Open/Close an external file

Hi!
I have a link to an external Excel file in my HTMLDB application.
Clicking on it I do open it (and it's just what I want),
but the problem is that closing the Excel file I goes
out from the HTMLDB application also.
Any ideas about how to return to the application page
from which I opened the file?
Thanks,
Luca

the <input type=file> will pop-up the File Dialog box to select a file. This file can be on the local machine /network only.
in your code, you are pointing a file of client machine and using the sendRedirect you are trying to locate this on the server which is totally illogical.
What do u want to do? You want to upload the client side file to the server and then want to display it?
if it is then,
1) your form tag must look like <FORM name=.... action = ..... method = 'post' type='multipart/formdata' >
to upload any file the form type must be multipart/formdata.
2) write api to read the file from client side as stream and save it on the server.
-------------------------- OR ------------------
use any third party tool like http://www.javazoom.net/jzservlets/uploadbean/uploadbean.html to upload your file.
Tell me if u need more help.

  • How to open and read an external file in Dashboard widget?

    I am new to Dashboard widgets and also Javascript. I have written a widget that needs to open and read a file on the local file system. I have searched a lot and have not found any documentation or reference on the internet as to how to do this.
    I know it can be done since there is a checkbox in the widget attributes that says "Allow External File Access".
    can anyone help me out here?
    Thanks

    You need to define the AllowFileAccessOutsideOfWidget key to Yes.
    You also need to define the AllowFullAccess key.
    You may also need to define the AllowSystem key (to Yes of course).
    Mihalis.
    PS. If you cannot find any other documentation please check http://widgetbook.blogspot.com.

  • Hyperlink in WebI document to open external files

    Hi all,
    I'm creating a WebI 3.0 document in Infoview and would like to know if it is possible to create a hyperlink on a drill down WebI report which will then open external file formats like PDF, TIFF, JPEG or etc. The external files reside outside BOE and they're in another system in DocuFlo.
    If yes, how can we do so? I've tried OpenDoc but got to realize that it doesn't work for external files. Is there a workaround for this?
    Hope my question is not too confusing. Thanks in advance.

    Yes Kuldeep, I could.
    But the situation that I have now is - the object that is carrying the data will open the relevant external document stored on the server.
    e.g. [State] is a dimension in my universe and the data could be US, UK and NY.
    When I activate the drill and click on US, it should open the US document. (http://servername/US.pdf)
    When I click on UK, it should open the UK document (http://servername/UK.pdf)
    My problem now is, when I click on any of the states, it opens the same document (http://servername/US.pdf). I'm running out of idea and solution
    Many many Cheers~

  • In the file menu why can't i open 'close', 'print', 'properties'?

    in the file menu why can't i open 'close', 'print' and properties'?

    I have a document open. I clic print, then i select 'more options' to print a partiel view (or 'active view') of the document. But i want to have it 100%. When i choose the size of the document, if i select 'adjust' the scale is 73%. If a select 'real size' then i have shades at both end so i don't have the entire page. If i choose 'reduce pages to ...' i get a 73% scale and if i select personnalized scale (100%) there is still shades at both end. So what do i change to get a 100% active view? On the late version i never had that problem. Thank you.

  • How to test if an external file is already opened?

    We have an issue when we write to an external file via the DBOpen and DBAdd functions. When we run two jobs simultaneously, they write to the same file. I know we can write to separate files, but we rather not. When the second job begins to do the write, at that point of entry for the second job, that record gets corrupted.
    I'm not sure if it is a DBOpen issue, or DBAdd issue, so I was wanting to try a test to see if the file is already open and bypass the DBOpen if it is. But I don't see anything that will test that other than the DBOpen function itself. When I capture the return code, the result is successful for both jobs. But I"m not wanting to do another DBOpen if the file is already open.
    How do I test for that?

    In the DBOpen call specification, there is a mode parameter which supports combinations of the following:
    * READ
    * WRITE
    * CREATE_IF_NEW
    * FAIL_IF_EXISTS
    You can combine multiple modes with &, so the 2 ^nd^ job should use DBOpen(table,handler,dfd,"WRITE&FAIL_IF_EXISTS") and you can examine the return code accordingly (1 = success, 0 = fail). That said, I don't think this is going to work. If you want to have multiple processes writing to a single file you're probably better off writing the records to a database table which supports this sort of activity. Otherwise you might consider having each job writing to a separate temp file, and then one of the jobs be responsible for reading both temporary files and writing out a 3 ^rd^ file containing all records.

  • How to open an external file in Labview?

    Hi, Who knows how to open an external file in LabView? I want to open an .UDL file(data link API) which is a dialog window letting me input correlated database information, but I dont know how to open this type of file in my LabView Program.
    Thanks.
    Red

    A UDL is technically a text file, so you could open it with "Read Characters from file", put the result string into a string control, edit it and save it back using the "Write Characters to File".
    UDLs however have their own configuration dialog embedded in the Windows OS. You can use this dialog in your LabVIEW application. The attached VI shows how to create a new UDL. You can edit an existing UDL by switching the method node to PromptEdit and wiring in an open ADO connection reference.

  • Open external files

    I`ve been doing some research for a while, but haven`t found any solution for opening external files in my java app.
    Short about my problem:
    I`m giving users of the program the opportuninty to upload different kind of files. When a file is uploaded a label with the filename appears in the screen. When they click on the label I want my program to launch the correct program... Acrobat Reader for .PDF, Paint for jpg,gif.... aso.
    I found something similar that launch the cmd.exe, but it isn`t a general solution that opens all kinds of files...

    As mentioned above I haven`t, so far, found a reliable solution for the problem, and I would have apprecated any kind of help.

  • External files opening behind the projector

    I have used 'baOpenFile' function to open some external files
    (pdf, pps etc). In most computers everything works great, but in
    some computers the file opens behind the projector (which is in
    full screen mode), and user doesn't see that the file has opened.
    To solve this problem I have used
    'baWindowToBack(baWinHandle())' to send the projector window back
    before the external file opens. It works, but it's ugly solution
    (especially if there's many windows open on desktop). Does anyone
    know why external files open behind the projector, and is there a
    better way to fix the problem than the one that I've used?

    Instead of sending the Director window to the back, it may be
    better to
    bring the new window to the front. That will bypass the issue
    of other
    windows appearing over the Director window.
    I do not know why this happens, and I have seen it in action
    many times
    myself. It is annoying, but easily worked around.

  • Opening external files

    Hello, im starting in flash, and i want to open external
    files with buttons, for a cd menu that i'm creating. I have created
    an fscommand folder and a launcher.bat that execute the file that i
    want when i press the button. But what i really want is to execut a
    file whatever it name is. For example i want to execute a .pdf file
    whitout calling it by the name to give me the chance to use de cd
    menu with various cds. Can anyoune help me with the code to the
    launcher.bat file? I have tryed start *.pdf but it didn't work.
    Thank you.

    does it have to be through a url, can't it be trough a path,
    like C:\file.rar or something like that? it's because the computer
    where i'm going to do the presentation does not have internet, so
    that way won't help me much

    hi,
    this is what i use on a win2000 platform:
    try {
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process p = rt.exec("cmd /c start yourFile.ext");
    } catch(Exception e) {
    System.out.println(e);
    it is possible that a full path of the file is required.

  • Opening External Files using SWF

    Hi all,
    Is there a way to open external files using swf? I have gone
    through a number of forums and all seem to tell me to open with a
    window projector. my problem is, I need to embed the swf into a
    html to be viewed online... So I need to do it in swf format.
    Any ideas?

    When you say 'external files' I presume you mean local files
    on the users hard drive.
    If that's true:
    When you say 'open' what do you mean? It could mean to open
    and load a text file/xml file or another swf in flash or it could
    mean to launch a document in its native application e.g. .doc
    launches word etc. Flash projectors can do the first thing, but not
    the second thing. And you need to know the path of the file because
    I don't believe you can retreive it from the filereference browsing
    support. 3rd party tools are necessary to really add a lot of file
    system support to projector applications, and then you can do both
    things mentioned here, without the limitations of flash player
    security which is only slightly reduced with regular projector
    files.
    The filereference class in flash is primarily for
    upload/download support. You can't 'open' local files with it.
    There is, to my current knowledge, no way you can do that with
    flash in a html page directly.
    The only way I can think that it might be possible (untested)
    would be to have a separate local MS Office (or any other host for
    a flash activex that gives filesystem access) with some embedded
    flash in a document that (perhaps) could talk via local connection
    with your html page content and which would in turn talk to its VBA
    host to request local file system activity. I don't know if this
    would work because I've not used localconnection, but perhaps it
    might.
