Ora8 and Ora9 ODBC coexist

I installed Oracle 8.1.7 first then 9.2.0, but encountered some problems while using ODBC to access remote database. I need two entries in Windows ODBC setting (using ODBC in Oracle9Home) to access two remote SID, one is working but the other isn't. My application calls the entries in Windows ODBC configuration to access DB, so the failed ODBC entry caused DB access failure.
I really don't know where I made mistake, I can use SQL*Plus to access the two SID (supposed to mean my tnsname settings are correct) and in ODBC setting, the Test Connection is also OK. I am curious why one works but the other not. If they both don't work not suprised me much. is anyone here has ever experienced such situation please advice me, appreciation in advance

If you have two Oracle Home's, and you have not set the TNS_ADMIN environemnt variable to point at a single tnsnames.ora file, you have two tnsnames.ora files on your machine. One tnsnames file will be used by the applications in the 8.1.7 Oracle home, the other tnsnames file will be used by the 9.2 Oracle home. I would wager that the tnsnames file in the 8.1.7 Oracle home has both of the TNS aliases, while the 9.2 Oracle home does not.
You can either add the other alias to the 9.2 tnsnames file or you can create a TNS_ADMIN environment variable that points to a single tnsnames file.

  • Lotus notes and SSIS ODBC connection not working

I have created an ODBC source.  I tried using this in SSIS workflow ODBC, when I test the connection, it crashes my Visual Studio 2010

    Hi Kathy,
Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
Based on your issue, could you please tell me if you connect the
Lotus notes and SSIS ODBC with ADO.NET like this following link.
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a6c32c6b-876a-4fd5-8faa-d6498a6755c7/updatedwhere-to-post-nonadonet-datagridview-tableadapter-odbcoledb-etc-questions?forum=adodotnetdataproviders
If possible, please share me more detailed steps about how to connect the
Lotus notes and SSIS ODBC in the VS2010.
In addition, could you please share me some crash error message in this VS2010 when test this connection?
To check if this issue is related to this VS IDE, I suggest you could try to connect
Lotus notes and SSIS ODBC on other machine and then check if you still get this issue.
    (1) If you still get this crash issue, I assume that this issue is related to this connection
    Lotus notes and SSIS ODBC.
    (2) If you did not get same error message, I suggest you could try to restart your machine and then open this VS2010 as Admin on your local machine and then connect it check this issue again.
Please try to close the firewall software on some other progress from this Task Manager and then check this issue.
In addition, I suggest you could try to use this process monitor tool to check which process running when you test this connect.

  • Can delegate and strategy patterns coexist ?

Say I have an interface for persistence call that PersistenceInterface.
Now for MySQL I created MySQLPersistenceClass and for DB2 I created one more class DB2PersistenceClass.
Now to proceed with my busines slogic I have a class BusinessLogicHandler class.
BusinessLogicHandler has a class member say persistenceObject of type PersistenceInterface. Now certainly I'm switching the persistence based on the actual implementation so I say Im using STRATEGY pattern here
But for create operation from business layer i.e. BusinessLogicHandler.create directly invokes persistenceObject.create in this case can I say that Im using DELEGATE pattern also
So can I say the set of classes and interface = DELEGATE + STRATEGY ?
    Thanks a lot

Can someone please answer this ?yes
can I say the set of classes and interface = DELEGATE + STRATEGY ?yes
Can delegate and strategy patterns coexist ?yes
I'd say it would be odd to use Strategy not as a delegate.

  • Get the list of reports and their ODBC details

    Hi :
We have around 20,000 objects hosted on our BOXI R2 SP3 environment. May be around 17000 of these are reports. I have a few questions >>
    1. Is their a way to get the list of all the reports and their ODBC details. I tried running the following query 'Select Top 20000 SI_ID, SI_NAME, SI_PROCESSINFO.SI_LOGON_INFO From CI_INFOOBJECTS Where SI_PROGID = 'CrystalEnterprise.Report' and SI_INSTANCE = 'False'' in the query builder. But it times out.
    2. Will running this query using the sdk affect the stability of the environment.
    3. Is there a way to spilt the query into 4-5 batches to get 3000-4000 records at a time.
    4. Can we get the min(SI_ID) and max(SI_ID), how ?
    Regards,
    Abhijit Sanas

You can try batching on SI_ID, doing something like:
    "Select TOP 1000  SI_ID, SI_NAME, SI_PROCESSINFO.SI_LOGON_INFO From CI_INFOOBJECTS Where SI_PROGID = 'CrystalEnterprise.Report' and SI_INSTANCE = 0 and SI_ID > " + max_si_id_value + " ORDER BY SI_ID ASC"
then update the max_si_id_value each batch.  SI_ID and SI_PROGID are indexed properties, so they help.

  • Can Quicktime X and 7 Pro coexist?

Can Quicktime X and 7 Pro coexist? Can you have both installed at the same time? I would guess not. Man I really had to bite my tongue on this post! Okay, just one word - hodgepodge.

Hold it right there. One issue I found that I is causing me fits right now is that even if you have both X and 7 Pro installed it still has some how corrupted some of my export settings in compressor. Specifically it appears that the FLV quicktime export component is now non-functioning and only produces .FLV's with a very bad flicker in them:
    http://www.vimeo.com/6386852
    password - flash
In addition and I guess on a tangent I would recommend to any pro editors to do the clean install that so many have suggested for both Snow Leopard and the New FCP Studio as I am already having round tripping issues in color, and have experienced some crashes within Final Cut 7.0
Now I want to make clear that these are my assumptions before some engineer jumps down my throat. It is entirely possible that these issues are solely mine own and are not common or widespread but from a quick review of these forums I am not sure that is the case. But having the issues I have experienced since upgrading both softwares I made the decision today to initiate a 7 pass erase of the HD and a totally new install to achieve the speed and functionality that keeps me sane and not homicidal.
From one Devoted FCP editor to any other that will listen.

  • Can Logic Pro and Logic Express coexist on the same computer?

    Hi all,
I'm a fairly new user to logic. I started with Logic Express to test the water with it before committing to the Logic Pro. I decided I like it enough and have since purchased the Logic Pro upgrade.
My machine is a MacBook. This machine travels with me, so I am rather concerned about having to maintain a dongle when I am on the move.
Ideally, I would like to have both Logic Express and Logic Pro coexist on the same machine. That way, when I can reserve the use of Logic Pro for when I am in a stable environment but still be able to use Logic Express when moving around. Granted this would be with reduced functionality, but the peace of mind is worth that to me.
So does anyone here know if this is possible and can direct me to some instructions on how to accomplish this?
    Thanks!!
    Darth Vanva

I'd LOVE to be able to enable two simultaneous instances of Logic to accomplish what I want, but AFAIK that's an impossibility (unless a guru-whiz-type like Justin has some ideas on this...).
    OK, here's the deal...
I have 6 gigs of RAM now. While using Logic I can access up to 3G for samples. If I could somehow run another copy of Logic on the same computer (acting solely as a host for additional plugs, not for sequencing) then I'd gladly buy 2 more gigs of RAM so that the second instance of Logic could address 3G more. I'd still have 2G left for system headroom.
And there would be an additional (if not hypothetical) benefit to doing this...
Right now I can run stand-alone instruments outside of Logic (accessed via IAC) in an effort to overcome the 3G limit. But take GPO for example: I can only run 1 instance of it. And, there is no provision for saving any edits or custom made instrument sets in the stand-alone version. So not only would I be limited to 8 individual instrument slots in the lone GPO player, I wouldn't be able to save any custom programming. So much for recall... And of course, EXS is not a stand-alone plug so there's no way I could use it outside of Logic.
BUT... if I had this second instance of Logic running and treating it as a plug-in host, I'd be able to run multiple copies of plugs (just like I'm used to) and never have to deal with any stand-alone players. And of course by saving its song file I thus save all of my custom programming.
So yeah, it would be fantastic if I could run a second instance of Logic on the same computer. Theoretically.

  • Can 32bit and 64bit clients coexist?

    Hello folks,
I have a Windows Server 2003 64bit machine running Websphere 6.0 Express (32bit). Additionally it's running a custom 64bit application. Both apps need to connect to separate 10g databases. Can the 32bit and 64bit Oracle client installs coexist on this machine?
    Thanks for any advice!
    -Sangamon

To clarify, Websphere needs a 32bit JDBC driver, our custom application needs a 64bit ODBC driver. I've got Websphere working, but I'm having trouble getting the ODBC driver to work. I'm wondering if there's a problem with having 2 clients installed.

  • Oracle 8 and 8i ODBC drivers

I have written a win32 client application with Visual C++ for accessing an oracle 8.0.5 server on a linux platform.I have used an ODBC connection (MFC classes CDatabase e CRecordset). In application I have used a recordset on a view for updating the view's base table. On a view I have defined an instead of update trigger. All works fine. Now I must migrating it on an oracle 8.1.7 oracle server (or on win2k or linux). End now start the problem. On 8i server, after executing the query on the view, the function SQLGetStmtOption with SQL_CONCURRENCY param return SQL_CONCUR_READ_ONLY, making the recordset read only and i don't modify the view. What's the differences between Oracle 8 and Oracle 8i ODBC driver? Why with Oracle 8i I don't modify a view?
    null

    Executed query is
SELECT * FROM VIEW_NAME WHERE ID = value
where ID is a primary key of the only key preserving table of the view.

  • MS access,servlets and jdbc-odbc

when i try to connect to ms access database using servlet i get unable to open registry key DriverId problem.
servlet successfully extracts the form data.Even jdbc code alone works fine, but when jdbc code is embeded in servlet I get the above error.I am using java web server 2.0 and a jdbc-odbc(type 1) driver.
    Please help me.................!
I cannot proceed with my project without solving this problem.

You have not specified the exception class.
If it is java.security, try peeping into jws security directory, and set the access to your servlet directory.
I do not know this helped you or not.

  • Oracle 11g and iSeries ODBC 32/64bit version???

    Hi folks,
    I've some questions....
I need setup a new server with Oracle db 11g and from this db i need setup a DBLINK to an IBM iSeries (AS/400) server. I've some doubts about the 32/64 bit version to use.
    My idea is:
    Oracle Linux 64bit
    Oracle Database 11g 64bit
    Oracle Gateway 11g 64bit
IBM i Access ODBC driver 64bit ( maybe 7.1 version?!?!?!)
Do you think I'll be able to achieve my goal with this configuration?
Else where can you suggest me a valid and wonrking configuration?
    Thank you very much!!!!
    bye bye

    Emilio,
That combination of products should work, as long as the ODBC driver is 64-bit and satisfies the ODBC driver criteria listed in the documentation.
If you have access to My Oracle Support have a look at this note -
Note.561033.1 How to Setup DG4ODBC on 64bit Unix OS (Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX)

  • Ms-access XP front-end and oracle ODBC driver

    Hi all,
I need to set up 5 workstations with ms-access front end accessing an oracle database through Oracle ODBC 9.2.0.5.0 driver and linked tables.
My main concern is to learn about any issues that may limit what can and cant be done through access as opposed to an oracle client. I found out that the maximum size of an access XP database is 2GB, but I have not found accurate information as to the maximum number of records ms-access can handle per table. This would be of critical importance to me because the tables I'm working with may eventually hold up to hundreds of thousands of records.
Concurrency control is also an important topic since 2 or more of the clients may at some point read or write information on the same tables.
Answers to these questions and any other issues of special importance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot,
    JP.

Just seen this message you had posted to OTN. I am currently looking for some sample codes developing applications using MS Access as front end connected to Oracle database. I appreciate if you can provide me some sample codes that has a master-detail-relationship type of access form that performs an inserts into the master and detail table. Thanks a lot.

  • J2EE and JDBC-ODBC bridge driver

    Hi all,
in my application I want to access an ODBC database to get the data and put it into cloudscape. In my resources.properties I added the jdbc driver
    jdbcDriver.1.name=sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriverand also added a datasource
    jdbcDataSource.5.name=jdbc/MyOdbc
jdbcDataSource.5.url=jdbc\:odbc\:odbc-nameAfter starting j2ee 1.3.1 the server reports following error:
Error in creating data source object: jdbc/MyOdbcWhat's going wrong? Thanks for your help.
    -chris

    additional information:
The phenomenon happens only if I use J2SDK 1.4.0. Running the 1.3.1 the driver is loaded without any problems.
Is it a security issue or am I not allowed to use 1.4 because it's too new?

  • Oracle Forms and Report Server and MS IIS Coexists in one Server

    Dear All,
I have a Windows 2003 Server with two IPs and have IIS bind (10.1.1.20) to one IP and Oracle (10.1.1.21) bind to the other. But only one service can only run at any one time. Can someone help on how to make the two coexist on port 80 on different IP on one machine. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Kueh.

Default settings for forms session timeout is 15 Minutes. But heartbeat parameter (default 2 minutes) doesn't allow AS to close idle sessions. So define heartbeat=20 in your formsweb.cfg file.
As far as reports are concerned set engineResponseTimeout="15" in your report server configuration file. This setting will not allow any report to remain in the queue for more than 15 minutes.

  • Oracle 9i and Microsoft ODBC

Is Oracle 9i compatible with the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle Driver - version 2.573.9030.00?

    Hi,
I read your forums as you suggested. Specifically... here is what I am doing....
I’m running a macro to upload data from an Access97 application on an XP platform which is using the ODBC driver (Oracle in OraHome90 - version 9.00.11.00) to connect to an Oracle 9i database. It is taking over 25 minutes to complete the update. WHY?
I need to increase the performance, any suggestions?
    Note:
I cannot use the MS ODBC for Oracle driver to connect to the Oracle 9i database because it fails and passes back an “Action Error” on the “Dcount” which is a common ODBC failure.

ThanksInstall the Oracle client and use the Oracle driver. You're going to need it whether you use the MS driver or Oracles. ODBC drivers do not work apart from the client of the underlying database product.
When you do the install, you will need to do a custom install and specifically select for the Windows components.
