Office for Mac 2011 Advice please

For many years I have been producing numerous  documents using Office Professional 2010 on a PC.
Since purchasing a Mac I have being working with Pages 09 & Pages 5, neither of which in my opinion, has the versatility of Office.
I note that there is an app. Office for Mac 2011.
Could someone please answer the following?
Can I transfer documents, (some quite long) in Office Professional 2010 to Office for Mac 2011?
Can I transfer documents in Pages 09 & 5 to Office for Mac 2011?
Are there any issues I should be aware of in installing Office for Mac 2011?
Thank you.

1. Yes, the file formats are interchangeable (excel, word, powerpoint)
2. You will need to export them from Pages in .doc or docx format.
Pre 3: Backup first
3. Read the directions, and note that Outlook will be wholly incompatible with most (not all) online services, especially Apples. You can buy Office with or without Outlook, it's cheaper without.

  • Fusion drive solution to activate Office for Mac 2011

Activating Office 2011  is a known issue for Fusion Drive Macs.
Activation is tied to the drive. According to Microsoft the solid state part of the Fusion Drive generates a new disk id every time the Mac is started. So Mac Office thinks it a new system at each startup and will require activation.
This solution was suggested by Microsoft Support. Please let us know if this works for you.
Follow the steps below to remove the “Thunderbolt bridge”:
    1. Click on the Apple icon and click on “System Preferences”
    2. Click on “Network”
    3. Look for “Thunderbolt Bridge” on the left side.
    4. Highlight the Bridge and click on the “-” sign to remove it.
    5. Restart the computer and enter the Product key for Microsoft Office. Restart again.

I don't normally advocate users re-install Office to fix an issue but in your case I think it's worth a try. The Mavericks update seems to have fixed the issue for most users. I would suggest the complete removal rather than the simple removal of dragging the Office folder in Applications to the trash.

  • Problem with MS Office for Macs, can someone please help?

I am using MS Office for Macs 2011 on my new MBA, and have encountered a pretty annoying issue when I transfered all my Excel, Word & PP documents from my old Sony PC.  When I open an Excel spreadsheet for example, the computer also opens every single OTHER speadsheet.  Since I have over 30 Excel documents, this obviously becomes very annoying and time-consuming!  The same thing happens when I try to open a Word or PP document.  Is there some setting that I need to change to have only the document I actually want to open?  All the documents were created on older versions of MS Office, but I doubt this is the problem.  Can someone help please?  Thanks!

You could also try deleting the microsoft preference files, incase something has gone amiss there.
Make sure all Office application are quit fully
    Go to User/[unername]/Library/Preferences
    Look for
    com.microsoft.Excel.plist
    com.microsoft.office.plist
    com.microsoft.Word.plist
    com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist
Outlook is there too, so if it is causing you issues, you can delete them too
Next time you open your office applications, the new prefernce files are created. Any particular preferences that you had set will of course need to be reset as they are now all new (default) again.
Another thing to check is in you System Preferences - General
Do you have the 'close windows when quitting an application' checked? if not, checking it may fix the issue.

  • Problems with Office for Mac 2011 installation

I'm trying to install Office for Mac 2011 on my new (bought yesterday) Macbook Air
I entered my pin for the Office into the site and got my download link
I started to download it and it said it would take over 4 hours and when the download got to halfway (of 1GB) the installation stopped and the message given was 'You do not have permission to access the requested file' and this came up every time  I tried to restart it
I decided to re-install the program but was met with the same issue..
Can anybody offer any advice or explanation for this it would be greatly appreciated!

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • LibreOffice or Open Office vs Office for Mac 2011

I just bought a late 2011 MBP and I cannot use my Office for Mac 2008 software.  Wondering if I am taking a gamble by downloading either LibreOffice or OpenOffice or should I just buy the office for Mac 2011.  I really just need the Excel and Word compatibility. Advice from experienced users would be great!

  • Retina display - blurry office for mac 2011 and web pages?

    Hi everyone,
I was planning on making a trip to my uni tomorrow to make the purchase of the macbook pro 13 inch 8GB RAM and 256 GB SSD (for student discount) but while doing some final research I came across several disadvantages of the RD.
For the next 3 months, the macbook will be used for report/thesis writing which means ill be using office for mac 2011 and adobe reader heavily as well as the internet. I have read many articles saying office for mac 2011 even after applying the update is still blurry and grainy as are the majority of web pages and this has put me off buying and made me think id be better off with the non retina display model, meaning I'd save £200 too.
Can anyone offer any advice on this and confirm whether or not this is true, and whether you would recommend going ahead with the purchase? A screenshot of office for mac 2011 on a retina display would be perfect
    Thanks!

I agree with BobTheFisterman.  I have Pages 5, Pages '09 and Office for Mac 2011.  I really like the Pages programs - each of the versions in their own way - but I don't like using Word on Office for Mac.  It's not the same as Office 10 when used on a Windows machine.  Not close at all in fact.  I use it because I have it, and emailing documents between my Mac and work where we use Windows makes it easy.  "Easy" is not the same as liking the software though.
The point of this, is that I would not recommend buying it.  I've heard that Open Office and Libre Office are very credible alternatives, and work very much like Word on Windows.  Both are free and get very good reviews.  I've not used either so can't speak from personal experience, but what I would say after buying Office for Mac is that I wish I had tried the free alternatives first.
The other alternative to consider of course of Google Drive.  I use that for non-confidential documents, but I wouldn't trust it for storage of any confidential work related stuff.

  • How do I stop parallels and windows 7 preventing me from installing office for mac 2011 on my new iMac?

I am trying to install office for mac 2011 on my new imac which I have already installed parallels and windows 7.  On inserting the office dvd the computer defaults to windows.  Parallels support suggested disabling the dvd drive in parallels.  I have tried this but still the computer wants to open the exe file with windows.  Any ideas please?

  • I was having problems with a 7-month old version of office for mac 2011, so I completely removed it from my computer. How do I reinstall it?

Office for Mac 2011 worked fine until yesterday, then I started having problems. I know I completely deleted the trial version, so please do not suggest that as the cause. I also know that I bought a legitimate full version online from the Microsoft store 7 months ago, and I still have the product key. But since I don't have any trace of Office on my Mac anymore, how do I reinstall it? I tried looking on the Microsoft website, but it wasn't helpful. The only other thing I can do is contact Microsoft customer support, which will probably take forever. So, to respond to this post, please: do not mention trial versions for Office, do not mention Microsoft website. I tried posting another question on this topic, but the people who replied did not seem to understand that their suggestions were not relevant.

I see you had another post for this same issue where you clearly explained your problem.  There were important details in your other thread that would have helped us in assisting you.  You started this new thread, understandably frustrated.  None of us are mind readers.  You started right off telling us not to mention the only two things that would resolve the problem you had mentioned here which was simply that you had uninstalled office and you were trying to reinstall it.  Reading your other thread, it's clear why you made that comment.  It's generally not a good idea to open multiple threads for the same issue as anyone reading this thread would have no idea what steps you have already taken and what suggestions have already been made.

  • Pages, Office for Mac 2011

Hi. After so many hassles every time I export my Pages documents to Word (especially using Pages 5 and especially with the footnoting), I've finally realized I need to get Office for Mac. Until I try it, I don't know if I'll be writing in Pages, exporting and then checking the document in Windows for Mac, or if I like Windows for Mac enough that I'll write directly in that program. What I would like to know is this: are there any issues with Pages '09 (OK, AND Pages 5) and compatibility with this Windows program. And when the document looks right in Windows for Mac can I be absolutely certain that it will be right when opened on a PC?
I'd appreciate someone's thoughts on this.
The reason I ask especially about Pages '09 and Windows for Mac 2011 is that the Windows is obviously a later program: is the older Mac program OK with it?
    Thank you for your advice.

  • Installing Microsoft Office for Mac 2011

I have a Macbook Pro 5.3 Boot ROM Version MBP53.00AC.B03 with SMC Version 1.48f2. The computer will not read the software for installing Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 (Home and Student). An alert blocks installing of the Firmware 1.7 Update. Mac Support said the problem is the Microsoft software. Microsoft said the problem is the Macbook Pro. Does anyone know how to resolve the problem so the Office 2011 can be installed?

An alert blocks installing of the Firmware 1.7 Update
Firmware updates and Office 2011 are unrelated and have nothing to do with each other.
If the firmware won't install, then post your question in the OS X forums.

If this question is strictly related to the installation of Office, then please post your question on MS' own forums for their Mac software, as Apple Discussions only provide support for Apple products: http://www.officeformac.com/productforums

  • HT6114 After the latest OS X update (10.9.2) I cannot open Outlook (Office for MAC 2011). Outlook flashes briefly then nothing happens. How can I get Outlook to open?

After the latest OS X update (10.9.2) I cannot open Outlook (Office for MAC 2011).  Outlook flashes briefly but does not open.  How can I get Outlook to open?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Office for Mac 2011 - how to do animation macros

How can I add a button to play an animation in a bubble chart in Office for Mac 2011?
I am trying to create an animated chart for a presentation, I finally found and have added the developer ribbon so I can add buttons and write the macro to make it work.  I have a macro code to use to make the animation work.  I am using the following code to write what the button should do:
    Sub Button4_Click()
        Dim i As Integer
        For i = 0 To 8:
            Range("J2").Value = i
            Application.Calculate
            Sleep (100)
        Next
    End Sub
but I keep getting a highlight over "Sub Button4_Click()" and something that indicates the format is incorrect.  I tried to make a new button and use just the code part beginning with "Dim. . ." to the end, but it still wouldn't work.
Please help, my presentation is close and I don't even have my chart working!  Thanks!

  • Office for Mac 2011 and OSX 10.9.1

Hi! I have recent installed and re-installed MS's Office for Mac 2011 on a new OS X 10.9.1 system. Everytime I attempt to use the comments tool on MS Word, the document disappears. When I reopen Word, the same document appears. I am not given an error message, it's just seems to quit. The software is for Home and Students, and I've not had any problems using it on an older operating system. Any advice?

Have you tried in another user account? That will help isolate the problem to just your account or system-wide.
Have you tried in Safe Mode? That will help isolate third-party conflicts. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If the first works, there is something broken (possibly a settings file) in your user folder.
If the second works in your account, then the problem is tied to third-party software that runs at startup or login.
