Oh no! Not another stop watch question?!?!?!

Hi
This question corresponds to the thread
http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Stopwatch-without-pausing-the-program/m-p/828959
The stopwatch.vi cannot be used as a subVI.
How do I get over this issue?
I essentially want to keep the start/stop boolean control as/is as well as the reset boolean along with the "STOP WATCH" numeric indicator.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated oh Knights of LabVIEW!

Hi tbob thank you again for your reply
Please refer to the attatched VI.
I am trying to build a VI that will monitor the "ageing" of "lamps" in hours. There are two banks A and B, each having 6 Modules, each having 8 lamps each, for a total of 2 * 6 * 8 = 96 lamps.
I essentially want to monitor the ageing of every single lamp. Which is why I believe using arrays would be an efficient way.
Each module will go through a period of ON/OFF power cycles. All the while accumalating the total hours that the lamp was ON. During this time a lamp can fault (much like a fused bulb) and hence the timer will stop.
The total time that the lamp in ON will be recorded and saved on an external file in the hardisk, so even if the LabVIEW program crashes, the data will not be lost. I should also be able to manipulate the external file in case I want to add/remove hours from that lamp.
I hope this clarifies my purpose.

  • I know.. not another film look question, but here is goes...

Hi all i hope you can help me here.
Im used to doing safety, corporate, induction videos so Ive never been interested in getting the "film look" But now Ive got a music video to do and i really don't want it to look interlaced.
Now i did some test on my HVX200 25p, and read up on it a little. Which brought me to my question.
I know that when shooting with real film cameras AND HD 25p cameras there is the rule not to pan very fast because it becomes jittery. But when i did my tests outside with my HVX200 25p PAL on a tripod (no panning) my footage seem a whole lot more jittery that film movies i see on tv. Its so jittery i cant use the footage! im to scared to do the music video on 25p.
So now i want to know, am i doing something wrong? Is the shutter speed or the way you capture in FCP got anything to do with the jittery? Or is 25p just that jittery?
Another question. Does anybody have some tips to get a better look and feel to my music video? plug ins? or whatever?
Thanks so much for your replies.
    Andre Meyer

    Hi Meyer,
The reason I said your video still looks jittery is because you have not graded or used any additional adaptors on your cam. Turning on a progressive shutter alone will just make your VIDEO look like 24/25P video! The movement is greatly exaggerated! The point I was trying to make is that once you have graded your footage and if you are lucky enough to use a 35mm adaptor, much of that jitteriness (if that’s a word?!) will not be so noticeable. Remember, if it goes away completely, you are back to square one almost! Its about how acceptable you can get with the 3 components I was talking about in my previous post.
I dont own an HVX200, but I have a V1E (not as good as the HVX200) and I find the cinema Gamma not that great as a default.. I have to tweak it quite a lot to achieve the all important contrast and saturated colours. As for your HVX, just have a play until u get a look u like. The Cinema Gammas on the Cheaper Canons are dreadful and make the cam lose all their contrast! I guess this varies a lot with the mid-priced prosumer cams?!
You don’t need to own a 5D MkII (an ergonomic disaster in my opinion unless u have the full rail kit!) to have that 35mm DOF control. There are quite a few 35mm adaptors out there that have attachments for many types of video cameras. There are users in this forum I think that use these types of adaptors with the HVX200’s. However, such equipment is not cheap.. and of course a good quality stills lens’s are not exactly cheap either!
    So to summarise:
    1. Use a progressive frame rate 24/25P
    2. Colour Grade to film... Best bet is to use Apple Colour... this is a really good colour corrector which has various preset that’s you can tweak and work pretty good as the film look. Of course you will need to experiment to get the effect u want. Alternatively, you can use Magic Bullet Looks.. which can be use used as a Plug-in to FCP, and is like Apple Colour on Steroids! It doesn’t offer the same amount of control as Color, but has some really interesting presets that can be easily tweaked.. and the good things is, this is all done without leaving FCP.. so its quick.
    3. If you want to go the whole way and go for a 35mm adaptor.. then do your home work. Do you currently own a select of still lenses? Canon L series or Nikon Pro series? Of course u don’t need the pro lenses, but in this set up the quality of your stills lens becomes really critical! Take a look on YouTube and see the effect these adapter give, they can be quite amazing! Be prepared to spend over £2500 for the adaptor alone!
    4. And of course, remember technique when shooting like this.. these adaptors do stop down your camera, you will probably have less light to play with. When u r tracking etc, DOF is really critical and can be difficult to master at first.
I don’t have any 35mm adapter, i try to achieve the film look by using steps 1 and 2..the result, well... its ok but often means I have to mess about with camera distances sometimes to achieve a decent DOF. Swings a roundabouts!

  • Completely new to lab view and need to get some stop watch help please

OK I am new to lab view so please be patient with me. I have a need for a stop watch that is triggered to start when two voltage values differ by more than 0.110V and then stop counting when they return to within 0.110v my goal is to capture the total amount of time the two voltages differ and record it along with the rest of the data is this possible and how would I do it? Thanks I am running 8.5

thanks for the quick response but thats not really enough info to help me as I am very very unfamiliar with lab view and have only been using it for a few days(mainly just plugging in copied sections) so hopefully someone can give me a little more help. But the good news is I am now looking into taking one of the Lab view courses but that probably won't help me with this problem this week. thanks again for your help
For starters, try to write the name correctly. It is LabVIEW, not lab view.
Seriously though, your best way of learning to is try some things yourself first. Look through the examples that ship with LabVIEW for the components Raven suggested (while loops, shift registers, etc.) We could give you a working example but you will learn far more by trying things for yourself. As suggested, try a few things and then post what you have done and what you are having trouble with. From there we can answer your questions rather than just do it for you.

  • Problems with a simple stop watch program

I would appreciate help sorting out a problem with a simple stop watch program. The problem is that it throws up inappropriate values. For example, the first time I ran it today it showed the best time at 19 seconds before the actual time had reached 2 seconds. I restarted the program and it ran correctly until about the thirtieth time I started it again when it was going okay until the display suddenly changed to something like '-50:31:30:50-'. I don't have screenshot because I had twenty thirteen year olds suddenly yelling at me that it was wrong. I clicked 'Stop' and then 'Start' again and it ran correctly.
I have posted the whole code (minus the GUI section) because I want you to see that the program is very, very simple. I can't see where it could go wrong. I would appreciate any hints.

Although I appreciate this information, it still doesn't actually solve the problem. I can't see an error in the logic (or the code). The fact that the formatting works most of the time suggests that the problem does not lie there. As well, I use the same basic code for other time related displays e.g. countdown timers where the user sets a maximum time and the computer stops when zero is reached. I haven't had an error is these programs.
For me, it is such a simple program and the room for errors seem small. I am guessing that I have misunderstood something about dates, but I obviously don't know.
Again, thank you for taking the time to look at the problem and post a reply.

After installing Mountain Lion, why is there Yahoo access for one user but not another?--both are administrators.

We've had several instances where we have had to run chkdsk on arrays with over 1m files. Average completion time is approximately 72 hours. The maximum downtime window they have available is the 64 hour weekend window. File sizes and number of files were
much smaller then than they are now.
The idea, in theory, was to use VHDs to compartmentalize the data into smaller volumes which could be more easily managed. It would also improve performance when transferring these compartments of data as they would use sequential read/write rather than
fragmented/random. This idea was never fleshed out in entirety, they don't split data up into little containers, but simply into big ones per project. Hence the 11m files in one container that I am currently trying to diagnose.
Some other important facts: The VHD in question is mounted in B:/project/ as this server also allows remote workers to log in, but they are restricted to see only data in E:. Disks A-D are hidden via group policy.
Update: icacls is failing on a large number of files within this dataset. I counted the path characters to ensure it wasn't the 255 character limit I was encountering and verified that the paths being blocked are only about 150 characters long. Once it finishes,
I'll have to try taking ownership and then re-running it. At this point I still have no idea how long to expect. I'm running out of time as the environment will be in use again at 9AM tomorrow morning.

  • Bubble Event firing in one company but not another

Having spent the past 2 days trying to get the installer working (which it finally does thanks to people on this forum!), I've finally pushed my add-in out to people this morning.
Unfortunately, the bubbleevent seems to be being ignored in all companies bar the test company.
The code is below. The nominal codes do not begin with "720", so that section is not being fired in either company.
So, my question is, why would a bubble event work in one company but not another?
Private Sub oApp_ItemEvent(ByVal FormUID As String, ByRef pVal As SAPbouiCOM.ItemEvent, ByRef BubbleEvent As Boolean) Handles oApp.ItemEvent
            Dim NumberRows As Long
            Dim oMatrix As SAPbouiCOM.Matrix

            pVal.FormTypeEx = "139" Or pVal.FormTypeEx = "133" Or pVal.FormTypeEx = "179" Then
REM Set to active form and Sales/Purchase transaction matrix
                oForm = oApp.Forms.ActiveForm
                oItem = oApp.Forms.Item(FormUID).Items.Item("38")
                oMatrix = oItem.Specific

    Hi Daniel,
Then the only option I see is that the If statement is true in one database, and false on the others.
    If oApp.Company.DatabaseName = "FOLLIS_LIVE" Or oApp.Company.DatabaseName = "FOLLUK_TEST" Then
    If oCheck.Value = "" And Left(oCheck2.Value, 3) = "720" Then

    Exit For
    End If
    End If
    If oCheck.Value = "" Then
    oApp.MessageBox("Please enter a Project on row " & oRowCount)
    BubbleEvent = False
    End If
One of this is should be different on the companies.
Nothing else comes to my mind.

  • LiveCycle form stop watch

Is it possible to create a stop watch that the form user can start and stop as many times as needed. When finished, the total time recorded by the stop watch would be displayed.
    Example:
User starts the stop watch at 08:08:00 stop watch displays 00:00:00
User stops the stop watch at 08:45:10 stop watch displays 00:37:10
User starts the stop watch at 09:15:00 stop watch displays 00:37:10 (when started but shows time accumulating)
User stops the stop watch at 09:30:25 stop watch displays 00:52:35
Total time recorded is displayed 00:52:35
If someone has an example form, I would appreciate your help. I have seen a stop watch in an Acrobat form but do not know how to convert it to LiveCycle.

I understand how to get the current time and the time when the clock is stopped. I also understand how to subtract the numbers and then convert them back to time. I have never used variables. I know where they go and how to create them but do not know how to use them in a script. Is there any chance to could create an example? I need to be able to start and stop the clock several times and end up with the total time recorded.
Does anyone have an example LiveCycle form with a stop watch? Am I the only one who has ever needed this?

  • Setting up a stop watch

Hi, could somebody please help me with setting up a stopwatch in my program to count time? I've attached my VI and it includes my attempt at trying to set up a stopwatch. The problem is that it is counting but my program doesn't seem to stop and data is aqcuired when the VI is run once. SO I'm not getting continuous data acquisition. Also, I can't seem to stop the program. I have to abort it. I would really appreciate anyone's help on this.

    Hello,
thank you for your suggestions. I have made the changes and tidied up my block diagram. The stop watch works now but the only issue now is that the interface just displays the results the first time round the data is acquired i.e. when the Vi is run the first time round. The reason why I had put everything in a loop was because everytime  a new set of data was acquired, the interface would display the results and save all the data that is  acquired not only the first set.. Now, I can only save and display the first set of data. Any suggestions to this issue wil be appreciated. I've attached the modified Vi.
    Thanks

  • Another color management question

    Hi folks,
Apologies for yet another color management question, but Im getting very confused and could do with some help. I use a Canon 10D and Canon 30D. Ive come to LightRoom from Pixmantec Raw Shooter.
As Ive gotten more serious about producing high quality images for both the web and as prints, I thought Id invest in the Colorvision Spyder2 calibration product. So my monitor is now calibrated (quite a difference from what I was seeing!) and I have a calibration profile applied.
My needs are pretty obvious I want my images to look the same wherever theyre viewed including exported files (such as JPEGs) whether this be on my monitor (in LightRoom, a web browser, Paint Shop Pro, whatever) and on a printer.
Perhaps Im getting confused because Im trying to compare what LightRoom does with what RawShooter does.
In RawShooter, when exporting from RAW to JPEG, I can specify the RGB Working Space Im using and then select my monitor profile. I think that what happens is that the export mechanism takes this profile into account and, low and behold, the JPEG looks fine when viewed in any web browser - the colours are exactly the same as in RawShooter. In Paint Shop Pro they look fine too unless I enable Color Management in which case (Im guessing) the monitor profile is, essentially, applied twice! But the upshot is I seem to get the results I want.
What I cant figure out is how I do this in LightRoom. I can make the same adjustments to the RAW image as I did in RawShooter, but there doesnt seem an option for me to select my profile on export to JPEG only the standard 3 color spaces. Anyway the result is a JPEG that looks somewhat different when viewed in a web browser, or Paint Shop Pro with Color Management turned off. However, if I turn Color Management on in Paint Shop Pro, then it looks fine. So Im assuming that my profile isnt accounted for when exporting JPEGs from LightRoom.
So any pointers or explanations would be really appreciated. I also acknowledge that this is my first foray into color management, and feel free to tell me to go and read some introductory article (link please!) and then come back with a sensible question if thats whats needed!
    Thanks in advance.
    - Pete

    Lightroom color management.
a.) Monitor profile used: The profile set as the default in your operating system (e.g. Windows xp). (your monitor profile software usually does this when you calibrate/profile your monitor).
    b.) Working space: ProPhotoRGB
c.) Export color space: You can choose one of the following sRGB; Adobe RGB or Pro Photo RGB.
There is no option (afaik) to change a.) or b.) the option you choose in c.) will affect how the exported image will be displayed in color managed applications or non-color managed applications.
Non-color managed applications are not able to display Adobe RGB or Pro Photo RGB correctly. I guess if you wish a consistent display of your images in color managed and non-color managed applications then the only common factor is sRGB and you should export your images in sRGB color space.
The benefits of the other expanded color spaces are in printing and you also would have to get this end of your color management correct. Printing profiles to match your printer and each paper being used etc.
Until you can get this all sorted out you will get better results from sRGB, this is also applicable when using most commercial printing services.

      a. on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" >
tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
      b. Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select
"done", in the upper right corner
      c. sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the
Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you
should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the
          security questions.
      d. At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and
selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You
should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security
          questions.
It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.
    Good Luck friends!

PowerBook 150 not Run disket flash Question mark System 7.5.3 - 18 parts.  Please Help !!!

    Hi,
First of all, in order to verify whether the 7.5.3 system software files are of the type earlier downloadable from Apple (with one large image file split onto floppy-sized segments), could you confirm that the first of the eighteen files has a file name with ".smi" at the end (before .bin or .hqx), and that the remaining seventeen files each include ".part"? The US version had totally nineteen files (one. smi and eighteen .part), but as I indicated above, this was different depending on language version.
If the PowerBook 150 is empty (without an operating system), you will need a startup floppy. Do you have access to a Disk Tools floppy for the PB 150? A Network Access Disk 7.5 floppy would be useful under all circumstances, and can be used as an alternative startup disk (and the system folder could be copied to the hard disk, and would then act as a temporary system). The problem today is that Apple's older software downloads list, which contained the Network Access Disk 7.5, does not appear to be available any more.
If you have the NAD 7.5 file already, the normal way of creating a bootable floppy was via a utility called Disk Copy (on another Macintosh computer with a built-in floppy drive). Disk Copy 6.3.3 can still be downloaded (https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1262). The Make a Floppy command under the Utilities menu is used to create properly sector-copied floppy disks. Please note that the Disk Copy utility is not needed or used to mount a self-mounting image (.smi).
There were special methods allowing an NAD 7.5 floppy to be made through a Windows PC as well (using a Windows version of StuffIt/Aladdin Expander and a utility such as WinImage).
It is also possible to obtain a version of StuffIt Expander for the PB 150 through a PC (but the PowerBook would need at least a temporary operating system first). With access to an older Windows PC (capable of running a DOS program) with a floppy drive, you may want to try the following: Prepare an empty PC-formatted 1.44 MB diskette via FORMAT A: in DOS or the "full" formatting option under Windows. Download the MACDISK.EXE file from http://rrzs42.uni-regensburg.de/Macintosh/files/macftp.html . Run this MACDISK.EXE (DOS) program on the Windows PC. Follow the instructions on screen. The result will be a Mac-formatted (sic!) floppy that could be moved to and used with the PB 150. This floppy contains a StuffIt Expander installer. Once installed, drag downloaded .bin files onto the StuffIt Expander program icon to decode them.
