Ok, so here's the bottom line...again. *sigh*

Ok, so I need someone to hold my hand because I am trying to make sense of the 20+ threads I've read and I think I'm losing the last few hairs remaining.
Say you have AT&T Internet Service, and you're using their 2WIRE router.  Everyone in the back of the house is happy with the WiFi signal they're getting while I'm at the front with little to nothing.  My dinosaur toshiba computer gets a signal, but my iMac gets the bottom dot.  I think it's just my room, because outside my bedroom door the bars get better.  Now I know there's little I can do about the design of the building, but if you were in this situation and I had hired you Apple techies to solve this conundrum, how would you fix it.
Do I:
1: Move out to a more modern abode.
2: Buy 1,000 feet of Ethernet cable, throw it over the room and drag it to my bedroom window.
3: Switch service providers.
4: Hunker down and pray for technology to improve.
I'm really serious.  If you think you can solve this problem by recommending that I buy A, B or C, and install it as such, I will be most grateful.
Just so you know, I just bought (for affordability reasons) an old school Apple Extreme Base, the one that looks like a space station. I plugged it in upstairs and I seem to get a faint signal.  In fact, I disconnected from the main WiFi signal and it loaded up and all.  I just can't sit around and wait hours to load a page.
Thank you for your help.

a pair of powerline adapters such as these might be all you need.

When using Windows 2007 in Vista 32bit and HP Deskjet 6620 printer, the bottom line gets cut off.  I have searched and searched but find no fix. Please help. What I do find is HP blaming Microsoft and Microsoft blaming HP. Where is the fix??? Think of all of us frustrated users. Is there a fix out there?????  I attempted to download a new driver, assign it then attempted the patch all to no avail. I was even told try to bold the document...still no fix. Where is the patch? This is an HP issue. Please assist.
I hope this gets addressed ASAP. In my search many have had this issue with HP. Here is one comment...and it does not look good..."I am extremely upset with this issue and spent far too long trying to work with HP support. The HP support person was hopeless. I gave up and went off on my own. I hope HP releases drivers that correct this problem rightly in the future."
If this is not fixed or addressed I am sure it will affect the future buying of HP products from me and others. Let's see HP come out of this issue smelling like a rose. I await the fix.

I will reply to myself....there is a fix. Thanks to someone else who had the same issue, went round and round with HP and then had this issue escalated up to get a more experienced tech who then had the print driver 990C installed to replace the driver he had selected. Me I had the 6620 which is the correct driver but had the issues so I tried the 990C driver and guess what.....it worked!!!!!!! So, HP is this your driver issue or is it Microsoft?  I say driver issue. You might want to get a patch out their for the fix.

  • I came up with a way to increase the bottom line and increase public opinion of Verizon.

When the Verizon customer service staff read script to customers all day, they know all the details... all the small details.  The average user does not.   Some people use Verizon email for important email, and then other email accounts for less important messages.  There should be an option to pay a fee if the average user does not see any reason that Verizon would turn off email.  Other companies have email.
Look at the ads for the Discover card in the subway.  They read - Discover IT is New, IT is Different, IT is Human.  Talk to a real person anytime you want.  It will change the way you feel about ________.
What if Verizon changed.  What if all the staff of Verizon, knowing that their Midyear reviews are coming suggested change.  What if they could say "I came up with a multi-million dollar way to increase revenue."  I came up with a way to increase the bottom line and increase public opinion of Verizon.
Give the customer a choice to pay $200 for a one time transfer of email.  Then Verizon is a hero and makes money too.  Multipy $200 by the number of people who had to give up internet this month and that number has to be big!  Put that message on your midyear review.  Nobody can tell where it came from.  They will only know that you are trying to think of ways to increase the bottom line.  Who knows... maybe there will be a raise in it for you!  Good luck.

Oh yes, this is great – At last, I can see what I’m trying to do at least.  Appreciate your input so rapidly.  I jump on the link so rapidly that I failed to notice if there might be a set half this much.  I might be able to see it half this much increase like 100% instead of 200%?  Oh don’t get me wrong.  I’m not complaining, was just wondering – what if…

  • Taxes, Fees, and the bottom line?

So, I'm looking at the More Everything Plan with 4GB's which shows the monthly bill for 120.00 for one line. I'm also looking at the 3GB one for 110.00 a month. I know there are extra charges, taxes, and activation fees. Does anyone have one of these two plans and wouldn't mind telling me the bottom line?
(I'm looking at the Samsung Galaxy s5 if that helps.)

I don't know. The billing cycle date is chosen at random. The first is always higher as you are paying for a partial billing and the full month cycle plus the activation/upgrade fee, taxes and regulatory fees.

  • An upgrade for my IPod 3rd gen  and now all my APPS close as soon as they open, except for the first page and the bottom line.

I just downloaded the latest upgrade for my 3rd gen IPod and now most of the Apps close as soon as they open. Only the first page of Apps and the bottom line will operate. Does anyone know of a solution. I checked with common problems and I don't have other Apps open.

If the ipod was completely drained of power, you have to leave the ipod connected to a power source (Like your PC) for up to an hour before it will have enough power to power up and be seen by windows and iTunes.

Could you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? (I'm having trouble determining from your "More system information" whether it's enabled or disabled.) Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If you restart Firefox, is the issue resolved?

  • Scroll bar obscures the bottom line in the iTunes window

This is not a question, but an observation about a problem with the current implementation of the appearing/disappearing scroll bars in the iTunes window. Apple should have a left some exta space at the bottom so that the bottom item would not be obscurred by the scroll bar.

Make your observation here and it might get changed:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • The Bottom Line...

Hi Folks! The time has come for me to replace my old 1.8 G5 iMac. I've read about the problems people are having with the gfx drivers, the overheating, and the occasional power supply issue on the new Alu iMac. I use my machine for work using p-shop for illustration, playing WoW, and of course the usual internet/mail/iTunes.
My question is- how widespread are these problems? How severe? Will I be taking a serious risk with my money and my time if I get one of these machines? Should I wait until the next wave?
Thanks in advance for your time!

    PeteWoods sez:
My question is- how widespread are these problems? How severe? Will I be taking a serious risk with my money and my time if I get one of these machines? Should I wait until the next wave?
    I sez;
Impossible to tell. It does appear that there was a pent-up demand for the new iMacs, especially when they were delayed for longer than any other iMac updrade. Because of this, there are so very many being shipped in such a short time that there are numerically a lot of people with issues even if the actual percentage represented is quite low.
I ordered mine as soon as I could after the keynote speach & have had absolutely no issues with it and no adverse affects from either of the iMac updaters and no fan noise & no overheating and it has never frozen or shut down or burped or ****** or anything else.
My ONLY complaints are that there is not a sleep indicator light on the front, and the ON/OFF button is on the back, behind the lower left corner, out of sight, and should have been on the SIDE at the bottom left, but these are design issues and not performance related.
My advice is, if you do buy one, try to get one like mine, with no issues, and get the AppleCare just in case. For me AppleCare has been a total waste of money. I got it in my wife's B&W G3 tower and never used it. Never needed to. I got it in my youngest daughter's DV SE iMac and never used it. Never needed to. I got it in my oldest daughter's eMac and never used it. Never needed to. I got it in my G4 iBook and never used it. Never needed to. And I got it on this new aluminum iMac. I hope I wasted my money, again.

  • Is there any way to get back the actual downloading process in the bottom line without open in a new window? I always close my browser before the downloading are finished.

In the previous version of firefox there was a 'tray' on the bottom which always showed the downloading processes. I never open the downloadings in new window, because that is disturbing me. The problem is, if I don't know whether the dowloadings are finished, I can easily abort them.

No other application can open PageMaker files, only PageMaker. You'd need a copy of PageMaker (and license) and a Mac of ancient vintage, one with a floppy drive. The ancient Mac is needed not just to read the floppied but to run PageMaker which won't run on modern Macs.
Frankly, if you have a paper copy, scan it and start from that!

  • So, what's the bottom line about these new iMac displays?

My MBP needs repair again, and while waiting for it to be picked up by Apple, fixed and returned I've revived my even older PBG4, running really slowly off an external USB 1 HD.
Since my work depends on using my Mac daily, I was thinking of buying a new computer and using my MBP for a backup.
The prices on the 21.5" and 27" iMacs are good. And they look beautiful when I saw them at Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara. A new 15" or 17" (like I have now) MBP is really too expensive for me right now.
I have had very bad luck with Mac purchases. Almost every one I've ever bought has needed repair - usually as soon as I brought it home. And now I'm reading all these messages about the display problems. Also, the 27" versions seem to have a 2 week delay on orders (though the 21.5" ones are available now.)
If my purpose is to quickly get an affordable Mac this week so I don't have to labor through using this old PBG4 while my MBP is out, are the iMacs ok? Or are the display problems almost universal?
It's sometimes hard to tell since these forums are, after all, a place where people come to discuss problems!
    Any opinions?
    Thanks,
    doug

Thanks for all your replies, people. And hello to you, kguy!
I never even read about broken pixels on the iSight camera. Something else to worry about!
There are some things that bother me greatly about my display and I will argue to the ends of the earth to get an exchange if they happen. The main thing for me is broken pixels. On my MacBook Pro (late 2006) I had 1 bad pixel and it was driving me to distraction and I argued until they exchanged it.
On the other hand, at the same time, LOTS of people were posting about "uneven illumination" problems with their MBP screens and posting lots of photos and there were a lot of threads about it. I suppose if I looked hard enough, after seeing what they were talking about, I could probably see something similar in my MBP screen, but it honestly never bothered me.
But broken pixels truly drive me to distraction.
I haven't seen this "yellowing" thing at any of the floor models at Yodobashi Camera. But it could be because of the comment in this thread about having to look at the display at a severe angle to see.
I've also experienced what kguy has experienced about support in Japan. There is a general reluctance to admit that there is a problem and they will insist that things are "within acceptable range" (to whom?), but then they find some other excuse to actually go ahead and do the repair. It's like they don't want to set a precedent for other people, but they want to resolve the issue and not leave an unhappy customer. If all else fails with Apple Japan you can nicely say, "OK. Thanks. I guess my next step is to talk with the consumer affairs agency." At that point they inevitably say, "Please hold a moment" and come back with a resolution to your problem.
I've had problems, usually out of the box, with every single Mac I have ever purchased except one - my iMac G5 (long since sold at an auction site). Not a broken pixel, not a single problem. I loved that machine, except was upset that it was basically obsoleted 3 weeks after I bought it when they came out with the Intel versions!
Anyway, I might go over to the store and see if I can see this "yellowing" problem people are talking about. Like I said, I didn't notice it before.

  • I'm TRULY not trying to be a smart a##.... but what is  the bottom line??

I've been on the boards and forums since yesterday watching and waiting for the iPhone 3G roll out and iPod Touch software updates. It seems to me that based on everything I've been reading, that the entire roll out has been a failure. The @me.com has been a problem since Wednesday, no one that I've heard of has had a new iPhone activated ( based on what I'm reading on the boards) , and no one has been able to get their iPod Touch software upgraded successfully.
Is this an accurate observation? I'm REALLY REALLY not trying to be one of those negative posters that only point out the issues Apple is / has done poorly. I am relatively new to Apple and love what I have ( 7 iPods, 2 Apple TV's and a MacBook ), but it just seems Apple totally missed the mark on this. I am ABSOLUTELY open to being corrected if my observation is incorrect, but I would like to see some dialogue on this.... what do you think has happened? How could something of this magnitude have occured? I'm really interested in hearing from others...others that can talk about it intelligently as apposed to just taking the opportunity to dump on Apple.
    Thanks !
    Chuck :- )

Hindsight is 20x20 and it's easy to arm chair quarterback but, here's my $0.02.
Apple tried to deploy the iPhone 3G, the iPod touch 2.0, the App Store, and a completely re-vamped .mac all in one day. It was ambitious and I'm sure they had a good reason to do it all at once. Perhaps the sync service from MobileMe require the new code on the phone and iPod, or the iTunes store needed to be updated in an all or nothing mode. I don't know, but I've been involved in upgrades of web services and there's always some wrinkle in your plan when you do these things.
It's frustrating and I don't like the idea that I've got to wait for this mess to get cleaned up. Just imagine another company trying this ambitious of a new product roll out? Imagine Microsoft rolling out a new Zune, a revamped MSN, and a new version of Windows Mobile all in one day. How about Blizzard trying to roll out Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, and World of Warcraft expansion #2 on the same day.
For some reason Apple decided that rolling out all these products on the same day was the thing to do. Maybe they needed to break AT&T's enrollment server in order to escape a bad business deal? Maybe the guys at Apple product management who did the roll out planning decided it let the "new guy" do all the work because he's not a great guy to work with. With organizations as large as AT&T and Apple there could be any number of reasons. I'm guessing we'll never really know so I'm going to try to come up with something silly and entertaining, like:
Some junior execs at Apple got "double dog dared" at some management symposium to try to roll out as many products in one days as possible and thus we have 11 July 2008

  • Need the bottom line on seeing HTML

I created, I published, looks great in iWeb style on .Mac On the web, there's no way to see HTML code. I need HTML to be found, right? otherwise spiders only find first page, if at all, right?
can I unpublish, the re-publish to a folder, then use Cyberduck to load an iWeb created site to another host? if so, then what to do when I want to make little changes?
    thanks

On the web, there's no way to see HTML code.
Do you not see the html when you look at a page with your browser and do View > View Source?
can I unpublish, the re-publish to a folder, then use
Cyberduck to load an iWeb created site to another
host? if so, then what to do when I want to make
    little changes?
Whether you publish to a folder or elsewhere, you open your pages that end in .html with any text editor and change whatever you like. If you republish later you will have to make the changes again.

  • What is the bottom line-does new firmware allow us to use TM with Airdisk?

Just as the topic reads - does the newly released firmware allow us to use an external HD connected to Airport Extreme for Time Machine?
All of the Mac sites seem to report that it does - does it?

It certainly seems to be supported using an AirDisk connected to my 1TB TC. I do have an AEBS but haven't tried it on that yet.
