Oops! I made it worse!!
I tried taking .plist files that are attached to apps no longer in my computer out as well as some seemingly useless .plist files belonging to Yahoo! (which I do use) and I put them on the desktop. Now, things are worse than before.
I am not even sure how to put these back.
Does anyone know how I can get these files back where they came from (if I need to put them back). I am unsure of what to do.

Your answers were very reassuring that I did not make things worse. In fact, after I posted this I shut down my laptop and in a few hours I decided to check for any answers to my problem and surprisingly everything was like it was before I moved the .plist files. They were replaced with new ones, I guess. Now I am back with the 'other' old problems:
I set up an Airport Extreme BaseStation and went wireless about 6 weeks ago. Things have gotten really slow loading pages while I am online. I read the two posts to my query and when I hit "reply" to write this I had to wait almost 15 minutes, for this page to type my reply on, to appear. I have to wait forever for pages to load online.
Interestingly, during these long load times I can hit the "stop loading" icon and then the "reload the current page" and in 1 out of 4 times, the loading will very quickly produce the page! I've even done this once, nothing happens, and hit "stop" then "reload" the second time and there it is: the quick loading producing the desired page.
Sometimes a loading page will produce a partial page and over the next 10+/- minutes the rest of the page will SSSLLLOOOWWWLLLYYY appear.
This is annoying!!! I've been reading other posts and that's where I got the idea using ONYX and MONOLINGUAL could help. ONYX and MONOLINGUAL seemed to help performance in some ways but the slow loading when online remained. I do not know what else to do! I am afraid I am going to do damage I don't know how to repair.

Recent software upgrades has changed the way my iPhone syncs with my macbook and items entered on my iPhone are no longer uploaded to my macbook. I've tried to fix it and seem to have made things worse, my iPhone now has a long list of calanders that I don't want and can't delete and nothing is uploading to my macbook.
You need to look at Mac's iTunes, check > System Preferences > iCloud.
If you use iCloud for Calendar, Contacts then turn off those items in iTunes, Info tab with your iPhone connected and selected. -
I've tried to do the iTunes upgrade, but the iTunes.msi file was missing/ could not be found.
I've tried the fixes listed by people online, but it has just made it worse. The files are now corrupted and I cannot update/ repair/ uninstall, etc......
How do I fix this?
Thank you in advance........Apple provides a brain-dead simple way to backup all your personal data in the form of Time Machine that keeps incremental backups going back at least several weeks, if not months (depending on the size of the backup drive). Why more people don't use it is a puzzle to me. In this day and age of person, and very important, data being digitial (sometimes exclusively) backing everything up becomes imperative. Ideally a good backup scheme should incorporate multiple backup solutions in case of very serious emergencies, but for most people, and in the case described in the OP TM is a very good solution. If a file is deleted, then found to be needed again, just go to the date and time in TM just before the file was deleted and restore it. Simple. But it doesn't work if you aren't backing up. So... backup, backup, backup. You'll thank yourself that you did when you finally need it.

Why I feel Quicktime ripped me off - and how their CS made it worse
Ok so this was about 6 months ago. I had been interested in learning more and more about QT, and finally to spend the money to upgrade to QT Pro. I think the standard at the time was version 6. I authorized a credit card payment for the $60 or whatever it was, and got the authorization code numbers in seconds to upgrade to QT Pro, and I was very happy.
Three days later they came out with QT version 7. It was loaded onto my Powerbook with the other standard downloads, I didnt really think anything sinister of it as I had JUST paid for the Pro upgrade, so I felt no problems, I will get a newer version and thats even more outstanding, a new Pro version.
NOPE, I was given the standard version. I typed in my authorization code that was 3 days old to upgrade the version 6 iteration to Pro, and it was rejected. This, I felt, was surely some sort of error, overlooked mistake, easily solved with a call to Customer Support.
First I got the ROYAL runaround. Apple Support told me that while yes, technically they did accept my money and provide my upgrade authorization, that "Apple doesnt really own QT, and they are just providing a service for their customers, by expediting this type of thing."
"The type of thing where I pay $60 and three days later it is declared no longer to apply to what was supposed to be a Pro Upgrade because the new release doesnt recognize the code? This is what you do as a courtesy for me? I want either my money back or an active code to upgrade V7 to Pro"
Apple would do neither. It was their position that they had to obligation here, and if they gave me special treatment *I loved that phrase* then everyone who ever bought QT would always want apple to give them free Pro upgrades.
To make matters worse, QT refused to assist me as well, and took the position that, since I installed the newer version on my Mac, that not only was I NOT entitled to a Pro upgrade of the version released 3 days after I decided to buy it, but they ALSO would not allow me to have a legal copy of the previous version to which my upgrade code would work to raise it to Pro status! Yes, they told me that they had revoked my upgrade code so that it would no longer work even if I wanted to downgrade to version 6, because by installing the "Improved" new version 7, I entered into a contractual obligation which voided any end-user permissions I may have had claim to if I had not allowed my Mac to run its usual weekly upgrades and patches downloads.
If I wanted to pay them another $60 or whatever, I was welcome to a functional copy of an upgrade code for the new version of QT.
I declined.
I was amazed that everything happened the way it did. I got screwed coming and going, by Apple and by Quicktime, and all I wanted to do was to enjoy what I felt was a nice program and which I had reached that moment - you have all felt it - like when shareware works so well you whip out the credit card and give them $20 for unzip or whatever? Well, I had decided this about Quicktime, and they turned around and reamed me. I can say I have never been so fouly treated by a software company, not even Microsoft.
The perfect icing on the cake of course was that my credit card would not stop payment because I told them the truth of the whole thing and they said that if that was the case then I had to right to dispute the charges, the software company may be rude and so forth, but they were clearly within their rights, said my credit card rep.
I paid the card in full and canceled it.

GileasWhile the question was answered long before the excellent post in reply to mine (and following which the thread was locked... I do not see what the need for that was, I was not finished explaining my situation by answering the cogent and first rate questions posed by the reply poster.) There remains the questions that I felt were essential to the issue, not that the software company had a legal right to do what they did, but that by doing so with such disregard for my concerns and my sense of having been treated with total disregard, that what was essentially accomplished was an unresolved animosity toward the way this was handled. To anwer the poster's question 'why did I wait so long to post this?' is to overlook the essence of the whole episode - that being one where after a year of keeping busy, working, vacations, raising kids, etc etc I still feel so poorly treated by the way this was handled that I posted about it at all.
Of course I made a series of errors, of course I could have done a better job of researching what was going to happen, but I also expected the company that I had just paid to act in good faith, and that Apple, who had just collected roughly 3,000$ for my pbook G4 would have tried to resolve the issue in a way that did not alienate me.
I had hoped for a solution where both parties felt they made an effort to compromise and reached a conclusion they could both feel was adequate, rather than feeling alienated, upset and ripped off. -
Logitech quickcam pro 9000 - it was bad, but I made it worse!

I just got the logitech quickcam pro 9000, which is made for windows. I plugged it in, unable to install the windows drivers, and it worked, but was very low quality, and was transmitting very few frames per second.
Since I could not find and mac drivers for this version of this camera, I tired installing the drivers for the quickcam pro 4000. Now my camera seems even worse. When I try to bring it up in Skype it takes so long to load I force quit Skype just to get out of the Skype Preferences, and if I do bother to wait, it gives like one frame per 3 or 4 minutes. I tried uninstalling the quickcam pro 4000 drivers, but nothing seems to have changed.
Does anyone know how I can get it back to normal? (Or even better, closer to what this camera actually has potential for as far as quality?)I pluged it in with out driver and it worked. Both on skype and ichat

Kernal Panic after failed 10.5.8 update. Think I have made things worse!
My daughter clicked the update button without thinking when notified of a 10.5.8 update. 2 hours later the Macbook Intel 12" was still spinning. She cancelled the update, waited for it to close down and went to bed. Next morning Kernal Panic. I have scanned the discussion pages and carried out all suggestions, reset PRAM, single user mode etc but to no effect.
Originally a second hand purchase about 2 years ago, we dont have the original Leopard installation discs nor some of the apps that came with it (CS3), but have plenty of Time Machine backups on an Iomega firewire drive.
So I used my 10.5 MacBook Pro discs and got the Disk Utility going. No disc faults and drive was SMART Verified. Hundreds of permission repairs and still Kernal Panic on restart. Using same discs I tried to Restore system from backup but drive not visible. Using Disk Utility I tried to restore using the manual option and it allowed me to drag the Backupdb file to the source drive. Being thorough I asked it to Erase and Restore.
After 15 min it had read the files, after another 14 it had verified them, then the message Operation Timed Out, could not complete. Now I have a completely wiped MacBook Drive and no way of restoring the data.
Have checked with local Apple dealer, Leopard 10.5 is no longer marketed and Snow Leopard 10.6 will not allow me to restore an earlier System. He suggested I bought a 2nd hand copy off ebay! This sounds like possibly adding to my problems.
Q1 : Can I use Snow Leopard to restore an earlier system from Time Machine on a wiped drive?
Q2 : Can I use a previously registered copy of Leopard legally if original machine scrapped.
Q3 : Could a third party repairer install a copy of 10.5.6 long enough for me to carry out a System Restore from the Time Machine backup.
Q4 : Have I completely wrecked this mac and should I start from scatch with Snow Leopard?
Any suggestions gratefully received. I am afraid to do anything else in case I make recovery even more difficult. Thanks in advance.Had I read of your suggestion before I stupidly wiped the drive I would most certainly have given it a try. It would be my first action if i am ever in this situation again. As it is I have managed to find a resolution myself which i include here for any other folk unfortunate enought to find them selves in a similar position.
My frustration at this problem was made greater by being outbid at the last minute on a copy of Leopard on Ebay. I would never normally buy second hand software and find it incredible that Apple do not continue to sell the original product. If they dropped the price by 20% on recently updated system software they would still have plenty of customers, either in my position or 10.4 non intel users wanting to get up to date.
Anyway in a more considered moment I bought a copy of Snow Leopard on the basis that it is an upgrade to 10.5 not a complete rebuild. Sure enough after chosing the language I had the option of the Utilities menu and the Restore System From Backup option recognised the various Time Machine backups on the firewire drive. 1 hour later it was identical to the pre kernal panic episode.
Suffice to say Software Update had now been deactivated on all my Macs. -
Quit rapid release already. It made Firefox worse since 2011.
OK, ever since this rapid release thing came out, Firefox has only been getting worse and had more problems. On Firefox 32, Flash videos start buffering when you skip through the video (e.g. AMVs from Naruto, Sonic X, Bleach, etc.). Others reported buffering at the 0:14 mark. Good thing ytcrschmidt from the Google Product Forums actually reported this to the Firefox developers. Don't force HTML5 for YouTube videos on Firefox 33 or later, but you can still add 240p, 480p, 1080p, 1440p and 2160p to HTML5, just don't force it, fix the buffering problems with Flash instead for this version, so after Firefox 40, you must stop rapid release. Don't tell me to start Firefox in Safe Mode to "test if the problem occurs".
let's just keep your Flash problem is one thread such as [/questions/1019690] instead of posting duplicates which are frowned upon in most forums.
Google decided to make the HTML5 player default when possible in Firefox after a certain version. It was not Mozilla's doing. -
I have iPhoto v 8.1.2. It's confusing, because it is iPhoto '09. I have tried deleting the plist and reinstalling. Now I cannot get past the dialogue box for the Places option. That means the problem is worse!
I back up regularly with Time Machine, but my biggest concern is retrieving the photos. I can always use Photoshop to work with them. iPhoto is just more convenient.
I appreciate any suggestions anyone has.
Deba better description of the problem and symptons would help - we only know what you tell us adn I have no idea what problem you are having - like what is "the" dialogue box for the places option? If you do not click on places then you should not see anything to do with places. and waht did you reinstall? Deleting the plist does not require any reinstall - it is automatically recreated when you launch iPhoto
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

Update to 4.0.1 made reception WORSE?
so a few weeks back i updated my iphone 3GS from 4.0 to 4.0.1 and my AT&T phone reception appears to have gotten WORSE, much worse. for example, at home i used to get 4 to 5 bars of "3G", now i only get somewhere between 2 to 4 bars of "E." also, i didn't used to have call-drop issues, now the phone drops calls a few times a week, or just hangs when i try to make a call. i never used to have to attempt calls multiple times before connecting. now i do almost every day. did the update screw something up? ***?

I have tried all the solutions apple has offered online. I will not reset my phone to factory settings unless it is a last resort. What is Apple doing to fix this? I had my last Iphone last for more than 2 years and I hve had this one less than a year. My Wifi was greyed out and now it's on but won't connect or locate any networks (but if I keep switching it on and off it will freeze on me again). Does Apple have plans to fix this problem because I refuse to purchase a new phone?
Are there any other new solutions to try in fixing the Wifi that doesn't require freezing or heating up the phone or switching to airplane mode and resetting the network settings as well making sure it's up todate or changing the apostrophe in the phone's name? My phone has never been dropped or damaged. Everyone around the world seems to be having this problem and Apple does not seem to be making a move to fix it? I use this phone for everything and 4g will only last so long before I reach my monthly limit. Cant get into email account all of a sudden. Tried shutting down, deleted account and then opened new account....get into mail....says there are messages but they have no content, cant, delete them or even get into them....help!!! oh and when I go throug HOTMAIL on safari I have no problems

Using an Nvidia GeForce 210 card. I had this same error in Antergos. I think I tried to uninstall nouveau and couldnt get the nvidia driver installed after, so I didnt want to break this system. Any other info needed? I didnt see this error in the troubleshooting section of the install walk-through in the wiki.

3.1.2 Update made things worse, final straw.
After 4 days of perfect quality service, then 8 days of nothing but problem after problem, that's it, I lost it, this is a completely unacceptable level of service from both Apple and O2.
Battery life barely lasting a day, 3G signal constantly dropping no matter location (even sitting on the same park bench I could watch it cycle constantly and drop, watching my battery life draining away, wifi, push, etc all turned off)
O2 says "It's not us, your problem is with the iPhone"
Apple says "We wont even talk to you until 3pm" (Sure, saturdays are busy, I totally understand, but I am NOT waiting 5 hours to talk to a technical advisor, I dont care how trendy you think you are. (this was at 10 am this morning) )
So I marched right back into carphone warehouse, told the guy to skip the usual spiel and just cancel my contract. I was warned about going with O2 by friends but ignored them, stupidly, now i'm stuck with £20 worth of iPhone apps, and a £20 case that Carphone Warehouse would not refund.
I intend to take out an iPhone contract with Vodaphone in January (supposedly when they are releasing). I don't intend to try Orange, I have had a terrible experience with them in the past.
3.1.2 was the final straw, it's ridiculous that they had to release 2 updates within 2 weeks in the first place, let alone neither of them fixing any of the problems I was having, despite restoring the phone several times, cycling the battery, new sim, etc.
If the problems are with the phone itself, hardware or software, I can only hope that they fix it by January, whereas if the problem is with O2s network, then good riddance. What a complete bust.
Anyone who is thinking about taking out a contract, I advise you wait, anyone who still has the ability to cancel without incurring penalty I strongly urge you to do so.
Such a pity, the device itself was the best gadget I ever had, absolutely loved it, but it's a phone first and foremost and i'm certainly not paying £250 up front and £45/month for a phone that only works on GPRS, I can get that for £10/month and no upfront from Virgin (same minutes/texts).I tried absolutely everything but thanks for the suggestions.

Several Hard Resets and more than one restore (from backup)
Replaced the sim.
More hard resets.
Restore without backup (as new phone)
Perfect GPRS reception when I turned 3G off, but honestly, no way I was prepared to pay 45/month for that and hope that the problem was software and not the 3G chip. So I returned it already.
As for booking an appointment ahead of time, I already view Apple and the way they operate as pretentious and aloof, it's a SHOP, I should not need to book an appointment to walk into a shop and talk to an employee, that is not how shops work. I have a faulty product that needs to be replaced, I do not need to book an appointment to have a 'genius' ask me textbook questions before implying I must have tampered with the phone before reluctantly offering me an upgrade.
In any other store a normal sales clerk will do that without making me wait 5 hours, I just get in the queue.
Given the deadline for being locked into the contract was monday, I didnt want to risk waiting till saturday night for a new phone and being given just sunday to test it, because the first phone was fine for four days before giving me problems.

I completely agree, whether the problem is with Apples software, the 3G chip Apple chose to use, or the service providers (or a combination of any of the three) the level of communication and service that a number (i'm not going to make any assumption as to how many, but more than enough to support 100+ page threads of complaints) of customers are recieving a level of service that is totally and utterly unacceptable and something needs to be done.
I was lucky that I could ditch my contract, others were not so lucky and those people are being left with a huge monthly cost for a phone that is essentially, broken 24/7.
I've never been Apples biggest fan, I had a rather dim view of them (and any company that hails the first iteration of a hardware product the way Apple does, first iterations always have problems which is why I waited for the 3Gs, assuming problems would be fixed by then) until I bought an iPod Classic, which has served me incredibly well for nearly 2 years now and is still performing amazingly.
To go from that to the problems i've had with the iPhone 3GS and O2 has destroyed my newfound confidence in Apple, I have returned to intensely disliking them and although I intend to take out a Vodafone iPhone contract, I only intend to do so in order to make use of the money that would be wasted on the case/apps/etc I bought for the iPhone. If that still does not function well in the grace period before being locked into the contract, I will not hesitate to switch to an Android powered phone or one of the new Nokias. -
The entire library is gone and a reinstall made things worse...
For a few days now I have been trying to fix a video playback issue since upgrading to ITunes 7.02. In the process of trying different fixes, the entire library has been lost--my music folder, picture folder, and document folder are empty. I re-installed ITunes and followed the instructions to recreate my library, but it doesn't work. I know, I am an idiot for not having a backup, but I don't. The library has to be on my computer somehwere. Also, the newly installed ITunes now has 6 of each of the playlist folders...90s music, recently added, recently played etc. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Just for a little bump and to add one more thing. I just added a GIG of RAM to my laptop--could this have triggered the problems I am now having?

I purchased a business app in the store and I would like to reinstall it to my Ipad. I see the app icon, but when I click on the icon, I am asked to authorize the computer. After I authorized the computer, I am still unable to reinstall the app. ty
