Onboard digital integration

Hi all,
I have an application where I have a repetitive 30 kHz waveform (WF). This waveform is comprised of 10 individual pulses. What I'm interested in measuring is the area/integral/riemann sum/energy or whatever you want to call it of each pulse in the 30 kHz WF. One method would be to oversample and then compute this in software. A sample rate of 20 MS/s and above should get the job done. Obviously, the faster the sample rate the better the integral will be. However, I have 7 separate channels of similar WFs so the 5105 board with 8 simul sampled channels would be one choice. The downside of this method is record length. At the max rate of this board and with 7 active channels I think a total record length of ~0.6 sec is possible. In reality, what I really need is a sample rate of 300 kS/s (one sample for each of the 10 pulses of the 30 kHz WF) and then the record length will reach my requirements. The 5922 is one step closer by oversampling and then filtering and decimating. I haven't entirely ruled this approach out but instead of filtering and decimating it would great if I could get decimation through summing. Is there anything out there that does this? I don't think the 5922 will work since the bandwidth of the filter varies with sample rate. In essence, what I need is a digital summation in hardware so that I can either take longer record lengths with onboard memory or allow the capability of streaming to disk/ram without bus bottlenecks. Any thoughts, inputs, suggestions would be helpful. Also, I don't necessary need all 7 channels on one board (hence the mentioning of the 5922) but all will need to be strictly synchronized.

Let me see if I can address what I think are your two main questions:
1. How can I integrate the pulses acquired by the digitizer?
The easiest way to do this would be in post processing. We currently do not have a digitizer which will do what you want on the hardware itself. What we can do however is take measurements on the data after it is fetched from the onboard memory. You could either use the scalar or array measurements built into the NI-Scope API, or implement you own custom code that calculates what you need. You are correct that the record length on the 5105 with maximum memory and maximum sample rate would be roughly 0.6 seconds.
2.  Can I have a HW based summation of my signals?
Summation of the signals would have to be on post processing. We have an array measurement built into the API which sums multiple channels however, as before, this measurement is done post fetch of the data from the device. Also in regards to the 5922, the resolution changes over the frequency range, not just the bandwidth.
Overall, it seems like you are on the right track in terms of ideas; oversampling or filtering and decimation. It is important to note which aspects will be available in hardware or software. I have a few additional questions for you to help me get the best information to you.
What is the record length that you want?
You mentioned continuous acquisition and streaming, is this a streaming application?
Is there an explicit need to do the processing in HW? (i.e. is your application time critical?)

  • Xtrememusic: Digital out or Analog out, Advantages Disadvanta

    I have a Xtrememusic card, that has a wonderful sound using the analog outputs to 3 Sonic Impact T-Am
    ps.
    Now, I'm curious about using the digital out to a Panasonic SA-XR55 digital amp/receiver. I know I would lose the CMSS, but the Panasonic can do it's own synthesis of surround. I'm interested in knowing from users about the pros and cons of using the digital out or analog outs. I know the quality of the Xtrememusic DACs are good, and I read that the Panasonic?has a excellent sound output as well. If I choose to use the digital out, I could just use?the motherboard onboard digital out, although only in DVD modes does it do a true bitperfect pass through. In stereo mode, it's still using some of Windows to mix the sound. I could also use the digital out of the card. Seems like a shame to bypass all of that nice analog the card is capable of?
    Oh yeah, anyone know if a old Creative Li've 5. I/O panel will work with a Xtrememusic card??Thanks

    I believe you might have Skype set to auto-configure your soundcard. Try this, open Skype and go to it's audio setting menu. Disable the option 'Let Skype adjust my sound device setting.'

  • Dts interactive / dolby digital live toggle switch tray icon

    hey guys, i had a better post typed out but the preview button failed and deleted it all, haven't had that happen in a long time, i normally copy it to clipboard
    here's a crude little program i whipped up, which effecti'vely toggles dts interacti've, or dolby digital li've on or off, with a simple left click of the mouse, right clicking the icon opens the creative audio console, this actually just runs a simple batch file that stops or starts the Creative Audio Service, its handy for my setup
    creative audigy , set as default device in windows
    realtek onboard digital out set to dts:interacti've output device set in creative console encode tab
    media player classic forced to use realtek digital output
    the problem is i wish to stream raw dd/dts audio tracks from videos in media player classic, so i need to turn off encoding, with this program i just click the icon then start the video and have the raw dts/dd bitstream sent to my receiver
    here's the program, 64bit only changes the location uses to looks for the Creative Audio Console ( \Program Files (x86)\ )

  • How to find the max data transfer rate(disk speed) supported by mobo?

    I plan on replacing my current HDD with a new and bigger HDD.
    For this I need to know the max data transfer rate(disk speed) that my mobo will support. However, dmidecode is not telling me that. Am I missing something?

    So I guess, when I get the new HDD, I will first set it to AHCI and then install the OSes on it. See if NCQ helps any, and if not I will turn it back and re-install (if I have to). I am planning to have Windows only in virtualbox in the new drive.
    Anyhoo, while I was in the BIOS I found two things which I had questions about :
    1) Under Onboard Devices --> Integrated NIC , my setting is currently set at "On w/PXE" and it says the default should be just "On". Would it be ok to change it back to On since its a single machine and its not booting an OS on any server. I just don't want to have to re-install anything now since I will be doing that in the new HDD.
    2) How would I know whether my BIOS would support a 64 bit OS in Virtualbox? I checked some setting under Virtualization, but they weren't very clear.
    I will edit this post and let you know exactly what settings were present under the Virtualization sub-section.

  • Graphic Card Upgrade for a HP Q815

    HP is telling me  that a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS is recomended for an upgrade on my IQ815 desktop touchscreen. But it only has 512MB of memory. i would like to put a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT has 1024MB of RAM on it or 1 dollar more. Could I put this one in and it would work?
    Any help would be greatful. The Card would come from China...

  • Skype can't detect sound card

    Skype was working just fine previously when making a video call (could hear the other person well - no problems.) Then I stopped using the monitor stereo speakers and installed desktop speakers.
    Wasn't happy with them and uninstalled them about a day or two later. When I tried to make a video call again (after choosing monitor speakers again under the pc control panel - sounds and audio devices, also tried to choose monitor stereo speakers in Skype but didn't see this option) - there was no sound - even on the Skype test.
    So I tried "check settings" and saw under speaker - "can't detect your sound card". Under adjust speaker settings there's no speaker suggestions at all - it just says none.
    I also cancelled the speaker setting on SoundMAX digital integrated audio under the control panel.
    I have rebooted the system but still the same problem!

    I'v sorted out the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience!

  • MSI 280 R9 possible Dead of arrival?

    Chief complaint: No video signal from DVI/HDMI from card. After installing catalyst, windows will blue screen at login until MSI R9 280 card is taken out of the PCI slot
    New build with MSI R9 280, gigabyte GAB85M-D3H mobo (compatible with my card),  PSU XFX TS 550W Gold, core i5-4570, and windows 8.1.
    Onboard intel integrated graphics outputs works perfectly fine. The MSI card when installed the fan runs, and if I change the bios to direct video to the intel graphics, I can use the onborad HDMI slot for video and still boot up. Catalyst installer then is able to detect my card and be installed. At this point I plugged in my hdmi to video card before the reboot, still no video. After I rebooted, I still had no video (even after switching bios settings) and switched HDMI back to intel gfx. Now when I boot windows up, I get a bluescreen error.
    I suspect I have both a hardware issue with the MSI card and possible driver issues that locked windows out of loading completely.
    I have changed the gigabyte mobo BIOS around to try out different settings without any luck (changed compatibility CSM on/off, prioritized legacy or UEFI and vice versa, disabled fast boot)
    Please if anyone has any thoughts on what to do I VERY MUCH APPRECIATE YOUR EXPERTISE. I want to see if I can make this work without RMA'ing it to newegg or MSI.

    **also what is the advnatage of flashing your vbios to UEFI rather than legacy OUTSIDE of the protection from outside attacks?  I don't fully understand this as i've never used windows 8 before. I'm trying to read but its a bit tough.

    ok so it could be one of 2 things
    1: your VBIOS being used on the card is wrong (it has a 2 place switch near the Crossfire conectors) 1 is a GOP one for windows 8/8.1 and the other is legacy so you could try the other position (move it with the system shut down!)!
    2: your Motherboards BIOS so see if Gigabyte has a updated one as usually with newer cards you need to update that to get them to work correctly so that's worth a try!
    as for GOP/UEFI VBIOS versus Legacy a GOP/UEFI one is used for windows 8 for fast boot if not it may hold back loading the computer to start if its a legacy one! Legacy VBIOS is usually the one supplied on cards as it may be put onto a motherboard that may not support that type if its GOP!
    let me know if ether of the 2 suggestions above work!

  • Dell OptiPlex 3020: I only get sound from the internal speakers

    I have a brand new Dell OptiPlex 3020 running Windows 8.1. I am able to hear through the internal speakers, but I cannot get external speakers or headphones to work - I've tried both the jacks on the front and back.
    The microphone on my headset works correctly, but I still hear only through the internal speakers.
    Advice?

    Boot into the System Bios and make sure that Onboard Devices- Integrated Audio is On. Then exit the System Bios saving the change. Once back into Windows, open the Device Manager and make sure that ADI1983 HDA appears under Sound devices. Then re-test the rear green audio jack #4 using headphones. Also, reply to this post with the service tag of the system sent via private message so that I can look into the details of the system and assist you better.

  • Help with installing X800

    I bought a used X800 and also installed the latest driver and software from ATI.
    When I reboot, I simply get a black screen and the fan just keeps getting louder and louder before I have to hold the power button to shut it down. I currently use the ATI Radeon 9600 XT with no problem. I'm also running 10.4.5.

    Ok, the problem is back! I enjoyed the x800xt for a few weeks, and now the black screen is appearing again after a few minutes of use. I found the following text in the ati support page, anybody knows how to check if my " power supply meets the recommended specification of 300 Watts" since I'm using 2 internal hard drives. Maybe this is the cause of the problem.

    "Display Issues
    For users who are experiencing no display on initial power-on or “POST”:
    First of all, try re-seating the card into the appropriate slot and check that the monitor cable is properly connected to the ATI graphics adapter. (Check the cable at both ends)
    If your system has an onboard or integrated video adapter, check that the system is properly configured to use the ATI graphics product by visiting the Customer Care website and reviewing Topic ID 737-938:

    For AGP based video cards, check that your motherboard fully supports the AGP requirement of the video card (ie. AGP 4x/8x or AGP 2x/4x) review any relevant manual or information provided to you by your motherboard or system vendor.
    For Radeon 9500, 9700 and X800 series of cards, check that your power supply meets the recommended specification of 300 Watts. For systems that are using more than one hard drive or have multiple hardware components that draw additional power, a more robust power supply maybe required.
    If the system specifications meet the requirements, then any issues may be a result of the motherboard BIOS not initializing the display correctly in which case a BIOS update maybe required. Please contact your system or motherboard manufacturer for details. As an example, the Radeon X700 PCI Express may not boot on certain Sony VAIO systems which is resolved by a BIOS update, available directly from Sony."

  • Audigy 2 SPDIF Passthrough trou

    Well, I've been working on this one for about two days straight and I can't figure it out. When I play any AC3 signal with SPDIF passthrough, the audio skips or is choppy, dropping about 4 times per second. The video is fine.
    I have an Audigy 2 Platinum card and Logitech Z680 speakers. I have the optical out of the Audigy's li've dri've connected to the Z680 receiver. I've also tried the coax out to the coax on the Z680 with the same effect. The Z680 recognizes the Dolby Digital signal, and displays that status on it's lcd screen. I've tried playing a dvd through WinDVD and an avi file with AC3 audio using AC3Filter, both with the same effect. I also tried playing a dvd through my PS2 connected to the Z680s with the same optical cable, and the Z680 got the Dolby Digital signal and it played fine.
    I tried moving my card to a different PCI slot. I tried uninstalling all Creative software and drivers, reinstalling from the original Audigy2 cd. At this point, I tried to get it to work with the original drivers. I went into AudioHQ and set it to "SPDIF passthrough". Then my speakers didn't get the digital signal, and I didn't have any audio at all. When I switched it back to "Dolby Digital decode", the audio came back, but obivously the speakers didn't get the digital signal. So then I updated my driver to the most recent ones again, and now I have the same problem as before, choppy audio.
    The thing that I find odd is that it seems that if I play back the same portion of the video, it seems to be skipping in the same spots, but it is pretty frequent so that might be incorrect. It really sounds like the computer doesn't have the necessary equipment to process the audio, which doesn't make sense because ) it's worked before and 2)I would think that spdif passthrough would actually require less processing, because the signal isn't decoded.
    What should I do?

    Woohoo, I've made backward progress. So I uninstalled the card as completely as possible. I took the card out of the machine, uninstalled the drivers and applications, and went through the registry and deleted any and all keys related to the sound card. Then I put the card back in, reinstalled the drivers, and installed the most recent update. Now I've got more than just choppy audio, the receiver constantly drops the signal. Sometimes the sound comes through (for less than a second), and sometimes I just get noise, but most of the time it's silent.
    As it is, I've got my onboard digital sound card working fine. It passes the digital signal through to the receiver, which decodes it and plays it perfectly. But the Creative card should work, I spent a lot of money for it to work. This is all really frustrating.

  • HD Graphics Family??

    Hi i just purchased an HP Pavillion dm4- 2015dx and online it says it has an intel hd 3000 graphics card (which i read is very good), but when i look it up the hardware on the computer itself it just says "Intel HD Graphics Family". Is this just like a general name for all intel hd cards or did i get one with a different graphics card for some reason?

    You got the Intel HD 3000, which I would say is OK but not great or even very good. It is still "onboard" or integrated graphics, just better than it used to be. You can run a chip identifier from the intel website or dig a bit deeper into the hardware identification to get the plug and play id which will confirm what I am saying.

    tried to make it work with all the advice given including latest drivers, reformatting, pc latency changing etc but nothing worked
    i don't wanna bash creative but i'm not sure how this thing got released with such problems straight out of the box. my setup is copied from old alienware recommendations of about .5 years ago with gig ram 3.4 pentium 4 and 6800 geforce with an asus intel chipset so that is pretty mainstream quality stuff.
    it's like releasing a graphics card with beautiful graphics most of the time but lines appearing every few seconds
    i got the cracking on bf2 and also some in lord of the rings battle for middle earth 2 which was the last straw as it showed the problem was not exclusi've to bf2. the problem was most severe in bf2 and often showed up when the UAV was on screen detecting units and also after someone used the squad voice over IP function (afterwards the popping would start as it the voice over IP started to degenerate the performance or something)
    the sound was great but the popping and crackling was just unacceptable considering I shell out over $00 for the card and my onboard sound integration does not pop and crackle at all!!!!!!
    if the card did not pop or crackle or distort then it would be well worth the money but that is such a big deal that it makes the onboard sound superior to the x-fi which is ridiculous
    i am kind of disheartened cause I wanted it to work but now I don't know of a soundcard that I can get that does not crackle/distort and it is primarily geared for games. I might just have to stick with onboard sound
    i hope the problem gets fixed for all the other people out there but there was a 4 day return policy and since the problem has not been fixed after a year or whatever then I thought it was necessary to take it back ASAP
