OCS windows single box installation fails
Hi there,
I´m having trouble with installing the OCSR2 single box distribution.
My environment is a Xeon with 1GB Ram running Windows Server 2003.
The machine is a blank installation without any third party tools, just the available MS patches are installed.
The information storage installer runs without any complaints but the second step which installs the IAS infrastructure fails with a couple of configuration assistants.
First one that fails is the Instance schema assistant. All other assistants are related to OID. Like Password randomize and creating guest account etc.
I have used all defaults for every setup option, though there are not many ;-)
The server is registered with our DNS server and has a fully qualified domain name, which I have proofed from other computers in our LAN.
Are there any suggestions for this issue. I´m really stuck with installation and have no idea what to do.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Cheers Elmar
I have the same problem, on Windows 2000 Server with SP4. I noticed that the InternetDirectory service is marked as "starting". I looked at which ports were open (netstat -an) and 389 is not opened.\
I also have an another problem: the Database Configuration Assistant has failed too. It complains that I have a invalid database domain name:
Invalide database domain name. The database domain name must start with an alphabetical character.
But my database domain name (and SID) only contains letters.

Installation of OCS windows single box version?
hi.
I was installing OCS windows single-box version.
I failed the first installation because of bad unzip files.
and then I deinstalled all components(i would say component) that I failed the installation.
I tried to install ocs second time, but
whenever i came to Oracle9iAs installation
the dialog comes up and says :
"All Oracle9iAS installations on a host must be installed by the same operating system user. The initial Oracle9iAS installation located at C:\Jason\OCS\mtier was installed by a different operating system user. Please exit this install, log in as the user who installed the initial Oracle9iAS installation, and restart the install. "
I've installed ocs with the same user. I'm 100% sure it is.
now I tried several times ( I think over 10 times )
install and deinstall and install again.
anybody got this same problem with me?
any idea?
thanks in advanceUninstall did not remove Oracle registry keys.
You should do that manually. If you have only one home on Your machine then You should uninstall key :
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
If there are more then one home you should remove keys:
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME(n)
where n is number of Collaboration home : HOME1 or HOME2
Also you should uninstall all collaboration services
MyComputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services.
But only collaboration services must be uninstalled -
OCS Windows Single Box Install problem
When installing the 9iAS Infrastructure portion of the single-tier install on Windows, we're seeing that the DBCA for the Infrastructure database will hang as soon as it starts. Any ideas why?
Originally, we thought that the problem lied with multiple CPUs, but we found an article to force a single-CPU install, and it went fine. Note that the Information Storage DBCA ran fine earlier in the install.
Thanks!Another possibility if you're not running Windows 2000 Advanced Server... Windows splits available memory half and half toward kernel and user processes.
That means, if you have a 1G server, only 500M is available for OCS.
If you have a 2G server, only 1G is available for user processes.
Advanced Server lets you add a /3GB switch in the boot.ini file, check Metalink. That splits 4G into 3G for user processes and 1G for the kernel.
I ran into a similar problem as you describe on my XP Pro PC at home, I have 1G of RAM but DBCA fails (protocol error), then when it backs out of the installation for the DBCA components it also wipes out the database service.
I didn't check whether it also wipes out the oradata files, it may do that if installation of a database is unsuccessful.
I may try grabbing copies of those, the init.ora file, and back out of the ocs store db installation, then rebuild manually, test, and retry the other components.
It would be nice if we could do this step manually.
I am so desperate to make the singlebox install work that I am going to try the /3GB switch on my PC when I go home tonight... If that doesn't work I have RHAS 2.1 coming in the mail soon, I ordered it last week. -
OCS Single-box installation for windows??
hi.
do i have to install Oracle9i Database, before i install OCS single-box for windows?
any one have any idea? No, You don't need oracle 9i DB installed in Single Box, Once you start Single Box installation, you will be prompted to create a DB for Files/Email and other 9i DB will be created for IAS.

Maximum no of users supported by OCS 10.1.2 in a single box installation ?
Hi OCS experts,
What is the maximum number of users supported by OCS 10.1.2 in a single box installation for a 6 way Intel box or a 12way AIX box.???
I mean if the server hardware (processor, memory, and storage are huge enough)...
Are there any limits by the software side of OCS ???
I am planning to deploy OCS for about 15,000 users on Redhat Linux AS 4. We also have the option to deploy it on AIX if required.
Many thanks,
maas. Many thanks. But as OCS 10.1.2 documentation indicates upto 1,000 users for single server installation. So I wanted to know if there is any practical limit by the OCS software itself on the number of users in single server deployment on Linux.
Like for instance IBM indicates that domino 7 can now go upto 12,000 users in a single box.
Is there any similar recommendation from Oracle to ease in capacity planning decisions for Architects and Implementers.???
I understand that it would be a very difficult prediction keeping in mind the huge functionality of OCS. So let me narrow the scope of our deployment, In the beginning we would using OCS mostly for Email (15,000 users) and about 2000 of these users would also be using calendering. 4,000 Email users use POP clients to check emails frequently. Remaining users use Webmail to check emails upto 2 or 3 times a day.
Now, if you experts advice that a six way IBM eServer X445 server with 16GB RAM and sufficient SAN storage would be able to take this load then I can go ahead with it. Do I have to take any specific measure in design and deployement to leave room for adding nodes.
Many thanks,
maas -

How to start single box installation
Hi
I've downloaded the 3 files for linux single box instalation(9.0.4.1), but I have problems to continue with installation, I hava an error that say that he cannot find .rsp files por storage/midtie/infra
I think I'm making something wrong uncompressing the .cpio files, because i get a lot of directories with a Disk1 label. Somebody knows the correct way to do it ? I've followed de otn directions and didn't work:
- gzip -d [all 3 files]
- cpio -idcmv < ocs_9041_onebox_lnx_file1.cpio.gz
- chmod +w Disk1
- cd Disk1
- cpio -idcmv < ocs_9041_onebox_lnx_file2.cpio.gz
- cpio -idcmv < ocs_9041_onebox_lnx_file3.cpio.gz
THanks !I am getting the same problem when trying to install. It keeps looking for the files relative to the root directory /onebox/ instead of the directory the rsp files are located in which is /somepath/onebox/Disk1/install/linux. From my install log file I see the problem but am not sure how to fix it. The source and destination paths are being set wrong.
Starting install Install Phase 1 of component Oracle Collaboration Suite Single-box Install
Calling Action fileActions2.3.0.8.0 instantiateFile

I tried to update my OS to windows 8.1 single language from windows 8 pc. But my installations was unsuccesful due to error code 0x80240031 . What is the problem and what is it's solution
Hi,
How did you upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1? Through Windows Store? To resolve this problem. Firstly, please check and install all Windows update, and upgrade hardware driver to be latest. After that, please try to create a new user account and upgrade
system again.
If problem persists, please access to the path below to check Windows installation log:
setupact.log and setuperr.log in c:\windows.~BT\Sources\Panther. If this folder not exit, please check setupact log in C:\Windows\Panther. You may find the reason for this problem. You also can provide these log to us, we can help you analyze these log together.

MBP Mid 2014 Bootcamp windows 8.1 installation fails
Hi,
three days ago, my new MBP 15" retina arrived, switching from my "old" 13.3 early 2013 one. After setting up mac system, I had to install bootcamp with windows 8.1 again. This combination Yosemite vs. Windows 8.1 (from exact same media) worked with bootcamp on the 13" for more than a year flawlessly.
Firing up BCA, I resized the disk to generate space for Win and started installation procedure, now the hazzle began.
Windows was constantly quitting installation
using the bootcamp created partition, it stopped with "cannot update boot loader"
recreating windows partition through win setup, it stopped with "cannot start next phase of installation"
I found several posts here and on the web, that solved the issues for older MBPs, but none of them worked for me.
Finally, by constantly repartitioning cos of that hazzle I crashed my boot, now reinstallaing yosemite from scratch.
Anyway, I need windows on that machine. Any1 having same issues or some proposals, why what worked on my 13" is failing on the newer hardware series on my 15"?It`s not beacuse of the case. I have the same problem with a macbook pro retina 15 late 2013 (I7 - 2.3 Ghz, 16 GB, 512 SSD, GT750M) with windows 8.1 on bootcamp. The temperature is higher than yosemite. It gets easily at 80 celsius in a demanding game, while on yosemite it barely reaches 55-60 under heavy load. It`s beacuse of windows, and these are the temperatures, I got the same average 55-60 in windows and 45 celsius in yosemite. I read on the forums and I tried evend with a cooler pad. But it doesn`t seem to be any improvement with lowering the temperature in windows.

Windows 2003 R2 installation failing with ORA-12154
Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise default installation, no Windows Updates at all
Pentium 4, 2 gb ram, 127 gb hard drive
In a workgroup using DHCP
Installed Microsoft Loopback Adapter as per installation docs (which I read)
Default installation of Oracle 10g R2 Enterprise, which installs a starter database.
During the step Creating and starting Oracle instance with Clone database creation in progress at 46%, an error dialog appears:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
The same problem occured when using a static IP address. About a year ago I followed the same steps with 2003 Enterprise (not the R2 version) and was successful. I also tried installing on XP Pro Service Pack 2 and failed at the same point.
At this point I am completely unable to install Oracle 10g R2 on Windows using the default options. I even tried just installing Oracle without the starter database and then use DBCA to create a database. It failed to create a database.some more information
I’ve just restarted the server with its full quota of 16GB of RAM and selected both boot.ini switches (/PAE and /3GB) at server startup. I then amended the dbblock_lru_latches parameter from 128 to 64. Before I even started the database I tried running ‘ipconfig /all’ at the command prompt with the following result:
D:\Oracle>ipconfig /all
Windows IP Configuration
An internal error occurred: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.
is it windows causing these issues?

ERROR: Third party payload installer Adobe_Lightroom_x64.msi failed with exit code: 1603If you are logged on as an administrator you can use this solution to take control of the folder.
To take control of the folder that you cannot delete create a text file called “delete.bat” and add the following lines to it:
SET DIRECTORY_NAME="C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Resources\CameraProfiles\Camera\Sony ILCE-5100"
TAKEOWN /f %DIRECTORY_NAME% /r /d y
ICACLS %DIRECTORY_NAME% /grant administrators:F /t
PAUSE
You will need to change the directory path to match your requirements e.g. “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Resources\CameraProfiles\Camera\Sony ILCE-5100y”if it is not correct.
Right click on the file “delete.bat” select “Run As Administrator” and you should now have full control of the directory and all sub directories meaning you can do what you wish with them. -

I am upgrading a Windows Server 2003 to 2008.
When I run the install it completes the Compability check and reports that Sharepoint Services and WSUS are installed. They are not installed and are not running Services either. I have attempted to remove Registry keys for these but this does not resolve
my issue.
Control Panel, Add/Remove does not report these as installed either.
How do I get the 2008 install to continue and ignore these OR how do I "truly" get these "uninstalled" if there is nothing I can do to find out what is reporting that they are installed?SBS 2003 does contain these feature by default. Is this a small business server OS? If so I'd try them over here.
