Opening projects from older Premiere versions in CS5.5 ?

Hello!
I'm trying to help my wife, who's using Premiere Pro CS5.5.
She edited a movie in an old version of Premiere. We have all the files from the project, but no longer have access to the machine she edited on. We are about 95% sure that it was edited on Premiere Pro 2.0 for Windows. (It might have been on a slightly older Windows version).
We've just installed Premiere Pro CS5.5 on her computer. We're having a number of problems importing the file. Some of them we're solving quickly, some of them a little less so. I wanted to check on the forum to check a couple of things:
1) Just to be sure: Is Premiere Pro CS5.5 for Windows supposed to be able to work with projects from Premiere Pro 2.0? From older versions? Is there an easy way to figure out what version of Premiere the project file was created in?
2) Is there any sort of FAQ or anything we might consult about issues that typically come up when importing from older versions of Premiere?
We are sort of puzzling though this together. I'm usually the computer problem-solving guy around the house, but I don't know anything about Premiere...
Any help would be very much appreciated!

Yes, Premiere Pro CS5.5 can open projects created in any previous version of Premiere Pro (and version 6.x of Adobe Premiere).
Great to know!
If you bring specific issues to this forum as they arise, we may be able to help.
Okay. We'll play around a bit on our own, and I'll see if we can summarize problems we can't figure out.
I don't suppose there's any sort of FAQ about common problems in importing from old versions or anything?

  • How to open project from an earlier version (RH x3) using RoboHelp 6.

Hello everyone, I need your help. I have recently upgraded
from RH x3 to RH V6. I have just completed the installation of RH6
after spending long time with Adobe customer support as it took
them long time to figure out how to provide me the unlocking key to
    install RH v6.
BTW I have only installed RoboHelp 6 by itself. I did not
install their Source Control because we already have Visual Source
Safe which we have been using in our company.
Also, since I had Adobe Reader 8 installed on my PC, I did
not install Acrobat Element 7 either. As I suppose if Acrobat 7 or
higher is installed RH v6 was not going to install Acrobat Element
    7.
Well, now after I have installed RH v6, my first step is to
find out how to open project from an earlier version (RH x3) using
    RoboHelp 6.
RH x3 is installed on my old PC and I am working on my new PC
where I have installed RH V6.
Sorry, for providing you too many details, the purpose is
only to give you a clear picture.
Please, give me your feedback if I am doing everything
correct and how should I open the project from an earlier version.
    Thanks

    Hi Peter,
Thank you so much for the response. Actually, after I posted
the question on Forum we had lost internet connection for some time
and I just went ahead and tried it by myself.
This is what I did – since we use MS Visual Source
Safe, my all files were in the working folder of VSS in my c drive.
I just clicked the Open tab/More Files in RoboHelp Starter and
located the RoboHelp HTML Project File. It opened without any
    problem. Everything looks alright.
Is there anything specific I should be checking to make sure
if it is working fine in this version of RH. Because I did not
create this project, somebody else did and I have never used this
tool before this is the first time I will be using.
I found your site pretty helpful though and it did have some
information about Source Safe. I still have one question related to
Visual Source Safe that Is RoboHelp v6 linked to VSS automatically
and check the files out from it automatically whenever a project is
opened or we have to manually set the link between the RH6 &
    VSS.
In RH x3 whenever I would open a project it would prompt a
message that in order to open this project the following files need
to be writable, would you like to make them writable, selecting
that option would checkout all the files from the VSS to make them
writable. However, in RH V6 I opened an existing project and it
opened without checking out the project files from VSS. Do you have
    any idea what’s happening?
Ps: Do you recommend any book on RH 6 for starters or any
    other recommendation?
    Your help is always appreciated

  • Trouble opening project from Adobe Premiere Production Studio 2.0 in CS 5.5

Have almost finished editing a project in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 when computer died - have upgraded computer and software to cs 5.5 and told over phone by Adobe that will be able to open current file saved in 2.0 in CS 5.5. no problems....
BUT...it's not working! Comes up with an error message saying it needs to be converted first and opens but there is nothing in the timeline and is asking to locate all the individual files, only to tell me they can't be used....!
Anybody have any advice on this...?
Sorry for the long winded question!!
    Thanks
    G

    Welcome to the forum.
While Opening, or Importing older Projects into newer versions of PrPro is usually possible, there can be issues.
First, when you have Opened the PrPro 2.0 Project, and allowed it to be converted, you will be prompted to Save that as a new Project Name. That is what you want to do.
Next, when that converted Project Opens, twirl open the Bins, to find the Sequence, and Dbl-click that, to get it to display.
As for the location of the files, since you are now on a new computer, it is very likely that the Path to the Assets has changed, and probably due to the drive letter - those Paths are absolute, so much be exact in all cases. When asked "Where is file ____ ?" use the Finder to locate that, in its new location, and select it. PrPro will then look in that folder for all other necessary Assets, and will automatically link to them, as well. If the Assets are in separate folders/sub-folder, you will have to repeat that first step for each folder/sub-folder. Then, so long as the Paths to the Assets, or the Assets themselves, are not changed, all should be fine. At this point, I would do a Save_As, incrementing the Project's Name.
    Good luck,

  • Can't open project. Same Premiere version.

Installed Premiere Pro CC at home doesn't open a project created at the office because "saved with a newest version", but the version is the same! Any suggestions?

You better check the version in About Adobe Premiere Pro at work and at home to be sure.
Its very easy to make a mistake as the icons are the same.

  • JDeveloper 11.1.2.3 hangs when opening project from JDeveloper 11.1.1.6

Hello! I have a problem here which I can't solve. I also asked this question here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14365031/jdeveloper-11-1-2-3-hangs-when-opening-project-from-jdeveloper-11-1-1-6/14369211#14369211 . The whole story in short. I have a JavaEE client-server project in JDeveloper 11.1.1.6, where it works like a charm. Recently I had to upgrade JDeveloper version to the latest 11.1.2.3. The first problem was that the standard procedure of migrating project from the older version of JDeveloper to the newer one did not help: IDE was hanging forever all the time with no apparent (for me) reason, log file was silent about that. Then I tried another way: I just created the same project from the beginning and put there all necessary source files, libraries, set project properties etc. Still nothing, but now found the way to obtain a kind of error at least. I ran C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdeveloper\jdev\bin\jdev.exe from the command line and got the following (e.g. when I started running debug):
    Jan 16, 2013 8:52:09 PM oracle.ideimpl.runner.StarterFactoryDescriptionImpl logError
SEVERE: Incorrect hash-structure value in starter-factory definition
    Jan 16, 2013 8:52:10 PM oracle.ideimpl.runner.StarterFactoryDescriptionImpl logError
SEVERE: Incorrect hash-structure value in starter-factory definition
But I don't know what could be the next step... Could anyone help me? Thanks in advance for your attention!

    Hi,
not sure if you have a support contract or work for Oracle. In both cases the best option is to file a bug (service request)

  • Can I transfer a project from the trial version of Final Cut Pro X to the Full version

Can I transfer a project from the trial version of Final Cut Pro X to the Full version which I have now downloaded.

The trial version is named "Final Cut Pro Trial" and the App Store version is called "Final Cut Pro".
So, they can both be in the Applications folder at the same time, but only one can be open/launched at a time.
If, for some reason, your trial is older (like version 10.0.4) that your newly purchased FCPX (should be 10.0.5), and you do not click Update to your events/Projects, they will NOT show in the bought version!
Open the licensed FCPX and make sure it does update your things, in case it asks for it!

  • Need Help Import Project from Adobe Premiere CS6 TO FCPX

Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to export a project from Adobe Premiere CS6 to FCPX.
    Many Thanks,
    Mat

I am trying to transfer a movie project I made on my work computer (MacBook Pro, iMovie '08) to my home computer (iMovie HD, iBook). I've transferred the files using a Lacie, but when I open iMovie HD on my personal computer, it does not let me open the project I desire.
As you have already found, iMovie '08 projects, as such, are not backwards compatible with previous versions of iMovie. iMovie '08's project basically consists of a list of instructions detailing how a project is to be exported while previous versions of iMovie actually rendered physical file segments ordered properly in a physical timeline reference file.
I can import, but not the whole file, it keeps putting items in the trash. I have exported Mobile, Medium, and Large files.
Basically you have two options. You can either import your raw footage (the Event clips) and "re-create" a project in iMovie HD or export your iMovie '08 project, complete with edits to an HD compatible format (e.g., DV or AIC/AIFF) and import this file into iMovie HD. Unfortunately, this latter approach will not allow you to "manipulate" your previous edits.
Basically, I want to be able to open the file in iMovie, in case I wanted to duplicate it or edit it.
As indicated above, you can import iMovie '08 shared/exported files to iMovie HD but you then have to edit them as source files. To remove a previous edit, you would literally have to delete it from your new project in order to add another.
I also want to be able to continue burning copies of this movie slideshow to DVD (I created a DVD project using iDVD).
Previously authored and burned DVDs can be copy-burned by applications like Toast or used to create stored "image" files that can be used to burn new DVDs on an as needed basis in the Mac OS "Burn" folder or using the Disk Utility application. In fact the "image" file can also be created for this purpose from within iDVD.

  • Can't open project from DB

I am about ready to throw this machine out the window!! I
have installed Robohelp X5 and updated to 5.0.2. I also installed a
VCS patch since RH doesn't like to play nice with PVCS. I can open
projects from local drives just fine, but when I try to open a
project from our database, I get this: "Unknown exception error,
please contact ..." This occurs after I select my location to store
files and click OK. I know my username and password are good
because other users can open projects on their machines using my
login info. I cannot open any projects using anybody else's info
either. This is the second box that I've had this occur, I actually
requested a new one to see if it would work on a different machine
and the exact same thing happens. So, I would greatly appreciate
    any help with this!

Thanks for the reply. Let me give you some more details. Oh
and I'm not using PVCS for VC with Robohelp, but I do have it
installed on my machine for other projects.
What I am doing is trying to open the project through
RoboSource Control. Once in RoboHelp HTML I select the Open from
RoboSource option from the Open Project dialog box, and it prompts
me to enter the server and DB name, with my username and password.
After that, it accesses the project and asks me to select a
location to store the files on my local drive. Once I do that and
click OK to proceed, I get the error. What SHOUILD happen is it
should copy the files to the specified location on my local drive
and allow me to then open the project, but I can't get that far.
It's very frustrating, especially since everyone else can do it but
    me.

  • I am trying out Final Cut Pro X and trying desperately to import a project from iMovie 11 (version 9.0.9). There is no export to FCPX in iMovie 11 nor is there import from iMovie in FCPX.

    Can someone please help me?
I am trying out Final Cut Pro X on a 30 day trial. So far so good.
I am now trying desperately to import a project from iMovie 11 (version 9.0.9) into FCPX.
I have read multiple posts on this subject and they all recommend File/import/ from iMovie project in FCPX
However there is NO such option under File/import in FCPX - nor is there an option to export to FCPX in iMovie 11
    Can anyone please enlighten me.

The current version of FCPX does not work with that version of iMovie. You need version 10.0.3, which allows you to send a project to FCP.

  • Premiere on Windows wont open Project from Mac

It says "could'nt open Project because it was created with a newer Version of Premiere" although I have Adobe Premiere Pro CC (2014) on both, my Mac and my PC.
The project is saved on a hard drive formatted in HFS+ but I have a driver installed on my PC which can read an write on it.
    best regards
    David

check the version in help on both computers, one might be using a newer version. they changed project formats in 2014.1 (8.1 i think), the current version is 8.2.0

  • Can't import project from older version

I can't import project into a newer version of final cut as the project is whited out.and when i do get around it the error says:
The document "CurrentVersion.fcpevent" could not be opened Final cut pro cannot open files in the "final cut pro event" format.
I'm working in 10.0 and trying to open on another computer in 10.1.4
    Any ideas would be great.
    thanks

10.0 and 10.1.4 are very different, but in neither of the the procedure included "opening" such files.
In 10.0, you simply let the content be in the designated locations and the program would find it.
In 10.1 and beyond, projects and events reside in libraries, which are now like regular FCP X "documents" thare are opened and closed in the common way documents usually are.
To use older material, you need to update it. This is done by letting the stuff in its original locations, starting FCP X and doing File->Update Projects and Events... This creates a new library with your old material.

  • Importing project from Pro 1.5 to CS5

I just purchased an iMac. Loaded CS5, but could not import a project I worked hard on Adobe Premier Pro 1.5. I get an error message that reads "This project was saved in a version prior to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and cannot be opened on a Mac."
Can anyone give me advise as to how best I can import my old projects?
    Regards,
    Ban

    GLenn,
Good work, and there will be something extra in your Adobe payroll envelope.
The problem with the PrPro 1.5 to CS5 Mac, is that there was no PrPro 1.5 Mac version. With older Pr versions, say 6.5, there is not a platform limitation. Older (pre Pro) Mac Projects work fine in my PC. With the Pro introduction, PrPro 1.0/Pr 7.0/PrPro 7.0 (rather an anomaly), Mac support was stopped, until CS3. This created a gap, with ONLY PC versions, and no Mac compatibility. As Harm and GLenn pointed out, the only workflow is to take the older PRPROJ file (created on a PC), and Improt/Open - Save (essentially Converting it) in version CS3 on the PC, and that will allow a Mac to use the PRPROJ file.
This is when it pays to have friends on PC's, running PrPRo, so that they can do the Conversion for you. Baring that, then it's great to have folk, like GLenn, on the forum, who will do it for you. It's simple, so long as there is a PC, running CS3, or later, to get those Projects into a format/version, that the Mac can read. Time for some "bi-partisan" cooperation.
Glad that you got it to work, and happy editing.
    Hunt
PS - one little caveat: There are differences in the Effects & Transitions, between the platforms, so a Project that was created in PrPro 1.5 (or 1.0, or 2.0), might have Effects, or Transitions, that do not exist on the Mac. Also, if one had 3rd party Effects or Transitions on the older PC, then those might show as missing, when the Project Opens on the Mac. In most cases, PrPro is very good at pointing out the exact location, and more details, where those appear. One can then just make note of the location, and go there to replace the missing Effect, or Transition, with one that does exist on the Mac. For me, going from Mac to PC, this process has been perfect, but I cannot say that it would be in all cases going from PC to Mac.
