Open MXML component + button click

Hi,
I have an MXML component within my Flex 2 Application, and
within this component I have a button which when clicked, I want to
"go / link to" (open) another MXML component.... e.g.:
<mx:Application.......>
<mx:panel............>
<mx:button label="open other page" click="open the other
MXML component etc..."/>
</mx:panel>
</mx:Application>
Additionally I want to be able to pass a variable (on the
same button click) to the component that is being opened on the
button click, and use this variable within the second
component......
Could anyone suggest the best method of going about this?

In general all of the components of an application are
created at start up. You then use view states and navigation
containers to display the component when needed. If you want to
create a component then check out this subject 'Creating deferred
components' in the docs. Primarily you worry about deferred
creation of objects if you want to reduce the file size of your
swf. View states would be one way to handle the display of the
components.

Flash Component Button click not working

I've gone back to an old project to change some logos around,
and my flash component buttons no longer work. They appear on
stage, but the click event is not happening. I authored on XP, now
on Vista. Director 10.1. Any idea what is happening?

If you are adding those buttons now, check for each button
the Flash
component tab in the property inspector and make sure the
eventPassMode
(lowest option) is set to #passAllways.

Trouble with opening url on button click

I have a project that has a button that needs to go to a url
when i click it and it doesnt. I read the topic posted in the forum
with the same problem...and i had already tried that....it still
doesnt work...it work well when i preview it but when i publish
it...it doesnt work..the url takes to a page containing a pdf
file...the project is about 10 min long and has a size of 97MB...i
built on a mac with a windows virtual machine...i guess that should
not be a problem.

The fact you built the project on a Mac running a Windows
Virtual Machine should not factor in. From Captivate's view, it was
running in Windows.
What happens when you click the link? Nothing, or does a
browser window open and attempt to display the contents but it's
blank?
I know you said it doesn't work when published. But where are
you running the published file from? Your local PC or from a web
site or a network drive?
And lastly, you said you “read the topic posted in the
forum with the same problem...and i had already tried that....it
still doesnt work...”. Without a link to see which of the
many “other topics“ you may be referring to here, it's
impossible to know what was attempted.

Show a custom component on button click in a view stack`

Hello folks
I have a view stack in which i have some custom components.
Now there is one custom component in which there is one button. On the button click, i want to show another custom component but i dont know how to do it. Should i write the inline mxml click event in custom component?? If yes then how??
Currently i am doing it as
click="{customcomponent}"

As you know, ViewStack has containers, lilke VBox for its views.
Assuming one of your views VBox has an id of myVBox, and that VBox has the Button that when clicked will display the component, just have the component in the view already, but you can make it invisible with visible=false and includeInLayout=false, and then upon button click set those two variables to true.
You will probably want a show handler for the view VBox to make those properties false each time that view is displayed.
Here is some simple sample code.

I just updated to Firefox 17.0.1 and now I can't click on a bookmark to open it or open new tab when clicking new tab button.

In FF 17.0.1 I have several bugs to mention. I am only able to open bookmarks by right clicking them and selecting Open In New Tab from the drop down menu. I am unable to open a new tab by clicking on the new tab button or by clicking open new tab from the FF drop down menu at top of browser. Also, none button work in FF, such as Home, Back, Forward, or refresh. This is so aggravating!!

After I posted this, I restarted with add ons disabled and it worked..deleted a cpl of addons for compatibility checking and that fixed it.

But disclosed property is to make the showdetail to disclose or not.. but requirement is to open panel accordion on button click
By default using panel accordion have arrow icon in left to open in a same way if i open the second one, first will get close automatically...
Actually is there any way to do the default process (open/close) programmatically...

Open Dialog box on button click using Visual Webpart

I am trying to create New Item,Edit Item & Delete Item button in Visual web part.On clicking on the button it should open the corresponding custom form on dialogue box.I don't want to create any button in the ribbon.I just want to create UI page for
all buttons and also corresponding input forms on button click in Visual web part.
Is it possible through visual web part?
I will be needing your initial guidance to achieve this.

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to open modal dialog in a visual web part.
To open a modal dialog, there are multiple ways, such as using JavaScript.

The content of the Share menu will depend on the file format. For PDFs the menu will be nearly empty and iPhoto and aperture are missing.

Open a report from button click/javascript

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a way to call a report from a button click? Or through javascript? I set the report to Display Results > Link - within the dashboard and then did a view source on it and found the function that calls the report from the hyperlink.

So i have been trying out a few things and the following url works to open the default view of the request:

I just replaced 'Dashboard' in the code provided with the 'Go' and it started to work :)
What i need to do though is have this work for the session variables set up on the dashboard. I have 7 prompts which a user can use to filter a request. Each is assigned to a session variable that is used to call a stored procedure. Originally i thought that by setting the variables and then calling the report from the url that the session variable values i set would be used in the request. What seems to be happening is that the variables get set and then, on calling the url, they are reset to the defaults and the report is run.
Any help in solving this would be very much appreciated

What happens when you try? Does double clicking the ?home button bring up the Task Bar of recently used apps? If so what happens when you flick up on the preview screen for the app you want to close?
To quit an app double click the Home button to reveal the row of recently used apps. Flick up on the page preview and it will fly away and disappear. That quits the app.

Double-tap on the Home button. You will see a preview of the app above the actual icon. Slide the preview up to kill it.

Can't open an Executable From Click Button

Hi, Everyone!
I've broken a learning module into several small project
files to match the client's standards. I've set up click buttons
within each file to open each of the published movies for the
module. Everything works as expected.
Now I need to create a standalone course using the same
files. I've published each file as a Standalone executable. I've
modified the open action on the click buttons to "Open URL or File"
and selected the appropriate .exe file as the target. I've
republished the files with the new click action. When I open an
executable and click a button to open another executable, I get an
error message stating that the page cannot be displayed.
What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help?

For starters, did you try simply exporting all related files
as .EXE files and test that way before making any changes? If so,
what were your results? I've seen before where once Captivate was
successfully linking to another movie, simply changing from .SWF to
.EXE format just worked.

Opening new window on button click from pdf without loosing session

In my Java web applicaion on click of a link, we are opening a new window in which we are displaying a pdf. There are 5 buttons on this pdf.
On clicking of this button again we are opening a application link in new window. But in this window we are not gettting our session, which is there in first two window.
For opening new window from pdf button click we are using
var dynamicUrl3 = myappurl;
app.launchURL(dynamicUrl, true);
How can i open new window with the same sesion from the pdf button.
Please help for the same.

Yes, with target="_blank" in a link or a form.Thanks for ur valuable suggestion. I changed the button to link.
Its working fine now without JavaScript.
Now i got another requirement. When user select some items and press a button in the new popup window, the window must close on button click and the parent window must refresh. This must also be done without using JavaScript.
Is this possible? Please give me an idea to do this.
