Olap cubes in 10g for reporting

Hi -
I am trying figure out how to use the olap cube I built in 10g.
1) Can you use materialized views on top of the olap cube in 10g? Sounds like this is a 11g feature?
2) Is query re-write for olap cubes available in 10g?
3) How are you accessing olap cubes in 10g other than using the Oracle reporting tools.
Thanks,
Frank

Hi Frank,
To answer your questions:
1) This is an 11g only feature
2) This is an 11g only feature
3) The options for accessing OLAP cubes are described here:- http://wiki.oracle.com/page/I+am+Completely+New+to+Oracle+OLAP
I hope this helps

  • Unable to open OLAP cube in Infoview for Crystal Report

    Hello,
I am currently confused with a crystal report designed via OLAP grid on a BW query and working fine on Crystal designer module on my PC but sending an error when I tried it on INFOVIEW "unable to open OLAP CUBE".
I checked all parameters and database connexions on BO Entreprise CMC : it is OK.
I am on BO XI 3.1 SP 3 entreprise and BW 3.5 or BW 7.0 (both are in concern).
When I tried a simple report on a BW query just drop fields of the query into the report and sending it on Infoview, it is OK.
Just OLAP grid is KO. I do not understand, it is MDX language too ? Somebody can help or faced the same trouble ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • How to make cube data avilable for reporting

    Hello,
I have loaded data in to info cube from flat file, and created a query using BEx Analyzer. that query does not return results and gives an error msg "No Applicable Data Found".
Padmanabha Rao had a same problem. In his thread, expert is recommending to check whether the data is available for Reporting by Rt clicking Infocube -> Manage -> Requests tab. Ideally, you'll be able see an indicator(Query icon) if it's available for reporting.
My cube data is not available for reporting, how can I make it available for reporting?
    Regards,
    Tejas.

    Normally when the data gets loaded to cube, it will be available for reporting unlike DSO where you need to activate the data to make it available for reporting. There could be many reasons why the data is not available for reporting;
    1. May be there is aggregrates created on the cube and the data never been rolled up to the aggregates. If you see a summation sign next to the cube then there is aggregates created on the cube and you need to fill the aggregates first before you can have the data available for reporting in the cube. To do that, manage ->rollup and start, that will fill the aggregates.
    2. If there is any request in the cube which is still red, then any request after that won't be available for reporting until you either delete the red request.
If the problem still persist, then I would just delete all the data from the cube and reload the data again.
    thanks.

  • How to make data loaded into cube NOT ready for reporting

Hi Gurus: Is there a way by which data loaded into cube, can be made NOT available for reporting.
    Please suggest. <removed>
    Thanks

See, by default a request that has been loaded to a cube will be available for reporting. Bow if you have an aggregate, the system needs this new request to be rolled up to the aggregate as well, before it is available for reporting...reason? Becasue we just write queries for the cube, and not for the aggregate, so you only know if a query will hit a particular aggregate at its runtime. Which means that if a query gets data from the aggregate or the cube, it should ultimately get the same data in both the cases. Now if a request is added to the cube, but not to the aggregate, then there will be different data in both these objects. The system takes the safer route of not making the 'unrolled' up data visible at all, rather than having inconsistent data.
    Hope this helps...

  • OLAP Cube Showing Capacity for Every Project

We are upgrading from Project Server 2007 to 2013.
One of our old OLAP views, using Portfolio Analyzer, in Data Analysis allowed up to set the Project List next to the Resource List, showing totals for remaining work and capacity. This allowed us to compare Remaining Work and Capacity for a filtered
list of resources. Then if needed, we could expand one resource and see the Projects making up their remaining work. Capacity is blank for all projects and is only shown at the resource level. This also filters the list of projects to just what
    the resource is assigned to.
In 2013, the cube seems to have changed to the point that capacity is calculated for every project. This makes the OLAP query take forever... it is calculating capacity for every resource for 500 project... but it also then shows every project on the
system for the resource expanded, which defeats the purpose of showing the project list.
The only work around is to remove the project list when showing capacity, or remove the capacity when showing the project list. Which to my report consumers means two views (reports via excel services) instead of one.
Can anyone tell me where the option for this is, or did MS change the schema to a point that this is no longer possible? Seems they would be taking a step backward if they removed this as an option. Resource have capacity... projects do not.
    Thanks!
    Micah

    Thanks for the response Andrew...
2007 does in fact have the 14 cubes, just like 2013. I am using the Portfolio Analyzer cube in both instances.
I think you are referring to the new 'Reports' that come out of the box and/or the data connections that are now SQL Select statements embedded in the Data Connection. i.e. Project Server - Resource Capacity... I have experimented with these new data connections,
including modifying the Select statements to include some of our Enterprise Custom Fields. But I'll admit that my SQL isn't what if could be, and I do not know how to join the Project List properly. Honestly, I really don't want to pull in a DBA to do
my reporting... especially if the Cube should be doing the joins for me.
    Thanks

  • Which one is better ODS-INFOCUBE for reporting in BW

    Hello expert's
1.I want to know which one ODS or INFOCUBES are better (technically/functionally) for reporting  purpose in BW.if some one is having any comparisons on ODS/INFOCUBE then plz pass on to me.
2.Are Z tables reliable in case of data updation and fetching when we create ODS/INFOCUBE.
    3.HOW RELIABLE THE "Z"(*TABLES/REPORTS) are in SAP-BW/R/3-ABAP.

1.Cubes are optimized for reporting..due to star schema structure.Use cubes for reporting aggregated data to be accessed by large number of users.
ODS are for detailed level reporting.ODS structure is like flat DB table.
usually drilldown is setup from cube report to the ODS report.
2.Are u referring to custom ODS and cubes..then they have the Z tables internally..reliability depends on ur design. But always try to use BC content, else copy BC content and change/enhance it.else if no BC content found then create Z-content directly.
3.Again,depends on the design. But always using BC content is suggested.
    cheers,

  • Sharepoint 2013 Reporting Services & OLAP Cubes for Data Modeling.

I've been using PowerPivot & PowerView in Excel 2013 Pro for some time now so am now eager to get set up with Sharepoint 2013 Reporting Services.
Before set up Reporting Services  I have just one question to resolve.
What are the benefits/differences of using a normal flat table set up, compared to an OLAP cube?
Should I base my Data Model on an OLAP Cube or just Connect to tables in my SQL 2012 database?
I realize that OLAP Cubes aggregate data making it faster to return results, but am unclear if this is needed with Data Modeling for Sharepoint 2013.
    Many thanks,
    Mike

So yes, PV is an in-memory cube. When data is loaded from the data source, it's cached in memory, and stored (compressed) in the Excel file. (also, same concept for SSAS Tabular mode... loads from source, cached in mem, but also stored (compressed) in data
files, in the event that the server reboots, or something similar).
As far as performance, tabular uses memory, but has a shorter load process (no ETL, no cube processing)... OLAP/MDX uses less memory, by requiring ETL and cube processing... technically tabular uses column compression, so the memory consumption will be based
on the type of data (numeric data is GREAT, text not as much)... but the decision to use OLAP (MDX)/TAB (DAX) is just dependent on the type of load and your needs... both platforms CAN do realtime queries (ROLAP in multidimensional, or DirectQuery for tabular),
or can use their processed/in-memory cache (MOLAP in multidimensional, xVelocity for tabular) to process queries.
if you have a cube, there's no need to reinvent the wheel (especially since there's no way to convert/import the BIDS/SSDT project from MDX to DAX). If you have SSAS 2012 SP1 CU4 or later, you can connect PV (from Excel OR from within SP) directly to the
    MDX cube.
Generally, the benefit of PP is for the power users who can build models quickly and easily (without needing to talk to the BI dept)... SharePoint lets those people share the reports with a team... if it's worthy of including in an enterprise warehouse,
it gets handed off to the BI folks who vet the process and calculations... but by that time, the business has received value from the self-service (Excel) and team (SharePoint) analytics... and the BI team has less effort since the PP model includes data sources
and calculations - aside from verifying the sources and calculations, BI can just port the effort into the existing enterprise ETL / warehouse / cubes / reports... shorter dev cycle.
I'll be speaking on this very topic (done so several times already) this weekend in Chicago at SharePoint Saturday!

  • Oracle 10g olap cube connectivity issue using Crystal Reports 2008

    Hi
Kindly help me out with a solution. I have created a cube in oracle 10gR2 database using Oracle Analytic Workspace Manager. I am trying to connect to this cube using Crystal report Olap datasorces. But I am only getting 4 options to connect to Hyperion Essbase, HOLOS Cube, Microsoft OLEDB, Microsoft OLAP Analysis Services 8.0 and 9.0.  I am not getting any option for connection to Oracle OLAP. How do I do that or if it does not support kindly let me know.
    Thanks in advance

  • Oracle AW OLAP or Cognos PowerPlay for cube building

Starting a Pilot project for BI reporting. We have two options we are exploring and testing OLAP in Oracle 10G AW and Cognos PowerPlay. Our intent is to use Cognos ReportNet for our reporting tool.
I tend to lean toward building Dimensions/Cubes in the Oracle Analytical Workspace rather then Cognos PowerPlay.
I need to know the pros and cons of Cube design in Cognos vs Oracle AW from the experts out there, not enough experience under my belt.
Also if I head down the path of utilizing the Oracle AW, can I efficiently use Cognos ReportNet to access the AW? Is this via SQL or the Oracle OLAP API?
    Thanks All

Hi, can't comment on your first question.
Yes, you can use Cognos ReportNet with OLAP cubes. You can use any SQL emitting query tool to access the views that you create over OLAP 10g. note, these views are created dynamically in Oracle OLAP 11g which makes it very easy.
You/ tools write SQL against the cube views, and leverage the aggregated data, and calcs in the cube, as well as having the capabilities of Cognos ReportNet. There may be a few tricks you need to do to have Cognos ReportNet write efficient SQL.. maybe someone else out there has some more input?

  • How to use OLAP cubes in Crystal Reports R2?

    Dear All,
I hope someone can help me with the following issue: We are trying to link Crystal Reports XI-R2 with an OLAP cube but the login keeps on failing while the same setup/connection works with Excel.
The OLAP cubes are created through SSAS 2008 and require a windows account for authentication. Because it works via Excel (through pivot table --> external data) the cubes are accessible and the username & password are correctly as well.
Through the OLAP wizard in Crystal Reports the following message is displayed: "The connection could not be established. The logon attempt failed".
    Thank you in advance.

  • How can I creat OLAP cube by using Oracle 10g

i want to creat a complete Molap cube, but i find that i cannot do it in Oracle Database 10g,Analytic Workspace ...

By the way, the doc highlights Analytic Workspace Manager 10g for Oracle Database 10.1.0.4.0. The required RDBMS 10.1.0.4.0 patch set should be available any day now on MetaLink for Linux and Windows. Soon thereafter, the AWM 10g client will be posted as a stand-alone to OTN and MetaLink.

  • How the data is fetched from the cube for reporting

    hi all,
I need to understand the below scenario:(as to how the data is fetched from the cube for reporting)
I have a query, on a multiprovider connected to cubes say A and B. A is on BIA index, B is not. There are no aggregates created on both the cubes.
CASE 1:  I have taken RSRT stats with BIA on, in aggregation layer it says
Basic InfoProvider     *****Table type      ***** Viewed at          ***** Records, Selected     *****Records, Transported
    Cube A     *****             blank                 *****           0.624305         *****          8,087,502        *****             2,011
    Cube B     *****                     E   *****                      42.002653  *****                  1,669,126            *****                    6
    Cube B     *****                     F  *****                     98.696442    *****                  2,426,006       *****                    6
CASE 2:I have taken the RSRT stats, disabling the BIA index, in aggregation layer it says:
Basic InfoProvider     *****Table Type     *****Viewed at     *****Records, Selected     *****Records, Transported
    Cube B     *****E     *****46.620825     ****1,669,126****     6
    Cube B     *****F     ****106.148337****     2,426,030*****     6
    Cube A     *****E     *****61.939073     *****3,794,113     *****3,499
    Cube A     *****F     ****90.721171****     4,293,420     *****5,584
now my question is why is here a huge difference in the number of records transported for cube A when compared to case 1. The input criteria for both the cases are the same and the result output is matching. There is no change in the number of records selected for cube A in both cases. It is 8,087,502 in both cases.
Can someone pls clarify on this difference in records being selected.

    Hi Jay,
    Thanks for sharing your analysis.
The only reason I could think logically is BWA is having information in both E and F tables in one place and hence after selecting the records, it is able to aggregate and transport the reords to OLAP.
In the second case, since E and F tables are separate, aggregation might be happening at OLAP and hence you see more number of records.
Our Experts in BWA forum might be able to answer in a better way, if you post this question over there.
    Thanks,
    Krishnan

  • ORACLE 10g generate reports for audit trail

    HELP ORACLE 10 g
I am a beginner about the oracle 10g
anybody can guide me how to start with
generate reports for audit trail , top ten url
, no of hits in the portlets ......
    =(
    thank you ....

    In a nutshell:
1 - You will have to have the portal database schema as your data source.
2 - You will have to design a target database schema with the target data bjects (tables, dimensions and fact tables - cubes) where the data will be loaded for reporting purposes.
3 - Then you will have to model the loading process by defining mappings (mappings will translate into generated code for the load process) and process flows to run the mappings in the right order etc.
4 - You will deploy the sources, targets and processing entities to the target schema.
5 - You will run the deployed code periodically as needed and maintain the source, target and loading entities which might change with time.
One observetion - OWB does not produce reports. It creates and maintains the data infrastructure for a reporting/analysis system (a data warehouse, data mart or an operational data store). To produce reports (for example, the top-10 report mentioned by you), you will have to run a reporting tool on top of the data structures created and maintained by OWB.
    Regards:
    Igor

  • Reporting against an OLAP cube

I have unsuccessfully tried to connect to an OLAP cube (SQL Server 2005) in Crystal Reports XI.
I select OLAP from the Database Expert and Create a New Connection. I click Add to add the server. The server type selected is Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0. The Server Options = OLAP Server. I type in the server name and instance and test connection and it says it is successful. When I add my user credentials (with and without the domain name) and hit Test Connection, I get the following error:
"Failed to set properites (The following system error occurred: The requested operation requires delegation to be enabled on the machine. .)"
Delegation was enabled on the server.
I was reading in a CR book that I "may need to install client software specific to your particular OLAP system, such as a cube-viewing application, on your PC." I am not sure what that is. I have SQL Server 2005 client tools installed.
Has anyone been successfull in reporting against a OLAP cube?
