Oci.dll and Win XP & Win 7

In our product we release the following DLL's to prevent the Oracle client needing to be installed:
oci.dll
ociw32.dll
Oracle.DataAccess.dll
orannzsbb11.dll
oraocci11.dll
oraociicus11.dll
oraops11w.dll
These exist in the same directory as our application.
However we have realised that one element of our software uses OleDb to query the database. This means that the Oracle Client needs to be installed.
On an XP machine that has the Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Client (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit) installed, when it queries the database we get a Bound Error: No message available
If we run it on Windows 7 we get no error and the data is returned successfully.
What we have found to fix the issue is to delete the oci.dll from the C:\app\Mark\product\11.2.0\client_1\bin directory
I think we are using the latest Client, (please advise if we're not) but is this a bug in the client and should the files exist in the C:\app\Mark\product\11.2.0\client_1\ directory and not the bin?
If its not a client bug can you help us to understand what's going on?
Thanks

If you have the full client installed anyway, you may want to just remove the other oracle dlls from your app bin directory and use the full client that's already installed.
With full client, oci.dll should be in %ORACLE_HOME%\bin.
With ODAC (which comes with instant client), oci.dll should be in %ORACLE_HOME%.
You may want to use Process Explorer and/or Process Monitor to see what libraries are actually loaded (or are trying to load). I suspect you'll see that you have dlls coming from multiple homes.
I think there may be a difference in dll search path between XP and Win7 which you should be able to find info for on Microsoft's site which may help.
Hope it helps,
Greg

  • Missing oci.dll and failed to load php_oci8.dll

    Hey,
I'm very new to oracle and php, i need help in connecting to oracle using oci_connect()
I have an issue connecting to remote database installed on a VM running windows server 2003, both oracle instant and db are on that box (oracle 9i). Is there a way to connect straight to that?
if not, i have installed oracle instant 10g basic on my local machine (running windows 7 enteprise). I also set PATH to c:\instant_client_10g\instant_client and created tnsnames.ora in that directory. I have also set TNS_ADMIN to point to that directory. Not to mention uncommenting ;extension='php_oci8.dll' in php.ini However when i start apache (using XAMPP), i got this error
The propgram can't start because OCI.dll is missing from your computer and PHP Startup: Unabe to load dynamic library 'C:\xampp\php\ext\php_oci8.dll' ect
When i run phpinfo() obviously oci8 is not displayed
    Please Help!! Thanks in advance

To the httpd.conf file add the following directives.
    # For PHP 5
    LoadModule php5_module "C:/PHP/php5apache2_2.dll"
    AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
    # configure the path to php.ini
    PHPIniDir "C:/PHP/"
If PHP 5.2.x is installed in a directory other than C:/PHP, replace C:/PHP with the directory in which PHP 5.2.x is installed. If PHP 5.0.x or PHP 5.1.x is installed instead of PHP 5.2.x, install Apache Http server version 2.0.x instead of version 2.2.x. With the PHP 5.0.x/5.1.x-Apache server 2.0.x combination specify the following directives instead of those in the previous listing in the httpd.conf file.
    # For PHP 5
    LoadModule php5_module "C:/PHP/php5apache2.dll"
    AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
    # configure the path to php.ini
    PHPIniDir "C:/PHP/"
If PHP 6.0 is used with Apache server 2.2.x specify the following directives in httpd.conf.
    # For PHP 6
    LoadModule php6_module "C:/PHP/php6apache2_2.dll"
    AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
    # configure the path to php.ini
    PHPIniDir "C:/PHP/"

  • Help!my application can not load oci.dll

i have a server with windows 2003 enterprise sp2, oracle 10g was installed on it.now i want to run a .net application, but it's not working, cause oci.dll can not be loaded. then i installed PL/SQL and instant client 11g. but still not working. the error is :"initialization is error, can not load oci.dll.....returned 0". also,i wroted a small application to load oci with win32 api(LoadLibrary) and returned 0 too.
I'm sure there are no 32bit,64bit things. from os to application,32bit was checked. and i changed server but same os ,same oracle, after application and instant client installed, same problems got. so i'm think about is there any conflicts when oracle 10g and odac/instant client work together

If you have Oracle 10 installed on a Windows computer, you have oci.dll.
If "oci.dll can not be loaded", the problem is not a lack of oci.dll.
The first thing you should do is uninstall Instant Client and anything else you installed to fix the problem (I don't know what you mean with "install PL/SQL").
Then check if oci.dll can be loaded, e.g. by starting sqlplus and connecting to a database.
If that works, oci.dll is fine.
If your program cannot load oci.dll, something in your setup has a problem.
Maybe it cannot find oci.dll and you have to tell it where to look.

  • How to Get Proper Video Screen Captures (Screencasts) of Photoshop and Lightroom in Win?

Hello. I would like to get proper screen captures of Lightroom and Photoshop on Win 7/64, showing all screen elements as you see them. I tried FastStone Capture 8 and SnagIt 11.1, but they have various differing issues. Do you have a good hint?
What's more: In my screen capture, i also want a mouse-click-sound each and every time the mouse is clicked. This is not "system audio", because the computer doesn't play a sound for every ordinary click. The capture software must add that sound. (I'm aware i can add the sound manually in post production, but want it recorded together with video.)
Experience with Faststone Capture 8's video captures:
    I get well usable footage
Does optionally record mouse-click-sound for each click, with adjustable volume
Does not properly record some elements of Photoshop or Lightroom screens:
      - cursors sometimes look rough or double-sized
    - Lightrooms "TAT (Target Correction Tool)" disappears while being dragged on the image
    - the color selector box of Lightroom's Adjustment Brush is not shown, while the cursor working within that color selector box is shown
    - Lightroom's three-second-splash-message after Undo etc. is not shown
(All these missing elements do show up in *still* captures with Faststone Capture. They also *do* show up in video captures done with SnagIt, see below)
Experience with Snagit 11.1's video captures:
Does properly capture all those elements that FastStone does *not* capture (listed above)
Does *not* optionally include a mouse-click-sound for each and every mouse click (they record "system audio", but a sound on every click is not "system audio", so a regular click on a menu item has no sound)
Videos are less smooth, cursor sometimes "jumping"
Now, do you know a screen capture software for Win 7 that can
properly record *anything* that's seen within Lightroom and Photoshop
and automatically add a mouse-click-sound for each and every click i do
and produce smooth footage without "jumping cursors"?
    Thanks for your real-life experiences!

Myles, thanks again, here are my findings with Camtasia:
    Camtasia:
DOES record overlays like adjustment brush's colour selector
.camrec format isn't offered for recording, only .trec and .avi (on Win 7), but trec is usable just as .camrec i guess
Exported MP4 looks blurry and has colour blotches, that are not visible in the initial recording, only after exporting; this doesn't change at all after setting very high quality MP4 options; i guess i didn't look properly
i see how to add mouse-click sounds; i don't like the sound they provide so much; maybe it can be exchanged.
    Other tests:
    Camstudio:
mouse click sounds very weird (my mistake?)
does NOT record LR overlays like adjustment brush's colour selector
    Screen-cast-o-matic, optionally online, free version:
DOES record overlays like adjustment brush's colour selector. Mouse-click-sound not in free version. "System audio" is promised in paid version, but that does not necessarily mean a sound for each mouse-click. Contacted support for more
Straightforward using, lots of short video tutorials (useful for absolute beginners).
Free downloaded program 1.4 only works on primary monitor, the online launched app also records on secondary monitor
Don't see option to record a "window", only set resolutions
    More "jumpy" than Faststone
More interesting pro-version seems to be rent-only-licenced, at 15 USD per year, not a one-time-buy

  • COM+ and OLEDB - memory leak in OCI dlls

    Hi forum,
I've a COM+ DLL written in C++ which uses OLEDB(Oracle 8.1.7 provider) to reach to the 8i database. I've observed that after some 1000 database activities the DLLhost.exe hogs on memory to the tune of 50MB and never releases the same. I also saw the same behavior with a Win32 console application. For some reason the Uninitialize of the IDBIntialize does not seem to reduce the memory. I also ran bounce checker on my code. And its pointing to the OCI dlls for a memory leak of 18K per each database activity.
I downloaded the OLEDB sample code(VCOLEMRecordsSample) from the OTN site:-
    http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/windows/ole_db/oledb8/index.html
This also seems to hold on to memory after successive run of SQL queries.
Is there anything that I am missing. I am curious about the fact that it happens with the sample app hosted on the OTN site. Do I need some OCI patches to be applied to the client? In fact, applied couple of them, but does not help.
    Appreciate any pointers!

I am using 8.1.7.3.2. In fact I applied this patch recently.
Also today I detected a memory leak in my code.
After GetColumnsInfo() call I was not releasing the last param(ppStringsBuffer).
This seems to have fixed the problem. I tried running the win32 console app for 5,000 runs(each run has 2 SQL queries and 1 stored proc). The peak mem usage stays stable around 26MB and the mem usage varies from 8MB to 26MB. I guess this is fine, any info?

You might try posting this in the Developer Suite forum. Developer Suite does not use ODBC and the OCI DLL is not part of the ODBC driver, so this probably isn't the best forum.

  • How do I stop Win7 from breaking my software? Ole32.dll and "Power" service suspected culprits.

Hello and thanks for any help with this.
I built a new computer for my aunt and her one major request is that she still be able to use her card maker software Creatacard (yes misspelled just like that) by American Greetings. I thought this would be no issue, I could give her a much faster machine
and get her off (the no longer supported) WindowsXP all at the same time by moving her to Windows7 and copying all her files over from the old PC to the new one.
I tested the software first on a test PC of mine and found it would not install in a 64bit environment (error message saying use 32bit during install) which I solved by using Windows7 32bit. It worked perfectly so I proceeded to build her machine thinking
that issue resolved. Problem is after the new rig was built and SP1 plus all windows updates were installed the Creatacard software would not load. I get an instant popup message saying "Creatacard Application File has stopped working" with the options
to "Check online for a solution..." and "Close the Program."
Checking online does nothing noticeable and close program doesn't help as every time you reload it fails immediately with the same message. Clicking on the "view problem details" drop menu reveals that this is an APPCRASH with the following clues
    Fault Module Name  ole32.dll
    Fault Module Version 6.1.7601.17514
I have researched and tried everything I could find online about this crash and none of it (up to and including completely re-installing Windows, systematically loading a few Win-updates and trying the app after each batch, editing the registry multiple
times, trying alt versions of ole32.dll, and using a Linux live CD to alter windows settings) has fixed the problem.  I have learned the following though:
When windows is first installed the card maker software (CMS from here on) works fine.
After windows updates itself and a few device drivers auto load (like when you first plug in a USB mouse or Flash drive) CMS breaks.
Loading windows normally after it is up to date always causes CMS to crash and give the above message.
When I perform a "clean boot" CMS works fine once again.
When I boot into safe mode CMS works fine.
Someone online suggested a service could be the actual problem and there being 140 of them I used the 50% method to quickly narrow the list and found that yes indeed windows services do appear to be related because if I don't allow the "Power"
service to run the CMS works perfectly. With a bit of testing to see what it does I found that it controlled wake/sleep settings, delay until your monitor goes dark etc and that if the Power service is disabled it remembers the last settings entered and I
thought GREAT! Finally after many days of frustration and being balked by nonsense I have a solution. My aunt will never use/miss the power settings I will set them up for her once and then kill that service and all is well for a Happy Holiday... (from my
research online some may already guess where this is headed)  until I went to play a video............ and there was no sound.
A little red X had appeared next to the speaker icon down in the system tray next to the clock and hovering over it gave a popup with "The Audio Service is not running." This is where the BS gets deep. I had of course NOT disabled the sound (Windows
Audio) service and a quick check showed it and all the services it depended on were in fact on and running. The Windows trouble shooter offered to fix the issue and so I let it run but it comes back with "one or more Audio service is not running"
and attempting to restart the service on its own came back with a "Not fixed" result. Now if I go to check dependencies for the "Power" it claims that no other services depend on it and it depends on nothing but that is an outright lie.
Further digging shows me the Power service's "path to executable" as...  C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k DcomLauncher and many other services show they depend on DcomLauncher to run.
Long extra trouble shooting session short here is where I am at. I can have the sound working or the CMS but not both.
Uninstalling and re-installing the sound card drivers didn't help (since sound is being stopped at the windows OS level) either.
As soon as I turn on the Power service and reboot the CMS breaks. As soon as I disable the Power service and reboot the CMS works perfectly but all audio breaks. Both of these are a deal breaker as she will not leave her old slow XP machine without her CMS
and I cannot give her a new machine that has no sound. Reboots take 30 seconds on this new PC so were it mine I could just live with it as the CMS has no sound and I don't need music playing when I am designing a Christmas card. Use the sound/power on 99%
of the time and disable them and reboot whenever I make a card and then enable and reboot when I am done. This would be over her head though I fear as she is a senior and not very tech savvy. My question then is...
Is there any way to have the CMS work while still keeping the Windows Audio service (and all the other not listed but still existing dependent services) running? Or alternatively is there something else I can do to the ole32.dll to make it stop the crash/error?
To be clear I would happily accept a system without the Power service running if (like it actually says under dependencies) nothing else other than the "Power Options" in Control Panel ceased to function.

Thanks Michael. Apologies for the slow reply I was away for a bit (holiday blitz at work and visiting family madness etc.etc.) back now, I set both options you requested to "never " and retried the CMS software with no change.
I do have progress of a sort though, as a test I took a separate test PC and put a clean install of Win7 on and loaded up the CMS software (it worked perfectly) and then took the version of ole32.dll off that machine and put it onto the computer I had built
    for her (using Linux) and...
got a new error code. Darn I was so sure I had found a clever solution this time lol.
Anyway now when the CMS fails it gives me a similar error but the offending module is "ntdll.dll" sooo... I tried taking the "working" version of ntdll.dll from the test box and moving it over (making sure to back up the existing ones
first so I could put them back if needed) to her new PC and the PC would not boot.
It seems to want the original versions of a few Dynamic Link Libraries and if I could somehow give it those while not breaking Win7 it should theoretically work seeing as it no longer errors with ole32.dll.
ntdll.dll however seems necessary for Win7 to boot.
So what I am wondering now is:
Is there some way to have both versions of the DLL file in the system32 folder (bypassing the "cannot have two files with the exact same name in the same folder" thing) or rename the original DLL's something else and somehow make the CMS look for
the new named versions so the system has the updated DLL's it needs to boot/run and the CMS has the old ones it wants to run or is there someway to have a self contained install of the CMS, say on a USB flash drive and give it it's own E:/windows/system32/needed
dll's  path to the files it needs?
Willing to try any other options or settings you may have come up with as well.
Thanks again for your reply and my apologies for not answering sooner.

I was recently prompted to update my Itunes player to the latest version. I'm using Windows Vista. I was left with an error message MSVCR80.dll and consequently no new update. I uninstalled the old version and have tried to reinstall manually several times. No luck. Consequently I have no player.
    Any ideas for a fix?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
