Odd mouse/log-in issue

Hi all,
I was reviewing a document in Word for Mac 2011 today when my system froze.  I tried a reboot using the power switch but when I got to the log-in screen, the mouse cursor would move but clicking apparently had no effect.  After trying several more reboots, including into safe mode, the problem was recurring and I was unable to log in.  I left the computer for a few minutes while I made a coffee, and when I returned the password box had opened up and I was able to log-in.  I tried a restart and the same problem occurred but, again, the password box appeared after a couple of minutes and I could log-in, with everything appearing to work normally.
Any ideas what might be happening?  I'm running a 27" iMac with 1TB hard drive and 256GB SSD.
Thanks

Perhaps see if there are any updates for your computer via Software Update, when you are able to login to the computer? It would be difficult to know whether it is a software or hardware issue, but if it still occurs after installing updates (if there are any available), then perhaps consider booting into the Mac OS X installation wizard and doing a hardware test. If you have a newer iMac (from 2011, for example) and you have the "Internet Recovery" feature; from the last time I used it I recall it having a Hardware Test section, which tests the hardware (I think there is a hardware test section anyway!). To boot into recovery mode, press the Alt key (it is also referred to as the Option key) on your keyboard for 10 seconds as soon as the computer turns on, and find the "Recovery HD" option, if present. If it isn't present, you can launch Internet Recovery by pressing the Command and R key together as soon as the computer starts up; I'd recommend you hold those keys down for 15 seconds to make sure it boots into Internet Recovery. Otherwise, if you have OS X installation discs, perhaps load in the correct disc and initiate a hardware test to ensure the hardware is working fine? Last time I had OS X installation discs specific for an old Mac I had, it told you how to initiate a hardware test on the disc itself, I believe.
Loading up Internet Recovery or the Recovery HD option on its own won't destroy any data or anythng. It simply loads specific software to run hardware tests and also gives customers the option to reinstall Mac OS X in the event the customer would need to. Since newer Macs do not come with installation discs, Apple included alternative solutions being the Recovery HD and Internet Recovery.
Sorry if this is of no use to you. Perhaps someone else can reply offering a better possible solution if not.

  • IMac 27" Late 2013 Wi Fi Log in Issue

    Hello everyone,
I apologize if my questions have been asked in the past. I'm completely new to the Apple Mac OS. I bought a new iMac 27" in the middle of 2014 and use it about once or twice a week and have had no issues to-date. I'm still in the process of learning though so my use of it is limited to basic emailing, web browsing and Skype.
In the last 2 weeks I have had problems logging into my Wifi network at home. It would not log on even after I had reset the modem. After trying and rebooting my iMac 3-4 times it would finally do so without changing anything in the it. I'm not sure what is causing it, but thought I would ask here.
What would be causing the log in issue to my Wi Fi network?
Do I need to be concern with the findings in the Etre check?
Startup after logging in my password would take longer than usual...what would be causing it?
Here is the result from the Etre scan. I guess what concerns me is in red...and also if it shows the Wi Fi log in issue.
Thank you in advance for your help and advice.

  • Send mail to the user who logged the issue

    Hi,
As it is currently the mail goes to the key user, which is a business partner. That is an organization. However several users are maintained under a business partner.
So now the mail goes to all these users at a status change. However can we only have the user who logged the issue getting the mail. Can you please advice me on how to get this?
    Thanks loads.
    Keshi

Hi.. Thanks for all ur replies..
Yes we hv assigned the key user as a business partner which is an organization,, This is also and requirement,
But since the mail is activated as to the key user it goes to all the users in that group, under teh business partner.
But when configuring this came across the Partner, in which we selected it as key user. But there were also other partners as Creator,Reported by etc..
I tried using both these but again it didnt work. Can anyone suggest anything?
Yes, when u assign the key user as a business partner and assign several users  to it you can send multiple mails to users
Any help on this is very much appreciated,.,
Thanks all for replying once again.

  • LION screen sharing and remote log in issues

    Hi,
In Snow Leopard I could access my iMac screen from my macbook and have the iMac restart and allow me to log in and continue to use the iMac.
In Lion I cannot access the log in screen remotely after a restart.
I need to go to the iMac and actually log into it with the keyboard before it will show up again on the network.
I tried to adjust the sharing preferences but nothing is allowing me to manage the iMac and restart it from a different machine.
Once I am logged in the screen sharing works fine. It's the log in issue that is not working for me.
thanks for any help in advance,
    christos

i have not been able to get screen sharing to work at all, which has never been a problem for me. i'm registered as an authorized user on both computers, the passwords are correct, but it keeps telling me that the username/passwords don't work. and this is after the computers have already been "connected" using the exact same passwords and user name.

  • Odd speed dial setup issue

I am getting an odd speed dial setup issue.  Here are the steps:
    1. Open speed dial setup screen
    2. Tap an open slot
    3. Search for a contact using the keyboard
    4. Click on the contact to select it
If I do it that way, I am taken back to the speed dial setup screen, but the contact is NOT added to the slot.
On the other hand, if in step #3, I just scroll down the list of contacts and select a contact, it works just fine.  Seems to be an issue with the search function.  Anyone else have this problem?

The steps that you are taking correct for setting up the speed dial. I have provided a link for additional information.

  • Dreamweaver log in issues

Is there anyone experiencing log in issues to B.C. through Dreamweaver? My log in issue started about a few hours ago. I can log in directly to B.C., but when I try to log in using the same name and password that I've always used, I can't log in.

Hey Legacys7, please PM me your login details and I'll test this for you. If you can access admin you should be able to log in to BC Extension. It's using the same auth system.

  • Facetime and Message log in issue

    Hi to all,
I would like to seek your assistance with the Facetime and message log in issue that I am having.
I recently installed the Mountain Lion OS 10.8, now using version 10.8.2, on my personal laptop, Macbook Pro (Mid-2009 model). I have tried many times to log into both applications via my Apple ID but have been unsuccessful.
This afternoon I tried accessing Facetime on my work laptop (Macbook 2010 model, OS Lion 10.7.5) via my Apple ID and it worked.
Can someone please help me in resolving my log in issue with my personal laptop? Much appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Wing Kuen

I would make sure you are logged into iCloud in the System Preference pane, "Icloud".
Then go the the indivusial prefrences of Facetime and Messages, and try to log in.
    Hope this helps!

  • Erratic Mouse and Keyboard issues...with weird console log...

    Hello All,
I recently installed Snow Leopard on my 2x2.8 Quad Core Mac Pro following a boot drive melt down. Apple replaced the drive via Apple Care and I re-installed all my apps. The only additional item of note is I have Lycom SATA four port card that required a driver update.
Since setting up this machine with the new OS I am having massive issues with keyboard lag, erratic mouse movement and intermittent freezing.
I've run tech tools deluxe and everything passes with that app. I cant find the original install disks so running AHT on this machine isn't going to happen.
I've tried with and without the driver and the issue seems to still be there.
On a whim I opened console and I am seeing this message hundreds and hundreds of times over...
    8/8/10 2:21:11 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (org.xinetd.xinetd[2652]) Exited with exit code: 1

If not, I still think you have a HW issue.  It is relatively consistant, too.  Like something is breaking down - physically.  Not a disk - BIOS... notherboard... something that holds everything together.
Computers are not supposed to warm up and then start doing whatever they want.

You could run some Diagnostics.  The UEFI Diagnostics, if you don't already have them on your system, are very good and provide a decent "human interface".

  • Log in issues and getting worse

My Mac has a clean installation of Leopard; it wasn't an upgrade, and was from the official DVD. Since then I've installed iLife and Firefox, and everything else is user data (pictures etc.)
Since installing the 10.5.4 upgrade it became horribly unstable. Firefox especially crashed every few minutes, and iMovie and iWeb weren't much better. Having no idea why or what to do I continued to battle on.
Then I was using FrontRow to listen to some music when it unexpectedly crashed - completely froze. I couldn't do anything so after waiting for some time I had to hard reset using the button on the front of the tower.
Then, on reboot, after logging in it started to load the desktop then went straight back to the login screen, then froze with the spinning coloured circle. I managed to get into safe mode and changed a few things (removed the desktop picture and set stuff back to default) but that didn't help at all.
So I booted from the DVD and restored the full system from Time Machine (archives are on an external disk) for 12-hours before Frontrow crashed. Now when I boot I get a blue screen and a corrupt login box. Typing user name and password just returns me to the blue screen. It will no longer boot in safe mode (well it boots to the login screen but then when I log in it just returns me to the log in screen again) so the restore has in fact made things worse.
I only recently came across from the PC and I've no idea what I'm doing in all honesty - can someone advise anything please as this is getting very depressing! I migrated to Mac as I was told 'they just work'.
    Many thnaks,
    Rob

*I'm baffled as to how a full restore from a much earlier time can still have the same issues.*
There are several very good possibilities - a program or driver that's incompatible with your computer or a munged installation or configuration file top the list. Another possibility is that TimeMachine itself is the culprit - or at least the backup it has made. For that matter, unless you take the time to use your computer a while before you perform the TimeMachine restore, you can't even be certain the computer is stable. It could be a hardware issue.
I know you hate the idea but wipe the drive and reinstall the OS one more time and take the time to do some troubleshooting at each step. Disconnect everything from the computer but the mouse and keyboard - and Ethernet cable if that's how you connect. Don't perform any software updates & don't do a restore. Just surf the net for a bit. In fact, use this time to check out whether there are any new updates to the software, printer, and other peripherals you may use. (This may be the root of your problems.) If the computer is stable then go on and perform the Apple software updates. Again, take some time to make sure the computer is stable. If it is, connect your peripherals and install the drivers - make sure they are the latest you can find. Again, test the computer for a bit.
Remember, after every reinstall & restore you've been left with an unstable computer. At this point, I don't think you can trust TimeMachine - not for your applications anyway. Rather than performing an automatic restore, I recommend that you manually copy your data - and just your data. Copy the contents of your Documents & Pictures folders from the TM backup. If you must get your mail and bookmarks, don't grab the entire Library folder, look inside and get just those files. Using TM for your data shouldn't create any instability - and if it does I'm running for the hills!
Reinstall your software manually one at a time and test. This sounds onerous but there are three basic possibilities: your computer has a hardware issue, your original installation of OS and/or software had an issue, or there's some program gumming up the works. Taking it slow gives you the best possibility of determining what the problem is.

  • Magic mouse right click issue

I just bought the new iMac 3 weeks ago with the magic mouse which I LOVE. But in the past week I have lost the right click function 3 times now. It acts like the right click option is turned off, which I verified and tried to reset and set back which didn't work.
The only way to reactivate the right click function is to reboot the machine entirely. I also tried to turn off and back on the mouse which didn't work and I had to get another mouse to even reboot after that!
The only thing that has changed is that I installed VMWARE fusion (which is hella cool!) and transferred my old XP image to. It seems to stop working after i have been using my XP or Win7 virtual machine after a while. Not always the case but the only thing I can think of that has changed or I am doing differently.
Any help on the subject would be great! Even a work around to get it working again without rebooting the machine would help.
Thanks in advance for you help!
    Jay

I'm not sure what all of those startup items do, but since none are obvious suspects, what you may want to do is remove them all (except iTunes Helper). In order to add them back later, you can right-click on each item and select +Reveal in Finder+, to see where the item is located. Note down the locations.
After you remove them from the +Login Items+ list, restart (or log out and log back in). Those login items should not be running anymore. See if that resolves the Magic Mouse issue. If it did not, you can add the items back. If it did resolve the problem, I guess you'll have to find the culprit by going to the locations noted earlier and starting one item up at a time, until the Magic Mouse problem returns.
Separately (you can try this first), when I make a change to my mouse settings (although I don't have a Magic Mouse), this is the preference file that changes
    <user home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist
In case that file is corrupted in some way that prevents the right click from being set, move it to the Desktop. Then go to System Preferences Mouse pane and set it up as desired, including the right click. A new preference files should be created. See if the mouse now works properly.
Those are the two approaches I would take initially, checking the login items and the most obvious user preference file.

  • How to: Fix log in issues with Adobe Creative Manager CC

When you type in your username and password and you get a message stating that you are now logged out and you get the same log in fields again. Odds are the database has become corrupted.
Tonight the manager was updated and yep it happened to me again.
I am on a windows 7 computer so your file locations may be a bit different than mine especially if you are on a mac.
Close the manager. {this requires right clicking on the manager's icon in the taskbar} (Clicking the X in the upper right hand corner does not shut down the program, it only hides it)
In windows Explorer go to the following folder location: C:\Users\{Name goes here}\AppData\Local\Adobe
    Find the folders -
    AAMUpdater
    OOBE
    Rename them
    AAMUpdater.old
    OOBE.old
Start the manager, type in your username and password then OK the license agreement.
At this point you should be ready to go.

    Update to my original discussion:
If the problem persists, rinse & repeat steps from the original post.
Alternate Solution: If problem still persists and your imap email is not syncing correctly, call customer support of your email provider (in my case it was GoDaddy). Tell them the problem and ask them to do a "ReSync". Make sure your imap email account is set up on your iPhone before they perform the resync. I tried this and its been a week since I had any problems. If you're lucky this could fix other problems that are not listed in this discussion thread.
    Good luck & Cheers.

  • Every mavericks user, except 13" late rMBP, do you have "kernel usb keyboard" log report issue on your console, check it out please

hi everyone, we are the owners of the late 2013 retina macbook pro, with this keyboard and trackpad issue.
please help us by looking at your console for this log report:
08/11/13 00:49:01,000 kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)
we are really curious whether it is only happening on our 13" rMBP or is it happening on everyone's mac with mavericks.
especially we would like to know whether this report is also on 2013's mac. MacBook Pro Retina 15" late 2013 Haswell, iMac Haswell, MacBook Air Haswell.
Thanks for your help, really appreciate all your reports!
please help us so that we could try track it down whether the issue is hardware or software related.

Yes, after the EFI update I'm seeing over 4,000 of these error messages.
12/16/13 1:08:32.000 PM kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard /Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)
This happens everytime I touch the keyboard or trackpad. I believe this should not be a normal ocurrence performing such a NORMAL and Essential task as using the imbedded peripherals to operate a machine.
I contacted Apple Support and spoke with a Senior Advisor for troubleshooting. I was instructed to send capture data to apple showing the console errors in their entirety.
From my impressions speaking with Apple today, this is not a normal error and a exchange might be offered, but I'm afraid that will not remedy the issue. This being a chronic and widespread issue with OSX Mavericks and late rMBP Haswell models.

  • User log in issue with Xcelsius SWF file

    HI,
I am using the BI as source to  BO. Xcelsius dashboard is using webi data by live office.
I have exported the xcelsius in  swf file &  ppt format.
i am using the credentials user name, password  and authentication as SAP.
I have the roles which are created in BI and imported to BO and the roles have users in BI , which came by default to BO.
Now I have created the new users in BI with initial password. I cant login to infoview or swf until i change the initial password in BI and thn with new password i can log in to BO. I understood this concept.
But confusing part is after changing to new password in BI, i can be able to log in to swf or PPT but not fetching latest data from data base.
if i log on first into infoview , thn i can be able to log onto swf file or PPT correctly and access the latest data.
If i directly access the ppt file , i get 'failed to get the document information. lo 26315". But if i login to infoview first then to swf or ppt i wont get any problem.
The problem is,  users are access the dashboard file from ppt and pdf. So , is there any work around that, the new user can directly access the data from swf or ppt, without entering the infoview???

    Hi sapbi83 ,
May i Know which connection you are using for fetching data into xcelsius, is it LO(Live Office) or Qaaws
if it is Live Office  then what is the refresh property  set for live office object? and how many live office objects or how many qaaws connection u are using.?
provide the answe of all the above question, i'll be able to help you and Infoview has nothing to do it with the real time data connectivity. the dashboard is completely dependent on the connections used to get data into the xcelsius, if the error is coming in PPT or PDF standalone then there is some issue with the connection used in xcelsius, just let me know the answer of all the above questions.
