OOPS, Dropped it, Now.....

Early G4 PB, As a warning for others.......
I had it in a soft briefcase over my shoulder, bent over and it slipped off, Didn't sound like it hit the ground hard, but when I finally got around to looking at it, the power plug corner was bent bad enough that the plug wouldn't fully insert & light up and bent back into shape easily enough and doesn't look that bad, but My entire fit and finish seems to be deteriorating along with normal wear and tear.
But what's scaring me now is my Hard drive? is tapping louder than normal during tasking. Scrolling, Cut, paste, clicking, closing files, web pages etc, During normal spinning up it sounds normal.
I also have some warping on the front edge by the battery, And usually feel the tapping with my right hand on the top of the case. (Hunt and peck with the left)
I had the latch repaired quite a while ago and for some reason the front casing in the latch release area has been bending out? and the casing edge by the battery also looks like it's been hit at one time also. All the plastic around the corner doesn't fit well as well as having a dent in it and the metal only showing a scuff and doesn't fit flush with the battery, but I don't think it ever did it being a replacement and a bit more out of shape now. But the entire plastic edge around the entire unit doesn't fit well anymore,
Otherwise function appears normal and I usually have problems with slow operation and short or usually occurring kernel panics, freezes with mail and safari anyway that I couldn't tell for sure were aggravated by the fall and am still running 10.2.8, so restarted and ran the disc utility verify and repair which usually fixes it a bit and Techtool which didn't show anything wrong with the hardware.
Anyone want to chime in about when some kind of immanent failure might be due? I'm near 4-5? years old now anyway (first one) and haven't had any problems other than losing the feet on the case promptly, poor battery life, performance, worn out charger plug cord and a broken latch fixed under applecare.
With the exception of a few large apps, iphoto and misc. files most of my important stuff is backed up on .mac idisc with isync, but might look around for other stuff to backup if this is a sign of something terminal coming up.

Just discovered my CD/DVD drive doesn't work anymore, Rarely ever use it. But had a problem loading web pages after it fell off my car seat and tried to use my hardware test disc to see if something would show up because nothing did running techtool.
This resulting in a freeze up after the desktop flashed of an back on with fractured desktop icons etc. But still spitting the disc out of the drive (after a bit of abnormal noise and not showing up as an icon)
So I shut it down and restarted with a bit longer than normal start up time, Then trying a dvd, the software restore disc and a blank disc, all just resulting in same few cycles of abnormal noise, ticking and rubbing like a cassette tape might and eventually spitting them back out. Never showing up as icons on the desktop.
So it appears I won't be able to save anything on a disc.
It still seems to function online.

If you bought Apple Care + with your iPad take the iPad to an Apple Sptre, pay the minimum charge and get a replacement. If you didn't buy Apple Care + then you'll have to payc a higher fee for a replacement.
But your pad is indeed broken. It doesn't handle being dropped very well.
You might try giving the iPad a good hard slap on the back with your hand to see it the problem can be corrected. Yes, I'm serious.

My ipad 4 dropped and now apps open and close on their own

My ipad 4 dropped off my lap. The glass is intact but now all the apps open and close randomly on their own. I tried to reboot it and it didnt workd. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

THANKS for your prompt reply Bluetooth is off in my laptop and IPhone.. and in fact the reset is the only thing that can make it back to normal. But for a lil while. I wonder if it is the touch, or the home botton... both things are very expensive to replace, so I wouldn't like to spend $$ and continue having the prob.....

Dropped iPhone - Now my screen is blurry

I dropped it from about pocket height and now everything on my screen is really blurry, everything works, but it is pretty hard to text because the letters are blurred together. Is this warrantyable? Could they fix it at an apple store? You can't tell that i dropped it. I am not trying to scam apple, i just want to know what to do, I have only had the phone for about 3 months.

Warranty usually only covers manufacture defects. I work for AT&T Mobility and can honestly say that the warranty group scrutinizes over every piece of equipment to ensure that the defective equipment does in fact fall under warranty. Apple on the other hand may have other options. You stated the phone was dropped... This is not covered under warranty.
As for checking with your home owners insurance, I personally wouldn't recommend it. From what I've been told, the insurance companies are losing money with the way the policies are written today, so I would hate to file a claim for the mere cost of an iPhone, then have my policy dropped and be forced to shop around for a new policy at a higher price then what I'm paying now. Save the claim against "home owners" for when you need it in case of an emergency

Last night, WiFi connection dropped and now it's a nightmare...

Last night, my iPad2 suddenly became unable to detect the router form more than about six feet away. It's been working fine since it was purchased just before Christmas, however now, even sitting in the same room about three feet away, it drops from two bars to one, and I need to hold the iPad virtually on top of the router to get it to pick it up.
At home, I reset the router, updated the firmware, I've playeed with the router's channels, modes, name, every suggestion I could find online. I reset the iPad, updated it, hard reset.
I took it to the Apple store today, and it connected to their WiFi with no problems, full signal. I'm guessing, however, they don't use the average type of router you'd find in a normal household in their cavernous stores. As they could detect no issues with it, I was sent away, no better off.
It's still under warranty - it's barely four months old - and I'm at my wits end already. I've spent all day online (via my laptop!) and read endless forums about users with sinmilar issues, however I've been happily using the iPad since purchase without issue. Any suggesitons welcome; my ideal outcome? I'd quite like it replaced to be honest, but Apple won't be willing to do it obviously if they can't replicate the problem.
In my opinion, it's an issue with the antenna - I've had this issue with a wireless card in a laptop many years ago, whereby a signal was possible, but severely diminished. I may be wrong, of course, but it's very frustrating, and a strange thing to happen out of the blue.

I've restarted the iPad constantly, with every change to the router's settings; nothing seems to be helping.
I have the usual types of kit in the house, two laptops,an xbox, a ps3, and they are all connecting fine. It literally happened last night - sitting watching the ITVplayer in the other room, and the signal disappeared and couldn't pick it up again.
I presently have one bar sitting about three feet away, directly in front of the router. Asbolutely furious about it, and if it's the result of an update, I don't really feel it's fit for purpose and I'd like to think I'm well within my rights to request a replacement for it - but I'd rather just sort it myself, frankly.
It's very disappointing, to be sitting here with a £400 Angry Birds player.

Sorry, but dropping is accidental damage, and it's not covered by your warranty. You can take it to the apple store and see wha they can do or see about an 'out of warranty replacement', read pay a reduced fee to swap out your broken one for a refurbished replacement.

TS3274 dropped ipad now screen doesn't display

My daughter dropped her ipad and now the screen doesn't display anything. We can see some light changes but nothing else. It appears that the screen can still be touched to use apps because we are able to play music. Any suggestions on what we should do?

Not sure if you've fixed this, but it really works. After reading similar advice, I banged it on the corner of my couch and the display totally came back clear as day. Could not read it before.

BT Infinity 2 Speed dropped and now doesn't recove...

I've had BT Infinity 2 for a couple of years now and it has been working flawlessly. I use a Fritz!Box 7390 router and have had no problems at all with it.
That is until mid-January 2014 when I noticed by connection speed dropping down to less than 40MB/s and about 9MB/s on the upload. Now some may say that this is fine, and it does exceed my promised speed of 31MB/s by BT, which is true. However for the last two years I've constantly had speeds of 55-70Mb download and upload speeds of 13-18MBs.
Speedtest.net is reporting: 40Mb download and 10.3 Mb upload.
I do a lot of file transfers and remote server work so I notice the speed drop.
The Frtiz!Box reports some interesting statistics. Currently it is showing this:

Now I know for a fact that prior to this issue the Fritz!Box has been reportinging a Max. DSLAM throughput of 79000 and 20000 with an attainable data rate of 81000 and 24000 respectively. I suspect that there is something wrong either at the exchange DSLAM or with the line in between.
From the above figures it suggests that I am only obtaining BT Infiinty 1 speeds on my line and not Infinity 2. However my account says Infinity 2 and checking with the BT guys they report that there is no problem because I'm getting more than that promised 31 MB/s.
Frustrating as I know this has changed in the last three weeks. What's more suspecious is that I have the Fritz!Box sete to disconnect/reconnect every day at 4am. This means that every day normally I get a varying speed e.g. one day it might report 60/14, the next 55/13, etc. However since I've noticed this problem the line speed never changes, constantly reporting 44/12 with no fluctuation at all. This has been happening for about 3-5 weeks.
I just wondered if there is anything I can do now to find out where or really if there is a problem. BT 150 telephone support in India don't want to know because they say I'm getting more than 31Mbs.

Dropped AOL, now can't get to my music!!

I had an AOL account for the last few years, and I had bought a lot of music from iTunes Store during that time. I recently dropped my AOL account. After downloading the newest version of iTunes, I am "not authorized" to access any of the music I bought through that AOL account. How can I get it all back? I bought and paid for a lot of music during that time....any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for the reply. I was able to get the prompt to change my account. It asked for credit card information to verify my identity. I gave that, and it was accepted. Then it asked for new email and password. I tried to put in my existing .mac account, but it wouldn't allow me to merge this account into that account.
So, I put in another email address. It was accepted, and I was moved on to step 3. I verified the credit card info, name, address, and clicked "done". Now it is saying that I made a mistake on either my "Apple ID or password". The password is over 6 characters long, so that isn't it. What am I doing wrong? Why can't I get this to work? And why can't I just merge the AOL account into my .Mac account?

My daughter dropped her 4th generation i pod touch and now half the screen is white, what should be the fix for this?

The $99 is the exchange price for an 8, 16 or 32 GB 4G iPod. It is $199 for a 64 GB one.
Some users have posted here that sometime the white screen from dropping is due to a lose connection. Try Googling.

Dropped phone now screen won't work

Hi, I bought a Blackberry Pearl around 2 weeks ago. Today, for the first time, I dropped it from a height of 3 feet and the screen went white. I removed the battery because I could not turn it off with the button, when I tried to turn it back on, the screen would not respond. I get a black screen now, however, the cellphone still works, I still get calls. What do you recommend I do because where I am from, the people who can actually repair the blackberrys work for private companies and I purchased my phone online. First question, can the blackberry still be saved? Second question, is the repair process simple? Would a new screen do the deed? I hope someone can assist me with this I was deeply shocked when I realized the phone didn't work the fall was nothing out of the ordinary and the phone was brand new, I feel ripped off .

It may have been a simple fall, but depending on how / where the phone "hit" the floor could have caused damage. Remember that electronic devices are fickle and sensitive to minor "shocks", so your phone very well could have fallen on that "magic spot" that made it break.
As for getting it fixed, you don't mention where you are, but you may want to search for an online repair shop that you can send your phone to.

Dropped laptop - now warped

I recently dropped my laptop, and while everything works, it's now warped. It's kind of like sitting at a wobbly table at a restaurant...
Any idea if it's possible to buy a 'shell' that they can just load the hard drive into? Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!

Well, let us know when you get around to using the service. I always recommend them, but have never used them personally. If I needed service, I would. In fact, I almost did but it was a money issue. Didn't have the $$ to go through with the upgrade I wanted. (250GB hard drive upgrade).
It'll be good for those of us who may drop theirs or mess it up in the future, knowing $240 will save our investments.
Mine is still mint condition, so I'm good.

Dropped and now makes noise in disc drive

Hi, my Macbook got knocked off my desk while moving furniture the other day...no apparent damage, except now when I move it (carrying it in a backpack between classes) and use it again, the CD drive goes crazy and makes all these ejecting noises (there's no disk inside). It stops eventually if I shake it a little, and it doesn't seem to be causing any problems with the computer's function, but should I get this looked at? I don't want it to escalate into something worse.

I would suggest getting this looked at. You don't know if other parts of the system have been affected. Unfortunately any problems caused by damage like dropping the MacBook are not covered by a warranty, but possibly they may be covered by your homeowner's/renter's insurance or by a credit card if you purchased the MacBook that way. Consult with your CC issuer and your insurance company to find out.
Eventually you are going to want that optical drive.

Urgent! iPhone dropped and now displaying "Activate iPhone" message!

I dropped my iPhone today. I am now getting an "activate iPhone, connect to iTunes message." My iPhone was already activated a couple of months ago. When I connect it to iTunes, it says "iPhone cannot be viewed in iTunes because no SIM card is installed." Ahh! Please help!

Have you tried holding down the on/off button and the home button until the Apple logo appears to reset your iphone? otherwise if it doesn't appear in itunes i would contact Apple to see what they have to say.
