Optimizing videos in IBA

I have  video heavy iba, It has 10 videos which come out to around 1.98gb. I believe the AppleStore will pass book validations up to 2 gigs per book?
I need to try to cut these videos down so for instance:
Video 1 is an m4v converted from an .mov in Quicktime 10 using the Export tab on QT 10 Format is set for Ipod touch Iphone 3GS ( the other format was 480p)
size of the m4v is 56.3 mb dimensions are 640 x 480
I did another conversion of the same video but this time used export for web
and got the file size down to 17.6 mb and those dimensions are 480 x 360
Really cant tell the difference when I tap to full screen so before I go ahead and convert each of the nine videos I want to make sure this is the correct way as I'm cutting down the file size by 2/3 which will get me underneath 1GB as I notice when I preview the book in my IPad it takes about 3 minutes to get me to preview the entire book at it's current size.
Any help?
R

Don't misunderstand  - I'm not saying you should attempt to reprocess a video you've already prepped.
Presumably, you have videos that need processing (Let's call those v1.0unProcessed) , because you stated "I did another conversion of the same video but this time used export for web". You took v1.0 videos and converted/processed them for iBA/iPad use, let's call those v2.0original/process A.
I'm saying to take a v1.0unProcessed and run it thru iTunes, generating a v2.0new/processB and use them for comparison against v2.0original/processA.

  • IMovie optimized video on windows

    Hello,
A friend of mine had video that he imported from his camera on iMovie on his mac. He then gave the files to me to edit. I edit video with Adobe Premier CS4. When I began working on the video, I could not view the video. All I get when I open the video files in any media player, including quicktime, I only get the audio. Quicktime tells me that I am missing a codec or something, then takes me to a web page with a list of codecs, none of which seem to suite my problem. Is there a way for me to get these iMove optimized videos to work on my PC?
    Other information:
    The video files are .mov
I have tried using Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, VLC, Magic Video Converter, Aimersoft video converter, and Adobe Premier CS4 to view the video. All gave the same main result, Audio but no video. Some gave errors about the video format or about codecs.
My computer is running Windows 7 64-bit

Try MPEG Streamclip, which is free and converts a huge range of video types. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to convert the file on a Mac

  • Help! I "optimized video" to "original full size" and...

Hy. I optimized video to original full size, because when I rendirize the project the video was being cut, the head of the caracter was being cuted off. I couldnt understand why. I duplicated the project and try optimized it.
I cant believe it. I failed deeply. Now the original video in the event is bad quality.  Any solution? What happened?
I try to undo optimizing the video and its not available.
Any help so I can save my project and if possible the original video?
    Thank you very much. Bruno

Basically you're approaching this the wrong way around. What you need is the extreme sections to be quieter, not louder. The problem with moving the lower end of the audio is that you'll move the noise floor too, and get what's generally referred to as a 'pumping' effect. So what you do is to use a compressor to tame the peaks, and leave the lower level sound alone. When you've done that, you amplify (or normalize to a level you can determine) the whole signal. So the noise floor will be higher, but constant and not pumping. 'Match Volume' is a completely different tool for setting the overall levels of different tracks so that they sound approximately the same - it doesn't even begin to do what you want.
If it's music you are treating, then I'd almost certainly use the multiband compressor, because you get less artefacts with this. You need to experiment with the threshold levels, and almost certainly not use a massive compression ratio - 3:1 or 4:1 should be sufficient (although it's hard to tell without actually hearing the audio). You can tell what it's doing at any given point because the downward meter indicates how hard it's working. In theory you can apply make-up gain with it as well, but personally I leave that until everything's treated and use the 'Normalize' tool to set an absolute max level.

  • Flash player keeps optimizing video quality

    Hi,
I am at a loss. I am using Windows 7 with Chrome.  Everytime I try to use HBOGo.com I keep getting the message optimizing video quality.  Sometimes i can watch a video, but then i will get this message more.  Please help.  I have done troubleshooting and now I lost.

Hi, many users have found improvement by turning off the hardware acceleration which is turned on by default with the FP 10.1. Just right click on a youtube video and change the Setting, Display Settings Panel.
Also it is recommended to update graphic and video drivers to the latest versions. Whether you need to do this you would know.

  • Optimal Video Settings for Projectors

    Hi Guys,
Really need your help on this one. My goal is to find the
optimal video format, data-rate and frame-rate to import 2-3 min
video pieces into director. I have the latest versions of Director
    and Sorensen.
The projector size is 1000 x 700 pixels to be distributed on
    dvd.
The original video files are mixed formats. I have some 640 x
425 AVI CAD movies, some DV movies at NTSC resolution and some 720
x 540 QTVR files converted to .avi.
The file types I am testing at the moment are SWF and
QUICKTIME .MOV, with mixed results on different systems. The best
results so far are from converting to SWF at 2500 kbps with 25 fps
keeping original size. I am then stretching the movies in director
    to fit 1000 x 670.
Ideally I would like each movie to play back at a setting of
1000 x 670 inside the projector, so that I can add movie controls
at the bottom of the projector.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Am I doing
something wrong here or is this the reality of using Director for
what I am trying to acheive. I seem to be spending hours trying
various formats and data-rates but with very average performance.

...doesn't really sound like a Lingo question but maybe
    someone can help.

  • Optimizing video in imovie takes ages

Had to convert my sony video files ( using iV1 ) to M4V and when I import them to imovie the process takes ages. Please is there a way to make this quicker or to skip the optimizing stage? I am a bit of a beginner here !!!!  Thanks for any help.

    Hi Mowser,
I have not tried SD card yet (my camera has HDD and I have no SD card. I have the latest version of iMovie 08. I seem to remember that when I selected "import from camera" the "mts" files (or any file of AVCHD) remain grayed out.
Maybe since the system came all preinstalled, it has its glitches. MacOSX itself shows me the drive of the HDD immediately (or a dmg I created from it). Just all Apple editing programs wait a good 5-9 minutes before they take any action in showing the drive/importing. Once they do, all goes fine.
    thank you for your input!

  • Making Optimal Videos for Vimeo

Just curious if any other folk use Vimeo and what video settings you use in Adobe to give optimal performance on Vimeo.
Also, I get the following error uploading to Vimeo:
"This video's datarate is only 2688kbps, which is lower than what we recommend and means your video might not look as nice as it should. For HD video, we suggest you use a higher datarate, typically 5000kbps"
I have 9.0 and use HD 720p 30, but I don't seen ay options in there for setting the datarate?
Anybody know where this can be found, or what it's even for?  ;-)
    Thanks!

  • Optimizing video rendering in CC 2014

I'm trying to color correct a 68 minute GoPro video using CC 2014 64 bit on a Windows 8.1 system with 16gb of ram and an i7 2600K 3.4ghz (4 core, 8 threads) system and it looks like it might take 36 hours to render in 1080p (780p didn't appear to be any faster).  I am using an SSD for the video and as a scratch disk.  I checked my performance settings, and they all seem good.  The Task Manager shows CPU utilization at about 33% -- I would have expected higher.  Is there some setting I have overlooked??

Is there some setting I have overlooked??
Well, you are using the wrong program? Forgive the sarcasm, but despite all that stuff PS simply is not a video editing app and all these features have to work within the normal limitations of the main program, meaning it is chewing through the frames as if they were still images plus there is a definitive bottleneck decoding footage in the first place, expanding and flattening the buffers and then re-encode it back to a video format. Most of that happens in a single thread to provide temporal consistency, so there you have it why your (theoretically) powerful CPU is sitting on its own hands with nothing to do for the other cores. Come to think of it, if you recorded at 120 FPS your 68 minutes could equal almost half a million HD frames and batch processing an equal amount of images would take just as long. And there is tons of extra overhead with PS creating lots of temp files eating up your transfer bandwidth, possibly color management stuff requiring extra processing and what have you. So more or less, I suppose you will have to live with it or consider using other "proper" video programs like Premiere Pro.

  • Stop optimizing videos in iMovie

How do I stop optimization of videos in i Movie as it is saying it requires 300 hours to complete and I cant do anything else with iMovie whilst this is going.

This is not normal. You should probably Force Quit iMovie by clicking /Force Quit/iMovie
If you want to know for sure, open the Activity Monitor. Select iMovie and click on the Inspector. If you see some recent hangs, that is a sign that it is not making any progress and you should shut it down.

  • Best choices for optimizing video quality and playability

I'm shooting family videos with a Panasonic TM-900 camcorder. I absolutely love the look of video shot in 1080p 60fps, but I'm not sure of the best way to process this video in FCPX for output. I prefer playing back edited videos on a HTPC connected to a NTSC HDTV, but I also distribute videos to family members on DVD. So my questions are: what are the best settings for FCPX to achieve a good balance of video quality and playability. Best frame rate for output files? Best codec? Will H.264 compression compromise video quality? My experiments so far have yielded wildly different results. Depending on the codec used and output frame rate selected, file sizes can be huge or reasonable; playability (via home theater programs like Plex and XBMC) can be superb, jerky, or non-existent. And of course, quality seems to suffer when outputting these files to DVD. Please share your thoughts and experiences on the best way to approach this challenge.

Working with H.264  is probably not going to give the best results if outputting to DVD. If you optimize media and let FCP determine your clips project settings, that will set the stage for several successful workflows.
If you're OK with a basic menu, you could simply use Share DVD and let FCP do all the work. It will change the frame rate to 29.97, and the quality should be pretty decent.(If you want more control over the quality settings, Compressor can do a similar job; output a master file and bring that into Compressor.)
If you want a more complex DVD and menu, what Al said about Master File>iDVD.
Also as he indicated,  you could also consider using either FCP or Compressor to create AVCHD disks if your movies are under about 40 minutes in length. Your family will need Blu Ray players of some sort to be able to view them.
You could make a true Blu Ray disk from FCP or Compressor if you have a Blu Ray burner. (There are also some third party solutions for BD.)

  • Optimal Video Encoding Settings for Apple TV...

Is Apple TV still limited to 720p, 24 FPS, at 5000 Kbps video bitrate with 160 kbps audio for maximum quality?

    JFraser wrote:
Then what's the highest bitrate that's actually supported and how much bandwidth will the Apple TV hog from the network at that level?
    as per the advertised specs.
    Video formats supported
H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store): Up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
iTunes Store purchased video: 320 by 240 pixels, 640 by 480 pixels, 720 by 480 pixels (anamorphic), or high-definition 720p
MPEG-4: Up to 3 Mbps, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 720 by 432 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

  • Optimizing Video

Ok, so I downloaded the latest update for imovie, in a vain attempt to get it to quit forgetting to save peoples imovie changes (it's a lab in a school). Anyway, now every time the kids try to work on their imovie (provided it hasn't lost all the changes they made) the app wants to spend a 1/2 hour optimizing everything! How to I turn optimizing off??

I had the same problem, and posted my solution [here|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11310709#11310709]. Your other disk problems (i.e., not saving) may be related.

  • IMovie - quick questions about video files when importing and optimizing

Hi, have some quick questions. I think they are simple.
    1. When I import a video (from say iPhoto), where does it get "Move" or "Copy" to?
    2. Why would I want to do "Copy" instead of "Move", because isn't it then taking up more space?
    3. I'm wondering if after I optimize a video, I can stash away the original (non-optimized video that I either "Move"d or "Copy"d earlier) into an external hd.
    4. By the way, what is the new file name of the optimized video?
Though things are working fine in iMovie and iPhoto, I'm trying to manage hard disk space, and hope answers to these questions will help.
Do you guys have a guideline on how to manage hard disk space when it comes to iphoto and imovie?
    Thanks.

As has been suggested you can encourage people to download QuickTime player by doing something like this...
    http://www.mirroroftheuniverse.com/Songs.html
You can also present your songs like this...
    http://roddymckay.com/Satellite/JukeBox.html
This is a SnoCap jukebox and you need an account to use it but you'll get the link to ESnips on the above page.
A 3 minute song has a file size of about 30 Mb in AIFF format. Converting it to MP3 reduces it to about 3.5 Mb and M4A to about 5.5 Mb.
iTunes will do these conversions for you and M4A is far superior to MP3 as far as sound quality is concerned.

  • Videos with transitions have garbage when played back

I have recurring problems when inserting videos made with Keynote (6.5.3) and exported to QuickTime. Please see DropBox link for example video.
Image in video is 1500 x 1000 px, imported into Keynote in original size—no scaling.

Given the window size you cite, you are likely generating a very high bitrate video file and that could cause the symptoms you report. The iPad, where most *.ibooks files are played back, is 1024 X 768 so all of those "extra" pixels are not doing any good. Without access to the file, this is all conjecture. There are a lot of variables at work. Fortunately, iBA 2.2 now does a much better job of optimizing video than earlier versions of the optimizer did.. The optimizer does its best work when handed files with a reasonable bit rate. Share a link to that video file so we can scope it out and be more precise.
