on my iphone 4 it still wants me to answer the security question to improve the security How do I fix this I have been doing this for the past 5 days or so and it's bugging me!

It will be 3 questions no matter where you do it. It's been quite a while since I did this myself, but as I recall this is what I did:
Open iTuens on your computer
Click Store>View My Account
In the pop-up window, verify that the correct Apple ID is shown, then enter your password and click View Account
At that point, I believe I was prompted to choose my security questions and provide answers. Or perhaps I had to click Done on the bottom right first...can't remember.
If that doesn't work, try choosing Store>Sign Out and then Store>Sign In, provide your password and perhaps you will get the prompt then.

You can set up more than one device on your computer, and iTunes will remember the settings for each of them:

But you'll have to use your Apple ID to sync bought media to her device. Disable all other things you don't want to sync like photos, contacts, etc.

If a defect in a single device causes you decide that you will no longer purchase Apple products, that is certainly within your rights to decide. But I'd suggest you allow Apple to replace your iPhone, which again will be another black model, and see if that unit fares better. Then if that replacement iPhone has the same problem with the coating flaking off, you would have justification for asking Apple to replace the black iPhone with a white one.
By the way, we are all just fellow users here, so making blanket statements about Apple's overall product quality and threatening to stop buying Apple products really is of no help to anyone.

no, the backlight works. it's the display that doesn't. it had the problem even before i took it somewhere. also, it says the IMEI is invalid, because the phone isn't on it's network anymore. i was going to unlock it, but since the screen isn't working, i can't do that.

You need the password if it is iCloud locked you won't be able to activate the phone for use.
As long as he remembers his email, you can reset the password

If it is a lock screen password, you can do a restore.
Hold down power and home for 10 seconds and release power but keep holding down home. iTunes will say your phone is in recovery mode so you can restore it.

I had 146 pictures on my iPhone 4S PhotoStream but it wasn't syncing to my PC properly so I "reset" my iCloud trying to get things to work.
So now the NEW picures I take sync to my PC just fine ... is there any way at all to get the 146 pics to sync to the cloud now? Or any way of getting them to my PC short of emailing them all? HELP!

Thanks so much Winston - I didn't even realize that the cord I use to recharge with an outlet is actual a USB connection that disconnects from the outlet plug! Worked like a charm ... PC detected the new device, loaded up the proper drivers, and I was able to move pictures over from the now available folder from the "My Computer" icon or into Picasa or whatever. A bit annoying that the pictures weren'tarranged in the same folders as on my iPhone, but all-in-all a most excellent suggestion - if I could figure outhow to give you a "green checkmark" indicating you solved my problem I would do so, but for now please settle formy thanks!

IPhone sync - I just want my music on the go

My iPhone takes 3+ hours to sync ever since I upgraded my firmware to 2.0.x. I used to enjoy buying songs from iTunes then sync it before I head out. I no longer can do this because it takes hours to backup, copy, etc. before it gets to the syncing part. (This happens everytime I sync.)
I know this topic's been discussed a million times over on the internet. But this makes my iPhone as a mp3 player useless and there seems to be no supported fix for it.
If there is an official fix from apple or one is planned I'd love to hear about it. Otherwise I'm planning to shop around... I need my music in less than 20min. I don't think that's too much to ask.

What version of the iPhone software is running on the iPhone? Go to Settings> General> About.
Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to a high speed USB port on the PC.
