Office 2008: NONE of my files can be read on other computers

Ok, so my Microsoft Office 2008 used to work perfectly. Now, all of a sudden, NO ONE can read any of my files if they are on a regular PC. Whether I save as .docx, .doc, .rtf, whatever...it doesnt matter. NO ONE can open my files.
When i save the files and email them to myself and try to open on a PC, it doesnt carry over the .docx (or whatever extension) extension. I download the attachment and there is no file extension. If I rename the file on my PC to .doc/etc. and it tries to open in Word, it says Word needs a converter.
Does anyone have any ideas what happened here?

PC also reads the file with no problems. What is different from this file and the others?

Will the “other computers,” be Mac, or a mixture of Mac, Windows PC, and possibly Linux?
What application on the other computers will be accessing the Pages content created on your MacBook Pro?
Using the File export options I originally mentioned, you could save the files to iCloud. Then on the other computer, you use the web browser to sign into your iCloud account. When you click the iWork icon, the files that you saved from your MBP will be there. You can then right-click on the file you want and a download option exists.

About Authorization and Deauthorization.
Follow the instructions in the above link to deauthorize all and then authorize only the computers that you physically have access to and need authorized.

Microsoft Office 2008 issues. Help. Excel not opening and other issues!

I converted to Lion on day one. I was able to use Microsoft Office 2008 without problem for days, then, just today, every time I go to open an excel file it opens, closes, then gives me the option of sending error reports to Microsoft. Word opens fine. The program is totally up to date (just did the 12.3 update). I repaired disk permissions, restarted the computer twice. Still, the same things happen. Here is the message I get for the Microsoft Excell Error Report:

The other thing that happens is that whether on Word or Excel when I click on a file to open it, it keeps trying to open all the recent files from that program intead of *just the ONE* that I want it to open. I also notice on Safari that when I reopen the program it opens ALL the websites I recently visited even though I don't have that checked as a preference... What gives??????????
Any suggestions. I am freakingout here, really need to get into these documents.

This can be adjusted in system settings under general.

Only half of my RAW files can be read

So I got a card from our photographer and half of the NEF files open fine will the other half are giving me an error saying that my version of Photoshop does not support that camera. Which makes no sense. It's from the same camera. You guys have any idea what happend or what I could do to recover those files?
I am running Photoshop 5.1 Extended v12.1 x64 on a Mac running 10.6.8 with Camera Raw plug-in v6.7.0.339 and finally all the photos were shot on a Nikon D800. Thanks!

The file on dropbox is rejected by the current ACR 8.3 and Lightroom 5.3.
The utility that would fix NikonTransfer or ViewNX corruption rejects this file a being a non-standard format.
I can use other utilities to extract the entire sensor data as a TIF so I don't think the data, itself, is corrupted.
The D800 can shoot FX mode using full-frame lenses and DX mode shooting with crop-frame lenses. Googling, I can't find anything about either of these modes not being supported by LR.
The D800 can shoot regular raw photos with a 3:2 aspect ratio and video-still raw photos with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
A blurb on Adobe's website says the initial release of LR 4 (compatible with CS6 and ACR 7) can read 3:2 aspect ratio files but the 16:9 aspect ratio files are not supported until LR 4.1, which would be equivalent to the raw engine in CS6/ACR 7.1.
So that would mean you have no chance on CS5.x/ACR 6.7 but suggests later versions of LR and ACR would read it, starting with LR 4.1 and ACR 7.1; however, it does not work in the most current versions of LR 5, and seems to cause LR 4.3 and LR 4.4 to abort with a program error, so something is not right.
The file on dropbox that doesn't read into Adobe products is 4800x2704. This means it is both a DX-crop file and 16:9 video-still aspect-ratio file. Apparently while Adobe can read DX-crop files and 16:9 video-still files, Adobe products don't seem to work on a combination of both of those conditions.
Or maybe there is some slight corruption, although I'd expect only a few of your files to be unreadable if it was actually corruption, but if its half then probably all the files that are video stills with a DX lens are unreadable.
When I try to open the file in Raw Therapee (a free raw converter) it complains about a few fields being unknown but does open the file and will allow adjustments. It may also not quite know what to do with DX-crop video-stills but it is more forgiving than Adobe products.
I have been unable to find a webpage at Adobe or elsewhere that says it will not read DX-crop video stills, but this is my working assumption.
Do you have access to pay-for (or free) Nikon raw-conversion software that is new enough to understand D800 images that could be used to at least create TIF files from these DX-video-stills so you could do further processing in LR?
Finally you might upload another couple of these files to dropbox.com in case something is indeed corrupted with the one example you put there, and others would work fine in newer Adobe products.

In my small office ethernet network all of a sudden one of my imacs cannot be connected to. It can connect to all other computers and can access internet, but as soon as someone tries to connect to that mac, it disconnects from the network. Any ideas

I have a network of 9 macs that connect via ethernet and a router. All of a sudden one of the macs cannot be connected to. It can connect to all others and the internet, but no one can connect to that one. I have appletalk active and file sharing on, but everytime someone tries to connect to it, it is not on the network. Additionally, the personal file sharing keeps turning off even though I have it locked. Any ideas?

Small size file can not read correctly on other linux

Hi, I am running archlinux 0.8 on my laptop, and there is another linux runs kernel version 2.6.20 with root filesystem of debian v3.1.
I wrote a shell script which reads a small, 49 bytes, only 1 line conf file on my archlinux, it works fine.
But if I copy script & conf files to debian, the script can not read conf file with:
while read f;do; echo $f; done < conf
but `cat`,`more` commands can read it. I have to open conf file with vi on debian and do nothing but :wq rewrite it to make script working.
Both arch & debian use ext3 file system. Could anyone tell me why? thanks.

I think your command is wrong: it works with zsh and doesn`t work in bash. Maybe you should remove extra ';'?

In general what type of files can we create in Java?You know that a file is nothing more than a series of ones and zeros, with eight of those bundled together as something called a byte. What they actually mean is what you make them to mean. Short: you can write and read any file type you like, but doing that semantically correct it is your responsibility.

Inbox file - can't read message body

We can see the list of inbox message BUT when we go to open any of them we can't read them it says:
Message from XXX has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
We are using Earthlink...as I am thinking about this it sounds like an Earthlink problem? Why does the header of each message look ok in Apple Mail?

I'm not a Mail.app expert user but what happens when you select, with your Mail.app open, from the "Mailbox" menu (in the top menu bar) "Go Online"?
I assume it says "Go Online" if it is asking "You need to take this account online in order to download it".

Copy the entire iTunes folder out to the drive. If it is too big to go as one copy stuff over to another computer in batches. It is important to have not only the media but the library file in order to properly restore your library.
See also this User Tip. Assuming the machine won't connect to the internet you could download the SyncToy installer on another machine and then transfer it with the thumb drive. If it will connect to the net don't forget to deauthorize the machine before reformatting the hard drive.

Why my external harddisk formated as R&W for one imac will remained for use in that imac only. When I bought a new imac the external hard disk end up can Read only. Shouldn't it remain the same as R&W? There is no way you can set back to R&W for my new imac. Why can't Apple make thing simple for us and let the complicated user do the complicated thing? Once formated it should be able to use for all PC and all Mac. How to reset without lossing all my files in the harddisk? I know the easiest way to reset is to reformat it and lose everything. Not user friendly isn't it?

If you want assistance you need to quit the rant and state what you need. Also be specific, you don't mention anything about the old Mac, the kind of EHD, what it is used for etc....
If you want to share a EHD between a PC and Mac you will have many limitations, primarily the size of files you can store.
