One workbook, 2 identical queries, different variable values

We have a query which has a number of user-input parameters - Cost Centre, Year, Material etc.
We wish to embed this query twice in a BEx Analyser Workbook - with the same values for Year and Cost Centre, but each with a different Material.
What we are looking to do is make Year and Cost Centre global for the workbook, but Material to be variable. From what I can see our only option is to switch off the ability to collectively process all variables.
Thus my questions are:
1. Is there any way of selectively defining which variables to process during refresh?
2. Is there any other way of setting variable values (properties, macros etc)
Many thanks!

Hy,
try the bexgetdata available in Nw2004s/bi.
You generate 1 dataprovider in your workbook (maybe query with businessunit,
cost-centre, material, year and month + further in rows )
Embed the queryresult in your workbook.
Convert the result to formular (bexgetdata)
Now all cells have a formula (bexgetdata) with cell-adresses to the criterias.
For example, create a mastersheet and place year and period (central-variables).
Insert cells/rows at the top of each sheet (business-unit) and fill in the value for businessunit.
Now change the bexgetdata-formula, instead of the references in rows, refer to the
cell-adress of mastersheet and to the cell-adress of each workbooks.
You can use excel-functionality to copy all new formulas in each cell.
You can also copy the formula to each worksheet.
Delete all the lines you do not need. (Deleting the lines will not reduce the
result of the query!)
So you have one query (with a large selection) and you can place different
sub-results to the sheets.

  • Same BI query multiple times, different variable values ...

    Hi all, Im having a problem executing a BI query multiple times, passing different parameters. What I did is drag & drop the query multiple times (from the "Find Data" section) and pass different variable values from the signal-in of the nested iview that contains all of them, everyone has its own chart view. The problem is, only the first occurrence of the query is showing (only the first chart). I dont know if there is a restriction, or if I am missing something.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi all, forget about this, it was a problem in the query definition not in visual composer. Im closing this thread.

  • Different variable values for same query inserted 6 times in One workbook.

    Hi,
    We have one workbook with the same query inserted on 6 different tabs (sheets in excel), a variable on Business Unit that is different for each tab.
    How can we control the variable input in BW2004s such that the different BU values are processed for each tab.
    At present the BU value input in the "variable pop-up screen" over rides all the fixed variables on the different tabs.
    Generous points will be awarded for useful solution.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    I am  trying to use filters for executing 2 queries in a Web App. I have 2 dataproviders (one for each query), and I am trying to use filters for say Version.
    The URL is
    /sap/bw/BEx?cmd=ldoc&TEMPLATE_ID=ZTW_XXX&DATA_PROVIDER_1= DP1&FILTER_IOBJNM_1=0VERSION&FILTER_VALUE_1=F01&DATA_PROVIDER_2= DP2&FILTER_IOBJNM_2=0VERSION&FILTER_VALUE_2=F02.
    This doesnot work. Both queries get filtered on both 'F01' and 'F02'.
    I am trying to filter DP1 by F01 and DP2 by F02.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Run Variable values out of the "variable values window" in a excel workbook

    Dear experts,
    I am working on BI 7.10.
    Our workbooks are made of several data providers based on the same query and require many different variable values, which give us a long and unconvenient (for the users) "select values for variables" window (ex : we have a Profit and Loss report to run on different consolidation versions, fiscal years etc...)
    So I wonder if there is another way to enter these values, out of this window...(macro?)
    Many thanks for your help.
    Armelle

    my variables are global for all data providers since I use the same query for my data providers.
    It's just the values (some of them : ex: conso version) that differ from one data provider to another.
    ex : here for 2 diff Data providers based on the same query i need to enter the following values for mandatory variables
    Different versions / different years but same conso group / data entry year/ posting period.
    i would like to have the possibility to enter these values out of the "select values for variable" window (not convenient when we have 7 or 8 DP...), but directly in the workbook.
    But maybe this is not possible...
    In DP1
    conso version = A_PL
    conso group = FR01
    data entry year = 9999
    fiscal year = 2010
    Posting period = 12
    In DP2
    Conso version = P4_MAG
    Conso group = FR01
    Data entry year = 9999
    fiscal year =2011
    Posting period = 12

  • Using Broadcaster to run a query for sequential Variable Values

    Hi SDN Community
    I came across a powerpoint slide regarding broadcasting which i hope to use in one of our reports.
    We are on SAP BW 35.
    Broadcaster has been used
    Your opinion would be greatly valued in regards to the direction i should proceed for our particular purpose.
    We basically have a report which is a web report.  This contains much html and javascript enhancements.
    But it essentially has queries with a series of variables.
    The customer would like the Queries to be cached for each variable value for performance reasons, on a daily basis.
    eg. Run the same query for Variable value BMABRM, then BMASRM, etc...
    In a loop fashion.
    Do not need to set a process chain to trigger broadcaster, or rather simply to schedule the broadcaster to run daily.
    I would basically then want to run this (cache) query in an iterative fashion, ie. rerun it for all the sites.
    Can you please make a recommendation to which is the best approach, whether a process chain should be set up, and any experience you may have had setting up a query to rerun for different variable values.  We would of course want the query to run successfully before rerunning it for the next variable to avoid locks, etc.
    Thank you in advance.
    Simon

    Hi Rahul,
    i have been trying to use the process chain functionality to do this but unsure how to do it.
    Which objects do you use in the process chain:
    Trigger Event Data Change (for Broadcaster)
    or Execute APD Model
    or Precalculation of Web Templates
    i am unsure how to incorporate the queries into the process chain.
    If you have any steps , it would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • 1 workbook, 2 identical queries, 2 different currency types on one refresh

    Hello BEX Gurus
    I have to create a workbook with 2 identical queries (2 worksheets). One sheet should be with currency type A and the other sheet should be with currency type B. My input variables are on company code, period, year and currency type. How can I get on a single refresh both worksheets with the proper currency type data displayed ?  (1 sheet in CAD and the other one in USD for example).
    I tried unsetting the Workbook settings <Display same variable only once> so that I have a chance to input the parameters for every query and it works (as it shows me both data providers input variables) but this is not a good solution if I have 15 queries in another workbook ... i.e the user will not be happy inputting 15 parameter input popups...
    How is this achieved, considering that I am not a VB programmer, that we are on BI 7 and that I don't want to create new identical reports for the other currency type to report on ? If this involves VB coding, please be clear on how to implement this.
    Tx

    Joke
    When I drill across currency type, I get the <no applicable data found> message. There must be something I am doing wrong
    1) I added currency type in the <Free Charact> tab
    2) I refresh the workbook
    3) I filter the CAD sheet with the FIlter for currency = CAD
    4) Then I rmc and select the drill and I ge the no data found message.

  • How to set default variable value in the workbook

    Dear experts,
    I used several queries in a workbook and one of these queries contained a variable, so when every time the workbook is opened there is a window popping up to ask user to input the value for the variable.
    Now I wanna set an default value for this variable so that the variable input window will not pop up when the workbook is opened.
    I searched the forum and found most solutions is to use the SAPBEXqueries to set value for the variable.
    But in my BEx analyzer I can not find this sheet named SAPBEXqueries. and I also found some difference  between my analyzer and the ones descripted in the forum.
    My BEx analyzer version is 6.40. I think it's a new version.
    Do you know how to solve my problem with this version BEx analyzer?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards
    Fanchest

    Hi Leo,
    Yes I tried the personalization but it seems doesn't work, I don't know why.
    I set the personalization in the BEx analyzer according to the help documentation step by step but the variable selection screen still pop up when the workbook is opened.
    If I executed  the query which contained in the workbook seperately there is no variable selection screen pop up.
    And because I don't wanna change the variable, so I didn't uncheck the ready to input.
    Thanks for your infomation!

  • Combine Queries in one workbook

    Hi guys,
    I am looking for a way to combine multiple queries in one workbook.
    For example: If I set a filter in one query to the month November, the same filter (e.g. November) should apply to all other queries (which are on another worksheet or on the same worksheet).
    How can I do this?
    Many thanks,
    Sabin

    Hi Sabine,
    You have two options:
    1.  the easy one is to use same variables in the refresh screen for all queries in the same workbook; if you do this, then use the "refresh all queries" option, you will get the same restrictions applying to all queries in the workbook simultaneously.
    2.  the more difficult way to do this is to use a lot of Visual Basic.  Using Visual Basic, you can "read" the filter value set on a particular query, then "apply" that filter value to every other query in the workbook.  OR, you can use the "Copy Filter Value" function.  I prefer the latter for a number of reasons.
    From your earlier notes, I assume you want to use option 2.  To help you further, it would be useful to know what version of BW you are using, and how your users typically refresh queries (i.e., with a button in the workbook, or using the Business Explorer toolbar?).
    It would also be helpful to know your level of comfort with VBA in Excel.
    Here are some notes on the "Copy Filter Value" function:
    Function SAPBEXcopyFilterValue(fromCell As Range, Optional atCell As Range) As Integer
    • Return value of zero indicates that no errors were encountered.  Otherwise, function returns number of errors encountered.
    • If atCell is not specified, the active cell is used to determine which characteristic to return information for.  If the active cell is not part of a query definition, then function returns an error state.
    • Characteristics (fromCell and atCell) must have same technical name; for example, cannot copy filters for Ship-to (0SHIP_TO) in Sales cube to Ship-to (YCOCUSSH) in a Shipments cube
    • Queries (copying from and to) must be in same Excel Workbook.
    Sub CopyFilterOnce()
    Dim filterRng1 As Range, filterRng2 As Range
        'in this example, we are copying filters from query on sheet
        'with code name Query1 to query on sheet with code name Query2
        Set filterRng1 = Query1.Range("F10")
        Set filterRng2 = Query2.Range("D13")
        retVal = Run("SAPBEX.xla!SAPBEXcopyFilterValue", filterRng1, filterRng2
    End Sub
    Hope this helps.

  • Selected variable value is different from the displayed value

    Hi all,
    I have an issue with variable selection in portal. I have a IO - customer which is compounded to source system. So I have soem customers with the same key with different sources. And I have a variable created on customer. For ex - i have 3 customers like below.
    SA/1234567
    BP/1234567
    F5/1234567
    1 - And when I search for a customer 1234567 - I find only one customer that is SA/1234567. And IO properties are set to read all the masterdata values and not infoprovider or posted values.  - thats issue one - I would like to see all the three and let the user select what ever he wants.
    2 - Now when I select SA/1234567 and run the report. It shows me data for F5/1234567 - which is correct data for that customer. But in the template I have a info field web item to display the selected variables on the screen. That info field shows the Customer as BP/1234567 - which is wrong and confusing. I checked the properties of the web item and everything seems ok.  So in the variable screen I get a value, the result set if of another value and the variable value that shows in the Info tab is another customer. - Driving me nuts
    3 - When I recreate the same scenario in 3.x query - everything works the way they should - this only happens in 7.0 query. What am I missing here??
    Any pointer or insight is appreciated - sorry for the long post.

    Sorry - its not how its displaying the values rather what its displaying - it misses on 2 other values from the three - though the Bex setting in IO are set to read all the values from materdata table. And in the query I'm using IO properties. And display settings are ok

  • Passing a variable value from one query to another within a web template

    Hi All,
    I have a web template with two queries.  Both queries have the same select option variable called ZSELCUST on the characteristic ZCUSTOMER but because they are different info providors (both infocubes) the customer has to be entered once for each query, even with the 'Display same variable only once' flag checked.
    I want the user to select the customer once and then that value be passed to the other query within the resulting web template output.
    Am I right in that the same variable is used more than oncee because of the different info providors?
    I'm struggling, can anyone help out there....???
    Best Regards,
    Stuart Humphrey

    Hi
    A way of doing this is by "linking" the queries: in transaction RSBBS you define the sender and receiver queries. In query navigation you can jump to the dependent query (blue arrow icon in the BEx tool bar). This transfers the navigational state to the called query: filters over characteristics and variable values.
    Hope this help

  • Max. number of queries in one workbook

    Hello experts,
    is there a mximum number of queries which can be embedded in one workbook?
    What are the disadvantages of using many queries in one workbook.
    Are there other disadvantages for input ready queries?
    Thank you
    Johannes

    Johannes, to follow up on Rakesh' answer, your performance will depend on the amount of data you are pulling out with the queries.
    as for the additional disadvantages - unless you use the BExGetData formula, formatting will be your primary issue.  Also, when you create buttons for the input ready query, the only time you get to set what Data Provider you are using is when you first code the button.   After that, you would need to recreate the button to ensure that you are pointing to the right query.
    the advantages are that you can model your reporting requirements any way you want (for example we use two multiproviders with different characteristics and use 6 queries to pull the data out)

  • How to use bind variable value of one VO as initial value for other VO row?

    JDeveloper 10.1.3.3, ADF Faces, ADF BC
    Hi,
    I have two View Objects: one read only with several bound variables and another editable entity based. Correspondingly there are two ADF Faces pages: first contains search form based on the read-only VO and second create form based on the editable VO. The search form has several hidden fields for some of bound variables because they aren't edited directly by user. These fields are updated with PPR when user selects other search criteria from LOV.
    There is a command button in the first page that navigates to the second form. Is there any way to transfer values of bound variables from the first VO to the second VO as initial values of the new row?
    I tried to set custom controller for the second page and retrieve search criteria values from request parameter map but values from hidden fields are missing. I think because that these fields are updated by PPR. Of course I can add custom action method to the navigation button and in the method put these values to request parameter map but I hope there is better solution.
    Thanks,
    Marius

    To summarize, given a bind variable value for one VO, on creating a row in a second VO, for 1 of the attributes of the second VO, you want to use the first VO's bind variable value. Correct?
    A potential solution ADF BC driven:
    1) Ensure you have an AppModuleImpl for your AM
    2) Ensure you have a ViewImpl for your 1st VO (where the bind variable will exist) - lets refer to that VO as "Alpha"
    3) Ensure you have a ViewRowImpl for your 2nd VO (the one you want to default the value in) - lets refer to that VO as "Beta"
    4) For your first VO "Alpha" create the bind variable (say pValue)
    5) In your second VO "Beta" ViewRomImpl add following code:
    @Override
    protected void create(AttributeList attributeList) {
      super.create(attributeList);
      AppModuleImpl am = (AppModuleImpl)this.getApplicationModule();
      String someValue = am.getAlphaView1().getpValue();
      setSecondVOAttr(someValue); // change this code to whatever your setter is for the field you want to initialize.
    }Hope this helps. Let us know how you go.

  • How to change the variable value format in Ip workbooks

    Dear Experts,
    How to add zeros to a vaiable value before passing to a planning function in BEx analyzer?
    eg: 'ZPRCTR_VAR1' (For Infoobject 0PROFIT_CTR)
    User enters value 20 for 'ZPRCTR_VAR1' , but the system know only '0000000020'. I wrote a user exit like this, but nothing happens and I get variable value 20 is incorrect, planning function cannot execute. Please advice .
    DATA ZDIVISION   TYPE /BI0/OIPROFIT_CTR.
    DATA ZDIVISION1   TYPE /BI0/OIPROFIT_CTR.
    WHEN 'ZPRCTR_VAR1'.
         IF i_step = 2.
          LOOP AT i_t_var_range INTO loc_var_range
            WHERE vnam = 'ZPRCTR_VAR1'.
            zdivision = loc_var_range-low.
           MOVE l_s_range-low to zdivision.
          ENDLOOP.
        ENDIF.
    CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERSION_EXIT_ALPHA_INPUT'
       EXPORTING
         INPUT         = zdivision
      IMPORTING
         OUTPUT        = zdivision1.
        CLEAR l_s_range.
        l_s_range-sign  =  'I'.
        l_s_range-opt   =  'BT'.
        MOVE zdivision1 TO l_s_range-low.
        APPEND l_s_range TO e_t_range.
    Thanks,
    Gnana

    Hi Gnana,
    you can use de "area value" option when define a button with planning function and variables for passing values to function. These values are in excell cells so you can modify it as you want.
    So imagine that your planning function has only one variable, the command sequence looks like
    CMD                                           1       EXECUTE_PLANNING_FU
    PLANNING_FUNCION_NAME       1       YOUR_FUNCTION
    DATA_PROVIDER_FILTER           1       DATA_PROVIDER_1
    VAR_NAME_1                             1       YOUR_VARIABLE
    and now you delete row with VAR_VALUE_1 and in result area you use for example
    $A$1:$C$1
    Now, cell A1 = VAR_VALUE_1
    cell B1 = 1
    cell C1 = Reference to another cell with your variable value (text item). You can use any excell function for fill 0's
    And now, when you execute planning function you're passing cell C1 as value of your variable.
    Hope it helps.

  • Using action script 2 how can i send a variable value to a dynamic textbox on a different keyframe?

    using action script 2 how can i send a variable value to a dynamic textbox on a different keyframe?

    Thanks for your swift response.
    That sounds like a good solution, but the code I have on frame 2 is this
    timer = 0;
    countup = function(){
    timer++;
    countupInterval = setInterval(countup,100);
    If I added the same actionscript to frame 3 which has a dynamic textbox with a variable timer attached wouldn't it just put the timer back to 0? What I want is the last known value that was given when it was in frame 2.
    I am thinking of temple run here, I am trying to caculate the total distance(set in the timer variable) from the previous try.
    Hope this makes sense.
