Opening two sessions of Indesign

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to open two sessions of InDesign CS at the same time. Working with dual monitors. Thanks.

I know that is possible and am using that as an alternative at the moment, but in some cases would be easier to just open two sessions the way you can with Excel. Thanks for your assistance.

  • Firefox just updated to 5.0.1 when it opens it opens two tabs, one a restore session tab and the other Firefox home tab. Nothing appears in the restore tab and everything freezes. Only way to get out is to ctrl, alt, del.

    After updating to Firefox 5.0.1 and trying to open Firefox, it opens two tabs. One is the restore session tab and the other is the Firefox home tab. Nothing opens in the session restore tab and once the Firefox home tab loads the browser screen freezes with no crash ID's listed. The only way to get out is thru the task manager and ending the process. Firefox worked fine before updating.

    Try typing ''about:home'' into the address bar. Is that the page you are looking for? If so, go to ''Tools > Options > General'' and save it as your homepage. If that home page doesn't show up the next time you start Firefox, you should look at [[Preferences are not saved]].

    A day or two ago I went through installing Adobe InDesign CS4 on Leopard OS X.5.8.  After what appears to be a successful installati

    rd drive externally connected to this computer running Snow Leopard OS X.6.1 for the error reading: "Damaged &/or incomplete install
    ation" when launching afterwards.  The support technician told me to first delete with the uninstall Adobe InDesign CS4, InDesign.
    Following this I am told to run the CS4 Cleanup Utility.  I restart the computer each and every time after running each of the utili
    ties.  Now I am told to install InDesign as a trial version from the DVD and after installation to go ahead & enter the serial numbe
    r.  When launching InDesign CS4 after installation got back the same error as before: "You can't open the application "Adobe InDesig
    n CS4" because it is not supported on this architecture" comes up".  Followed KB404711 article and no success.  What else can be don

    In the application folder there is a folder 'Adobe InDesign CS4' within which there is just the application file. I would expect there should be more file there??
    I've un-installed and installed again - still the same.
    Even downloaded the dmg again and done thwe whole thing over again.

  • How to open multiple sessions for one user?

    Sorry for the silly question but I couldn't find it googling or searching through this forum, so I started wondering whether it's possible in SQL Developer to open multiple sessions for one user. I'm fairly new to SQL Developer and databases in general.
    When I open SQL Developer and connect to a schema, a worksheet opens named MYSCHEMA. If I disconnect then connect, another worksheet opens, named MYSCHEMA~1. I assumed these were different sessions, but if I enter into one worksheet:
    select col1 from my_table where row_id = 1
    -- shows result is 1
    update my_table set col1 = 0 where row_id = 1
    select col1 from my_table where row_id = 1
    -- shows result is 0and then enter into the second worksheet:
    select col1 from my_table where row_id = 1
    -- shows result is 0I would have expected the second worksheet to report 1 because the first worksheet did not issue a COMMIT. Thus, I'd guess both worksheets are the same session? Is that right? If so, how do I have two sessions open simultaneously (opened by same user)?

    Ctrl-Shift-N doesn't do anything for me. I'm on a mac -- by experimenting it looks like command-N does what you're looking for. This appears to be the same as left-clicking on the "New" icon in the top left corner of SQL Developer, or selecting from the pull-down menu, File > New.
    This opens "Create a New" window that appears to be a wizard. What would I select at this point? Options are: Database Connection, Table, View, Package, ...
    I don't see an option for "Worksheet".
    UPDATE:
    OK, I found that if I select "SQL File", a worksheet becomes available. Perhaps this is what you intended. However, when I issue the command
    select col1 from my_table where row_id = 1;it still returns 0 instead of 1. Hmm, maybe my initial assumption was wrong -- if this is a second (e.g. different) session, should I expect the changes made in the first session in SQL Developer (the UPDATE command) WITHOUT a commit, to be observed in this second session? I thought that changes made in one session were not viewable in a different session until these changes are committed in the first session? If so, how to show this in SQL Developer? I must be missing something basic here.
    Or, is SQL Developer issuing some sort of "auto-commit" without my knowledge?

Whenever you get stuck in a customer-service situation that goes nowhere, as soon as you become aware of the futility, get the name and employee ID of the person, then say, "I don't mean to be rude, I think we're both wasting our time.   • Cannot open .p65 files in InDesign

    When I try to open .p65 files I ge the error "Cannot open file "...". Adobe Indesign may not support the fle format, a plugun that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application." I had no problem opening .p65 files on my other desktop. It simply opened, and converted them automatically. Please help. Thanks.

    I tested two p.65 files (one created on a Mac, another on a Windows machine) and one .pmd file (created on Windows PageMaker 7):
    all three opened without problems in InDesign CS3
    none opened in InDesign CC (same error message you mentioned)
    Unfortunately, I had recently uninstalled the ID CS6 version from my system; otherwise, I could've tested which behavior occurred in the previous version.

    When I open some products (Indesgin for example) in a session without admin permission, it doesn't work. All is well y I open the software in a admin session but I don't like to use admin session normally, only for instalations.
    It's not so safe to work continously in an admin session, and I don't want to do it.

  • Whether two session with for update at the same time will wait for another?

    Will this scenario happen?
    One session executes: select ... for update/select ... for update nowait
    The other session also executes: select ... for update/select ... for update nowait
    Two sessions happens at the same time unluckily. Whether they will all stand by because of "for update" or quit immediately because of "nowait"?

    A deadlock is when sesson-A has a lock on something that session-B needs in order to continue, and at the same time, session-B has a lock on something that Session-A needs in order to continue. They BOTH have something the other needs.
    In the OP's case, at least as he described it, it is simple serialization. The one with the lower scn will go, then the next.

    Why don't you try? You can setup a small table with some records, open 2 sessions to the same database and for example issue UPDATE statements:
    session 1: update where id=1
    session 2: update where id=2
    session 1: update where id=2 - this will hang waiting for session 2 to commit and free lock
    session 2: update where id=1 - ORA-00060
    You may also read about deadlocks in chapter on "Data Concurency and Consistency" of "Oracle Concepts'.

  • Why does FF open two windows when I open it? Why can't I close the second window without closing FF altogether?

    After FF automatically updated it started opening two windows whenever I start FF. One window has the open tabs from my previous session and the other window has only the FF home page open in one tab, nothing else. I can't close either window without shutting FF down altogether. I have limited RAM (3GB), running Mac Lion, which eats up a lot of resources and now FF eats up the rest. It's a real pain in the ass.

    It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Open VISA sessions (including duplicates​)

    I would like to obtain a list of open visa sessions. I found this knowledge base article which should work, however when opening duplicate sessions (e.g. "COM6 (1)") the list contains empty entries or multiple COM1 references.
    Please try the attached vi to see the effect; on my system the visa resource name control shows COM1 & COM2 (default system ports), COM6 & COM12 (2 USB-serial converters) and LPT1 (system parallel port) at start up.
    This is shown after opening "COM6" (3x) > opening "COM12" (4x) > opening "COM1" (1x) > closing "COM12" and "COM12 (1)"
    Maybe there is a way to read the contents of the drop down menu of the VISA resource control which contains all the information and is also updated automatically.

    First I'll explain the duplication: the "VISA open" VI allows for opening a duplicate session (which refers to the same port). I want to use this so I can have a separate session for writing and reading which can be locked and unlocked separately. The example I attached to my original post opens duplicate sessions when you (try to) open the same port ("COM1" for example) multiple times. 
    Could you please try the example again selecting "COM1" as "VISA resource name", then click "Open" two times. Now you should see "COM1" and "COM1 (1)" in both lists. On my system clicking "Close" (while "COM1" is still selected) removes "COM1 (1)" from the "open sessions found" list while it should remove "COM1".
    MAX lists ports 1, 2, 6 & 12 that I mentioned in my original post. When running the example this list does not change (no "COM1 (1)" for example) so I think this is just a list of physical ports, not the open VISA sessions.

    Can you ping the SERVERNAME from the machine you are trying to add the RemoteApp host from?  You may have to enable the rule "File and Print Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPv4-In)" on the inbound firewall on the server you are pinging.  Does the name
    resolve correctly?
    I received that error when I had an issue with the network.

  • Mail opens two Safari windows when I click on a link in email

    When I click on a link in Mail, it opens in Safari -- that's the way I have it setup. Yet, the problem is that it opens two windows in Safari, one empty and one with the content of the link.
    This is the second problem I have with Mail. The second one was posted to this discussion but it was not resolved. I repeat here the text of the problem:
    I've been having a problem with mail for a while, when sending attached JPEGs from my Mac using Mail or Entourage. The photos are split -- say a 140 kb file will show up in my two other computers (both Windows PCs) as two files, one 65 kb and the other 75 kb, for example.
    Yet, when I click on Mail's (in my Mac) sent folder and click on the particular sent email, it shows a full blown 140 kb attachment, not split.
    Several weeks ago, my Mac Address book got cranky and for some reason it would repeat the name of an addressee. I finally deleted the name of that addressee and created a new entry and it seemed to work, so it did not split JPEGs -- or at least I thought that was the case.
    Now it is back splitting the JPEGs but this time, the addressee's name is well formatted -- no repeats within the entries in the card in Address Book.
    When I mail something from my Windows PCs and open it in my Mac, the file is complete.
    What could be causing this split?
