Older express airport... how to tell if n supported

My macs connect to this express as b or g, not seeing N.  How can I tell if it is n capable or enabled?

"n" wireless is enabled by default on the A1264 Express.
If you want to check the settings on the Express.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Express, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the topo of the next window
Click Wireless Options
The Radio Mode should be set to Automatic, which enables "b", "g" and "n" wireless

  • HT4587 How to set up an older version Airport Express on the 6.2 Utility

    I have a older version of Aiport Express  (M9470LL/A model A1084) and I get the following message when I try to set it up with the Airport Utility Version 6.2 on my iMac with Snow Leopard 10.8.2. -
    "This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station. Go to AirPort Service and Support for more information."
    Any advice on how to set it up ?

    Mountain Lion no longer supports the older A1084 AirPort Express that you have.
    If you want to try a workaround.....not supported by Apple.....see this article to find out how to add another version of AirPort Utility that will work with Mountain Lion and hopefully allow you to configure the AirPort Express that you have.

  • Older Airport Express, Airport Utility

    I have an older (about 2005-2006 vintage) Airport Express that is used as a satellite base station (network extender?). This old Express works flawlessly to extend a household / home office network and to allow for a workgroup printer to be connected in the office.
    The "mothership" is currently an aging (2004 vintage) round white Airport Extreme, which has been having problems. We just bought a refurbished late-model Airport Express from Apple direct to replace the old Extreme as the "mothership". (The current "mothership" is connected via Ethernet cable to a DSL modem, so it is our network hub and our gateway to the internet.)
    I'm thinking seriously about reconstituting the LAN situation; shut everything down, disconnect the old Extreme, and plug-in the new Express and build a new LAN with new network ID, password, etc. to save time and headache. No decision has been made yet. Nothing has been done.  Problem: the "old" Airport Express is vital to what we do. We need to incorporate the "old" Express into the "new" network.
    I tried launching the Airport Admin Utility on one of our newer (2012/2013) computers today, and the Utility cannot access either the "old" Extreme or the "old" Express. The Utility says these devices are not supported by this version of the Utility software. If I do go ahead and rebuild the LAN with a new "mothership" ("new" Express), network ID and password, how do I program the "old" Express to join the "new" LAN?

    Regarding your idea.....
    You do not mention whether you want the Expresses to connect to the D-Link modem/router using wireless, but I assume that you do.
    The new and old AirPort Express devices might be able to be configured to wirelessly "join" the wireless network provided by the D-Link modem router, so the printers could connect to the Expresses as they do now.
    The only way to know whether this will really work or not would to try it by resetting both Expresses back to default settings and setting them up again.
    I think you may be forgetting that you will still have a problem trying to configure the older Express though, since you will need a different version of AirPort Utility to do so for that device. Do you have a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC to configure the older Express?
    Neither Express will be able to "extend" the wireless signal provided by the D-Link modem/router, since Apple's "extend" feature is proprietary.........it only works among Apple devices. So, the Expresses will not provide any extended wireless signal coverage for the D-Link modem/router network.
    IF....you want to use the new Express as it is already set up now.....AND....you want a second Express to wirelessly extend the signal from the first Express......AND....you want to be able to configure and administer each AirPort Express using the 10.9.5 operating system that you have......there is a solution:
    Replace the old AirPort Express with another new AirPort Express.

  • Updating Firmware on an older version Airport Express

    Does anyone have an answer to updating the firmware of an older  version Airport Express. The new Airport utility 6.3.2 will not allow me to make changes to my Airport Express from 6 years back.

    Apple has not updated the firmware on the older AirPort Express models in over 6 years, so chances are you already have the most recent firmware installed on your Express.
    Apple has dropped support of the older AirPort Express models in AirPort Utility 6.x versions, so you will need to use a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC if you need to administer the older Express that you have.

  • Setup older Express in Lion - Resolved

    So I just tried to add my dad's older Express to my network. In attempting to set it up using my MBP with Lion, Airport Utility (6.1) tells me that I need to use V 5.6. And of course when I tried to install 5.6 I get the nice message that it can't be installed on my computer. What can I do?
    Update: I found the 5.6 Utility for Lion.

    More than likely, you tried to install AirPort Utility 5.6.1.....which is only for Snow Leopard and Leopard machines.
    Make sure that you you are downloading the correct AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

    I am having trouble with Comcast's XFINITY and they told me to update and maximize my browser. I don't seem to be able to do that. I just downloaded Firefox 5.0, but my version still says 4.1.

  • How to tell EAX is working

    is there anyway besides guessing to tell that EAX is working? I am using Windows 7, Vista, and XP, and I am curious if anyone knows if there is a log file generated when EAX is working or not. I understand full well how to use Alchemy but I am not sure about older games. Any thoughts? If I configure Alchemy correctly, then I do not know how to tell if I am successful 00% of the time. The game may sound good, but am I getting the legacy effects or did the developers just do a good sound capture?
    Thanks for the thoughts,

    from what i know games can use EAX through openal. also openal can be used by some higher-level libraries like fmod. a good example which was already mentioned here is bioshock which used fmod, openal and eax. a game could also be coded in a way that it uses EAX hardware processing but it doesn't have to be explicitly selectable in the options.
    i think we can blame both game developers and creative for not enough info on the subject.
    when a game comes out and uses the next new shiny dx we all know that long before release.
    there is much less information about how sound is produced by a game besides "it supports 5./7."
    i think someone from creative should post an extensi've clarification on the subject.

    There is an error.. probably trivial.. firmware update, default password..
    Open the airport utility and find out what the error is.
    Simply click the TC and see status in the summary page.. it will list all the errors and what you should do.. fix or ignore them. ie this TC has an error.. default password.. I chose to ignore.. when I "fix" the problem the LED goes green.

  • How to tell AE CS6 to use bundled Mocha rather than Pro?

    I recently upgraded my bundled Mocha from AE CS6 to Mocha Pro 4, but for some unknown reason, it won't let me export shape data in Mocha.  There seems to be no data at all, as even trying to paste in Notepad results in nothing.  Tracking data, however, works fine (both in AE and Notepad).
    Since I cannot figure out any solution in Mocha, the only thing I can do is use bundled Mocha rather than Pro... but I do not know how to tell AE to use bundled Mocha rather than Pro when I click 'Track In Mocha' (...a setting which was changed when Pro was installed).
    Does anyone know where/how I can switch it to Mocha bundled when you click on Track In Mocha?  (or, does anyone have any idea why Pro would not export shape data, whereas the same project in bundled Mocha did?)
    If anyone has any answers or theories, please let me know ASAP, as I have a project I'm trying to complete, and (as luck always has it) the weekend is now upon us, and support is closed over the weekend.

    I tried connecting MBP and TC via Ethernet - after verifying the settings that you suggested - and it does not work: if I turn Airport off, Time Machine says it can't find the TC
    Any other sugestions?
    Ok, then ethernet is not getting an ip address from the TC and is plugged in wrongly..
    You still didn't give me any idea of what actual model the linksys is.. and why is it in the network.. Is it a modem router?? If you have cable internet just throw it away and use the TC.
    If you have the linksys as modem, then bridge it.. turn off wireless and run pppoe client on the TC.
    If the ISP does not allow pppoe client mode then simply use the TC in bridge. Turn off all wireless in the linksys and just use the TC.
    Still need info on how everything is setup to analyse the problem.

  • Using older HP 4050 - How to Set Up

    I am buying a new Mac (first time). I have a reliable HP 4050 laserjet, the kind that has the old centronix printer port. It would be a shame to send it to the landfill. I would like to set it up to be a wireless printer from an Airport Exress. I have a feeling I will need a separate print server to do so. Any thoughts on how to get this set-up (if it is even possible) would be appreciated.

    Thatks for the reply. Looks like this is doable. A lot of the discussions were pretty technical. What I took from my review of those posts it is that the Airport Express acts as a print server and supports an HP 4050 printer.
    If that is the case, then is the only thing I need to do is get a USB to centronix cable to go between the printer and Airport Express? That sounds way too simple.
    Thanks!

  • Older express joining new extream/express network

    Hello,
    I just upgraded to a new airport extreme (MC340LL/A) & 3 new express's (MB321LL/A). Currently I have the extreme creating the network and the express's extending it.
    In a location I do not want to "waste" placing a new express (because its basically at the end house), I have a Slingbox (non-wireless). I have a few older airport express's (M9470LL/A). I would like to (or would it be possible) to use one of these older express's to simply join the network (not extend it) and host the slingbox. If I place it in this location I believe it would join the network via Slingbox -> old.express -> new.express -> new.extreme.
    If I am able to set this up in this way will it decrease my internet speed all over my house? Currently all my computers connected to the network are N compatible, and I know the the older express is not.
    I also have an old airport extreme (M9397LL/A) available.
    Side note: I tried separating the networks (2.4 GHz & 5 GHz) and only extending the 5 GHz network with the new express's but the signal was not strong enough to boost the signal. (I would have to get 2-3 more express to cover my house I think).
    Thanks,
    Zoltain

    Sorry, but no. The older 802.11b/g AirPort Express Base Station (AX) would have to be configured as either a remote or relay base station in a static WDS in order for its Ethernet port to be active for the Slingbox. Unlike the newer 802.11n Express, the older model does not offer an Ethernet bridge mode (aka ProxySTA).

  • How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed

    Hello, we are trying to accomplish the same thing that is mentioned in this post from Metalink. I've searched for a solution and hope someone here can help. Instead of restating the issue I think David Wilson does a good job of explaining what is needed. Can anyone please suggest a possible solution?

    How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed
    Hi,
    We run an oracle 10g forms application through 9iAS over an intranet. All users are running windows 2000 professional.
    We run separate frame = true but I would like to switch to separate frame = false
    With separate frame = true if the user clicks the outer windows "X" close button (forms mdi window) the user is prompted to save changes before the application ends.
    BUT
    when using separate frame = false
    If the user clicks the upper window "X" button (no longer form mdi window but regular browser window) the window and application is abruptly closed.
    I'm interested in using a onbeforeunload function to confirm if the user wants to close the window. This would be placed in the basejini.htm file. This could always ask if the user wants to exit or not. If they click OK then the window closes but if they click "Cancel" you are returned to the forms application exactly where you left. something like event.returnvalue="do you really want to exit?";
    However if the user exited using the normal exit form method then the applet is already closed before the onbeforeunoad event fires and there is nothing to go back to and I want the window to close automatically. This is accomplished using close.html file in post forms trigger.
    So what I want and what I think many may also want is the check if the embedded applet is still running and if so prompt the user to return to the application or continue to close. Of course If the applet is no longer running then just close because there is no reason confirm closing anymore.
    Does anyone have a html/JavaScript solution that can be placed in the jinitiator.htm file? or similar?
    Thank you

    I don't know if this is exactly what you are after but you can add the following to the top of your basejini.htm file and it should prompt the user before exiting the IE window.
    <BODY %HTMLbodyAttrs%>
    %HTMLbeforeForm%
    <SCRIPT>
    <!--
    window.onbeforeunload = unloadApplet;
    function unloadApplet(){
    message = "Warning! Please exit the Java Applet prior to
    exiting the browser"
    return message;

    Subject: Re : How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed
    Thank you for your reply and yes you did not understand my question fully.
    Sorry if this is a long reply
    I am able to close the browser window using information in notes 115905.1 and 201481.1, this is not the issue. We implemented this several years ago. It is workable for both separate frame = true or false.
    It is most important to not allow the user to end their forms application by closing the windows browser, they must close using normal form exit commands.
    What I want is to have separate frame = false, the big drawback to this option is the user can exit the application and bypass all forms code by pressing the windows "X" close button. This is why we need the code as just provided by Andrew Lenton above in this thread.
    BUT Andrew's code will always prompt the user before closing the window and I do not want that. I want the user to be prompted only under scenario 2 listed below.
    Here's the 2 case scenario for exiting the application.
    1. If the user closes properly and uses exit form which fires all normal form triggers including post_form with it's call to close.html file.
    All uncommitted changes are saved or rollback and the users session is ended normally both on the database and in the application server.
    All browser windows will close, great all is good. And without Andrew's code the window will close but with Andrew's code the user will be prompted to close or not, if they select Cancel the window will remain but the applet has already ended so why prompt? ...This is what I want to avoid.
    2. In the forms app. if the user clicks the windows "X" close button with uncommitted changes. The browser just closes the changes are rollback without prompting the user to save. The users sessions are now lost and still running in the database and application server until they are timed out.
    If I use Andrew's code then the user will be prompted to continue to close or go back, if they click Cancel to go back then focus returns to the forms application and the user can continue to work. If the user clicks OK then the window closes and unfortunately their sessions are still lost until timed out.
    So what I desire is to add to Andrew's code to check if the embedded applet is still running and prompt the user to close or not accordingly.
    Something like:
    Basejini.htm like
    </HEAD>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    function maximizeWindow()
    window.moveTo(0,0);
    window.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);
    function confirm(){
    If(document.embeddedapplet.closed())
    Win.opener = self;
    win.close();
    Else if
    event.returnValue = "Closing Forms Application. OK to continue?";
    </SCRIPT>
    <BODY %HTMLbodyAttrs%, onload="maximizeWindow()", onbeforeunload="confirm()">
    %HTMLbeforeForm%
    I hope this explains my requirements.

    I'm sorry this is not helpful at all.
    Note 199928.1 is only an alert which does not stop the closing of the window and still displays as an alert if the user does close properly using exit form ... so why would you want to display the alert then?
    This is exaclty what I do not want and why I want to determine if the applet is still running before displaying any kind of message.

    Closing thread.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    I had the same issue last year - wanting to provide a warning on closing the browser, but only if the Forms session is still running. The approach I took is described below, see also the thread where I originally posted this at Closing brower window
    Hi there,I've had a similar requirement - or rather, the two conflicting requirements: to warn when the browser is being closed, but for the app to be able to close the browser without a warning being fired.
    To always provide a warning when someone (the user or the Forms app) tries to go to a different page (e.g. your close.htm), use Javascript like:
    function confirmExit(){
    if(appletRunning==true) {
    msg="Closing this window or navigating to another page will end your SomeGreatApp session.";
    window.event.returnValue=msg;
    And make a call to confirmExit() in the onBeforeUnload event of your main page.
    You'll notice I first check an 'appletRunning' variable before displaying the warning. This Javascript variable is set to true by my app when it starts up, using an embedded Javabean that calls out to Javascript. Once that variable is set to true, then the warning will be displayed if the user tries to shut the browser by clicking on the 'x' button, or to go to a different URL.
    When my app is shutting down, it uses the same Javabean to set appletRunning back to false. It then navigates to a close.htm - which will be done without a warning being displayed.
    See Re: How can a Javabean call Javascript function of the basejpi.html?? for example code on how to call Javascript from a bean embedded in your Forms app.
    Hope these ideas help you out, it's worked for me (so far, anyway!!)

  • How to tell N6.5 DHCP to use a W2k8 for PXE?

    Hello,
    could anyone give me a hint, how to tell my netware DHCP to use a Windows Server 2008 R2 running Acronis with PXE Server?
    Actual Situation:
    Netware 6.5 Sp8 Server with ZENWORKS in Cluster mode
    Netware DHCP Server
    ZEN7 SP1 Imaging
    --> works fine so far, and no problem in other subnets, IP-helper are configured in the switches
    New Situation:
    Netware 6.5 Sp8 Server with ZENWORKS in Cluster mode
    Netware DHCP Server
    Windows Server 2008 R2 running Acronis Snap Deploy with PXE-Server - in future may be a clean Windows Deployment service without Acronis
    --> that would be nice :)
    I found serveral ini-files (dts.ini, pdhcp.ini, tftp.ini) where I configured the new IP-Address of the W2k8 PXE Server.
    Now:
    The Client gets its correct IP-Address from Netware DHCP
    but after that the following messages:
    Auto-select:
    ZENworks Boot
    Boot Server IP: --.--.--.-- (the correct one configured in the ini-files!)
    TFTP.
    PXE-T02:
    PXE-E3C: TFTP Error - Access Violation
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent
    Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot.

This option should only be set if both DHCP and PXE services are on the same server (as is probably the case in your situation as I'm guessing both DHCP as also PXE get loaded in the same cluster resource script).
    For subnets serviced outside of the subnet your DHCP server is running in, you will need to configure multiple ip helpers: one that points to the DHCP server and one points to the PXE server so those requests on other subnets get serviced correctly.
    To get things running it's probably easier to try to get this to work on the subnet your DHCP and PXE server are running in (so you are not also having to deal with the ip helper setup just yet). If that works, then expand you configuration to different subnets & ip helpers.
    Hope that helps,
    Willem
    As a ps and for clarification, don't load the PDHCP on any of the NetWare servers... just have the PXE PDHCP service running on the Windows server.
    The PDHCP/PXE service for ZenWorks won't understand/work with the Arconis one and visa versa.

  • How to tell if Im on AT&T?

    Hey guys. I guess I live right on the edge of an area covered/not covered by at&t. I have noticed that my reception bars have changed from black and white to colored and I have even seen a E next to it. So my question is how do I make sense of the different colors or letters so I know if Im on AT&T or some other network?

    how to tell if Im actually using at&T's own cell towers or a competitors.
    You will never be using a competitor's towers. A competitor would be T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, etc. and you'll never connect to their networks. You may in some cases be using an AT&T partner. In this thread, one poster advised:
    "To get an indicator when you are roaming on an AT&T partner network, call 611 and ask them to activate the (free) "Off Network Alpha Tag" on your account. If they ask why, tell them you want to be a good guy and observe the (usually unenforced) data limits while roaming."
    Hope that helps.
