Odd alignment in IE 7

Hi:
I've been trying to figure out a few odd cross-browser issues before I launch. Firefox, Safari, IE 8 & 9 all look pretty good. But on IE 7, the text in the map box (box with 1-15 below "beta" graphic) is starting too far to the right, pushing the text onto a second line. Any clues on what part of the code might be the issue? Looking for a place to start...
Also, the little arrow (currently below H1 Title) should be right above "search" on "regional Search" heading. These two things work on other browsers, but not IE7.
The page is http://www.abreathof.com
Thanks for your suggestions.
Best -- Jami

Hi Jami,
what concerns your little arrow: Using the IE feature (translated from my German IE) "Compatibility View settings" you could fix this IE-display problem.
I removed all the the checkmarks and your arrowas had been at the right place.

P.S.
There are somme commands you can use in your DW file. Search here for "ie7" for example:

  • Odd alignment in form

    I inherited some css from the person who worked on this file previously.
    So far, I've taken what used to be a very complicated looking form, and simplified it. I'm close to being done, but can't seem to make the phrase "Last Name" line up with the other labels.
    NOTE: It does line up in Safari. But does NOT line up in Firefox.
    I'm guessing it has something to do with either widths, margins or padding. I've played around with all of these but can't seem to find the right combo that makes it all line up in Firefox. Here is the test file:
    http://www.jamison-design.com/test/abotests/ProfileTest.php
    I appreciate your help in spotting the problem! I'm currently learning css, but have a long way to go... so it would help if you could respond in as simple terms as possible. :-)
    THANKS!!! -- Wn10

    The "clear" style clears any current floats.  Your problem was the existing float:right on the text box was affecting the subsequent label.  This layout is indeed an odd way to do things, honestly.  I'd do them like this -
    <ol>
    <li><span class="label">Label Stuff</span><span class="input">blah</span></li>
    <li><span class="label">Label Stuff</span><span class="input">blah</span></li>
    <li><span class="label">Label Stuff</span><span class="input">blah</span></li>
    <li><span class="label">Label Stuff</span><span class="input">blah</span></li>
    <li><span class="label">Label Stuff</span><span class="input">blah</span></li>
    </ol>
    Then you could have -
    ol {
         list-style-type:none;
    span.label {
         display:block;
         float:left;
         margin-right:10px;
         padding-right:5px;
         border-right:1px solid #CCC;
    span.input {
         display:block;
         float:left;
    li {
         overflow:hidden;
         width:400px;

  • Align tool behaving oddly

    Hi, the align tool (i mean the submenu in ,object) is not behaving properly, for me. As I say align left edges it does not, it only moves the rightish to to left a bit, if I click the same submenu again abit more to the left, but it never aligns any to objects properly, nor edges neither centers. Is it just another motion 3 bug or is it me?
    Thanks

  • HP Laserjet 1018, Word 2007 on Windows XP - Duplex printing alignment

    HP Laserjet 1018, Word 2007 on Windows XP
    Want to Print a book on both sides of A4 paper. I am printing one page per
    page (not the book mode).
    If I print single sided, the top of the page (e.g. header text) on odd and
    even pages are aligned. When I print duplex mode, odd pages print fine but
    the even pages are shifted down. Thus the header text are not aligned.
    I think this is more a problem with the way the printer is managing duplex
    printing.While printing in duplex mode, the printer first prints in reverse (with bottom of
    the page as ref) to enable placement of the output sheets back into the input
    tray without rotation. Is this messing up the alignment?

  • Method to lock alignment guides (pages 5.5)

    Is there a method to lock "alignment guides" in Pages?     I seem to be constantly grabbing them accidentally.  Probably just moving too fast.  But was hoping there would be a method to lock them in position once they are set-up.
    Thank-you,  John L.

    You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac and are alternately opening the wrong one.
    Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
    Pages '09 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
    Pages '09 can not open Pages 5, iOS 7 Pages, Pages for iCloud beta or iCloud files.
    Pages 5 only runs on Mavericks and can not open Pages '08 or earlier files at all and alters/damages Pages '09 files, which once saved can not be opened by anything other than Pages 5.
    Pages 5 files are in an odd compressed bundle, impossible to parse, which won't transfer via non-Apple servers. DropBox may have patched theirs, I haven't checked lately.
    All Pages files, no matter what version or compatibility, have the same file extension: .pages.
    Apple has removed over 110 features from Pages and many of the rest are buggy. They have confused their users and apparently themselves with the installations, upgrades and cross-transfers of files. Effectively Pages 5 files are only compatible with themselves in a very narrow range of hardware and software.
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&mforum=iworktipsn trick
    We are recommending users "upgrade" back to Pages '09 and trash/archive Pages 5 after Exporting their Pages 5 files back to Pages '09 or Word .docx files.
    You should give Apple and other users feedback by rating/reviewing Pages 5 in the App Store.

  • Is paragraph alignment possible in RH 6 HTML?

    Hi all,
    Most of the topics I've created include text boxes, tables, and screen shots - all of which I can set the size for best viewing. But so far I haven't been able to find a way to control the paragraph text so that it doesn't stretch beyond the boxes, tables, and images when accessing the help pages without the content pane (TOC) open or having to minimize the page size. I've tried using the margin ruler, the paragraph alignment, and the page setup function, but nothing seems to do the trick. What I'm aiming for is nicely alignment topic when opened as a single help page or as part of a manual w/TOC.
    I'd appreciate your input. Thanks!

    Hi there
    You are probably looking for something RoboHelp doesn't help you with easily.
    If you hand edit the HTML code, you can insert a DIV on the page to make it adhere to a specific width.
    Basically the HTML *MAY* look something like this:
    This may make the editor look a bit odd as things are now inside a dotted rectangle frame. But it should work.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Vertical alignment is middle regardless of setting

    Running LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 on Windows 7.
    I'm designing a form with many text fields.  Most of them work great.  However, I several text fields--some standalone, some table cells--where the vertical alignment of the user-entered value always shows as middle.
    For example, this text field has the vertical alignment set to bottom, using the paragraph pallette:
    This is the same field with the alignment set to top:
    And this is the same field again, with the alignment set to middle:
    You will notice that they all look the same--always middle.  I'm able to set the caption alignment fine, and I'm aware of the way to distinguish between adjusting the caption and value properties in the paragraph pallette.
    I can't determine any pattern as to why some of my text fields align fine according to the settings I specify, and some of them are always, always middle-aligned.
    Are there any other settings or conditions which may be overriding my alignment settings for these specific fields?
    It first started happening with table cells, so I assumed some table setting was causing the problem (although I never found it). Once standalone text fields started doing it too, though, I was extra stumped.
    I am able to adjust all the horitzonal alignment settings fine.  I have tried deleting the offending cells and starting from scratch, but it hasn't helped.
    Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Marybeth

    This seems odd, but you need to also set the property JAVASE_DB_INTERACTION to false.

  • Align like InDesign anchored objects

    I often use anchored text frames in InDesign so that margin text flows with the main body copy. I've attempted to do something similar in Muse, inside a Tabbed Panel. I'm having difficulty aligning the margin text to top of its relevant paragraph. You can see what's happening here: http://treatment-algorithm.businesscatalyst.com/traumeel.html
    If you look at the 2nd tab, where there are more margin text boxes, you will see that the blue texts are drifting away from the top of their correct paragraph. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

    I noticed the same problem, it's also positioned differently between other types of browsers...
    I think it has to do with the leading of the text (the leading in design mode/preview mode/type of browser...don't match, even though you tell it you want 120% leading, the text shifts up when viewed in preview mode/browser.
    You can try moving the blocks of text to compensate for the movement, but since each browser displays differently, it doesn't work.
    I found this work around, it's a bit odd, but it does work. I attached two images to make it a bit easier to understand.
    I copied the full paragraph to on side and placed the margin text (coloured in red) in place of some original text (making sure it lines up to the corresponding paragraph and also making sure that all lines are equal)
    I then selected all the copied text less the red and selected its colour as NONE. SEE AFTER.
    When displayed in Chrome/Firefox and Explorer all the margin text lines up to the right paragraph.
    Hope this helps.

  • Issue with right aligning of Character Styles in my TOC

    Hello all!
    I'm working on my very first book project and I have been reading soooo many threads on here for the past hour, but i either just don't get it, or i didn't find what i needed still, so i already apologize in case this very question has been answered before ...
    ok, so ... i am building my TOC and have set up the corresponding TOC styles to the paragraph styles used throughout the book.
    what i want is for the page number to appear before the entry. so for the page number i have set up it's own TOC page number character style.
    NOW
    the page number appears left aligned. I have checked the character styles palette and there i can't set a tab for the page number to appear right aligned ...
    how do i get this page number to be right aligned? and THEN, how do i specify the distance between the page number and the entry? there is "tab character"mentioned on the TOC dialogue box to specify the distance between page number and entry, but then do i have to go in manually every time something changes? that can't be it? i have seen in the paragraphy styles palette there is a tab section ... tried to input the tabs so the number would appear right aligned and the distance to the entry, but nothing happened, then the number is stuck right on the entry once the TOC is generated ...
    does this make any sense?
    will attach a screenshot to try to clarify the issue ...
    hope you can help me out.
    thanks a lot in advance!
    cheers

    An awful lot of what I know and am able to pass on comes from having spent waaaaay to much time here reading about odd problems and trying to figure out ways to solve them. I'd never seen a requst like yours until the other day, but then up pops Joel with a similar story, and what do you know, this may not be such a strange thing to want at all. Hopefully your question, and the work we put into trying to find an answer, has not only helped you, but some other users who come along next week or next year.
    Everybody starts someplace and at some point in time. There's no shame in being a beginner, and less in asking for help when you need it, especially after you put in the effort you did on your own to try to find a solution. It's also true that some folks are more design oriented and others more process oriented, and that's just the way it is. This forum has many, many, followers who are expert in different areas of InDesign (even the engineers who write the program are not experts in all the various parts) and are here to share what they know as volunteers. You are always welcome here, especially when the question is as intersting as this one.

  • Odd Spacing in IE 6 and 7

    I always seem to have this problem. My new site: www.simonephysicalmedicine.com has odd spacing problems in Internet Explorer 6 and 7. I've validated my pages to no avail. The site is online. Can someone please help me.
    If possible can you explain your fix so I can figure it out for myself next time this occurs.
    Thanks in advance,

    First, on all sites, explain that Microsoft's browsers are not compliant with generally accepted standards and provide a link to one that is.

    Here's what I do about Internet Exploder:
    <!--[if IE 5]>
    <style type="text/css">

    #outerWrapper #contentWrapper, #outerWrapper #contentWrapper #content {
      zoom: 1;
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    Here's my regular stylesheet so you can see the differences:
    /* This is a container for the page content. It is common to use the container to constrain the width of the page content and allow for browser chrome to avoid the need for horizontal scrolling. For fixed layouts you may specify a container width and use auto for the left and right margin to center the container on the page. IE 5 browser require the use of text-align: center defined by the body element to center the container. For liquid layouts you may simply set the left and right margins to center the container on the page. */

  • FW CS6 Align tool not working properly with lines of text

    Much to my surprise the align tool is not aligning properly with text and I'm not sure what the issue is. My snap to grid distance is set at 1 in preferences.
    Task: Left-align several vertically-stacked lines of type using the alignment tool. All lines have text-align: left.
    Result: Some of lines of type display 1px off from each other. Using the right-align tool yields the same issue.
    Oddly enough shapes align pixel-perfect.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

    I'm not certain of this, but I believe the Align panel aligns the text runs as opposed to the text boxes themselves. This should be a good thing, as it's usually the text that needs to be aligned, not the invisible boxes containing the text.
    Could that be what's happening?

  • Paragraphs do not align to grid

    Hello there:-)
    I created a baseline grid of 6pt, body text 12pt, head lead 12pt, space before and space after 12pt and 6pt. In one chapter, everything aligns, in the second one the paragraphs do not align. I'm going back and forth the paragraph style to change the space before and after of the head, but everything is still the same. What am I doing wrong?
    Any help is appreciated.

    saranas wrote:
    I think you're right. Could you please give an example of how to do this "Unless the total of the leading, space before, and space after total an increment of 12 you'll be off grid."? I just need to see some numbers to see whether I can correct this.
    Many thanks.
    Well, in all honesty there's no way to do this so that you always have grid alignement and consistent spacing between the headings and and the body text unless they all use a leading value that's a multiple of 12 and all space before/space after is also a multiple of 12 (or whatever number you've chosen for the leading or the body text).  As soon as you introduce an odd number you're going to wind up with a larger space below a heading (usually at the top of the page), or a misalignment.
    On the other hand, if youy keep everything in multiples of the same body text leading value, you don't need a grid to maintain alignment.

  • Printing 4 up 6x9 pages on 11x17 and not aligning up

    Trying to print 4up 6x9 pages on 11 x 17 paper duplex. Indesign layout is exacetly the same for all the pages. When I print the odd page is not aligned up with the even page. Example the header and bottom page number doesn't align up with the side of the page.
    I even printed one page first and feed it back in the printer to print the next page. It's close but still off a little bit.
    Can someone tell me if I'm missing something here or what my layout is not setup.
    I appreciate it.
    Thank you.
    Aloha

    While Eugen is coorect about what I'm asking, his solution may not work on every printer. Even relatively expensive commercial printers like the Minolta BizHub series and similar products from other vendors don't have the same sort of sheet-to-sheet tolerance for alignment that yo will find with a printing press because they use differnt technology for moving the paper through the machine.
    It's not unusual to see drift through a long run of up to 3mm or .125 inch overall acros both the length and the width of the page when working with digital printing equipment. In general that's within the machine tolerance specifications (+/- 1.5 mm) for page-to-page registration, and the only thing you can do is design to account for the possibility and use margins large enough to hide a discrepancy.

  • Picture Center alignment in a page

    Hi,
    Can we do center alignment of an image in crystal reports?
    The scenario is like this.
    1. Created a OLE object in details section.
    2. Defined the detail section as "Format with multiple columns.
    3. OLE object grpahic location is defined as the file name and location comes from database.
    Here, in database, I defined the pciture size as Small, Medium and large. Based on that, we are adjusting the spaces in the report.
    For example, if there are 4 small images, I am displaying those images in a single page. As I defined the details section with "Format with multple columns", I can make 4 small images display in one page.
    If there are medium images, I am displaying 2 images in a single page.
    If there are large imates, only one I am displaying in a page.
    This setting is done based on the image size given in database.
    Here the issue comes, as even though the image size can fit into one portion of page, the image size is defined either as medium or large. And the image is by default left aligned.
    Here I would like to center align the object, so that, the page won't look odd.
    Is there any way we can do this?
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Gowtham

    Hi,
    The page can have something called regions. You can place portlets in these regions. If you are on 309 you add regions by editing the page. if you are on 902 then you can do it by editing the layout of the page.
    Hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    Sharmila
