I see that there are several not needed date to char conversions. I could imaging that they confuse the query merge mechanism. Other than that: try to strip down the query to the smallest posisble set of colum combination. So that you can see where the error comes from.

Hi,
I have upgraded the database from 9.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.4 and for some time compatible parameter remained 9.2.0.0.
Recently i have changed compatible parameter to 10.2.0.4.Now I could open the database with pfile but when I am trying to open database with spfile then I am getting following error:--

ORA-27300 during night hours, restart database needed
Hi,
Last year we upgraded a small database system on several systems from Oracle 8.0.6 to Oracle XE.
We installed XE, dropped the XE database and created a new one with standard scripts. (We didn't need APEX)
Next we imported the data of the old database and tested the C++ applications on it. Everything worked fine.
We implemented it on several sites. The target system is usually:
OS: Windows 2000 SP4
Mem: 512 or 768 MB
Swap: 2 Gb
Now we have different errors on the sites, which all seem to be memory allocation problems.
The error usually occur outside working hours (no client activity, so the applications can't be blamed).
Eventually, the application usually gets a ORA-04030 error, unable to allocate xxx bytes of memory...,
or ORA-07445: exception encountered...
Is seems like some Oracle processes are stumbling over their own feet, because nothing is done from the client side.
Here 's what is recorded in the alert.log

After I tried several memory setting without success, I returned to the old-fashioned 8.0.6 settings,
hoping Oracle would allocate less memory from OS.
- I turned off automatic memory management (delete SGA_target parameter and used db_block_buffers, etc)
- I set WORKAREA_SIZE_POLICY to MANUAL (speed wasn't an issue, so I deleted PGA_aggregate_target from spinit, and used sort_area_size)
The system parameters became:

After this, it appeared that the error still occured from time to time, but this time
Oracle was able to restart the process. This is what was shown in the alert.log

This pattern repeats itself. The database makes one or a few logfile changes, and then the m000 process fails, but is eventually started again.
Well, the good thing is, that for the end user seems to be solved (so far).
My questions to y'all:
- Is this problem related to bug 5607984 "- ORACLE DOES NOT CLOSE TCP CONNECTIONS. REMAINS IN CLOSE_WAIT STATE. [On Windows 32-bit]"?
If Yes, can I do anything to solve it except waiting for the next version of XE?
If No, then what else can be the cause?
- Am I just fighting symptoms here, using the old Oracle 8 parameters?
- Are there other/better ways to workaround this problem?
- Are some Oracle jobs, like SYS.AUTO_SPACE_ADVISOR_PROG or SYS.GATHER_STATS_JOB bugging me?
If yes, is it possible / advisable to stop these jobs?
- Any other recommendations?
Any comments are greatly appreciated.
kndrgrds,
Jan RAh, yes, I forgot. (It didn't help me much, though)

Symptoms
No new connections are allowed to the database.
Database appears to be in a hang state with following errors in the alert log:
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:spcdr:9261:4200 failed with status: 997
ORA-27301: OS failure message: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.
ORA-27302: failure occurred at: skgpspawn
Changes
The '/3GB' switch was added to the 'boot.ini' file at the OS level, but the errors are eventually encountered when the database is under heavy load.
Cause
OS resource issue.
The maximum amount of addressable memory by a process ('oracle.exe' for example) running in a
32-Bit Windows environment has been reached.
In a 32-Bit Windows environment, the total addressable memory by a single process is a 4GB. On
Windows, the OS reserves half of this memory by default for kernel memory, leaving 2GB of
addressable memory for a user process. By placing the '/3GB' switch in the 'boot.ini' file, this
changes the ratio of kernel memory and user memory. When the '/3GB' switch is in place, processes (such as 'oracle.exe’) can address 3GB of virtual memory out of the total 4GB of addressable memory. However, once the 3GB of virtual memory is depleted, the process will fail.
Solution
To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:
Tune the application running on the 32-bit environment so that it will not consume greater than
2.7GB of virtual memory when the '/3GB' switch is set in the 'boot.ini' file.
In the case of Oracle encountering the OS resource issue, the options are the following:
1) Reduce the amount of SGA needed to be allocated for the database.
2) Limit the number of dedicated connections to the database and the amount of memory each user
process will consume.
3) Change from dedicated connections to multi-threaded server (MTS) connections, as MTS only
uses a fraction of the amount of memory allocated to each user process when initial connection to
the database is established.
See following note for an in depth discussion regarding memory usage in a 32-bit Windows environment:

Multiple ORA-27300, ORA-27301 and ORA-27302 in alert log
Hello all,
Looking for some guidance with a 10.2.0.1 database on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition server. I have an SR open with Oracle, but getting the usual run-around and no conclusive explanations.
A couple of weeks ago, the database started throwing the following in the alert log:
Errors in file d:\oracle\admin\hdprd\bdump\hdprd_cjq0_404.trc:
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:WaitForSingleObject failed with status: 0
ORA-27301: OS failure message: The operation completed successfully.
ORA-27302: failure occurred at: sssxcpttcs5
Checking the trace file shows:

The database remains functional while this is happening, but we are no longer able to establish new sessions to the database. The only remedy so far, as is the case with most Windows issues, is to reboot the server. The support analyst has recommended that we add the "/3gb" switch to the boot.ini as he feels we are hitting the 2GB limitation for a single process. My concern is that in looking at the trace file, it would appear that there's only around 1.6GB of memory consumed in total on the server (8190M - 6548M = 1642M), so there should be no single process that's coming even close to the 2GB limitation. I've been watching the oracle.exe process for the last week, and it always hovers around 700M. The total SGA size is about 600M.
Interestingly enough, we're in the process of downgrading the database from Enterprise Edition to Standard edition and on the development server, we've currently got the old 10.2.0.1 EE database and the new 10.2.0.5 SE database running concurrently. The EE version has encountered the same issue described above, while the SE version has not.
My other problem is that I work in the pharmaceutical industry and this is a heavily regulated database and I cannot make arbitrary changes to databases/servers without evidence to support the change.
Any Oracle/Windows experts out there that can shed some light on this problem?
ThanksThanks to both of you for the speedy response. I have already seen that article, as well as 790397.1 - PROCESS J000 And M000 Die [ID 790397.1]. I'm just a little confused as to why Oracle is saying it's an out of memory condition when there's nothing in the log or trace files (other than the condition matches a couple of articles they have) that support the conclusion. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not an Oracle on Windows expert, most of my stuff revolves around Linux/UNIX and I avoid anything windows like the plague, other than starting a putty session.
My understanding is that each process in a windows 32bit environment gets a 4GB Virtual Address Space, which is split into a lower 2GB application space and an upper 2GB kernel space. If the trace file is showing that only 1.6GB of physical memory has been consumed, wouldn't this indicate that there isn't a single process on the server that is even close to reaching it's 2GB limitation? -
Hi ,
Running Oracle DB(10.2.0) Server on Solaris 10. the server refused connections for 5 minutes yesterday and I checked logs through EM webpage :

, I connected solaris 10 using ssh and checked processes, one of the user process was taking around 8G memory.
also one of oracle process is defunct :

I killed the user process and then it freed up the memory but oracle process is defunct , I don't know if it is related to this issue at all.

Can anyone please help regarding this issue and defunct oracle process?
ThanksWell, You should get one.
But this error is related to too low opsystem parameters. Check system logs (/var/adm), dmesg and others to see is there any at time of crash with some more detailed information.
Check You swap space, if some process ocuppied 8GB, then it can happen that You run out of swap.
and I would suggest to bounce database, kill all defunct processes and start database again. -

Hi All,
I have a Solaris 5.9 machine with Oracle 9.2.0 installed on it. But the connectivity to the database is lost intermittently.
I am getting the below mentioned message in the Alert Log:
ORA-27508: IPC error sending a message
ORA-27507: IPC error disconnecting from a port
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:DIS: NCON: connect failed: cnh 0 failed with status: 134

ORA-27303: additional information: DIS: NCON: connect failed: cnh 0x1039208e8, rqh 0x10391bfb8
After searching a lot on various forums, I could not get any resolution to the above errors.
Could someone please help me out with this issue.
Thanks a lot in advance. This was already clear from the initial error.
Your interconnect is functioning badly.
You need to address the errors 27300 and 27301.

Frequent ORA-00308 in Oracle Data Guard Scenario
Hi All,
We have oracle dataguard configured for DR for 9 production systems.
ODG works fine for all the systems, however for SAP SCM system I frequently get ORA-00308 in primary system .
The redo log generation rate in this system is high (Its like 70 logs 600MB each per day)
I get a gap of 2 to 3 logs & have to fix it manually by transfering the logs & register them manually.

Is it because of the network?
Also, there is an archive policy which runs on primary , it deletes archives every 8 hours
Thanks,
SalmanHi Stefan,
For this system, we have set up Arcn to ship the logs. For all other systems its LGWR async.
Oracle version is :
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit
PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
CORE 10.2.0.4.0 Production
TNS for HPUX: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
Please let me know if you need some more information

hi;
I'm totally new to the oracle databases field...am trying to startup the database using the parameter file init.ora by using the command
startup pfile='/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/init.ora'
But its giving me the following error:
ORA-00201: control file version 10.2.0.1.0 incompatible with ORACLE version
10.2.0.0.0
ORA-00202: control file:
'/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/control01.ctl'
Can anyone help me with this error?
Thanks!startup pfile='/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/init.ora'You are most likely using the wrong init.ora file. Get a list of files at /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/
For the database ORACLE_SID that you are attempting to startup, there would be an initSID.ora or spfileSID.ora
e.g. if the ORACLE_SID is PROD, the file would be initPROD.ora or spfilePROD.ora
The spfileSID.ora is a binary file and should not be accessed by a text-editor.

ORA-27300-1-2 Database on Windows 2003 was hung
Hi all,
Our 11g database running on windows 2003 was hung. We bounced the database and reduced SGA_MAX_SIZE/SGA_TARGET =900M from 1200M. Problem was resolve.
SGA_MAX_SIZE/SGA_TARGET =1200M
PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET=540M
Can anyone explain meaning of below line in trace file..
Memory (Avail/Total): Ph:1659M/4095M, Ph+PgF:13745M/16166M, VA:43M/2047M
1. Was there only 1659M available on Server for Oracle.exe?
2. Or Oracle.exe was looking for 1659M and could not get that?
3. What is the possiblity adding a /3g switch would have helped (if there was just 1659M free on server for Oracle , how /3g will help)

Mismatch between COMPATIBLE Parameter and Oracle Version
Hi,
If the ORACLE version is say 11g but the compatible parameter in init.ora is say 9.2.0 or 8.1.7 what will be the effect on the database?
Will the database behave as like 11g or of the lower version?
If we alter the init.ora to the new version for compatible paremeter will it affect DB rebooting?
This is an interview question and i could not answer.
