Office 365 Features after Windows Server Standard Transition

Hi all,
I am looking to transition from Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials to Standard as per
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj247582.
The article calls out explicitly that the media features are removed from the web access site and disabled in the dashboard after the transition but there is no clarification of anything relating to Office 365.
Does the built-in version of DirSync in Essentials continue to function for synchronising on-premise passwords and users to the Office 365 Tenant after the transition?
I would assume that they do given that there is no mention of the features in the transition article but I would like some reassurance. It would be nice to hear from someone who has actually attempted this to know if there are
any other features or faults in the process?

yes, the office 365 integration components continue yo work.
Hi Cliff, thanks for the response.
Do you know what happens when the media features are removed? When the media features are first enabled, it creates three new shares called Music, Pictures and Videos on the server.
When the media features are removed by the Standard transition, are these shares disabled, removed or are the underlying NTFS folders actually deleted at all? Obviously I would have a backup going into this but it would be nice to understand the behaviour
fully.
If might be worth an update to the TechNet article to explain the behaviour to the media shared folders as well as the media feature itself.

  • Query about using Office 365 as a file server

    Hey,
At my workplace we are looking to change our method of storing files, as it stands we have an old machine which we connect to via the LAN.
As we have expanded, other people need access to this from afar and we have looked at Office 365 Education, my understanding is that everyone gets 25gb on their own local area. How would we go about getting 100-200 GB of space on a standalone area.
E.G a virtual server which everyone can access, as an admin can I restrict who views which directories?
My understanding is that I would need to make a user account called "Company Server" and share the folders via SkyDrive and only upgrade that account?
    Thanks again

The storage for OneDrive for Business (SkyDrive Pro) is now 1TB for each user. OneDrive for Business is a good place for storing users' working files, the kinds of files you'd typically find in user home directories.
You can use Office 365 like a file server through the use of mapped network drives. Here's how to set one up support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2616712. You can also script the network drive setup process with Powershell. Check

  • Does ms office 2010 support in windows server 2008r2

    Hi
I required the information regarding that does ms office 2010 support in  windows server 2008r2 edition & if support then how can i down load the office service pack for the same.

Yes, you can install Office 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1). For the system requirements for Office 2010, please refer to this article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624351(v=office.14).aspx
Microsoft now no longer offers a download from their site, however, if you already have a product key of Office 2010, you can get Office 2010 installation package from this website:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/microsoft-office-2010-backup-FX101853122.aspx . If you don’t have a product key, I would suggest you to try the new Office – Office 2013, which also can be installed on Windows Server 2008 R2.
For more information about the new Office, please check on this site:

  • HELP - Windows Server Standard FE migration nightmare!

    Hi All,
I need some advice on what to do with a Windows Server Standard FE server as I don't have experience of it.
The server is the domain controller, exchange 2007 server and it has file shares on it as well. Not only this but it has been virtualised on ESXi 4.0 due to the physical server giving up a few years ago.
This was all done well before my time at the company. I just need some advice on how to sort this out.
Can i create another DC and then demote this one? I think i read somewhere that it won't allow another DC or was this SBS server??
Can I leave exchange 2007 running on the server or now that it is virtualised, does it mean the Windows server license is now invalid?
I'm assuming migrating the file shares is just like 2008 standard?
I'm trying to establish a plan to tell my boss as he feels this server needs addressing.
I hope someone out there can help me.
    Regards
    Dave

  • Hyper-V on Win2k8 SP 2 - windows server standard x86 not installiing

    Hi,
I tried to install the Hyper V on the Win2k8 SP 2 - windows server standard x86  server but it doesnt work.
Downloaded the KB Windows6.0-KB950050-x86.msu. Couldnt install saying "The update does not apply to your system". Dont know why. Checking wmic qfe list it lists the KB file. Cant find it in server roles anywhere.

Hyper-V is only available on x64 Windows versions. No Hyper-V on x86/32 bit OS. In addiction Windows 2008 is only available on 32bit version. Starting from Windows Server 2008 R2, only x64 version is available.

  • Office 365 E3 subscription / Terminal Server / Office Professional Plus 2013

    Hi,
    Background info:
We use multiple Office 365 E3 subscriptions (12 now) and also have an Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server.
The users may install Office 365 Pro Plus on their local machines and are able to connect to SharePoint online with the Office applications. Now not everyone has a PC so they log in to one of the two Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Servers. I do
however want one big happy family working with SharePoint so I installed Office Professional Plus 2013 and tweaked the Group Policies so that the start up screen and movie arent beeing showed.
When I log in with my test user on the Terminal Server (who has a E3 subscription) I miss the feature to add a location (to connect to the SharePoint site). I just do not have that feature. When I log in with my domain administrator account who also
has an E3 subscription, I am able to add a connection.
There is SO much info on the web about Office 365/Terminal Servers etc but I am not able to find what I was looking for.
    Question:
What do I need to do so our Domain Users who log in to the Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server are able to open/save files directly to the SharePoint site? How do I add the SharePoint location?

    Wrong forum :)
You should either go to the Terminal Services (RDP) forum or Office 365.
    Good luck with your issue.

  • I can't seem to make a working profile to connect to office 365 on a windows 7 pc with only the mapi cdo runtime version 6.5.8320.0 installed using mfcmapi nor programmatically

    Hi,
I have been struggling with this for a few days now.
i have pc where no outlook is installed, where i installed the MAPI CDO Runtime may update (version 6.5.8320.0). i checked in the registry that the default mail provider was set to exchangemapi (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail) .. it is.
I downloaded the lastest version of mfcmapi, which i believe was the version of december 2013
but i can't seem to create a profile for office 365 in it. I followed http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dvespa/archive/2013/05/21/how-to-mfcmapi-create-mapi-profile-exchange-2013.aspx and then i changed the properties to what was proposed here http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dvespa/archive/2013/07/15/create-profile-connect-mfcmapi-to-office-365.aspx
That did not work, i keep getting an error one ore more properties are invalid when i try to use that created profile to connect to office 365 (from within mfcmapi).
I also changed some of those proposed values to what autodiscover was telling me like setting PR_PROFILE_RPC_AUTH_PACKAGE to RPC_C_AUTHN_ANONYMOUS which should be the value $8000F001 instead of RPC_C_AUTH_NONE (at least i think so)
I builded a simple program to encrypt my password using CryptProtectData and entered the value using mfcmapi in PR_PROFILE_AUTH_PASSWORD as was suggested in the last page.
but nothing seems to work, i keep getting wrong configured errors and i'm totally clueless atm. This is supposed to work right on a pc where outlook is not installed ?
I also tried this on another pc where outlook 2010 is installed and i am able to create the profile there and connect without a problem given that i enter the logon credentials once and let them be remember (they get stored / cached in the windows key store,
like when using CREDWRITE function) from then on i can connect without a problem.
also when calling configuremsgservice on the EMS service i created for a new profile in mfcmapi and let the UI show i can see on the pc where outlook is installed in the UI options to enter proxy information however when i do the same thing on the pc
where only the mapi cdo runtime is installed i do not see any UI option to configure the proxy server information ... is this normal ?
Hopefully someone can shed some light on what i'm doing wrong or might be wrong.
    Thanks in advance
    Willems Davy

The window would open and I would get the hourglass cursor suggesting something was happening, but the Apple home page (default from the install) would not load, nor would any other page I tried (google, yahoo, cnn).
Even though it's about a different application, I'd try the following document with that:
iTunes 10.5 for Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(Safari uses the same webkit engine to render web pages as iTunes uses to render the Store pages. So an issue that can cause the iTunes Store to blank can also cause a Safari for Windows application on the same PC to produce blank pages.)

I have tried the FIX: WCF services that are hosted by NLB computers to route messages to Exchange Server fail when WebHeader settings are added by using a .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 application
    Windows6.0-KB2637518-x64.msu

Frustrating, since I won't be using Exchange 2010, were moving all the way to Exchange 2013 on a brand new server.

  • Office 365 installation on Windows 7 with Office 2007 already installed on it

Hello, I am planning to deploy office 365 business premium on 30 systems that are running on Windows 7 and already have Office 2007 on it. If i downloaded office 365, will it overwrite outlook 2007 with outlook 2013. Or do i have to manually uninstall
Office 2007 before installing Office 365. I am planning to do cut over migration and make the exchange 2003 server redundant.

    Hi,
If you deploy Office 365 to users, then the new Office and Office 2007 will coexist on the client.
One thing to note, as you already have Office 2007, which is 32 bit, make sure the new Office 2013 is also 32 bit.
Anyway, if the new Office has included all the applications(Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) in Office 2007, you can uninstall Office 2007 and just use Office 2013 to get a better experience.

Hi Everyone I have seen some threads on this topic and i have tried to follow all of their instructions and it hasn't solved my problem.
So this problem started happening 2 days ago.
Each time i open outlook I get prompted for Login Credentials. It has never happened before
I have tested it using this tool https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com and it works fine
I have removed my security credentials on the PC it hasn't solved it
I have a number of tablets and they are working fine
I have built new Outlook profiles
I have tried it in safe mode
In the Security settings for the Outlook Mail profile is set to Not Prompt for Security Credentials
The Login Security Mode is set to "Negotiate Authentication"
I have tried it with both Encryption and without
I'm able to login to Email online and send and recieve emails that way.
I have another user on Windows 8.1 and the problem started happening at the same time as me. I'm on Windows 7 Office 2010 Plus Proffessiona
I believe the other user is on a newer version of outlook than me.

Any help would be much appreciated i'm quite frusted not being able to send mail from outlook
    Hi Alan,
I am sorry for the issue you are experiencing right now.
On Tuesday, August 5, 2013 at approximately 12:45 PM UTC, we receive a report that some of the users were unable to authenticate to the Exchange Online service when using the Outlook client. However, the issue has been restored.
Since you are still having the issue, please follow the steps below to do the confirmation.
    1. Please make sure that all Outlook security patches and updates are installed on the affected computer. To check for the latest Outlook updates, please click on the link below.
    2. To make sure whether the issue is related to the Outlook client or the service, please try configuring the test account I send you through private message on the affected computer to check whether the issue exists. To check the private message, please follow
    the steps.
    a. Please go to Your details section on the right side of the community site.
    b. Click Private messages.
    c. Click the subject title of the responses to read the message.
Please provide feedback, then we can move forward to check where exactly to look into the issue.
At last, I would like to confirm whether your organization only have Exchange Online or have hybrid environment.
    Thanks,
    Yang Yu
I noticed something a bit strange that SMTP is automatically put in front of the mailbox name.. i haven't seen that before
Went to windows update and there is nothing to install
it's interesting you say the 5th because that is exactly the last day that outlook successfully synced.. it hasn't worked since.. This is happening on 2 seperate computers and stopped working at the exact same time.
    Hi Alan,
    Thanks for the update.
Based on the currently situation, I understand when configuring the test account provided by Yang Yu the issue persists. And you have a number of tablets and they are working fine. Thus the issue could be related to the certain Outlook client on this certain
    computer.
Since we focus on Office 365 issues in this forum, I'm so sorry that I’m not able to provide the detailed instructions.
To provide you with a better service, and sort out this issue more effectively, I suggest you post this issue in the following Outlook forum. The engineers there will help you get the issue fixed in a timelier manner.
    Outlook forum:
At the same time, I will also continue doing some further tests and research. Thanks for your understanding and great efforts.
Any community members with related experience on this issue who could share it here are also appreciated.
    Regards,
    Xinyu

    Hi Alan,
According to your description, the Outlook settings seems to be correct in your local machine. And some solutions have been tried to solve this issue:
Create a new Outlook profile, start Outlook in safe mode, clean credentials cache in computer ect.
But the issue persists. Please consider to configure your account on a computer which is working file with your colleague's Office 365 account to check whether the issue continues. If the issue only happens to your account, please access the mailbox in Webmail
and change the password to have a try.

  • How can I add features to Windows 7 Standard Embedded 64-bit?

    Hey guys,
I apologize if I am posting in the incorrect place but the embedded forum was specifically for POS Systems it seems.
My problem is that a third party has provided us with some systems that include Windows 7 Standard SP1 (64-bit) for their operating systems. Obviously the OS is cut down and missing a bunch of features (as an embedded OS should be); I need to add some of
the Windows 7 features back in. I know how to do this with DISM but can't find any 64-bit features to install as the Standard 7 Embedded Toolkit seems to be 32-bit only?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
For how to add packages into Windows standard Embedded 7 64 bit, I suggest we ask in the following forum:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=quebeceefs
The reason why we redirect is that you will get more professional response in the proper place.
    Thank you for your understanding.
    Best regards

I've also tried managing the computer remotely using another windows 2012 server using the server manager GUI. That causes the server manager to crash with the following error:

    Hi,
I would like to suggest you first run get-windowsfeature command on the core locally not remotely. And if it works, then try to remote run it.
     Invoke-Command -ComputerName CORE1 {get-WindowsFeature }
