Offer Solicited Remote Assistance isn't working

So, there are a lot of similar incidents but I can't find anyone that has posted a solution.
Goal:
Allow Helpdesk staff start a solicited Remote Assistance session to any workstation within our domain.  (All workstations are running Windows 7 or Windows 8.)
Setup steps:
Enable the Remote Assistance
Enable the firewall exception on the workstations (in my case, I have disabled firewall for testing)
Add the "Helpdesk Staff" group to the local "Offer Remote Assistance Helpers" group on all the workstations.
Once this is complete, I should be able to type "msra /offerRa <computername>", and it will start a Remote Assistance on the remote <computername>. The end user doesn't have to initiate the Remote Assistance tool.
Problem:
I created a GPO (using Restricted Groups) to add the "Helpdesk staff" to the local "Offer Remote Assistance Helpers" group on the workstations.    The GPO applies successfully...but...the "Offer Remote Assistance Helpers"
group membership keeps getting wiped out.
Found the potential culprit:
After a few hours of troubleshooting,I found a scheduled task called "RemoteAssistanceTask" (located under "Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\Windows\RemoteAssistance".  The task is triggered when Group Policy is applied; the task runs
this command: "%windir%\system32\RAServer.exe /offerraupdate".    I'm not sure what the command does - but it definitely removes the membership of the "Offer Remote Assistance Helpers" group.
I disabled the task, and ran GPUpdate /force, and the group membership was updated as I expected.   ...and it didn't change.
I want to apply this GPO to all the workstations in the domain, but the scheduled task keeps "un-doing" the GPO change!!
I could disabled that task...but, The task is there by default and I don't know what it does.  I am getting very annoyed that this doesn't with GPO.
SO....
Anyone have any input on that scheduled task?  Why is it there?
How do I manage the membership of the "Offer Remote Assistance Helpers" on all the domain computers?

Hi KSBuchanan,
Based on my research, the RemoteAssistance Task runs when an Event ID 1502 is written to the System.log. This scheduled task reviews Group Policy for changes that are related to Remote Assistance.
For more information, please refer to the following blog.
Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy event 1502 not being logged after successful application of GPOs

For the remote assistance, we may take a try with the below policy :
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Remote Assistance\Offer remote Assistance.
Then, click the Show button, you will be able to add helper from there.
Best regards,

As this is the forum for PPC (pre-2006, non Intel) iMacs I assume that is what you have.

We want you to be able to easily manage your content, dlh5295. Backup Assistant on the Brightside would typically be used for contact transfer only. What is happening with Backup Assistant? Do you have a memory card in the device? What model is your new device?

  • How do I install CS5 on new iMac without a disc drive, if remote installation isn't working?

I purchased CS5 for my laptop (Macbook Pro 2007 I believe) and now have the newest iMac without a disc drive.  I have tried remote installation, but it did not work.  I attempted to copy the installation files onto a USB and then transfer them, however, the iMac then prompts me to insert the installation cd.  How can I install it?  Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I was signed in with download assistant, no just in at adobe.com... I've tried different perferences and settings but when I click on the links nothing seems to happen. I've been messing around with this for a few hours now and it dawned on me that it may have something to do with my internet. I live outside the city- totally nice for gardening, totally terriable for internet thus I have a verizon data plan and not unlimited internet, I think possibly verizon is shutting it down because of restrictions I have on my data. This type of thing also happened when I upgraded to Mavericks. The file itself was larger than my month's data so it seemed like it wouldn't initiate the download... I don't know for sure if it is the same problem here but if you're telling me that you are having more successful results than I am that might be the reason.
I'll take my computer to work or to my mom's house or somewhere where I can have unlimited access and see if I have any better success.
Thanks so much for all your help!

  • I installed 10.56 and now Migration Assistant isn't working

I had 10.6 on my MBA and because Photoshop wasn't working properly I wanted to go back to 10.56.
So I made a clone using Superduper of my drive.
Then I installed the 10.56. I wiped the drive clean first. The Bootcamp partition didn't erase though.
I then restarted the computer and went to Migration assistant. However, it is stuck on installing the documents and it doesn't seem to move on though it says it takes a minute.
Also when I check the drive attached with the clone, on the user nic the folder has many files with a minus sign.
    Should I be worried?
What should I do if the MA doesn't work?
Is it because I have gone down to a earlier operating system and my stuff (files I want to transfer) is on a higher operating system?

if you are doing migration assistant where is the files coming from?
you cant do migration assistant out of an image made by a 3rd party. you can mount it and copy paste the content though or simply drag it

  • Adobe Download Assistant isn't working

I am running Windows 8. I am currently using the CS5 master coll w/no issues. I have downloaded the download assistant, However when I double click it nothing is happening. I have tried to run the compatability tool etc... w/no effect.

Please check your firewall settings to see if the Adobe Download Assistant is listed as an exclusion.  Alternately you can initiate a direct download of the software by following the steps listed at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369.

  • Remote Assistance in Corporate Environment - OfferRA not working

Can anyone help me resolve a long running issue regarding Remote Assistance on Windows 7?
We have recently upgraded many of our PCs from XP to Win7 but our Helpdesk are no longer able to use Remote Assistance on the Win7 PCs so I've been trying to get it fixed. I’ve read dozens of articles
on various forums (including this one) and tried a wide range of suggested solutions - I’ve dug into the registry, tweaked DCOM settings, modified GPOs, messed around with Teredo and PNRP settings, amended firewalls and changed permissions – all to no
    avail!
    This is my test setup:
    Windows 2003 corporate domain
Helper and target PCs both running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. Both PCs on same subnet (actually on adjacent desks)
Offer Remote Assistance GPO setting enabled and helper is a member of the listed group
Firewalls on both PCs have default Remote Assistance rules enabled
Target PC has Remote Assistance enabled and the Offer Remote Assistance Helpers local group is populated as per the group policy
    So far, so good.
Now, Remote Assistance works fine when the target PC user solicits help through an invitation file or email (Easy Connect option not available though). However,
offering remote assistance has never worked.
    This is the scenario:
Helper runs MSRA.EXE /OFFERRA and is prompted for the name or IP address of the target PC
On entering the address and clicking OK receives the message “Offering Remote Assistance: Connecting to the remote computer to get the logged in users…”
At this stage Event Viewer on the
target PC shows raserver.exe as running (which I thought a little odd as Windows 7 uses msra.exe for remote assistance). Nothing else appears on the target PC, i.e. no RA prompts
After 15secs or so an error message is displayed on the Helper PC “Your offer to help could not be sent. Check the following: Do you have the correct permissions on the remote computer
[I have]. Is the remote computer turned on and is it connected to the network [Yes and Yes]. Is there a network problem [No]. “
In the event viewer of the Helper PC the following events are logged:
Event id 9 - There was a problem interacting with COM object 833E4010-AFF7-4AC3-AAC2-9F24C1457BCE.  An outdated version might be installed, or the component might not be installed at all.
Event id 13 - Remote Assistance started with:  /offerRA  as the command line parameters
Event id 41 - Diagnosis Repro Attempt resulted in a failure.
Event id 44 - Remote Assistance troubleshooting has confirmed the problem: Remote Assistance Easy Connect isn't available.
Event id 30 - Remote Assistance has ended.
This has been driving me crazy. Why is a supposedly simple admin tool so difficult to implement?
Anyone found a solution for this yet?

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, To offer remote assistance to a remote computer, you must belong to the Offer Remote Assistance group on the remote computer.
To resolve this issue, please check and add your account to this group.
For Offer Remote Assistance to work, a certain amount of configuration is necessary, and the computers must be within a domain. This means that you (the system administrator) can determine who can offer remote assistance within the domain.
Note If your computer is In a domain and you enable the Windows Firewall exception for Remote Assistance, Please make sure port 135 TCP is opened.
    Thanks!

  • Offer Remote Assistance hanging

I am unable to open Offer remote assistance from a specific Windows 8.1 machine to a Windows 7 machine.
    On the Windows 8.1 machine I get the following errors;
Event id 13 - Remote Assistance started with:   as the command line parameters
Event id 41 - Diagnosis Repro Attempt resulted in a failure.
Event id 44 - Remote Assistance troubleshooting has confirmed the problem: Remote Assistance Easy Connect isn't available.
Event id 29 - The error message:    Verify that the person you are trying to help is still at his or her computer.    has been shown to the user.
Event id 30 - Remote Assistance has ended.
    When I try the following occurs;
It does open msra.exe on the other machine
The window opens on the Windows 8.1 machine for remote but just says trying to connect in the bottom left corner.
It just sits that way for maybe 5 minutes and then ends.
    I have done the following troubleshooting;
Verified that this works from a different Windows 8.1 machine.
Verified that my account is in the helper group.
Disabled my firewall and tried with the same results.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
The cause of this behavior is that the following policies are enabled, you can check and if there it is, please configure to disable it to check the results.
    * Solicited Remote Assistance
    * Offer Remote Assistance
Every time we force a refresh of group policy, the membership of the Offer Remote Assistance Helpers group will be cleared and all the users/groups that you add under the Helpers list of the "Offer Remote Assistance" setting will be added as a
member of the group again. The group will be removed if you remove the policy settings.
The policy settings are in the following location:
    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Remote Assistance
In addition, since other GP will also cause this issue, please follow these steps to clear local GP to see what's going on:
    Run following command as administrator:
    RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicyUsers"
    RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicy"
    gpupdate /force
If the issue still persists, please post back following event log here for our research:

  • I work and live in China and my backup assistant plus isn't working

Here's my situation, I currently am living and working in China so I am no longer with Verizon.  It has been quite some time since I used this phone and because of this I am no longer able to access my backup assistant plus account. I want to recover my photos but I don't remember what my ID is and the phone number Verizon keeps asking for is no longer in service. It's a long shot but does anyone have ideas? Thanks

We're sorry to hear about your backup assistant isn't working. However, since the account is no longer active you wouldn't be able to retrieve any information that was on the website.

  • After I upgraded my iPhone to 7.1, my REMOTE app no longer works. Any ideas?

After I upgraded my iPhone 5 to 7.1, my REMOTE app no longer seems to be connected to my Apple TV. Has anyone had and solved this problem?

I rechecked each question you posed; I even turned off and turned back on the Apple TV and iTunes Home Sharing, deleted the app and redownloaded it several times. I am still getting the message on my phone to turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on my computer or on Apple TV. I can't think of any changes I made since the REMOTE app worked except I downloaded the iOS 7.1. About a week before uploading the new iOS, I moved my router. Could this have been a cause of my problem? Everything else seems to work. Do you have any other suggestions? Or do you think the REMOTE app isn't working correctly with the new iOS 71.? Thank you for responding. This is above this Nana's head.

  • Apple Remote assistance required!

I've replaced the battery, I've checked my system preferences settings, but my Apple Remote just isn't working anymore. It hasn't been subject to any rough conditions, it's just been sitting on my desk. It's not transmitting any IR signals when I try to point it at my iSight camera, and it's not pairing at all. Is there any hope of getting it to work again?

This is the Mac Pro desktop forum. That model does not have ir remote capability.

Have you tested the old battery, maybe that was tnot the problem

  • Remote Assistance and Mandatory profiles

    Hello all,
I've just implemented mandatory profiles and it seems that Remote Assistance doesn't work anymore. I can confirm that it works with normal profile.
Google told me that it's known problem that many people are facing, however I haven't seen any solution. The workaround with changing the "State" registry key is NOT solution - the profile is no longer mandatory and is not deleted after logoff.
Any ideas how to solve it?
    Thanks,
    Martin

Better late than never... KB2936674 is a hotfix coming in April 2014, that enables unsolicited Remote Assistance when using mandatory profiles (for Windows Server 2008 R2).

  • Windows Remote Assistance work?

    Hi,
I collaborate with someone far away. I just bought a Mac and have found to my regret that the screen share function works only with other Leopard users. MSN Messenger for Mac does not have the Remote Assistance and Application sharing functions. Does the Messenger running on a Mac, but inside XP or Vista, have the Remote Assistance or Sharing functions?

In the MS Messenger for Mac the Application Sharing and Remote assistance are disabled, so I was hoping before I install XP or Vista on my mac, to find out if it works when running XP or Vista on the Mac. As for why nit, I don;t know. I don;t know why it isn;t on MSN MEssnger for Mac so I was looking for a real world advisor.
