Ok, using Windows Look-feel ... any changes?

Hi:
I am presently using the Kunststoft theme. I want to the use the SUN supplied Windows Look-feel, but I cannot change the black background in my desktop application. I use JInternal frames but start with a desktop pane.
Does anyone know how to specifically change the black background over the "default" black background that the windows UI sets. I tried setBackground(new Color(255,0,0)); .. got red for a moment, then the screen changed to black.
Any help appreciated. I really like the Windows Look-feel, but a lighter background desktop area is preferred.
Thanks,
PiratePete

After you set the Windows L&F, you must set another property.
Here is an example:
//Set the system L&F
UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());
//Perhaps the system is windows, so you must do this if you want to see
//the mnemonics without pressint Alt key
WindowsLookAndFeel.setMnemonicHidden(false);

    Hi,
    Before going any further, I would like to verify if your pc is in a domain.
    If your computer is part of a domain,  this feature may be disable via GPO by your system administrator. You may need to contact it with your IT department.
    If it is not in a domain but the issue appears, please make sure you are logging on with system administrator account. In addition, if any security program
    is installed, please temporarily disable it.
    Meanwhile, please check the GPO settings on your PC:
    1. Click Start, type “gpedit.msc” and press enter.
    2. Navigate to Computer Configuration-> Administrative Templates ->
    Windows Component -> Windows Update. Make sure the states of all setting are Not Configured.
    3. Navigate to Computer Configuration-> Administrative Templates->

    Hope it helps.

  • How could i use mac look & feel in windows?

    as it's restricted by licenses issues
    and no specific lib available
    anybody knows?
    thx
    max

    Well, actually the Mac look and feel available in Apple's standard JVM is native to the OS and may not work correctly under OSes other than OS X.
    If what you are looking for is a high quality look and feel package, then consider JGoodies Looks(at www.jgoodies.com). Looks is free and open source. There's also a very elegant, but commercial, look and feel called the Alloy Look and Feel (take a look at www.incors.com.)

  • Crashing Techra TE2000 Needs Bios Update, Using Windows XP. Any Advice?

    I have an older Toshiba TE2000 that has been crashing lately due to an insufficient BIOS update. It also states there is a problem with the RAM. Each time the computer crashes and reboots, it sends me to a Windows supports site that has diagnosed the problem, referring me to a BIOS update.
    I have been doing my homework and know that a BIOS update is very tricky and can lead to permanent damage. It may be necessary.. however I don't want to have to buy a new laptop.
    Can anyone offer any advice or support?
    It started crashing a few weeks ago, and crashed three times the other day. Are the crashes affecting my computer and what will happen if I don't update soon?
    Thanks for all your help

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Go to the Product Support Link at the top of this page, enter in your model, then clik on the Download Tab to find the available bios files for that model.  DO NOT update the bios from within Windows.  Don't do it, don't even think about doing it if you want to use your computer again.  When you double click on the download you will be presented with the choice of creating a CD to flash the bios from.  USE THIS METHOD.  You can use a CD-RW so you don't waste a blank, but even the cost of a regular blank CD is cheap compared to the $100 that most places will charge you to fix a botched bios flash.  Be sure to burn the CD at the slowest possible speed to ensure the best possible quality.  Make sure that your battery is fully charged, installed, and the AC Adapter is plugged in just in case.
    And don't forget to go into the bios and hit the F9 key to load Bios/Setup Defaults then F10 to exit and save just prior to and immediately after updating the bios.
    If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • I installed the upgrade and now itunes can't find my library and doesn't recognize my devices. Using Windows 7. Any help?

    Help!!! I installed the 10.5 update and now itunes can't find my library or recognize my devices. Running on Windows 7.

    For moving your iTunes library, I recommend this method...
    Assuming you use the iTunes default settings where iTunes copied added items to your iTunes folder and organizes your library (meaning - everything is all self contained in the iTunes folder), then all you have to do is drag & drop your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes Music folder you find inside the iTunes folder) to the external drive and copy the entire thing.
    If you want to test that it worked or would like to actually start using it from that location instead, use these instructions when you start iTunes to point it to the new location...
    How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
    If you are just testing, then close iTunes after you verify it works, and restart iTunes again with the same instructions and point it back to your internal drive (original) location.
    Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • HT5364 Webpage content other than the homepage cannot be seen in Safari, can see we site tabs but no content.  Works using Windows Explorer. Any ideas?

    Cannot see content of website other than homepage in Safari.  Can see tabs to navigate to other pages but no content. Works in Windows Explorer so it may not be website.

    I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.

  • JFrame resize flicker using look&feel

    I just discovered JFrame's setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated. Of course, it works great (refreshing to see it on vanilla windows!), but the frame flickers during mouse resizing. Every pixel the mouse moves, the frame is drawn gray then the previous frame's image is drawn over. Is there any way to stop this?
    And is there any way to do dynamic resizing? i.e. The window continuously revalidates&redraws itself while the user is resizing, and not just when the user stops resizing. At the least, is there a way to dynamically resize the border? Otherwise, a gray box (and the flicker) are the only things that shows until the user stops resizing.
    Specs: WinMe/JDK1.4.

    Run the following complete program and you should get the flicker problem when resizing it. Them dukes be still available! Tell me if you have any idea how to correct it, or how to dynamically resize the "guts" of the window. Thanks.
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class JTestFrame extends JFrame {
         public static void main(String args[]) {
              new JTestFrame().show();
         private JMenuBar menuBar = new JMenuBar();
         public JTestFrame() {
              super("Java is cool");
              // Get the pane to add components to
              Container content = getContentPane();
              // Resize the frame
              Toolkit kit = getToolkit();
              Dimension wndSz = kit.getScreenSize();
              setBounds(wndSz.width/4, wndSz.height/4, wndSz.width/2, wndSz.height/2);
              // Make the frame use its look&feel for its border

              // Make a menu for no other purpose than making a menu

              fileMenu.setMnemonic(KeyEvent.VK_F);
              JMenuItem fileExitMenuItem = new JMenuItem("Exit");
              fileExitMenuItem.setMnemonic(KeyEvent.VK_X);
              fileExitMenuItem.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                        System.exit(0);
              fileMenu.add(fileExitMenuItem);

  • Windows look and feel instead, in InternalFrameDemo.java

    Hi all, I am learning swing and I am trying to modify the
    InternalFrameDemo.java source from
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/examples/components/index.html#InternalFrameDemo
    My idea is to add the line
    JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true); in the constructor, but it doesn't work
    and I don't understand why.
    Could somebody please help me?
    Kindest regards,
    Lasse
    public InternalFrameDemo() {
    super("InternalFrameDemo");
    //Make the big window be indented 50 pixels from each edge
    //of the screen.
    int inset = 50;
    Dimension screenSize = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize();
    setBounds(inset, inset,
    screenSize.width - inset*2,
    screenSize.height - inset*2);
    //FDoesn't work
    JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
    //Set up the GUI.
    desktop = new JDesktopPane(); //a specialized layered pane
    createFrame(); //create first "window"
    setContentPane(desktop);
    setJMenuBar(createMenuBar());
    //Make dragging a little faster but perhaps uglier.
    desktop.setDragMode(JDesktopPane.OUTLINE_DRAG_MODE);
    }

    Uh I think you're mistaken. Whenever in doubt or something doesn't work as expected, check the javadocs. The link to the javadocs can usually be found really easily by typing "java 6 classname". In this case:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/swing/JFrame.html
    If you want to set the Windows look & feel as your thread title suggests, this was not the method you were looking for as the javadocs will tell you. That method controls if a frame is decorated or not (as the name suggests), which it is by default. Setting it to true will not change anything.
    So what then? You type into Google "java swing windows look and feel". Without quotes of course.

  • HT1751 After "Restoring iTunes Library Backup" it wont link to the files in the iTunes folder. I've followed the correct procedure, and iTunes lists all my music correctly (but with no artwork), but can't locate any of the files. Using Windows 7. Help ple

    After "Restoring iTunes Library backup" it wont link to the files in the iTunes folder. I've followed the procedure as described, and the iTunes folder is in the correct location. iTunes lists all my music correctly (albeit with no artwork), but can't locate any of the files.
    I've been restoring my iTunes folder from a backup hard drive to a new computer on which I've downloaded the latest iTunes (10.7). If this is a newer version than the one I backed up with could this be the problem? (I had the latest (to my knowledge) iTunes when I backed up the folder about 3 weeks ago, was this version 10.7?)
    Or is the version of iTunes (within recent updates) not an issue when restoring a library?
    Using Windows 7.
    Any help please?

    From the top of the page where the scripts live...
    The general method of use is to download the script to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist. Some scripts offer a choice of track by track confirmation of changes or fully automatic processing of the selection. Many of the scripts can optionally display a progress bar while running.
    You are strongly advised to backup your entire library, or at the very least the iTunes Library.itl file, before use. Test the behaviour of your chosen script on a small group of files first to make sure it does what you want before applying it to large numbers of files.
    Most builds of Windows will execute *.vbs scripts when you double-click them. If that doesn't happen then you might need to visit the Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features control panel to enable the Windows Scripting Host. I can track down details if you have issues.
    Backing up and restoring data is an area that is often glossed over. Most people don't try to learn much about it until they've lost something important. (Me too )
    If your iTunes library was in the usual layout then normally copying the whole iTunes folder from the User's Music folder in the old computer to the User's Music folder in the new one will usually work fine. Ideally this is done before iTunes is installed so that there is no empty library to replace, and all settings are picked up from the old library. This post contains more details.

  • Look & Feel of Applet

    I have a static initializer in my Applet:
    public class ObjectEditApplet extends JApplet implements ActionListener {
    static {
    try {
    UIManager.setLookAndFeel (UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());
    }catch(Exception e) {
    Do something...
    It shows all the Applet contents with Windows Look&Feel the first time. Next time the Applet is loaded it has Metal Look&Feel. I have seen that many have had the same problem but none of the simple solutions suggested have worked for me. Putting the code in the Applet constructor makes at least some panels show up with the right Look& Feel.
    What am I supposed to do? Thanks in advance for any hints!
    Magnus

    Hello!
    I think this is a known problem, try to put your "change look and feel" code in the start method of your applet, this may help.
    If not, then try the following after setting up the look and feel:
    SwingUtilities.updateComponentTree(this);
    where "this" is your applet.
    Good Luck
