Optimizer Setup

Hi,
Our Solution Manager system is dual stack (ABAP + JAVA) , Unicode.
I upgraded Kernel at ABAP level and imported Support Packages SP10 and finally completed Optimizer setup and it is working fine.
But, I forgot about  Kernel patch Upgrade, Support Packages at java level.
Does this will make any issues? Shall I can upgrade kernel , import SP10 for java side now??
Regards
Srinivas

After reading through some other threads I picked up that you need to activate report SM_PREP_MAINTENANCE_OPTIMIZER and then run it if you are on SP11.
If note 990534 had mentioned this it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration but instead it just says you can no longer implement this note as of ST-400 SP11 which is not really correct because you still need to run the report.

    Dear All,
Can I have a document or an implementation guide for PPDS Optimizer Setup Matrix?
I have already checked the SAP help and Certification Material about this topic. But there is no more information on this topic. It will be great if you provide a document where I can learn from the scratch.

  • Solman setup maintenance optimizer

    Hi all,
I'm trying to setup my Solman Maintenance Optimizer to download SP.
When I read the configuration guide. It says the prerequisite is as below :-
The Maintenance Optimizer contains a lot of scenarios for maintenence procedures. The scenarios have different prerequisites.
    Basic Prerequisites
       1.
You have configured the Maintenance Optimizer in the SAP Solution Manager customizing.
You must perform the following customizing activities for the Maintenance Optimizer:
Assign S users for the SAP Support Portal.
This activity specifies the S users (user ID for the SAP Service Marketplace) assigned to user IDs for the SAP Solution Manager.
For more information see S Users in the Maintenance Optimizer.
Enter user for communication with SAP Service and Support systems
    2. This activity specifies the RFC connection SAP-OSS and the corresponding RFC user.
    3.     You have assigned product versions to the system to be maintained, in the system landscape.
You have assigned the systems to be maintained to a logical component.
          Note Note
If you want to use a solution, you must assign the systems to be maintained, to the solution landscape. For more information, see Solution Manager System Landscape.
          End of the note.
       4.
You have installed the Download Manager locally in your workplace. The Download Manager is in the SAP Software Distribution Center in the SAP Support Portal.
          Note Note
    The item no2.
This activity specifies the RFC connection SAP-OSS and the corresponding RFC user.  <---- Is this mean I must have install and setup my Saprouter so that the SAP OSS connection is working before I can completed the SAP Solman Maintenance Optimizer setup?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Just clarify my question.
I would like to run tcode "Solman_setup" to activate my Maintenance Optimizer for my new install SOLMAN & ECC6 System.
The reason is I need to download service pack for my ECC6 system.
Now I have some confusion on the "Solman_Setup" prerequisites
    Prerequisites
You have installed the SAP Solution Manager and satisfied the following configuration prerequisites:
      1)   The license key is installed.  -
    >OK
      2)   The profile parameter /ICM_HOST_NAME_FULL or SAPLOCALHOSTFULL is set----
    >OK
      3)   The Transport Management System (TMS) is configured. -
    > Not sure, Is this mean I have to setup my TMS in all the ECC6 system? Example --> DEV, QAS and PROD.
      4)   The connection to the SAP backend system exists and works. -
    > What is this mean? I need to Setup RFC connection manually using SM59? RFC connection from Solman to my ECC6-DEV,QAS, PRD?
      5)   The SAP Solution Manager Java instance is up-to-date. --> not too sure. Can someone explain how this can be checked?
    Thank you very much.

  • Setup group category & setup group Key.

    Dear Friends,
I am facing some problem in setup group category... Please check this scenario and let me know...if anybody is having any idea about this...
My scenario is: I am having a single work center... on which I  can do some machining activity. This WC is used in 100 material routings. but all my 100 materials are grouped into 5 categories. based on the dia... for example 100-120 dia one group 121-140 dia another group like that. If my two successive materials are belong to same group..then.. I donot have any setup time. if my two success materials scheduled on that machine are not belong to same group...then I am having 5 hrs of setup time.
so here setup time I can not mention in the routing...
this can be achieved by setup group and setup group key...and through capacity leveling... we can insert this setup time as per the matrix... in the matrix we need to define the setup times between two different groups..
And here the setup time is almost equal to machining time of one material. max.. they can do 3 materials machining only.. if there is no setup in a day of 16 hrs working. So manageement wants to minimize setup time... so grouping of the materials should be based on the Dia... this is the requirement.
I hope u understood my requirement...
Actually I maintained all the setup group categories, setup group keys in the routing and I maintained setup matrix also...
But during the finite scheduling through Capacity leveling I am not able to consider the setup time in the production order.... This is the problem I am facing... If anybody is having any idea...please share with me..
    Regards,
    Surya.

    Hi Suryanarayana,
I see that you have defined setup type and setup group keys and also setup matrix.
Please check the following under SPRO -> CRP -> Capacity leveling and extended evaluation -> Strategy -> Define strategy profile. There is a standard strategy profile to optimize setup times, which is SAPSFCT005 (Fin.sched.for./disp.acc. to setup group). Check the settings under this profile especially the check box "dispatch at best time for set up" to see if it works.
    Best of luck,
    Sharabh

  • Optimizer Doubts

    Hi experts,
We are working with Characteristic depending planning (CDP) together with setup matrixes based on characteristics.
First, we run an heuristic process that organizes the operation sequence .This is followed by the optimizer execution. The optimizer run lasts 5 minutes. However, the results obtained are not adjusted to the ones suggested by the matrix.
Unfortunately after the optimizer run, a manual adjustment must be done followed by a next run. This activity must be iterated until the desired result is reached.
I need some advise cause I need to clarify some doubts.
-Are the optimization results linked to the execution duration?
    - Is it usual to make manual adjustments?
    Regards,
    Analía Nahmías

the optimizer results are of course linked to the calculation duration. the longer the better the results. you can enter a maximum run time in the optimizer profile.
    general recommendation: 500 activities = 1 minute
if you increase this the optimzer will create more iterations and will get closer to the objective functions minimum.
it is unusual to adjust optiimizer results manually because any manual interaction destroys the optimizer result. it is like scales which have been delicately balanced with a lot of small weights on both sides. if you manually move one small weight to the other side the scale is out of balance.
If you work with set up matrices I recommend to check the set up costs and times of the transitions again. this is what the optimizer uses to schedule the activities.
for the optimizer, setup times and costs from the setup matrix are interpreted as follows:
    in objective function:
setup costs = 10 is comparable to a setup time of 10 seconds
setup costs = 1000 is comparable to a setup time of 16 minutes
Use grouping functionality in the setup maintenance to group setup keys: Define setup groups and setup keys.
Do not just put everything in one big setup matrix using only individual setup keys.

  • Optimizer job failure

    Hi,
We have encountered a similar failure in Optimizer background job for two days in a row. The Optimizer fails with an error which says "An Exception occurred in communication object.".
Please let me know if running a consistency check on APO database would be of any help to resolve this issue. Thank you.
    Rishikesh

    Hi Rishikesh,
You could check if your optimizer server is reachable properly from SCM.
The issue coud most likely lie in Basis domain.
There is a SAP document on Optimizer setup, but unfortunately I can't attach it here.
I am copy pasting some things that could be checked by Basis team (Choose the Optimizer below that you use):
    1. Log on to the SAP SCM System.
    2. Call transaction SM59.
The Display and maintain RFC destinations screen appears.
    3. Open the node for TCP/IP connection.
    4. For the first optimizer server, you have to adapt the following RFC entries:
    - OPTSERVER_CTM01
    - OPTSERVER_DPS01
    - OPTSERVER_SNP01
    - OPTSERVER_SEQ01
    - OPTSERVER_VSR01
    - OPTSERVER_MMP01
    - OPTSERVER_CS01
For the second optimizer server, the RFC entry names end with 02 (for example,
    OPTSERVER_CTM02) and so on.
    To adapt an RFC entry:
    a. Double-click the destination name OPTSERVER_<Optimizer>01.
The RFC Destination OPTSERVER_<Optimizer>01 screen appears.
    b. Depending on the server you must do the following to check the RFC entries:
    A) Standalone Optimizer Server:
    i. Choose Start on Explicit host.
ii. In the Program field check your program path (see table Program Paths of RFC Entries below).
iii. Check the name of your Target Host.
iv. Enter the number of the gateway host and the corresponding gateway service SAPGW<GW_NO>. You can find out the required parameters on your target host as follows:
    a. On your target host, call transaction SMGW
    b. Choose Goto u2192 Parameters u2192 Display (see entries for gateway hostname and gateway service)
    v. Confirm with O.K.
    B) Optimizer and SAP SCM on Same Server:
    i. Choose Start on Application server.
ii. In the Program entry field check your program path (see table Program Paths of RFC Entries below).
If your SAP SCM server is an Unicode system, you must do the following in addition to the above setting for each OPTSERVER_<Optimizer>01 destination:
    a. Choose the tab MDMP & Unicode.
    b. In the group frame Communication Type With Target System you must select the flag Non-Unicode and the flag Inactive for the MDMP Settings box.
I hope this would be helpful in some basic check.
If your basis team is not able to resolve the issue, then better to reach out to SAP through OSS.
    Thanks - Pawan

  • Backup to tape failed in DPM 2012

    I am new to DPM.
We have configured a protection group for short term goal with 7 days retention range, Synchronization frequency 6 hours. And recovery points are based on synchronization (means 4 Recovery points per day and DPM will have 28 valid restore points after a
week...!!??). In long term goals we have configured 2 recovery goals to tape ...  1 recovery point per week on saturday (retention 4 weeks) and 1 recovery point per month (on day 1 with retention range of 1 month).
Now Im getting PG status "backup to Tape failed" I want to know the process how DPM will check and verify recovery points on disk before writing them to tape.
Based on my protection group settings, there should be 4 recovery points on disk everyday. but there is something different result...see the below in reply.
    My queries are:
    1) On Saturday weekly tape job, does it require DPM to have valid 28 Recovery points?? What happen if any RP missing.
    2) Due to some issues, if weekely tape backup failed on saturday. Can we resume it on monday,tuesday..with corrective actions??
    3) the DPM process of verifying disk based recovery points before writing them to tape.

    Hi,
    <New questions Snip<
Q1) For file/volume protection, synchronization is not RP. We have to configure RP creation time manually.
A1)  Correct, file synchronizations are not recoverable, only "recovery points" are recoverable.
Q2) For application's (SQL,EXCH,SHAREPOINT) recovery points each synchronization job will create a RP as per synchronization frequency.
A2)  Yes, for applications like SQL and Exchange that support incremental backups, then incremental synchronizations are recoverable.
Q3) If a tape backup is getting failed due to invalid RP on disk, I am creating a manual RP with Express full backup(for databases) and a RP with Incremental(for file/volume share), then resuming tape backup. Is it correct way to do this?
A3) Yes, A manual Express full for application data or a manual recover point with synchronization for file / share data and that should allow you to manually create a new tape based backup from the alert.
Q4)How to enable the verify option to check the integrity of the tape backup?
A4) Simply modify the PG that has tape based protection and while on the "Select Library and tape Details" page, select the option "check backup for data integrity (time consuming operation)".
    Q5) And what is Co-Location..!!
A5) Tape co-location allows data from different protection groups to be written to the same tape.  You need to make a tape protection group set using the "Optimize usage" feature under the management - Libraries page of the DPM console.
    See the following TechNet pages.

  • Slow processing in full screen mode

    Hi All
I recently upgraded my camera to an EOS 5d mk 2. I take photos in full RAW, so resulting images are around 26 MB.I then import these as managed reference files into Aperture.
No issue with import to Aperture or image quality.
However, when viewing the photos in full screen mode (to rank / edit etc), they take a long time to properly open / load (about 20 seconds each.) Each time I re-open Aperture, each image needs to be re-loaded in full screen size - which can become very time consuming. Edits are equally very slow to process.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions how to manage this and avoid the time lag (other than downgrading to smaller image sizes). For example...
    - I currently have 2GB of memory and a 128 mb graphics card. Do I need to upgrade to handle such large images?
    - Can I reset a preference to avoid having to reload the full size image every time I open Aperture?
    - How can I speed up editing speed (nothing too fancy done here - I note from other posts the "7 deadly edits" that can cause processing to slow up)
    Any ideas gratefully received!!!
    Many thanks
    Paul

I don't understand whether you have a Referenced-Masters Library or a Managed-Masters Library. Drives slow as they fill and with a Managed-Masters Library sooner or later the internal drive will become overfilled. I recommend a Referenced-Masters Library with Masters on an external drive and the Aperture Library on the internal drive.
iMacs, laptops and Minis are by definition limiting to heavy Aperture usage, so work carefully to optimize setup and workflow.
First is to max the RAM and make sure the hard drive stays less than 70% full. Restart the iMac prior to a major Aperture session and only have Aperture open. You should also investigate to see if a substantially more powerful video card is available at reasonable price.

  • Why is DPM 2012 R2 splitting this Co-located Protection Group Set across three different tapes?

I have 10 protection groups that ran Saturday night.  I have put information about them in the following table:
I extracted the data in the table using Get-DPMProtectionGroup CmdLet and the job information from the Monitoring page of the DPM admin console.  As you can see from the tape barcode, DPM wrote the first four PGs to one tape, then started a second
tape, and finally failed when starting a third because it had run out of free tapes.
All of the protection groups are assigned to the same "Co-Located Protection Group Set" in the "Tape Optimization Setup" dialog box.
Prior to the jobs running, I painstakingly ensured that each of the Protection Group's "Select Long-Term Goals" and "Select Library and Tape Details" screens are identical as follows:
Prior to running the jobs I had already disabled autoclean on the tape library.
I have checked to see if the tape drive is reporting IO error 0x8007045D using the method described in this blog post:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/dpm/archive/2012/05/14/things-you-can-do-to-help-data-protection-manager-utilize-your-tapes-full-capacity.aspx
There seems to be no mention of 0x8007045D or -2147023779 in any of the MSDPM*.Errlog files.
These are LTO6 tapes with a capacity of 2.5 TB each.  The total data for all the jobs put together is less than 300GB.
Why is DPM 2012 R2 splitting these protection groups across three different tapes?
What else should I check for that might cause DPM to start a new tape?

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for taking a look at the logs.  I just wanted to point out that there were actually two changes made just before collocation succeeded:
Write Period and Expiry Tolerance were increase
    Full Verbose logging was enabled
This technet article states that Full Verbose logging affects performance.  If the problem with collocation is caused by a race condition then it is
possible that enabling logging actually caused collocation to succeed. At this point there doesn’t seem to be any evidence pointing to which of the two changes resulted in collocation succeeding.
I propose I run the following tests to differentiate the two:
    Test #1 - Collocation Confirmation
Repeat last weekend's test to confirm that successful collocation wasn't an anomaly.  Configuration:
    full verbose logging: Enabled
    Expiry Tolerance: 1 year
    Write Period: 1 year
    Test #2 - Logging Only
Test to see whether enabling Full Verbose logging enabled collocation to succeed.  Configuration:
    full verbose logging: Enabled
    Expiry Tolerance: 7 days
    Write Period: 6 day
    Thanks for your help,
    Alex

  • Extremely slow navigation in full screen mode and other erratic behavior

    Hi,
Is it me or every new release of PSE feels heavier and more bloated than the previous?
I have PSE9 running on a dual core, one year old dell PC with W7 with 4GB of RAM. I have the maximum amount of recommended memory alloted to the program (set in preferences).
Ever since I upgraded, moving forward (or backward) to the next pic (via pagedown, or up) through the filmstrip in fullscreen mode has become very, very sluggish. Sometimes it just will not move to the next image even when thi image is in the same directory as the previous one.
Is this sluggish navigation normal? Or is there something that I can do to improve performance??
I look at images in fullscreen mode to decide which ones to edit and which ones to delete so I use this feature a lot. Another example of sluggish-- or in this case erratic-- behavior happens when looking at an image in full screen and then I decide to edit the image. I load the image to the edito by clicking the editor icon on the left options pane. Even if the editor is already open, sometimes it brings the editor to the ferground with the image ready to be edited and sometimes it does not; I have to cycle with alt-tab to make the editor active. Why this erratic behavior? Then, after saving an image and selecting the close button, you are supposed to be returned to the organizer... well this happens sometimes, other times I have to manually swithc using alt-tab.
Please help, this is very annoying.

  • Photoshop and SSD's

I had a problem show up lately. Windows warned me about running out of memory and urged I shut down Photoshop. Among suggestions as to why, the notice indicated that the paging file may be too small. Now here is where the SSD comes in.
I have the Samsung 840 (not the Pro) 240G. Samsung's optimization setup configures the paging file min 200MB Max 1024MB. Windows says 200 min too small for error data collection, suggests 800 min and also suggests max to be about the size of RAM. I have 12G.
So it's between a rock and a hard place. I haven't seen this error since early days of Photostiching with inadequate RAM.
So for the moment, I have C configured to the Samsung spec, 200 to 1024MB, and a separate HDD configured System Managed. That maxes out to approx 12G
    Any thoughts?

Chris, I read that link and decided it was plain wrong. However Samsung "Magician" (now there's a title that is going to fill one with confidence!) sets the page file as indicated in my post, in either max reliability or max performance. Under these circumstances, would you ignore their settings and run the paging file as I have in the past, using MS recommendations, or will allowing the page file to reside on a different drive at full settings?
Of course, I could go out and buy more RAM!
When the warnings appeared, the system was using close to 11G. Photoshop was not busy but minimized and scratch was practically empty.
    Thanks!

  • Font substitution configuration file

    Good morning.
Looking for some information or guidance on the Font Substitution Configuration file that is optionally browsable in the Optimize node.
The documentation simply states the following:
Font Substitution Configuration File: Defines the pdfToolbox configuration file that will be used when embedding fonts. This configuration file controls font substitution behavior in Optimize. Fonts are embedded as subsets. Fonts are not embedded if they have a flag indicating that embedding is not allowed.
What does this function allow me to do, and is there a sample availabe that I can see how it is configured?
Is it necessary to use the "Embed Fonts if Needed" in the optimize setup?

    Hi All ,
Please let me know the exact link where I can find the setup guide for Maintenance Optimizer in Solman 7.0 EHP1 sp18 .
I found a few guides but was not able to locate the correct guide for this particular version.

    Hi Sunil,
EhP1 for Solution Manager means you have at least SPS18. Therefore documentation based on EhP1 is still valid, although Maintenance Optimizer has been updated as of SPS22+
You can refer to this guide: https://websmp106.sap-ag.de/~sapdownload/011000358700002003492008E

  • Setup optimization - Changeover time queries

We are planning to use Setup Matrix based optimization in PPDS to schedule planned orders. Setup group and keys are maintained in routings and available in PDS. The setup matrix is maintained and updated in resources. In the optimizer run, system will read the changeover time (transition time) from the setup matrix. I have queries on this process:
Q1 - Will the change over time also be taken into account while calculating the actual planned order start time and end time? Or will the setup activity time will just be taken from PDS (which in turn comes from ECC routing?)
Q2 u2013 If the answer to above is a no, does it mean that for production execution, APO will provide only the correct order sequence and approximate order start and finish timings? (This would be somewhat a letdown if we can't get a feasible schedule with order start and end timings; something the production folks could aspire to.)
Q3 u2013 We also plan to allow out some manual adjustments in DS Planning Board. When we move the orders around by drag and drop, will the DS Board read the changeover time from the setup matrix?

    1. If you have checked sequence dependent set up activity in PDS during planned order creation also time will be taken from matrix not from routing.
    2. Change in order sequence in DS board manually will result into different set up times based on matrix defined.
