Odd save to PDFx1a issue

MacPro OS 10.5.8 / AI 15.0.1
I have a file set up.
Simple one color file
two artboards with 18pt bleeds.
I can Save As with no problem.
I choose Save As PDF...
Select PDFX1a from the Job Options...
file saves no issue.
I choose Save As PDF...
Select PDFX1a from the Job Options
choose Trim and Registration under Marks and Bleeds
Error: An Unknown Error Has Occured
I've tried:
Trashing Preferences - no help
Copy/Paste to new file - no help
Only ticking Trim - no help
Only ticking Registration - no help
In order to get around this I must draw in marks and create a second, larger, artboard to encompass my marks, then the PDFx1a saves just fine.
Anyone with a clue?

You mean the page information? No.
As I posted.. PDFx1a job options then tick Trims and Registration for Marks and Bleeds, that's all.

  • Odd speed dial setup issue

I am getting an odd speed dial setup issue.  Here are the steps:
    1. Open speed dial setup screen
    2. Tap an open slot
    3. Search for a contact using the keyboard
    4. Click on the contact to select it
If I do it that way, I am taken back to the speed dial setup screen, but the contact is NOT added to the slot.
On the other hand, if in step #3, I just scroll down the list of contacts and select a contact, it works just fine.  Seems to be an issue with the search function.  Anyone else have this problem?

The steps that you are taking correct for setting up the speed dial. I have provided a link for additional information.

  • Odd DW CS3 Template issue

    Hello everyone,
I was wondering if I could get some help on an odd issue I've
been experiencing with DW CS3. I have been tasked with adding
content to two templates we use (which include a vertical nav bar,
footer and header). After I've made my changes, I would save the
work and then be prompted to Update Pages. During this process, I
don't receive any errors (the only message I get is something like
"Dreamweaver needs to check out this file in order to update").
After all is said and done, I take a look at a few of the
(checked out) pages and I can see the template changes have been
made to them. However, when I check the file back in and take a
look at it online, the changes are not there. Incidentally, I saw
the page here by Murray featuring 7 points that may cause this
issue, but to the best of my knowledge, I have not committed any of
    them.
Here's where things get weird: When I go back into DW and
check out the file (to see what went wrong), the web page (which
showed the template change not moments before) goes back to its
original, unmodified state. I've found a way to get around this by
using the "Modify > Templates > Apply Template To Pages..."
process, but with so many web pages, this seems counter-productive.
And this is the third time this issue has occurred for me.
Considering that, I wonder if I'm missing a step. Do I need to
check in the .dwt file after I've made the change but before I
    update?
Insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your
    time and patience.

    Uh oh.
Using Templates in a site with checkin/checkout is a very
    troublesome thing.
It's a tedious process, but you must be
    systematic -
    * have the client up-synch all files
    * down-synch your local site
    * make template changes and let them propagate
    * up-synch
    * notify client that it's safe to work on the site again
    Wish it were easier myself....
(I assume you are working with Contribute or with other
    developers, right?)

  • Unable to save the Sample Issues Doc for  item category TAN

    Hi,
Created one sales doc type for Sample Issues. In this sales order when i enter the material and give customer discount 100% then value will zero. Now when i try to save this sales order then the system is showing the incompletion log and asking to maintain Net Value for the sales order.
In OVA2 Net Value is maintained for the item category TAN.So i do not want to make any changes in OVA2 as it will affect other transaction material.
If i manually changes TAN to TANN then i can save it.
So what could be the other possible ways to solve this problem.
    regards
    Debasish

    Dear Debashis,
    T. Code: VOV7 --> Item Category: TAN --> Go to Details Page
    Here, under -
Tab: Business Data --> Field: Pricing
Maintain entry as "B     Pricing for free goods (100% discount)" OR keep it Empty.
    Now, try.
    Best Regards,
    Amit
Note: Also, check the Incompletion Procedure, attached with Both the Item Categories, i.e. TAN and TANN
    I think, with -
TAN, Incompletion Procedure would be 20, whereas
TAN, Incompletion Procedure would be 24
Now, go to T. Code: OVA2
Check for Both the Incompletion Procedures, i.e. 20 - Standard Item and 24 - Free of Charge Item (for Group: Sales - Item)
    You will find settings:
VBAP     NETWR     Net value     PKON     03     0
with 20 - Standard Item and not with 24 - Free of Charge Item
    Hope, this would help you.
    Best Regards,
    Amit

  • InDesign File Save Dialog Focus Issue

In this newest version of CS5 it appears that when you go to save the focus in the dialog window for saving is automatically on the Filename as opposed to CS3 and 4 where the focus was automatically in the window displaying folders and files. This significantly increases clicks and time throughout a day. We're so used to plopping in typing in the first few letters of a folder then a sub folder and saving, but now, even if you click in the window it basically fights you to keep focus on the filename. I have to click in the window three times to get the focus to shift so I can navigate by typing in the first few letters and using enter. Now if I just go in to do that without remembering, it will rename my file to whatever I am typing and then save it where ever I was by default. Again it use to work I could exit the last folder I was in by using backspace, then type in the first few letters of a folder hit enter to go into the folder, type a few letters of the sub folder and then hit enter and then click save. This was worlds faster and how we are now essentially trained.
It would not be such an issue if there was an option to change this functionality, but it appears it is as a result of coding in CS5 InDesign and we cannot find an option to change this behavior, this is the only program period that behaves this way, though we dont work as often in the other Adobe programs, all of our other third party programs perform in this manner fine, and Windows 7 support has assured me twice now that this is an issue Adobe must be the one to address.

The focus has always started on the file name. When you change it to the folders and start typing, it does seem to want to go back to the file name. I've seen this in CS4 and CS5 on Vista 64 and Win 7 64. It's not supposed to work that way, it's annoying as hell and I suggest you report it to Adobe here:

  • Save as PDF issues

My computer runs both Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Mac OS X 10.9,
    I skipped 10.7 and 10.8.
On 10.6.8 I double-click on a txt file that has no line more
than 80 characters long and it brings up TextEdit. Then I
click File->Print->pdf->"save as pdf" and it creates a pdf file
that also has no line more than 80 characters long.
However, doing the exact same thing (using the same txt
file as on 10.6.8) on 10.9 produces a pdf file that has
wrapped lines and the font is much bigger than the txt file.
I get the same results when I click File->"Export as pdf".
    Then I noticed File->"Export as pdf"->"Show details" has a
check next to "Rewrap contents to fit page". After unchecking
this then the pdf font is smaller as I get on 10.6.8, but the
pdf file stills has wrapped lines, which I cannot live with.
Why the behavior difference from 10.6.8 to 10.9?
    Can it be corrected?
    Thanks
    Ron

My experience in Mavericks is similar enough that I "voted" on your question. Something very odd going on. A straight export from TextEdit yeilds a very thin strip of text in the resulting PDF while using your suggestion of Rewrap to page produces tiny, tiny text.

  • Odd Save Warning in Keynote

I clicked to save a Keynote file tonight (v. 5.04) and I received a program warning message I've never seen in a year of working with Keynote '09--basically, "This file was changed by a different program. If you save this file in Keynote, you will not be able to keep those changes." I have no idea what that other program would be. I had been working on the same Keynote presentation just a couple of hours earlier at work, but on the same computer. I nevertheless thought perhaps it might be my iDisk sync causing a disconnect of some sort, because I run my all of my docs right out of my local iDisk folder. But when I tried syncing and re-syncing and reviewing the Keynote file on my iPhone, I still could not replicate the warning message.
What gives? The Keynote presentation seems fine, but I would like to know why Keynote thinks a different program has accessed and changed it.

I'm disappointed not to see any response here... I'm getting the same error message you did after migrating to a new Macbook Air 11". NEVER have seen this one since starting with Keynote v1.0.

  • Unable to save files permissions issue (this file is locked)

This is my first post here so thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.
After creating a new secondary admin account I logged into it and wanted to access my documents folder on my main account so I added the new user as having "read and write" permissions for the folder and "applied to enclosed items". This worked however, when i logged back into my main account I am not UNABLE TO MAKE ANY SAVES TO ANY OF MY FILES IN THE DOCUMENTS FOLDER.
This is despite my user account having "read and write access" for the affected files.
    Steps taken to solve issues:
    1. Removed second account by deleting it through Sytem Prefs. STILL NOT WORKING
    2. Applied "read and write" privalliges to the entire docuemnts folder and enclosed items for main admin account. STILL NOT WORKING
    3. Used Disc Utilities to run a "repair permissions" on HD. STILL NOT WORKING.
    4. Held Command R after restarting in "Repair Mode" - selected terminal and typed "reset password" - from that window I Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. STILL NOT WORKING!
Does anyone know how to solve this issue? I know you can duplicate a file, resave it and it solves it but I have 1000's of files and this would take me weeks.
Many thanks in advance... Lion is 10.7.2 and still a nightmare :-(

When I first started using Oracle9i JDeveloper everything went ok. Then I changed the permissions on my local C: drive and when I saw this caused problems with my swap file I set them back to what they were. Now my problem is that I cannot continue to work on coding as I cannot now save anything in JDeveloper as it keeps saying I cannot save files and that I should check the permissions. Anyone know what my permissions should be ? I have granted uncle Tom Cobbley and all full everythng (CRUD) access to my local disk and this does not seem to have solved the problem. Any ideas ? Steven:
When you changed permissions back, did you propagate the change to subdir and files?
Also, using the explorer, select the file, bring up its properties, and check the 'Security' panel to see if it indeed allows all permissions to everyone.
    Thanks.

  • "Save For Web" issues/suggestions

For the "Save For Web" feature, a few things would be nice to see. Maybe they are there, but I cannot find them.
    1. Actions: When I add the Save For Web to an action, it adds an "export" to the action, but when I automate it, nothing happens, it does not save each file in the folder I specified using the Save For Web parameters I defined. For actions, I have to rely only on a save command, as the "export" command simply does not seem to work for actions I create using that Save for Web feature.
    2. Prompting: Sometimes, I forget to turn off the feature for creating an html page, or saving in an "image" folder. But I only get the prompt to verify images being replaced. I would like to get a prompt to verify everything: creating an image folder, creating html page, creating new images AND overwriting existing images. That way, I can find out if I forgot to turn off those features, and that I named the slices correctly, and I don't find out that OOPS there is a new image folder I didn't meant to create, and OOPS, it saved all the slices, so I have to go in and delete, delete delete, or OOPS it created a new html page and I have to go delete that.
    3. Save whole image even when there are slices: If I have a PSD file that has slices, I lose the ability to simply save out the whole image, so I can save it as a comp jpg. I can only select slices to export. I would like to be able to save either each slice, or the whole file as an image.

All good suggestions. I'll forward them on to the team.

  • Save for Web Issues

    Hi,
I have Illustrator 10 and am working on a Windows Vista machine. I have had intermittant problems with this combination, but have been able to make it work. Up to yesterday, I was able to save for web using ctrl-alt-shift-s command to bring up the save for web dialog box. At one point I got an error message telling me the function is now reading in windows, and since that point the images are no longer there, just a red screen.
I have no idea what is going on. I found that Windows had just finished an update for Office 2003, but that happened after the problem started. I had been using compatability mode to take care of other issues. But this problem started after I had been using this for a while.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

  • Save and submit issues with nested/expanding form

I've built two forms in designer (Form_B and Form_C, we'll say) which use scripted repeating subforms to accomodate a range of inputs without presenting the user with piles of fields. I need both of them to correctly maintain their state when saved and re-opened, and transmit the data I need through acrobat.com distribution.
Form B currently doesn't save and re-open correctly:
There are two levels of repetition, Areas and Categories. There can be one or more Areas, and each Area has one or more Categories. If I open the form (in Acrobat Pro) and fill it out with 2 areas, each area having 2 categories, when i save and re-open the file the second Area is gone, and the first Area has 4 categories.
Form C has many fields (up to 1500+) but I only need a fraction of them to be submited
On the assumption that the settings in the "binding" pallet would controll this for me, I made a script to unbind all the unnnessisary fields pre-submit, and reverse the changes post-submit. When I test this, the fields still save and submit despite being set fieldName.bind.match = "none". I would also like to temporarily re-name the submitted fields so they come through with unique names. I have a script to do this, and I tested it by running the script (confirming that they changed by looking at the mouse-over tooltip) and saving the form in that state. The form will open back up with the old(unchanged) names and those fields have lost other layout settings.
On both forms, all fields and subforms are normally set to binding = "normal", or fieldName.bind.match = "once"
I currently have no external data bindings (the data view pallet is blank.)
Any thoughts on why fields whos binding = "none" would still submit/save?
Or why repeating subforms with binding = "normal" would get lost in a save?
Is originalFieldName.name = "newName" somehow not sufficient to change how that fieldname gets saved in the data? (despite the apparent name change)
I've searched all the resources I know for any useful idea on this one, and came up blank. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
<<<<<   don't rule out "It shouldn't do that, it must be buggy."  I'm starting to lean that way pretty heavily on a couple counts.  >>>>>>
If anyone would like to see the files in question,  please send me an email at  manager<at>rocklight<dot>net and I'll get a copy of each off to you first thing in the morning.

I've found a partial answer for the Form_B issue. (areas and categories not saving correctly):
It looks like another case of this - http://forums.adobe.com/message/1358727#340913
    but for subforms.
In order to keep my naming consistent, I had every repeating subform at every level called "fields" and within that a subform called "content" etc. (See attached image) It looks like when the file is re-opened, acrobat/reader is finding the First node named "fields" to apply the saved information to, rather than the correct one. When i renamed the subforms to "AreaFields" and "CatFields" it seems to have solved the problem. (It's still giveing me extra categories, but i think more re-naming is going to solve that too.
Still looking for a solution to the submission problem: how to only submit some of the fields in a form.
(yeah, the nesting is rediculous, I know, but it was necisary for some formatting elements.)

Utilizing Illustrator CS3 on Mac OSX Tiger -

  • PS slow to save - available RAM issue ?

Photoshop CS3 appears to freeze half-way into saving a 232 MB PNG file (a layer in an AE .vpe Comp). But if I wait long enough (about four minutes) it eventually completes the save.
Preferences > Performance tells me that available RAM is 3072 MB - but I have 16 GB on my recently acquired Mac Pro 8-Core.
Any insights and advice gratefully received.

I'm using the PS Vanishing Point filter to create a 3D set for After Effects. The PS image files that AE imports are in PNG – I occasionally have to go back into PS to retouch these files before my final AE render. As I am already having problems with VP in AE I didn't want to introduce further imponderables by changing the file format. (Deadlines right now don't allow me time to experiment. I prefer to get on with something else while the PNGs are saving.)
It would be interesting to hear from anyone with an informed insight into the file format issue in this particular situation.

  • Save as web issue

hello guys, I just got  a issue when I use 'save as web' to save png or gif.  when i chose the 'clip to artboard' the size for content will be changed. maybe smaller 1 px for both weight and high or only high. most ot the result will be cut off the buttom. I use 100 px circle with 2px stroke to test this (align the stroke with outside). I set the artboard fit to bounds of the art. so the artboard size should be 104 x 104 px. but when try to 'save as web'. the result will be changed.
    I post the graphic below:
how can I avoid this issue?
    thanks

    alexcui,
And make sure the Artboard/Crop Area/Marks includes the outer bounds of the artwork.
Unles you use Stroke Inside or have the Edit>Preferences>General>Use Preview Bounds ticked, half the Stroke Weight on either side is outside and not included in the W and H values for the object which is determined by the spine of the path, so in those cases the Artboard/Crop Area/Marks must be one Stroke Weight larger.
The object, and the Artboard/Crop Area/Marks, should be placed so that the outer bounds fit within whole pixel values. This means that the centre may be at whole pixel values or half pixel values.
If you have an object that is 104 x 104 pixels as determined by the spine, and if the Stroke is 1point = 1 pixel and is centred over the spine, the outer bounds will be 105 x 105 pixels. In this case, the centre of the object, and of the Artboard/Crop Area/Marks, should be at half pixel values so the outer bounds will fit whole pixel values.
This is the kind of issues the otherwise annoying Align to Pixel Grid is meant to deal with.
