Old Zire to Centro?

I have an old Zire and have become dependent on the Palm Desktop. If I get a Centro can I hotsync my info from the Palm Desktop onto it? Or is it too old? Thanks for any help.
Post relates to: Zire

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
Migrating from your old Zire to a new Centro should pose no problems at all.  The new Palm Desktop needs to be installed over the old one, and the new installation will recognize all of the old data and bring it right over...assuming you use the same Hotsync ID, that is.
If you want to use both devices, you can do that, too.  Just give the Centro a distinct Hotsync ID when you connect it for the first time.
Here is the Setup Guide for the Centro (AT&T's version), which has information about how to migrate from an older device, etc.
Most Centros come with Palm Desktop 6.2 which is Vista-compatible but it is also Palm's recommended version for XP desktops.  But it looks a little different than the older Palm Desktops and some users gripe about some things such as the lack of color categories on PD 6.2.  Personally, I think it's fine and I never used color categories anyway.

  • How do I transfer information from my old Zire to my new Z22?

    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Hello and welcome to the Palm forums.
If you have sync'd your old zire to your computer already, you can just sync your new z22 to your existing user name.
When you sync'ing, the computer will prompt you, "there is no user name associated with this account..." select your old user name and then all the info will come onto your palm.

  • Hot synch old Zire 72 with new Treo Pro

Can anyone tell me how to do this?
Post relates to: Treo Pro T850 (Sprint)

So it's quite simple, but does require a little work.
First thing you need to do is get your data out of Palm desktop and into Microsoft Outlook.
There are two ways to do this
1.) sync your Zire 72 to Outlook
2.) Use a program called pocket copy from www.chapura.com and do a one time transfer of everything automatically for you
Once the data is in Outlook just sync your Pro to the same Outlook profile.

I'm sorry, I thought you had a plain Zire, not the Zire 72. What looks like version ".5.x.x" is just the word version abbreviated "v.".

  • Just a comment concerning Centro (Verizon) Zire 72 Office 2010 beta

Well I finally got way too tired of the problems with my Centro (Verizon): crashing, intermittent sync problems with Outlook 2003. I have always loved the Palm operating system until the Centro (Verizon) version (never figured out whether this was a "Access" or "Verizon" problem). After a year and a half of messing around and losing data, I ditched the Centro and fired up my old Zire 72s. I uninstalled desktop by Access 6.2.2, (did a registry clean), installed Palm desktop 4.1e and Outlook 2007 updater and believe it or not it syncs flawlessly with Outlook 2010 beta.  This worked for me; I can't say whether it will work for all the other situations that are out there. I'm am happy now; a stable machine with a large screen. (although I do not particularly like carrying around a cell phone and a PDA). I might try Palm Web OS later (if I like the screen).

Palm OS is a dying software it's good to see that you have had success with it working with Outlook 2010, without knowing anything firm or forseeing the future I would be skeptical to even see it get supported for Palm OS.

  • Zire 31 multiple resets; best replacement choice?

My 3-year-old Zire 31 has just required a reset in the back (is this a soft reset or a hard reset?) 5 times in the last 4 days (each time done successfully).  I suspect this means it's on its last legs, and I've hot-synced on my computer and backed up on my external hard drive.  Any other suggestions than to get a new PDA?  And, if so, any suggestions on the best replacement with current choices:  I want a PDA that does just about all the same things, with a bit more memory (since I need a memory card and still don't have quite enough memeory) but without a lot more "bells and whistles".
    Post relates to: Zire 31

Thank you for using the Palm Help forums
A soft reset just refreshes the cache memory and reboots the operating system, a hard reset cleans the memory and reloads the operating system back to factory settings. You might want to do hard reset on your device - it could be just a bad program. When you re-sync your device back make sure you go to start_My Computer_C: (local drive)_ and program files_ and look for your username. Inside your username profile look for a backup folder and rename it to something else so it does not sync back to your device. If the issue still persists than here are some recommendations.
We certainly would like for you to stay with palm but you can choose another brand PDA. But if you stay with Palm all you need to do is possibly upgrade your current palm desktop to (4.1.4e-Windows XP) or (6.2-Vista) and just sync all your stuff back to a palm handheld.
The Zire Z22 is a simple little device with calendar, contacts, tasks, note and some games, no email, no wifi, no extra "bells and whistles", though it lacks the memory(25mb) and no SD card feature.
The E2 and TX comes with more application, the TX has wifi so basically more "bells and whistles" and a SD slot.

  • Palm Zire Hotsync problems

Old Zire on a Vista O/S computer.  While upgrading the old Palm software, I lost all data on the desktop.  When Hotsynching my handheld to the new (ACCESS) software, all failed.  So I uninstalled the new (ACCESS) software and reinstalled the old Zire software from the CD I have.  It took quite a while and then sent me error messages that data, contacts, etc. had not transferred.  Checking the desktop afterwards confirmed it.  Nothing there.  No help from Palm.  Anyone have an idea how to resolve this?

  • Migrating from Zire 31 to LG Ally?

I would like to transfer my calendar and address book data from my old Zire 31 to my new LG Ally phone (Android OS.)  Is this possible?  The folks at the Verizon store couldn't do it (although they were able to transfer my contacts from my old Motorola phone.)
    Post relates to: Zire 31

Hello cynfulcynner and welcome to the Palm forums.
You will need to sync your Zire 31 with Palm Desktop on your computer.  Then, export your calendar and address book data into a .csv comma separated values file.
If you have not already done so, create a free Google GMail account and import your address book data.  Then, switch over to your Google Calendar (Google's apps all use the same Gmail login) and import your calendar data.
Lastly, on your Android phone, sign into your Google GMail account and your data will be synchronized with your phone.

  • Zire 71 onto Laptop with Vista

Hi there... I have a very old Zire 71.  All of the programs for it are on my desktop which has Windows XP.  I no longer can locate any of my diskettes that go with the device.  I want to load it onto my laptop which has Vista but I am having no luck.  I have to confess that I don't even know what kind of "connection" I have... I have a charger that is plugged into my laptop via USB, so maybe that answers that question?
Either way, when I try to sync it it says the driver is not loaded or it is unplugged.... and I can not seem to find a way to download a driver for this...
    Can anybody help me?
If it can not be done... is there any way to save my information in some kind of other format - excel maybe - so that I don't lose all the things I've saved over the years on my device...  I'm trying to get rid of my desktop but it's the only way I have right now to keep the info stored on my Zire.... I'm really desperate to find a way to somehow save this information...
Any help would be so greatly appreciated - you have no idea!
    Thank you in advance...
    Post relates to: Zire 71

Please excuse me, but I have another question.
I did the above things you directed, plus I downloaded the Outlook 2007 update.  When I did the HotSync from the cradle I got a message that the synch had been completed, but no info seems to have been exchanged between Outlook 2007 and my Palm Zire 71; in addition, there is no information in the Desktop at all.
NOTE: during installation, I got a message asking me for a Profile name and then telling me I had to enter Profile Information from the Control Panel>Mail>Show Profiles area.  That area has "Backup to Default" highlighted, with "Default" shown as another option.  Below that, on the same page, it says "When starting Microsoft Office, use this profile:"    The option "Prompt for a profile to be used" is not selected, but "Always use this profile" is selected.  What does this mean?  Do I need to change something?

  • Zire 21 synchronization

My old Zire expired and I picked up a refurbished Zire 21. It is fully charged but when I click on the hotsync manager...it opens a window that asks me to select a user. I create a new user name and tell it okay. But then it cancels the sync...
any suggestions on how to get this to sync?

I just purchased a new TX today and went though the charge time required (I did not hook it up to the PC yet since I am also using an old Zire).  When I power up the unit, it takes me to the touchscreen calibration steps - over and over and over again.  It will not leave this process.  It recognizes the stylus imput but it won't finish.
I have tried a soft and hard restart but still the same issue.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is this a constant problem with the TX? Like I said before, I am using an old... zire M150 and have never had a screen problem.
It is doubtful that it is a "constant" problem with the TX, particularly since yours was bad out of the box.  You just got a faulty one.
There do seem to be a lot of threads about digitizer problems with the TX, though.  Impossible to say how prevalent the issue is, though both of my TXes had troubled digitizers...repaired/replaced several times until I just got fed up and installed replacement glass digitizers myself at my own expense even while they were still under warranty.
The nature of forums like these is that you will see a disproportionate number of posts from people with a problem, rather than from people whose devices are working fine.

The jack is "loose"?  Has it been yanked on excessively and broken the inner connection to the motherboard?
Repairs can be found at usedpdaparts.com and pdaparts.com for reasonable prices.

  • Is it really possible to upgrade from a Treo 650 to a Treo 750?

I am not a very happy customer at the moment, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I upgraded from my old Palm Tungsten to a Zire, then to a Cingular Treo 650, combining three devices into one. I have since discovered that the Treo 650 seems to have a faulty transmission mode, as I can rarely be clearly understood by whomever I call. Am on the second (or third, I have lost track) and continue to have the same problem. I get five bars of reception but can't be understood on the other end. A bit of a problem when one is trying to call 911. Am constantly told I am "breaking up". The repair shop says it "Can't duplicate the problem". OK, then I do not want to give up all the info I have stored in the fool thing, and the 750 seems to have a different system, so I thought I would try that. All the stuff I could find seemed to indicate it wouldn't be a problem to upgrade. When the 750 arrived, I tried to install the software from the CD on my Windows XP computer. No dice. Setup encounters an error and closes. Can't even look at the files, because setup tries to run any time I access the CD. From any drive.  Gave it to my girlfiend to check on her computer, and the CD seemed to run fine. Other CDs work just fine on my computer. Must be some kind of conflict, but what? Tried calling the AT&T number that suggested they could help with setup, and was first connected to the business center, they routed me to the laptop center, who routed me to the network center, who said they would have to bring in the Palm customer service and connected me to a Mac guy that dumped me back to a menu that took me to someone for whom English is a second language with whom I was trying to communicate over a very poor satellite connection. They made no sense anyway. telling me first that I couldn't have two desktops running (wrong, my girlfriend has my old Zire and the CD worked fine) and then insisting that the serial number on my device had to start with a P, when it clearly does not have any alpha characters in it. Gave up on that route of assistance. Managed to get the new ActiveSync installed from my girlfriends computer over the network. Great. Now let's get my 650 synced with Outlook (which I have not used at home) and see if we can move on. Nope. First I have to update Outlook 2000 from the old Win98 to my current XP. Find the old CD, and square that away. OK, now sync to Outlook. Nope. The sync program gives an error, saying it will only sync with Outlook 98, 2000, and XP(2002). Good grief. I have Outlook 2000, and the software apparently does not recognize it. If the Palm doesn't work, there is no reason for me to keep this phone, and I am very close to returning it and abandoning the Palm entirely when I upgrade to something that works, although I dread re-entering all that information.

Thanks for the feedback. Today I installed an Enterprise version of Office 2007 I purchased a while back, but had not yet installed. Microsoft presented a few challenges, but they were quickly resolved. I then downloaded the appropriate conduit from Palm, and synced the 650 with the handheld overwriting the computer. Then used Active Destop to sync the 750. Satisfied I had moved as much info as possible, I called AT&T and had them move the phone number to the new Treo.
Bonus! When the guy at AT&T called me on the new phone to verify it, he said it sounded better than my landline.
Sorry for the streaming paragraph. When it is late I tend to write like I think.

  • Is it possible to have two versions of HotSync in the same PC?

I had an old and reliable Zire 31 and I got from a friend a couple of months back a TX. I was synching the TX in my office because I had my old one synching at home. Now my wife wants to use the old Zire and I'll like to synch my home stuff too. I know both versions of the HotSync sofwtare are different (6.2 for the TX and 4.1 for the Zire). Is there a way I can keep both in my PC at home without having to uninstall one of them. I think (haven't try) that installing 6.2 wipes out 4.2
    Post relates to: Palm TX

It's not advisable (for your own convenience) but if you dont share the same login account on the PC, your installations on each PC account should remain hermetic from each other. Otherwise I suggest you go to PD 6.2 for both.

  • What's lost when I change names, or hard reset?

    My first question here:
I've used a Zire 21 for many years, and have some commercial software on it that required activation codes that were e-mailed upon payment.  One is Piloc, a foreign language localization program, the other is SuperMemo, a flash card program for the same. I use them every day.
Now I've bought a Treo 680.  That software isn't compatible with the Treo, so I'd like to keep the Zire going.  But standard installation of the Treo software has the Treo using the old Zire user name.  I'm sure I can't synch my Zire using that same name.
Reading manuals & online info, it looks like I can give my Zire a new user name by a hard reset (scary!), or by a hidden rename procedure involving the shortcut graffiti stroke, a dot, etc.  If I understand it correctly, this will allow me to reinstall software and data (like flash card progress data).
But are my software activation codes likely to work?  Supermemo in particular claimed it calculated my activation code using my user name.  That sounds like it would prevent a reinstallation ... unless the software "knows" that it's been paid for, and allows me to reinstall even if the user name is different.
Does anyone know for sure how this will work?  Will I be able to reinstall?  Would a synchronization then re-load all my progress data on the flash cards?  Should I try a rename (instead of a hard reset) in the hopes that less would be lost?
If there's a high likelihood of losing everything, I'd probably just keep charging the Zire and hope it never crashes!
    - Frank Krygowski
Post relates to: Treo 680 (AT&T)

I did a hard reset of the Zire, then went through the digitizer calibration and time zone setting, then synched.
I get a window popping up that says:
"This Palm Powered [TM] handheld does not have a user account associated with it.  Please creaste or select an existing user account to synch with handheld.  What do you want to do?
[default radio button]  Create a new user account named [blank box]
[alternate radio button]  Select an existing user account  [Choices in this box are Frank Krygowski Treo, and my wife's dead Zire named Peg Krygowski]
I assumed I was supposed to use Frank Krygowski Treo username.  The hotsynch proceeded, and a very long Log file was generated.  But the Zire now has no calendar data (the two handhelds previously had nearly equal calendars), no "to do" lists (which were identical and extensive), no ToDo lists (which were extensive) and so on.  Also, the foreign language software (Piloc and a Polish-English dictionary) are either missing or not functioning.
What gives?  If the backup files are an image of this Zire, I'm afraid I'm in trouble.
I _really_ don't want to lose the volumes of data (to-do lists, calendar, etc etc) that are now only on the Treo.  Is there a chance I should change the Treo's username once more, then re-synch?  Or did I goof in choosing the Treo's username?  Should I redo the hard reset and re-synch the Zire with the original username, "Frank Krygowsk"
