Hi. Yesterday my harddrive crashed so now i have a new one. I just bought 2 apps from app store in iTunes and now i cant sync them to my phone without erasing all my other apps on the phone (different library and i cant access the library because my old harddrive is dead). How do i get the apps i bought to my new library so i can sync all the apps to my phone?
Thank you

On the library on my new harddrive i have 2 new apps and i want to sync them to my phone. The problem is that in order to sync them i need to replace all the other apps because they are from another library.
What i need is to get the old apps to my new library so i can sync them with my new apps over to my phone. I have no access to my old library. Please help!

The point is that there are four i product users for one computer in my house, and not everyone wants the same music on their device.  Like I said before, the ipod is not syncing to the new library even though I plug it in when the new itunes library is pulled up.  It keeps syncing to the old library...

    - If the Gmail accounts are IMAP one then if the library is erased and then you use the account old email will be redownload
    - Easing the library on the MacBook does not effect what is on the iMac. On the other hand if you deleted the messages in the Mail app on the MacBook then they will deleted from all devices.

  • Re: iPhoto deleting photos from old library and new library

Hello.  I really hope someone can help me.  I'm about to tear my hair out.  I recently copied my iPhoto library to an external hard drive because I'm seriously out of space on my 24"iMac (2008).  I am a photographer and have a mess of an iPhoto library to clean up.  It was a VERY large volume, and it ran overnight.  It appears that everything transferred fine.  I did the transfer exactly as instructed by many forums: Home > Pictures > iPhoto Library, drag and drop to WD My Book 1 TB EHD formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  Then I opened iPhoto via the icon in the dock while holding down the Option/Alt key and chose the new location on the ext drive to point iPhoto to the new library.  My problem is this:   I went into the old library, which I renamed iPhoto Library - Old (after the fact, which I hope didn't cause the problem), and deleted an event that I didn't care about.  To my surprise, it deleted the event in BOTH libraries.  I have tried repeatedly to point iPhoto to the right library, both using the dock and going through applications.  It is as though the 2 libraries are somehow inter-connected, and not separate.  At times, I will open the old library through finder, but I can see it highlight the icon for the EHD and it opens that.  I am at my wits end, as at any given point in time I don't know which library it has brought up.  I am trialling Aperture, and am trying to move photos over to Aperture from iPhoto, but really need to free up space on my internal drive to be able to work with it. I'd eventually like to move the masters to the EHD, etc., but I'm still in the learning curve with all that (I'll be hitting that forum soon, I'm sure).  My highest priority right now is to figure out how to separate the 2 iPhoto duplicate libraries so I can delete the photos from the desktop without affecting the photos on the External Hard Drive.  I've tried everything I can think of and everything I found while scouring these forums.  Here is the information I think you would need:
                                                             - 24" iMac Intel, Snow Leopard (10.6.8), iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.5)
                                                             - 2 TB WD External hard drive running Time Machine, (so everything from the desktop is backed up).
                                                             - 1TB WD My Book that is formatted as I mentioned above, which I copied the iPhoto Library to.
                                                             - 1 soon-to-be-bald photographer.
Thanks very much in advance for any help anyone can give me.  I really like my hair, and don't wish to lose it!
    Gail
PS - Just a little background.  I have been working on this whole space issue for more than a week now.  This is the 3rd new external hard drive I've had this week due to "issues."  Had a problem with all 3 but finally figured this one out, and it's now working fine.  I am so far behind in some photo editing work because of the hard drive space issues, and I cannot seem to resolve them no matter how hard I try.  Hence the frustration.  Thanks again.

THANK YOU LARRY!!  I did not realize that once you switch libraries, it kept you in that library until you switch back using the option key. I thought that the iPhoto icon would take me to the new library, and going through finder to the old library name would take me to the old one.  I was actually in the new library the whole time, and all of the images I deleted were deleted from there.  I just switched back to the old library and all of the photos were still there.  I also tried deleting from the old library, which is what I wanted to do, and then switching to the new library and it did not affect the photos there at all.  So, this was indeed the answer.
Whew, what a relief. You're a life saver.  I might actually be able to get some work done now.
    Thanks again so much.

I assume you are talking about iTunes on your computer, if so, you will have to remove all Apple programs associated with iTunes:
iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Make sure everything that is by Apple is removed including Safari. You can sort by "Publisher", when you uninstall programs. Make sure you have at least one other web browser (like Firefox or Internet Explorer) before removing Safari. That way you can go back to the Apple web site and redownload iTunes later.
Reboot the computer then reinstall iTunes. Everything should work normally.

  • Replacement ipod old library and playlist

So i just got my replacement ipod after my last one's harddrive went dead...so I did everything to to get it synched to my old library and playlist...however when I do this itunes is making a second set of playlists for this ipod...how to I just get it to synch with the old playlists (without creating the second set of playlists). I hope you understand what I'm saying...it's like when you attach someone else's ipod to your library and it gives you the message about that ipod being associated with another library if you would like to associate it with this current library and if you select yes it creates a second set of playlists...

  • Somehow my itunes started a new library and I lost my old library. Itunes will not allow me to sync new music to my ipod without deleting stored music from ipod. How can I start using this new library and sync the new music without losing existing music.

Somehow my Itunes started a new music library and I lost the old library.  Itunes will not allow me to sync new music from my computer to my Ipod because it is now in a different library. Itunes wants to delete all my Ipod music before sync any new music. How do I work around this. I think this happened during Itunes Upates.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • I downloaded hundreds of CDs to iTunes on my old computer and synced them to both my iPad and classic ipod.  We purchased a MacBook air and I noticed the previously downloaded CDs were not in my library.  How can I find them?

I Downloaded hundreds of CDs to iTunes on a previous laptop and synced them with my iPad and classic ipod.  We recently purchased a MacBook Air, and I started downloading more CDs to iTunes.  When I went to sync my iPod, it removed all my old music and only included the music that I had just downloaded.  When I went to my iTunes library, the old music was missing.  The old music is still showing up on my iPad.  How do I get it back into the library, or do I have to download everything again onto the MacBook air?

You mean on the old computer, the music is missing?
Or on the new computer the old music that you transferred from old computer, is now missing?
Did you transfer the iTunes library from the old computer to the new computer?

  • How do I unsync my iPhone from my old computer and sync it to my new one?

I am unable to access my iPhone on my new computer without erasing and syncing all my data on my iPhone. I no longer have my old computer so unsyncing from that computer or transferring the data from it is out of the question. I have important settings, contacts, pictures, etc. that I don't want to lose from erasing my iPhone. However, I want to be able to actually put stuff on my phone. I attempted to backup my iPhone to my new computer and it worked. Yet, it seemed like it only backed up the apps on my iPhone. Is there a way to keep everything the way it is now on my iPhone (including app layout, settings, and such) and still sync to my new computer?

The warning message provided is all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased, not all settings and data. The same applies when selecting to transfer any photos from the new computer. If you had a computer backup for your old computer that included your iTunes library and all photos on your iPhone that were transferred from your computer that could be transferred to your new computer, this wouldn't be a problem.
iTunes includes an option to transfer all iTunes content on your iPhone that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes Store. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. Or with your iPhone connected, right click on your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Transfer Purchases.
There are some 3rd party utilties that provide for transferring photos from an iPhone that were transferred to the iPhone from a computer, but the original resolution of these photos will be lost. When transferring photos from a computer, the photos are optimized for viewing on the iPhone. The same utilities provide for transferring music from an iPhone that was not purchased from the iTunes Store.
Contacts, settings, and photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are not affected by this.

  • Erasing library and syncing backup

    Happy Halloween everyone!
Okay, I have been putting this off for too long and am tired of the mess.
Itunes is on my C drive along with my library. I have a backup of my music on another hard drive... so what I was going to do: Erase all the music files manually from /..mymusic/itunes/itunesmusic, verify all music is removed in iTunes, and then resync the library with the backup files on the second hard drive.
I wanted find out if this is the correct way to go about it or if there is an easier solution. I don't care about saving playlists, I only care about freeing up space for windows on my main drive.

  • How do I unsync from an old computer and sync to a new one without losing data or actually syncing.

I have an iPhone 4S. I have always had it "synced" to my family Mac on my own user account, but I kept the "manage music manually" box checked, so it was never actually synced. I recently got my father's old macbook pro. I did not wipe it, but changed all the account information to my own. I plugged my phone into the computer and it would not let me click and drag songs into it. After a little bit of digging I found some settings that would allow me to fix this. However, when I tried applying these a message that said something like this appeared, " Do you want to sync with this library? Your device is previously synced to another library. Syncing with this library will delete all your data. Do you want to continue?" This isn't the exact wording but pretty close. So I tried troubleshooting that for about 3 hours. Eventually, I tried deleting my user account from my family mac entirely through the Admin account. I then tried plugging my phone in to my macbook, and the same thing happened. I have tried everything I have come across except actually backing up wiping and restoring my iPhone. I would prefer not to do this unless there is some way to get every piece of data on my macbook from my phone, as it has music from various libraries and I am not positive it will load everything. Is there any way to fix this?

I had the same problem. I solved by (I use Windows7, should be same for OSX):
    1. copying the library from the older computer to the new computer, at the usual itunes media location.
    2. on new computer's itunes preference (advance), uncheck the box "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library"
    3. open up this folder of media copied over from old computer, just drag over to itunes library, cursor will turn into plus sign.
    4. since you unchecked the box for "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library", you are in effect only growring the new computer's itunes library's database. Your media files are already under the folder on the new computer.
Now when you connect iphone to this new computer and tells you it wants to erase your iphone's library in order to sync with this one, go ahead, click yes. Why is this ok now? Because you've copied all your files over to the new computer. So when you sync again, your existing files are there on the new computer.
You should export play lists on the older computer to be imported on the new computer though.

  • How do i unsync my iphone from itunes library and sync it to a different one without wiping my phone

I bought an iphone 5c and synced it to a windows 7 thinkpad laptop. I backed it up on this device and transferred music off there to my iphone. I recently had an acer aspire e15 laptop and downloaded itunes so i could now do everything i did on my old laptop on to this one, but it isn't letting me unless i sync my phone and wipe its memory. Although i can restore my phone it doesn't restore the music. So is there a way to unsync from one itunes library to another without wiping my data, or is there a way to transfer the music off my phone to my new itunes library so when i restore my phone its easy to restore the music i had on it previously.

  • I have switched computers - old one stolen - and lost access to my 800 or so song library. I started a new library. Is there any way I can retrieve my old library and add it to the new one?

I am not very tech oriented - I love my Ipod - had a library of 800- 900 songs - my computer was stolen, I have since bought a new one - started a new library because I could not figure out how to access my old library. Is there any way I can somehow find that original library and add it to my new library??

If these are photos that were synced to your phone, the only way to extract them from your phone is third-party software, like this:
