ORA-1834 occuring with simplified chinese

Hi,
I got an error somewhere in my code, and I didn't find out where it is exactly. I read the error documentation, but I don't understand it. Perhaps it is my bad english? Could you give an example, when the err would occur? If I use AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHS16GBK, after I input Chinese characters, all Chinese characters will be retrieved as '?'. If I try NLS_LANG = SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK,
I get the error.
This is the description:
ORA-01834 day of month conflicts with Julian date
Cause: A Julian date was specified with the day of the month, but the month
day did not correspond to the Julian date. If the day of the month is specified
with a Julian date, it must be the same day of the month as the Julian date.
Action: Remove the day of the month value from the date specification or enter
the correct day of the month for the Julian date.

My guess is that somewhere in your application you are relying on implicit date conversion, i.e. something like
WHERE date_column > '01/31/2004'where you assume that '01/31/2004' will be converted into the date January 31, 2004. Different regions will have different default date formats, however, so many regions will try to convert this string to the first day of the 31st month of 2004, which obviously does not exist.
While you should not rely on implicit date conversion, you could try setting your NLS_DATE_FORMAT to force non-globalized code not to fail when you change the date format. Doing this, however, may cause display issues if you want to show Americans their familiar date format '01/31/2004' and Europeans their familiar date format '31/01/2004'.
