OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed: OCI8+PHP+Linux+Oracle 11g
Hi All,
I've been struggling with this since 3 days. I'm getting the following error while using oci_connect:
Warning: oci_connect(): OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed. There is something wrong with your system - please check that LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes the directory with Oracle Instant Client libraries
My system configuration:
PHP : 5.3.3
OS: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.1
Oracle: 11g
OCI8: 1.4.9
My phpInfo() shows that OCI8 is configured with PHP. I did set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to Instantclient in httpd conf file itself and gave permission 777 just to make sure it's not permission issue. I did not set any ORACLE_HOME because my Oracle database is on a different server.
Please help!!
Your post doesn't contain enough detail to identify a cause.
See Unable load library '/usr/lib64/php/modules/oci8.so' - libclntsh.so.11.1 It is an example of a post that has good detail.

ASolar.Hi ASolar,
Were you able to solve this problem? If so if you could tell us how you solved it we would greatly appreciate it.
We have had the same issue trying to re-configure the Foundation service on Sun Solaris (SPARC 64bit) with Oracle 10G.

Convert Window Oracle 10g to Linux Oracle 11g
HI Experts
My current version is Oracle 10g on Window and i want to convert on Oracle 11g on Linux.
What will be the best way to convert it ? can possible to direct convert
or i need to be database migration from window Oracle 10g to Linux Oracle 10g and then covert from Linux Oracle 10g to Linux Oracle 11g.
If the direct conversion is possible then please let me know the way or if u have document then please share it.
I searched lot but i didn't get anything.....
Thanks in advanceWhat is the expected downtime duration ?
What is the database size ?
For a "small" database with no downtime constraint you could use Data Pump to move data.
For a "large" database with minimum downtime you could use Oracle Streams (with Enterprise Edition) or Golden Gate (separate product: needs new licensing).
You can find detailed migration/upgrade recommendations and scenarios on OTN database upgrade page:

Tns time out windows client , server on linux oracle 11g R1
I have Windows 7 as the host machine and Oracle 11g R1 client installed on it.
I installed VMWare V5.5 (downloaded from oracle site) and then installed Linux on it as guest OS. I have Oracle database 11g R1 intalled on Linux.
I can ping the Linux server from Windows.
I can also ftp to the Linux server from windows and get the files locally on Windows OS.
The listener and tns files are configured correctly (i assume) on both Linux and Windows.

Apache, PHP, and Oracle 11G
Hi,
I have an 11G RAC Setup, and a separate application server that runs php that is presently connecting to MySQL Servers.
I just configured OCI8 in my application server and can see that my configurations are correct using phpinfo().
iam using this code to connect to my RAC 11G:
<?php
if(!$conn = oci_connect('sys', 'opensesame','callbox.oracle'))
$err = oci_error();
trigger_error('Could Not Establish a Connection:'.$err['message'], E_USER_ERROR);
?>
but i get this error:
Warning: oci_connect() [function.oci-connect]: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified in /var/www/html/oraconn.php on line 6
here's tnsnames.ora in my RAC, using sqlplus via command line works perfectly fine in either nodes of the rac.

am I missing something?i forgot to include that the tutorial that helped me configure the OCI8 for PHP suggests that i need to create tnsnames.ora in /etc like this:
SERVICENAME =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ip_of_oracle_server)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = SID)
(SID = SID)
so I created this:
CALLBOX1 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =192.168.50.161)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = callbox.oracle)
(INSTANCE_NAME = callbox1)
and did this: export TNS_ADMIN=/etc/
am not sure which part of my tnsnames.ora in the RAC (posted earlier) be copied in /etc/tnsnames.ora in the application server. -
Need to Clone A Database From Solaris to Linux Oracle 11g
Hi Team,
I am using Oracle Database Version 11.2.0.1.
We have 6 production servers and all of them are in solaris box. We have a new requirement from application to use Linux boxes and for that we need to perform a database refresh from Solaris to Linux box.
I can do it by Export and Import technique. But I want some other way to perform this database refresh activity.
1] Can I do it while taking a rman backup from solaris box( Source) and restore it back to Linux( Target)?
2] Can I do it using transportable tablespace method?
I am aware of performing this using export-import but as our database size is near of 1TB I can't apply this technique.
I need your suggestions in this activity, please put your opinion on the correct method I should opt for and along with that share me the supporting document where things are mentioned in step by step way.
Please let me know if this can achieved by RMAN...
Source Machine Make:-
bash-3.00$ uname -a
SunOS blrdlvdwhdb01 5.10 Generic_142909-17 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-T6320
Target System Make:-
Linux blrulvremoradb01 2.6.18-194.el5 #1 SMP Tue Mar 16 21:52:39 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Regards,
ArijitYes, you can create a backup with rman and restore in other platform, check:
How To Use RMAN CONVERT DATABASE on Source Host for Cross Platform Migration - 413586.1
Cross-Platform Migration on Destination Host Using Rman Convert Database - Note 414878.1
but easier and faster will be with expdp/impdp. -
Oracle 11g dg4odbc OpenLink postgres odbc driver for Linux... Integer issue
We were using scuccessfully the openlink driver for postgres odbc driver to connect oracle and postgres in solaris and oracle 10g hsodbc
we are migrating to Linux Oracle 11g and installed linux psotgres odbc driver and configured oracle 11g dg4odbc gateway.
We could connect from oracle and retrive the data from postgres.
Issue we have is
The integer data is not showing correctly…
For example in the postgres the value is 1 and in oracle its shown as 4294967297.
thanks,
Sirishathis is the trace when its working for
select * from "cognos_enrollmentdtl_s"@testag where "trial_id" = 39
and for 39 its returning 167503724583 thsi value in the result set.

ORACLE 11g + PHP5 problem: "fetch out of sequence" on i5/OS AS/400
Hi!
I have a big problem using a database connection to i5 AS/400 with PHP5 OCI8 interface by Oracle 11g:
when doing a simple "select * from (as400_database_link)" I get this return: "fetch out of sequence... preceding line..."
I never had this problem with 9i, old transparent gateway.
BUT:
when doing for example a "select * from (as400_database_link) where rownum < 1000000" it works fine without problems.
Anyone an idea how to eliminate this stupid "where rownum < 100000" behaviour?
I would have to add this in many select statements... ;(
bye,
OliverTach,
how do you call oci_execute ?
try oci_execute($query,OCI_DEFAULT);
I had the same problem with adodb
$q = " select * from elephant@africa";
$db->GetAll($q);
Failed with the same error.
ADODB called oci_execute with OCI_COMMIT_ON_SUCCESS,which caused my error.
$q = " select * from elephant@africa";
$db->BeginTrans();
$db->GetAll($q);
$db->CommitTrans(); (or rollback);
did the job,because BeginTrans changed oci_execute to run with OCI_DEFAULT.
Hope this helps,
gw

Oracle oci8 problem: OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed
Hi to all,
I have installed Apache 2.4.3, PHP 5.3.21 and Oracle Database 10gR2 on a Windows 2003 server. Please that is installed the complete Oracle DB* and not the only Oracle Client.
When I run phpinfo This is the result:

<?php

$dbHostPort="1521";
$dbServiceName = "myservice";
$usr = "myuser";
$pswd = "mypwd";
$dbConnStr = "(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)
(HOST=".$dbHost.")(PORT=".$dbHostPort."))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=".$dbServiceName.")))";
if(!$dbConn = oci_connect($usr,$pswd,$dbConnStr)){
$err = oci_error();
trigger_error('connection failed: ' . $err['message'], E_USER_ERROR);
$strSQL = "SELECT SYSDATE FROM DUAL";
$stmt = oci_parse($dbConn,$strSQL);
if ( ! oci_execute($stmt) ){
$err = oci_error($stmt);
trigger_error('Query failed: ' . $err['message'], E_USER_ERROR);
while(oci_fetch($stmt)){
$rslt = oci_result($stmt, 1); print "<h3>Query result: ".$rslt."</h3>";
?>But when I run the php file, this error is displayed:
Warning: oci_connect(): OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed. There is something wrong with your system - please check that PATH includes the directory with Oracle Instant Client libraries in C:\www\win2003vm\connect.php on line 13 Fatal errorCan someone help me ?
Thank You and best regards
GaetanoThe reason the error mentions Instant Client is because this text was
compiled into the DLL when it was built using Instant Client. You can
ignore this message phrasing quirk and focus on why OCIEnvNlsCreate()
failed. Seeing the C code might help explain why the 'wrong' text is
shown:
errstatus = OCIEnvNlsCreate(&OCI_G(env), PHP_OCI_INIT_MODE, 0, NULL, NULL, NULL, 0, NULL, 0, 0);
if (errstatus == OCI_ERROR) {
#ifdef HAVE_OCI_INSTANT_CLIENT
php_error_docref(NULL TSRMLS_CC, E_WARNING, "OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed. There is something wrong with your system - please check that " PHP_OCI8_LIB_PATH_MSG " includes the directory with Oracle Instant Client libraries");
#else
php_error_docref(NULL TSRMLS_CC, E_WARNING, "OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed. There is something wrong with your system - please check that ORACLE_HOME and " PHP_OCI8_LIB_PATH_MSG " are set and point to the right directories");
#endifDo you have other Oracle libraries that are causing a library clash?
Did you reboot after installing? Is there some permission issue with
the web server environment? Are you using Apache or ISS. Does this
help:
https://blogs.oracle.com/opal/entry/how_to_use_iis_php_and_oracle
Also see "Commonly Seen Connection and Environment Errors" on p 107 of
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/php/underground-php-oracle-manual-098250.html
You may be interested that your $dbConnStr can be simplified. See
"Easy Connect String" on p 104 of the above book. The variable can be:
$dbConnStr = "${dbHost}:${dbHostPort}/${dbServiceName}";In fact, since you are using the default port, it could even be just:
$dbConnStr = "${dbHost}/${dbServiceName}"; -

I tried all possible ways with google help but still i am facing the same issue.Kindly check and suggest to solve the issue.
Thanks in advance.
Vijay.Hi all,
I give you the clear details about the issue what i am currently facing,
1. I installed the 11g (11.2.0) database alone(No EBS) in my local vmware machine.
2. Created my ORACLE_HOME under /u01/oracle/prod/tech_st/product/11.2.0/db_1 directory after that i tried to change my home location from /u01/oracle/prod/tech_st/product/11.2.0/db_1 location to /u01/oracle/db/tech_st/product/11.2.0/db_1 location, like created /u01/oracle/db directory and moved files from /u01/oracle/prod location.
3. I changed my bash_profile and exported home with the modified location also deregistered an old home and registered the new home.
4. When i am issuing echo $ORACLE_HOME it is showing the current home location and ORACLE_SID is same what i created before.
5. But when i am trying to create one more db using DBCA utility it is through the above error.
Please suggest me is it possible to change the location after db creation or any extra steps i have to do for this issue.
Thanks. -

Edited by: Lain on 13-gen-2011 20.06Make sure you have ssh configured properly on both nodes.
Do you have the Oracle Clusterware Installation 11g Release (whatever your platform is)?
Read this section 2.12.3 Enabling SSH User Equivalency on Cluster Member Nodes
Try this on rac1.
ssh rac2 date
Try this on rac2.
ssh rac1 date
If these don't return the date of the other host you haven't configured SSH properly.
