Officejet Pro 8600 N911a

Howdy, first time post.
When I use the Printer Assistant and try to "Shop for Supplies Online" I get a "500 Internal Server Error"
Win7, 64 bit, Google Chromium 64 bit browser.
I've  tried to manipulate the html file in App Data, but even if I can make a link work, it won't connect from the HP Printer Assistant.
Baffling--any ideas? The web says it's a server-side error, is there someone there who can fix?
Thx,
fid

Thanks for your reply. I uninstalled/reinstalled the printer after which the link worked as it should. I did run the Print and Scan Doctor at one point, but that didn't solve the issue--the reinstall did the trick.

  • Can;t enable web service on HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a

HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a we have installed this printer as a network printer.  Everything works fine except that I cannot enable the Web service to EPrint or scan to an email.  It says the printer cannot access the internet.
    This question was solved.

Hello. First power cycle the printer, and the router to see if that will clear up the error message. To do that unplug the router then power down the printer using the power button. Then plug the router back in and once it is back up an running, turn on the printer and try to reconnect to web services
Then, if still unable to connect, I would set a static DNS on the printer. To set a static DNS you must access the embedded web server (EWS). You do that by entering the IP address for the printer into the address bar of the browser of your choice.
Once it brings up your Officejet's EWS, locate the tab that is labeled “Network”. From there look in the left column on the new page that will pop up and select IPv4, wired or wireless will depend on how the printer is connected to the network. That will bring up the page to set the Static DNS. It will be the 2nd portion of that page.
Set the radial dial to manual. Then, for the Manual preferred/Primary DNS, set it to 8.8.8.8 and the Manual Alternative/Secondary to 8.8.4.4; then click apply.
NOTE: if another message with an option to click “OK” appears, read that message carefully. Most of the time it is an option to undo the change you just did and you will want to avoid clicking that message. Just navigate away from that page by clicking on another tab.
Power cycle the printer. Once printer is back up and through with calibrations from being turned off and on. Reattempt to connect to web services by touching the icon.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 N911a not able to air print since Maverick update

My Officejet Pro 8600 N911a worked fine printing wireless before the newest Maverick upgrade.  Now it will only print one print job after I turn the printer off and then back on.  If I connect the computer to the printer, it seems to work fine, so it has to do with the upgrade and airprint.  I have just downloaded the current Mavericks plug in, but there is no change.

When you say Airprint, are you printing Wireless diect to the 8600 or is the 8600 connected to your wireless network?
When you say the latest plu-n, do you mean the update from Apple Software Update (Apple Store) or the full 10.9 solution from HP.com?
In either case I would recommend first just deleting the print queue on the Macintosh and re-adding it.  If that does not resolve the issue try resetting teh print system and adding the printer back new.
Try performing a "reset print system" on teh Macintosh and then reconnecting to the printer.
To reset the print system perform the following:
    1. Open System Preferences
    2. Click on the Print & Scan
    3. click or click in the box listing the current print queues.
    4. Select Reset printing system...
    5. Enter admin User Name and Password
    6. Reboot the Macintosh
    7. Try setting up the printer again

    Hello bia7assan,

  • Can I print from my iPhone 4 using an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a

Can I print from my iPhone 4 using an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a.  And if so how do I do this????

    Hi stacy7560,
You can print from your iPhone4 to your 8600 using Apple's AirPrint feature.  I have a few steps you can follow to do this:
    1.  Make sure the iPhone is on the same wireless network as your printer.
    2.  Select the mail application on the iOS device and open an email you wish to print.
    3.  At the top of the screen, locate and press the action icon.
    4.  Select the "Print" option.
    5.  Make sure your printer is in the top field of the Printer Options screen.  If not, tap “Select Printer.”  Your printer should appear.
    6.  Press the “Print” selection.
Note:  To print a photo, follow these same steps once you have opened the image you wish to print.
Let me know if this helps.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a - Print when Fax is Not Saved

Can I make it so a fax is printed when it's not saved? I know I can set it to print and save every time, but I rely on HP Digital Fax to save paper. If a fax is not saved, either due to a network error or if the computer that it usually saves to is shut off, can the fax just be printed?

, it's nice to meet you. I think I found something that may help with your faxing dilemma. This information was in the User Guide for the Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a; pg 69. Set up backup fax Depending on your preference and security requirements, you can set up the printer to store all the faxes it receives, only the faxes it receives while the printer is in an error condition, or none of the faxes it receives. The following backup fax modes are available:On > The default setting. When Backup fax is On, the printer stores all received faxes in memory. This enables you to reprint up to eight of the most recently printed faxes if they are still saved in memory. NOTE: When printer memory is low, it overwrites the oldest, printed faxes as it receives new faxes. If the memory becomes full of unprinted faxes, the printer stops answering incoming fax calls. NOTE: If you receive a fax that is too large, such as a very detailed color photo, it might not be stored in memory due to memory limitations.
On Error Only > Causes the printer to store faxes in memory only if an error condition exists that prevents the printer from printing the faxes (for example, if the printer runs out of paper). The printer continues to store incoming faxes as long as there is memory available. (If the memory becomes full, the printer stops answering incoming fax calls.) When the error condition is resolved, the faxes stored in memory print automatically, and then they are deleted from memory.
Off > Faxes are never stored in memory. For example, you might want to turn off Backup fax for security purposes. If an error condition occurs that prevents the printer from printing (for example, the printer runs out of paper), the printer stops answering incoming fax calls. NOTE: If backup fax is enabled and you turn the printer off, all faxes stored in memory are deleted, including any unprinted faxes that you might have received while the printer was in an error condition. You must contact the senders to ask them to resend any unprinted faxes. For a list of the faxes you have received, print the Fax Log. The Fax Log is not deleted when the printer is turned off. To set backup fax from the printer control panel 1. Touch (right arrow), and then select Setup.2. Touch Fax Setup, and then select Advanced Fax Setup.3. Touch Backup Fax Reception.4. Touch On, On Error Only, or Off. Reprint received faxes from memoryIf you set the Backup fax mode to On, the received faxes are stored in memory, whether the printer has an error condition or not. NOTE: After the memory becomes full, the oldest, printed faxes are overwritten as new faxes are received. If all the stored faxes are unprinted, the printer does not receive any fax calls until you print or delete the faxes from memory. You might also want to delete the faxes in memory for security or privacy purposes. Depending on the sizes of the faxes in memory, you can reprint up to eight of the most recently printed faxes, if they are still in memory. For example, you might need to reprint your faxes if you lost the copy of your last printout. To reprint faxes in memory from the printer control panel 1. Make sure you have paper loaded in the main tray.2. Touch (right arrow), and then select Setup.3. Touch Tools or Fax Tools, and then select Reprint Faxes in Memory. The faxes are printed in the reverse order from which they were received with the most recently received fax printed first, and so on.4. If you want to stop reprinting the faxes in memory, touch the Cancel button.  Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!  Thanks,

  • Win 7 Wireless connection problem to a Officejet Pro 8600 N911a

I have a Win7 64 bit pc that was connected wirelessly to my officejet pro 8600.  Recently I lost connection to the printer with the Win7.  I can print from my smartphone but not the Win7 PC.  I uninstalled all the printer software Then I downloaded and reinstalled the drivers and tried to connect wirelessly it found the printer but it won't install the driver software. It found the IP address but had :3216/ at the end of the IP address? I can print when I connect using a USB setup.  A message also stated that the PC and printer are not on the same router.  However they are signed in to the same router name and password.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Tombi
I read your post about how your Officejet 8600 is not communicating over your network to your Windows 7 computer. I'd suggest checking the guide below and following the steps. If the printer happens to be on another network, these steps will sort it all out and you should be connected by the end!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 n911a - not working, again

I purchased this printer (Officejet Pro 8600) last week. Set up was really difficult. A PC laptop set up quickly and works fine. My iMac and Mac Book - coulnd't 'see'  the printer for set up. I managed to install drivers and achieve printing by using a USB cable to set up the wireless' connections using the IP address.
All worked for Wednesday to Friday. This monring, both Macs find the printer 'unreachable', the PC is printing fine.
    I have:
    Hard reset the printer
Downloaded the Apple support files, and restarted
Downloaded the most up to date drivers from the HP website
    Still nothing. What next?
My Mac is using OS 10.8.5
This is costing me time and money, not withstanding the purchase price. What next ... I need a printer - or I wouldn't have paid for one.
    All help gratefully received.

Good news - I've managed to add a static IP address.
So, for now at least, the iMac and Mac Book can see the printer and print. Hopefully it lasts ...
Still cannot 'scan to computer'. It works on the pc, but I cannot scan to/via the macs - which is what I need to do. And no, I cannot share a network folder on the pc (it is not mine). Is there any way around this? It used to work fine with the HP scan software on my old Deskjet F4580 ... any advice appreciated

  • Officejet Pro 8600 (N911a) will not feed photo paper - Definitive Answer!!!!

    DUST IS THE CULPRIT!
As per the HP support page for this specific problem, cleaning the rollerhead (The rubber part of the pick roller), is the solution.
    HP Solution here (with pictures).
The specifics are found under the heading:
Solution four: Clean the paper rollers
My printer was able to pick up regular paper, but not photo paper.  I updated all drivers (they automatically update weekly).  I tried every combination of paper in the tray: 1 sheet of photo paper, a large stack of regular paper with 1 photo paper, large stack with 5 sheets of photo paper.  Every combination failed, and the best it got was 1 page of photo paper with the next sheet underneath also coming with it.
I put the thing on its side, and used RUBBING ALCOHOL, (not water as they suggest... rubbing alcohol is much better for electronics, and pretty much any cleaning application.... evaporates very quickly), with a true lint free cloth.  Went over it several times with the cloth, rotating while cleaning, and used an AIR DUSTER to clean out the internals, and dry off the PICK ROLLER.
I RESET ROLLER POSITION to the original place, as shown in the HP Photo on support page.
Lastly, ONE SHEET OF PAPER at a time.
It took all that, and I'm still not happy with HP for this massive oversight... but it got my photos printing again.  Hopefully it will for you too!!

I managed to find a temporary solution as i need to print a photo urgently :
I sticked a piece of scotchtape along the top border of the paper (on the back side) and then it could feed. And i don't know why, but after this first print with scotchtape, the next photo papers would feed normally.
I hope it helps you guys. See the picture:

  • Officejet Pro 8600 N911a and windows 8.1

I have been using the above mentioned printer for some time, but I'm now experiencing a problem in my set-up.
I get an error message saying "Cannot communicate with the printer" on my windows 8.1 stationary PC, and when I start troubleshooting with the HPprint and scandoctor the problem lies with the printqueue connection to the printer.
The error message asks me to update the IP-adress on the printer startpage, but I fail to identify the place to do so. Is it on the printer or somewhere inside the windows controlpanel?
Reinstalling the printer and restarting the windows machine helps (sometimes more than sometimes).
The printer connects wireless to my homenetwork through a TDC SAgem router and my W8.1 PC is connected to the same router via cable.
I have not met the problem when I print from my Ipad or Iphone both of course wireless.
How do I update the IP-adress or better how do I solve the actual problem??
    Thank you in advance.

  • Blank Screen Officejet Pro 8600 N911a

I have a blank touch screen - printer is out of warranty (only 18 mos old).
Any suggestions to correct this situation (other than purchase a new printer)?
    Thank you.

The touchscreen on my OJPRO8600 has been fading away for many months now. Recently it started flashing on and off irradically, like a bug zapper in the Everglades, until I shut the printer down. I tried resetting and unplugging the printer, leaving it unplugged for DAYS more times than I can count and that never worked.
Yesterday my son started to print something from the internet that was going to be more than 100 pages, He only wanted 1 page. Frustrated with my son and the printer, I just yanked the power cord out of the wall mid-print. Although I waited until after it ejected the page it was currently printing.
Today, I plugged it back in and got the message that the printer was inproperly shut down down, never shut it off at the power strip or by pulling the plug from the wall when I realized HEY I CAN READ THIS!
My screen is back to normal! I don't know how long that will last, but I can say that if/when the screen fades away again the first thing I will do it start a print job and yank the plug out of the wall.
I understand this action can damage the printer as every warning will tell you. I was about to buy a new printer because of this screen issue (not another HP of course), so if I blows it up, I dont care.
I cannot advise you to take this action, if you do be prepared that it could destroy the printer entirely. But if you are like me and ready to throw it out anyway, there is nothing to lose.
I was thinking this was a hardware problem, that the screen was burning out. That is clearly not the case. It is a software bug, I do have the latest firmware. I updated the firmware before the problem started. I wonder if you can go back to the older firmware. I will probably leave it now until the screen blanks out again.
If the screen goes blank again and pulling the plug mid-print does not work a second time, I will post again to let you know,
I had to double check the screen to make sure its still working before I hit "post". And it is working...
Even the date and time is correct. I don't remember when I saw that last. Un-freaking-believable.
     Dec 13, 2013:
This just gets curiouser and curiouser. By last night my touchscreen was very faded out again, The icons were still visible so I did not do anything about it, just left it to see what it will look like this morning. And this morning, its back to normal. I do leave the printer on all night. It does go to sleep ater 15 minutes.
     Dec 17,2013:
It still clear and crisp as the first day that I bought it. If it weren't in front of me, I wouldn't believe it. If anyone else tries this, I'd very interested in knowing whether this "technique" worked for you or not. Since I cannot test it, I cannot tell whether yanking the cord out mid-print made it work, or did I just happen to have chicken bones laying around that day.
    Jan. 6, 2014:
My screen started to fade again. This time I just pulled the plug while it was on and awake and left it unplugged overnight. When I plugged it in the following morning the icons were clear again.
It is so perplexing, what works for one person doesn't work for everyone. Especially the person where doing this make it a little better! How messed up is that. I guess its come down to always having to buy an extended warranty. HP used to be so reliable that the thought of an extended warranty would never have occured to me.

    Hi @Veritasabt,
I see that you are having issues scanning and copying in color from the glass and the ADF. Thank you for providing the screen shot. I can help you out today.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Update the printer's firmware. HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a Firmware.
Try scanning again to see if you have the same results.
