mappings; you can map more than one application server to a site (enables load balancing)
    - configure caching, compression and expiration rules and/or modify your application to use ESI
    - don't forget to apply changes and restart
    Still, I would really advise using the manual and online help to get started. It's easy once you grasp the concepts described in the manual.

  • Failing to execute  Check: systems configured with DHCP

    Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned public IP addresses. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.

    Why is Oracle failing to execute the check? What sort of check does Oracle run for DHCP IPs?

    Thanks

    A server is not supposed to work with DHCP but with a fixed IP address. Enterprise Manager DB Control Console will only work with a fixed IP address, if ever either the IP or the hostname change then EM won't work any more unless it is reconfigured.
    The purpose of the loopback adapter is to provide a fixed IP address on a dynamic assigned environment. You should make sure once you fix the IP address by means of DHCP to name this IP address in the host file at c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\host.

    Try OC4J with the VM installed with JDeveloper. Also, you might want to try 1.3.1_02 (just to see if that works on your machine)

    You must implement SSL using the mod_ssl Module of Apache. OC4J does not support SSL on it's own.
    Look for mod_ssl in the apache documentation for further details.
