Option to create a collection upon Import.

One of the benefits of Lightroom is its ability to allow freeform photo management in collections. In its current version (1.0) the user must Import and then create a separate collection category and drag pictures to the newly created collection from the folder sub-pane. By allowing the user to get their photos in to a collection as part of the Import process it would eliminate this step and allow the user to immediately start organizing shoots in the collection sub-pane. As a side note, I thought this was a "feature" in Beta-4. Was it? It also makes some logical sense as most of the demos/tutorials I've seen leave the pictures to be Imported in there default locations. So, it seems that once the pictures are hard disk organized no one is interested in adjusting there locations. For me personally, my pictures are hard disk organized be DVD burn size in folders named DVD00n. Where n is a consecutive and increasing number. Not the most convent for finding photos which is why I'm using Lightroom collections.

I can see some value in this, but really, just do Control+A, Control+N after an import and you'll have the imported photos in a new collection.

  • Creating smart collections using Import Smart Collection settings

    Does anybody know if I can create smart collections using Import Smart collection settings? Where can I find any information on this other than Photo collections? In particular, I am interested in what to do with the ID.

    I'll try to explain the best I can. I am trying to improve my workflow.
    I have been a little lazy with my workflow, I don't rate by images for 2 reasons: 1) I haven't found a rating system I am comfortable with (we might have discussed this on another thread), and 2) I am not very good at critically assessing my own photo graphic work. This means I have very often jumped to the develop module to adjust an image without ever bother to rate them (almost 20% of my catalog).
    I have also rated some images and never touched them.
    So I have a need to find images I have rated and adjusted, images I have rated and not adjusted, and images I have adjusted and not rated.
    Now, my photographers vision and knowledge have both changed substantially over the past 5 years. So to make the task more manageable I am trying to divide my catalog into 3 collections per year:
    1 - Rated and adjusted
    2 - Rated and not adjusted
    3 - Adjusted and not rated
    The assumption is that this is the bit of the catalog worth looking at and re-organise first. I know that anything I edited last year would have been more proficiently edited that anything I edited in 2010.
    Does it make some sense?

    Hi All,
    We have a  requirement where end user have a option to create site collection with out contacting farm admin, and each site collection would be created in separate content db.
    we used WebApplication.sites.add() which is working only for classic authentication web applications.
    how do we create site collections in claims enable web application with each site in separate content db?
    Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

    Hi,
    We can use Self Service Site Creation to achieve your requirement.
    The code snippet below for your reference:
    using (var site = rootSite.SelfServiceCreateSite(siteCollectionUrl, title, description, locale, null, adminLogin, adminName, adminEmail, secondaryAdminLogin, secondaryAdminName, secondaryAdminEmail))
    var web = site.RootWeb;
    web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true;
    //Activate web template feature
    site.Features.Add(webTemplateFeatureGuid);
    //Apply web Template
    using (var s = new SPSite(site.ID))
    var webTemplates = s.RootWeb.GetAvailableWebTemplates(locale);
    var webTemplateId = "{" + webTemplateFeatureGuid.ToString() + "}#" + webTemplateName;
    var webTemplate = webTemplates[webTemplateId];
    if (webTemplate != null)
    web.ApplyWebTemplate(webTemplate);
    // need to reload web. Features in webtemplate have modified it!
    web = site.OpenWeb(web.ServerRelativeUrl);

  • Import from Aperture Created Extra Collections (2 for 1)

    I used the Aperture Import plugin to import my Library to start fresh with Lightroom 5. It created many extra "collections" that I now don't know what to do with. It would take me hours to change the hierarchy in Lightroom now that this has occured.
    Sample Aperture Hierarchy:
    PERSONAL FOLDER
         FAMILY FOLDER
              SISTER PROJECT - contains photos
              DAD PROJECT - contains photos
              MOM PROJECT - contains photos
    How they transferred to Lightroom 5 Hierarchy using SISTER as example:
    PERSONAL COLLECTION SET
         FAMILY COLLECTION SET
              SISTER COLLECTION SET
                   SISTER COLLECTION (NAMED "PROJECT PHOTOS") - contains photos
    Essentially, it duplicated efforts and created two (a collection set and a collection) for every one project in aperture. (see SISTER above)
    It did this for hundreds of collection sets/projects! It seems in order to correct this I would have to go back and remove the last COLLECTION SET for every COLLECTION and Change it to a COLLECTION INSTEAD (renaming it from "PROJECT PHOTOS" to the COLLECTION NAME). I tried some of this but it didn't seem to want to let me move the COLLECTIONS named "Project Photos" into the COLLECTION SET?
    My questions are:
    Is there a way to change or clean up my aperture library so it won't import this way? (Considering just deleting the Lightroom Catalog and starting from scratch with a new import). I have to have the sub categories for organization.
    Is there an easy way to change a collection set to a collection and have all the pics show up there. I tried moving photos from the collection into collection sets and it would not let me.
    Is there a way to choose/customize how it imports from Aperture and select whether things = collection sets or collections?
    Should I use regular import instead? Will that work differently and if so what are the steps?
    What is the correct hierarchy based on the Aperture example above as to how I should be organizing my photos?
    Finally, In terms of my CATALOGUE; I am not thrilled that it brought everything in by day (3/13/2015, 3/12/2015) into my catalogue! Is there an option to tell it HOW to import? Say by month? Will I have to keep up this sequence every time I import now? (I plan to import/sync with SmugMug from now on: Iphone to SmugMug to Lightroom)
    Thanks and any help is appreciated!

    and obviously that's not possible directly from Aperture (why not?),
    Obviously it is, consult your Aperture Manual. But here’s a hint: Start with File -> New -> Book...
    What do I do wrong?
    You’re using the iPhoto command: Show Aperture Library, correct?
    When you do this you’re accessing your Aperture Previews. IF you want to use better quality images either a: use better quality Previews in Aperture, or export the images from Aperture and import to iPhoto.

  • Is there a way to create a collection based on the "previous import"?

    is there a way to create a collection based on the "previous import"? that would make it easy to mobile sync the last import to my ipad, and do further picking/rejecting while away from my laptop.

    well, yes, of course i could do it that way. i guess i wasn't specific enough. is there a way to create a smart collection, with the photos in the "previous import" as members of the smart collection.  earlier i mentioned about using this smart collection to mobile sync with my ipad, to do further flagging.
    so my intention, use a smart collection to mobile sync with my ipad, and the smart collection to include the photos from my previous import.
    i guess another way to ask the question, is there a way to create a smart collection, by using some rule or condition in the smart collection, to automatically include previous import photos.
    the documentation says that "previous import" is a collection, even though it shows up in the catalogue side bar section. but i see no way to choose that collection when making a smart collection.

  • IPod 60G: way to convert to lower kbps upon import??

    I was looking in the iPod help menu for a way to convert my iTunes tracks to a lower kbps upon import (as a way to maximize space). It looks like there is a "convert to lower kbps" button for iPod Shuffle; however, not one for iPod.
    Anyone know if there is a way to get this done?? Would rather have my songs at 160 kbps on iTunes and then lower on iPod. The more songs the merrier, ya followin' me??

    Itsmyvoodoo,
    Welcome to the discussions. There is no option like that on the iPod Shuffle. However, there are ways to do what you want. Check out this repost I made in response to a user who had imported all her music as Apple lossless and had run out of room on her iPod:
    "Apple lossless files are the biggest files you can import your music as. You have a couple options now. What you are going to need to do is convert the songs to a smaller file size like AAC. Under your import preferences, change the file type to the one you would like to convert your music too. Then, in library, sort your music by "Kind." If there isn't a "Kind" collumn at the top of your library, right click the "sorting bar" and select Kind. A collumn should appear. Click on it so that the arrow is either pointing up or down. See what file types your songs are. Are there any that are already in the format that you are about to convert to? If so, don't select those songs. Otherwise, select all the songs that are not the file type you would want (we'll say for discussion purposes that you chose AAC under the Import tab). Right click the selected songs, choose "Convert to AAC." iTunes will then copy and paste all the songs you selected into the new file format, AAC. Now, you have two options. If you have plenty of memory on your computer, I would choose Option 2.
    Option 1:
    You could delete all the music in the Apple Lossless format from your library and continue syncing the iPod automatically.
    Pros: You don't have to change any of the settings you use to sync your iPod.
    Cons: You delete the higher quality music. If you ever want to play your iPod through a stereo or high quality speakers, you won't have the high quality music to play.
    Option 2
    Make a Smart playlist (File>Make New Smart playlist). Choose "Kind" in the first drop down menu. Choose "Does Not Contain" from the next drop down menu. Then, type in "Apple Lossless." What this does is essentially create a seperate library for you; one that contains no lossless files. Now, depending on how many playlists you have, you may want to replace the songs in the playlists with AAC files, but if you don't have too many playlists with Lossless files, it should not be a problem. Next, connect your iPod. Go to File>Preferences>iPod Tab Choose automatically update selected playlists only. Then select all the playlists, including the smart playlists, you want to sync onto your iPod. This will sync all the files in your library, excluding those in the lossless format.
    Pros: You get the best of both world. You have all the lossless files on your computer, and all the AAC files on your iPod.
    Cons: You take up a lot of file space on your computer when you virtually duplicate your library.
    Hopefully that wasn't impossible to follow. Try one of the options and see how much file space you save. Post back with any questions."

  • Does iPhoto change a RAW file upon import or export?

    Hi! New Mac user here. Trying to get my workflows and backups going.
    I created an iPhoto library from multiple sources: migration from PC, folders from backup HD, new photos from iPhone and camera memory card.
    So I have one consolidated library that is almost 300Gb but I want to go through and remove and archive many of these, leaving only a much smaller working library with the archive copies of some originals stored somewhere else.  These archive copies will not be referenced files, my plan is to export them from iPhoto, back them up to an external HD, and then delete them from the iPhoto library. If I ever decided to look at them again, I would import them from the archive HD.
    Ideally, I should have imported all the files to my iMac desktop and then imported only what I wanted into iPhoto, but because everything is now consolidated (and the photos from the iPhone and camera memory card are erased), I don't want to wipe out my iPhoto library and start over. So I'm starting with this huge managed library and want to export a good part of it to what I will call "the archive" to cull it down.
    My questions: Upon import, did iPhoto change the RAW master files, or will those be the same when I export them (assuming I made no edits)? Did iPhoto change the JPEGs or will those also be the same when I export them?
    How do I export the files I want to save to the archive before deleting them from the iPhoto library?
    Alternatively, I think I will use Aperture going forward for editing.  Should I use that instead for trying to export these files?
    Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
    LCA
    iMac 4 GB, 2.7 GHz, Intel Core i5
    OS X 10.7.4
    iPhoto 9.3.1
    Aperture 3.3.1

    File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue set the Kind to Original
    That will export a byte by byte copy of the file you imported, unchanged in any way.
    Can I suggest another way of working. Why not have two Libraries? An archive and a working one?
    The principle advantage is that you won't have to import pics to review them again later, just open the other library.
    Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
    Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
    As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
    You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
    You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • Image Squished Upon Import from Photoshop

    I imported a simple Tiff from photoshop and it looks vertically squished upon import (about 5% but still). Has anyone seen this before? I tried exporting but it still appeared squished. Any thoughts on what it may be.

    You can render to whatever size you want.
    You can precompse your HD comp and nest it in a SD comp, and render from that if you wish.
    Or, you could use the stretch options in the Render Queue to downsize your comp.
    The point I'm trying to make is that there are only a few HD frame sizes (image dimensions).
    Generally speaking, you have 1920x1080, and 1280x720.
    Those are the two flavors that you have to work with in HD.
    Some codecs create variations on those sizes based on pixel shape, but that's it for HD.
    Once you depart from one of those frame sizes, you're simply not displaying HD material, beit created in AE, or shot in camera.
    If you present a frame size that was downsized HD, then it is no longer an HD frame.
    If you want to show your client a certain piece "in HD", then you may want to make sure you're showing them a true HD file, and not a downsized verison.

  • Crashing upon import of any assets, Win 7

    Well,
    I got windows 7, intel i7 2.66 Ghz, 6Gb of Triple Channel DDR3 @ 1600mhz, a GeForce 260.. After banging my head against the wall trying to get a clean install of Master Collection 4 for 2 days, I have it all together.. NOW, Encore freezes upon importing anything as an asset. I always end up hitting the reset button to get out of frozen encore.. It's HEARTBREAKING!!! I am rendering straight to H.264 BluRay from Premiere/ Adobe Media Encoder and I am getting good progress.. Too bad I am incapable of authoring any BluRay or DVDs.. I have a pile of money waiting for me at the other side of this nightmare and I've been ready to burn the disks since Friday morning and it's 4:10am Tuesday night. I've thrown money at it like a broken down car, built a beast of a machine, and now it's on Adobe for creating such an unstable product.. It would be nice if we had some information when Encore crashes.. What driver is causing it? I have the latest Windows 7 drivers for everything.. I think I will waste some more time installing Windows XP on a separate disk, just for encore to burn pre-transcoded projects.. I'll probably have the same problems due to hardware conflicts.. I am getting closer and closer to going MAC!! If I hurry, I might get the 1000+ refunded that I just spent and put it toward a mac.. I wish somebody would compile a list of solid hardware configurations that are tried and true. That is the benifit of using Mac and it can be done on PC for half the money, but 10 fold the headache.
    On the lighter side, I do most of my business as a recording studio and I was able to get everything running properly for that.

  • Create a Collection of machines missing a single patch MS07-042

    Good Morning All,
       I am trying to create a collection for all machines missing a single patch.  MS07-042.  This patch has multiple KB numbers.
    I noticed a couple of odd occurances.
    1) Console query builder does not expose the Updates classes.
    2) Console query builder does expose all the ITMU classes.  I am not sure if these are populated with the WSUS information gathered by the WUA.
    I did create the following query
    select *
    from  SMS_R_System inner join SMS_UpdateComplianceStatus on SMS_UpdateComplianceStatus.MachineID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId
       inner join SMS_Softwareupdate on  SMS_Softwareupdate.CI_ID = SMS_UpdateComplianceStatus.CI_ID
    where SMS_Softwareupdate.BulletinID = "MS07-042"
    However, I am unable to locate any documentation on what the Status Fields indicate in SMS_UpdateComplianceStatus.
    My Questions
    1) Is there an easier way to do this?
    2) Is there any documentation on what the fields mean in SQL?
    I look forward to blogging about this as soon as I am sure of an answer.
    Best
    Shaun Cassells
    http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/scassells/default.aspx

    Torsten, do you have a refrence for the SMS_UpdateComplianceStatus table?  I want to know what the Status Field values represent.
    I realize this is an old thread, but I just wanted to put in my $0.02 in case someone else stumbles upon it looking for info.
    So, the SMS_UpdateComplianceStatus class (cuz we're talking collections here, which is WQL and pulls from WMI classes) is really the equivalent of the v_UpdateComplianceStatus view.  So if you want to see what's in that, go to SQL and query it.
    Also, if you want to know what the Status field values are, you can find those by looking at the v_StateNames view from SQL too where TopicType = 400 I believe.
    State 0 = Unknown
    State 1 = Not Required (meaning doesn't have patch and doesn't need it)
    State 2 = Not Detected (meaning it doesn't have patch but needs it)
    State 3 = Detected (meaning it has this patch)
    So, if you want to create a collection of machines that are missing a patch, you could do something like this:
    SELECT
      SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,
      SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,
      SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,
      SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,
      SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,
      SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client
    FROM
      SMS_R_System
      JOIN SMS_UpdateComplianceStatus
        ON SMS_R_System.ResourceID = SMS_UpdateComplianceStatus.MachineID
        AND SMS_UpdateComplianceStatus.Status = 2
      JOIN SMS_SoftwareUpdate
        ON SMS_UpdateComplianceStatus.CI_ID = SMS_SoftwareUpdate.CI_ID
        AND SMS_SoftwareUpdate.ArticleID = 832671

  • ITunes 10.5.3 corrupting MP3's upon import?

    I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.5.3 and have added a few MP3 albums since the update.
    Various tracks are being corrupted when imported. I have previewed the songs using Finder prior to importing them in iTunes and they play absolutely fine however once added to iTunes they begin to skip and corrupt, especially towards the end of every song. I have checked albums imported prior to the update and they are not affected, it's only new albums I have added since the update.
    Has anyone else encountered this? As I say, the files themselves are fine before being added to iTunes but they skip and suddenly cut off before the end of the song when added to the library.
    Any advice or help will be really welcome.
    EDIT: The songs which are corrupt upon import all fail at approximately 40 seconds before the end of the song, no matter how long the track is.

    I do not believe the poster's update to Lion had anything to do with fixing the problem. What fixed their problem was the fact that they re-downloaded the file, not that they updated their OS. I continue to have this problem sporadically with iTunes Match, and my OS and iTunes are fully updated (AND I'm on a fast wired connection via Cable modem, not WiFi).
    I've had and continue to have this problem of a small number of songs getting downloaded corrupt when updatings songs via iTunes Match.
    Deleting and re-downloading from iTunes Match is the only solution I have found for the problem as I am having it: the songs ARE corrupted for me, and it's not just a metadata problem. When I open the songs in an audio editing program you can see that the audio just isn't there: the data stops before the end of the song (somewhere between 50% and 70% through the piece, usually). So copying it to another computer or re-importing it won't fix anything.
    The problem is that iTunes doesn't KNOW which of the songs I've matched-then-downloaded via iTunes Match are bad, and I won't know either until I happen to play one that skips before it ends.
    Here's the only solution I've found that will inspect these songs one at a time and list the bad ones:
    Create a Playlist of all songs you've downloaded (upgraded) via iTunes Match.
    Plug in an iPod (etc.) and wipe out whatever songs are on it already.
    In the iTunes setting for that iOS device, tell it to recompress the songs to 128k AAC as it puts the songs onto the iOS device.
    Now sync that entire Playlist to the device and wait.
    Result: all songs that cannot be down-converted by iTunes to 128k AAC (because the song data is bad) will be listed in the resulting error dialog.
    Here's the total suck part: iTunes doesn't let you save that list of errors off to a text file. You have to do one or more screen captures and save off the list, then manually go find those songs, delete them and re-download them from iTunes Match. Total PIA but it's the best I have come up with, since I can find no other utility or means to batch-check that these files are valid.

  • In MAX, I don't have the option to create a DAQmx Simluated Device. Why not?

    I'm new to LABView.  I installed the software, including the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).  Within MAX, I am trying to create a DAQmx Simulated Device, as suggested in a training guide (which I quote below).  I don't have the option to create such a thing upon right-clicking on "Devices and Interfaces".  I am given the option to create a new GPIB-VXI Interface, a Port, VISA TCP/IP Resource, and GPIB-ENET/100.  I'd appreciate if someone can help me to create a simulated device according to the following steps, given that I currently lack the option "NIDAQmx Simulated Device":
    3. Create a simulated DAQ device for use later in this course. Simulated devices are a powerful tool for development without having hardware physically installed in your
    computer. Right-click Devices and Interfaces and select Create New…»NIDAQmx Simulated Device. Click “Finish”.
    4. Expand the M Series DAQ section. Select PCI-6220 or any other PCI device of your choice. Click “OK”.
    Thanks.

    It sounds like you didn't install DAQmx. Open MAX and get a list of the software present. If you don't see DAQmx listed, install it from the CD/DVD or download the latest version.

    Hello :
    we are SCM 4.1. We have a need to run 4 macro in a sequence.  I felt that I could create a collective macro and list the macro's.. The macro are user exit macro's. and I am unable to see them in the drop down list.. tried to search OSS Notes . did not find a lot of info.
    Would appreciate any insights and suggestions. We are on SCM 4.1

    Hello Andy
    Thank you for the reply.
    I am trying to create a "Collective MAcro" which would run 4 macros.  In hte COllective macro there is a drop down option to select the macro that we want to run.. We can select upto 6 macros..
    In this drop down list, I am unabel to see the 4 user exit macros. The macro that I want to run in a sequence are "user exit macros". They are active and can be executed one at a time in Interactive Planning.
    I am creating a "Collective Macro" as this would ensure that the 4 user exit macros are run in the correct sequence.
    OSS note 907177 refers to availabilty  of "badi macros" in Collective macro. This is only for SCM50..
    We are in SCM 4.1. ANy pointers can be of great help

  • How can we create a Collective search help

    Hi all sap experts,
    How can we create a Collective search help on field “OBJECT” which allows to search tables
    o   ARCH_OBJ
    o   TOJTB (Search help: H_TOJTB)
    on 2 tabs.
    Thanks,
    Basu

    Hi
    1) Elementary search helps describe a search path. The elementary search help must define where the data of the hit list should be read from (selection method), how the exchange of values between the screen template and selection method is implemented (interface of the search help) and how the online input help should be defined (online behavior of the search help).
    2) Collective search helps combine several elementary search helps. A collective search help thus can offer several alternative search paths.
    3)An elementary search help defines the standard flow of an input help.
    4) A collective search help combines several elementary search helps. The user can thus choose one of several alternative search paths with a collective search help.
    5)A collective search help comprises several elementary search helps. It combines all the search paths that are meaningful for a field.
    6)Both elementary search helps and other search helps can be included in a collective search help. If other collective search helps are contained in a collective search help, they are expanded to the level of the elementary search helps when the input help is called.
    CREATION:
    Go to SE11  Tcode
    select search help
    give the 'z' search help name and create
    select the selection method ur table name eg : 'mara'
    dialog module 'display value immediately'.
    add the field whatever u want and lpos = 1 and spos = 1 and check import and export parameter.
    where left position when displaying and spos = search position
    and then save and activate ..
