Oracle 10gR2 Install RHEL4 compat-libstdc++-296 problem

Trying to install Oracle 10gR2 on an Red Hat Enterprise 4 server and having an issue.
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$ uname -a
Linux xxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp #1 SMP Mon Sep 25 17:28:02 EDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$
The OUI, during Product-Specific Prerequisite Checks reports the following error:
Checking for compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2; found Not found. Failed <<<<
However, the rpm package is installed:
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$ rpm -q compat-libstdc++-296
compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$
The only thing I have been able to find so far is to make sure the package is installed.
There is also another compat-libstdc++ installed:
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$ rpm -q compat-libstdc++-33
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$
is that somehow causing a problem? How does the OUI actuall check for package dependancies?
Any pointers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Jeff

Hi Jeff, you will have to install other packages from the RHEL4 cd's. Here is a list of what I usually run. Some are in the oracle install docs and some are not. If you are using the CDs then first cd to the cdrom
cd /media/cdrom
rpm -ivh ncompress-4.2.4-40.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh glibc-common-2.3.4-2.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh gcc-3.4.3-9.EL4.i386.rpm --aid
rpm -ivh gcc-c++-3.4.3-9.EL4.i386.rpm --aid
rpm -ivh sysstat-5.0.5-1.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh libaio-0.3.102-1.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386.rpm
P.S. I usually copy all the files from the install media to a mounted share on my network and it makes this really easy.

Hi,
You got these errors because runInstaller can not start the GUI. There are 2 solutions, you can choose one:
1. logout Gnome/Kde, login as oracle user, and run runInstaller again.
2.open a new root terminal,
a) run "xhost +" as root.
b) run "su - oracle" switch to oracle
c) run "export DISPLAY=:0.0"
d) then run "./runInstaller" again.
cheers.

How can I tell if I have compat-libstdc++-33.3.2.3-47.3 or compat-libstdc++-33.3.2.3-47.3.i386 installed? If I do a 'rpm -ql compat-libstdc++-33', it shows up in /usr/lib and /usr/lib64. I need to ensure I have compat-libstdc++-33.3.2.3-47.3.i386 for the install.

• New IP caused a problem to launch DBConsole & listener (Oracle 10gR2)

Guys,
I have installed Oracle 10gR2 on XP system. My dev machine does not have permanent IP address and recently it has been changed.
As a result I can launch Listener and Enterprise Manager - it‘s a problem to start OracleDBConcoledev01 and OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener.
My sid name is dev01. I found 2 folders where the old IP is involved:
<c:\oracle\ora1020\db01\192.168.188.71_dev01> and
<c:\oracle\ora1020\db01\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole_192.168.188.71_dev01>

• JRE Error : while Install oracle 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003

Hello,
I am trying to install a Oracle 10gR2 on windows server 2003.
I have unziped the files and when I run the oui.exe it gives the below error:
cannot find any matches for wildcard specification "../stage/components/oracle.swd.jre/1.5.0.0./1/DataFiles/*.jar
Error : JRE missing in Scratch Path
I tried changing the oraparmaini file but it did not allow to make any changes.
Not sure if its looking for any particular java files.
What should i edit ,to specify the java location.
Thanks

What exactly did you unzip? This error occurs if there are several zip-files extracted to different target locations. But - if I remember correctly - 10gR2 database is only one zip-file, so you should not face this issue. JRE for OUI is part of the downloaded software,so you don't need to specify a location for JRE, OUI knows where to find this.

• How to check for Optional Oracle 10gR2 components installed?

Hi
How can I get a list of all optional oracle database components/features installed (some of them may require additional license)? I was going through list of directory objects in a database and I spotted "ORACLE_OCM_CONFIG_DIR" in one of the databases (others don't have it). When I checked, it turned out to be a directory required for Oracle Configuration Manager (this may even be a totally separate install).
I have to configure a new oracle database server where I have to install whatever is installed on an existing one.
Oracle 10gR2 - RHEL 5.8
Please advise!

Thanks for your response. I just checked the output and "Oracle Configuration Manager" is not listed.

• Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.

Hello guys,
Problem has been solved -
Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.
1. If you install 64 bit oracle this is not an issue. Install 64 bit oracle.
2. Download odp.net 32 bit from below link:-
ODP.NET Managed Driver Beta Download</title><meta name="Title" content="ODP.NET Managed Driver B…
3. installed the odp.net.
4. open the visual studio 2010.
5.Select new - project - asp.net web application - project name -ok
6.select tools- > connect to database- then follow the following steps
i> user name - your user name/client username (example -- hr)
ii> password -- enter your password/client password (example- hr)
iii>select connection type -- if you want to connect client database then- select EZ connect other wise select tns
iv>test the connection- then you will get connection succeed.
v> then click ok
Thanks
Chandrashekhar

You do not need to do anything in VS. You do need to configure both tnsnames.ora files, because the drivers do not share any data.

• Install Oracle 10gR2 on Windows x64

Is this possible to install Oracle 10gR2 on Windows 2008 x64 ?
I though that there aren't any difference between 2003 and 2008, but during reading this presentation:
http://www28.cplan.com/cbo_export/PS_S291788_291788_176-1_FIN_v2.pdf (login: cboracle pass: oraclec6) I saw that installation on Windows 2008 is "PLANNED"?! Can someone explain more?

tutus wrote:
So what thas mean planned?You'd have to ask Christian Shay (apparent author of the document) but given that the document is nearly two years old and 10g is now entering 'sustaining' support without having been certified on Win 2008, I'd guess it means their "plans" changed.

provide the steps to configure the kernal parameters with respect to my configuration.

hi rajesh,
thanks for your quick reply. but in sun solaris 10 do we need to change the entries in /etc/system.
as per
Oracle® Database

10g Release 2 (10.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC
64-Bit)
B15690-02

Note: In Solaris 10, you are not required to make changes to the
/etc/system file to implement the System V TPC. Solaris 10 uses
the resource control facility for its implementation.
do we need to chanage the values as specified or how to proceed.?
im confused in these with respect solaris 10.
