Hello,
RedHat9 is not supported for any Oracle database release. Nevertheless you can try the following:
(in bash:) export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1
(in tcsh:) setenv LD_ASSUME_KERNEL 2.4.1
The following URL contains further hints:

  • Oracle developer suite installed under a different Oracle Home

    I have Oracle 10g r2 installed on a RHAS4 server.
I installed Oracle developer suite 10.1 on this server. In the installation procedures, there are specific instructions to not install it under the ORACLE_HOME for an existing database installation.
Oracle was already installed under /usr/lib/oracle (don't ask me why, I didn't do it).
I installed oracle developer suite under /oracle/dev. If I set ORACLE_HOME to /usr/lib/oracle, proc responds with:
Symbol `kpccapCTarr' has different size in shared object, consider re-linking
PCC-F-NOERRFILE, unable to open error message file, facility PR2
If I set ORACLE_HOME to /oracle/dev, it works correctly.
This appears to require me to switch my oracle home setting each time I switch between using Pro*C and sqlplus. This in very inconvenient. I have worked on many, many systems in the past which had one ORACLE_HOME for both the RDBMS and the development tools.
Is this a new constraint introduced by Oracle? Where does this restriction come from?
Is there something I don't understand and have I installed the developer suite incorrectly?

It looks to me this is a mess; i have installed oracle 10g on rhas4 and it didn't install under that folder. I'd suggest to run oui/run installer and show what are the oracle_homes found there; maybe you should reinstall it in the proper locations, under different accounts, etc.

  • Personal Oracle on an iMac under Soft Windows?

Has anyone ever used or seen Personal Oracle on an iMac running under Soft Windows or similar? If so, what did you think of the performance?

    Mark-
As BB said, you would definitely need an emulator such as Virtual PC to run that software on the Macintosh platform.
I do not believe that any of the Windows emulating products on the market can achieve the performance level that has been specified as a platform.
Unfortunately you will need a PC.
Perhaps you should make lemonade out of the lemons and try to at least get a nice laptop or something to do the PC work in, while sitting in front of YOUR Mac?

  • Oracle 9 and PHP under Redhat 9

    Hi,
I am planning to migrate my current web server from
redhat 7.x to 9 and I am currently evaluating what may
go wrong or need special attention before I actually
    replace it.
After searching the archives and other lists I still
    have a question :
    a) oracle support
For the current setup I've downloaded and installed
    the oracle 8i (8.1.5) in a separate machine, tar.gz
the lib directory in order to compile and run php with
oracle 8i in my production server.
Is this the best approach for Redhat 9 or should I try
to install oracle 9 which hopefully may have a
devel-only option ? Note that php needs to access
external oracle 8 servers which I do not mantain so compatibitity issues are important.
    Regards.

I'm in a similar situation where i'm migrating from Win2k + PHP & want oracle support to connect to a remote server.
I got as far as installing redhat 9 & installing the oracle client.
I still can't get oracle to work in PHP though. doing a bit of research I dont think the redhat 9 RPM's come with oracle support compiled. I really dont want to be maintaining custom compiled php versions i'd rather just have up2date do it all. I hear you can get ODBC to work with oracle, but most of the stuff i've looked at covers doing this on windows, not linux.
If anyone out there has manager to get PHP & oracle working on RH9, without re-compiling PHP please let me know!

  • Oracle Portal returns 500 error running under Weblogic 11g server

I've got Oracle Portal set up under Weblogic 11g.
SSO running, talking to OID 11g, also running under the same Weblogic 11g server. Tested SSO, it is working well.
After the install (no errors or issue on install), I go to http://<server>:8090/portal/pls/portal and geta Error 500 - Internal Server Error.
I traced down the problem to OHS - in ohs1.log:

  • Reports which generate Excel output do not open under ie8/Oracle Forms

    Hello,
we run Oracle Forms (regardless whether under Jinitiator 1.3.1.22(28) or SUN JVM) and generate Excel output with Oracle Reports (web.show_document). This works well under Internet Explorer 6 (ie6) but not under Internet Explorer 8 (ie8).
The effect ist that a new browser window opens and closes very quickly without anything further happening.
I honestly assume that this has not to do with oracle reports but ask this nevertheless in this forum as there might be people which made the same experiences...
I additionally found out that the same problem exists when gerenating excel or ms word output via a db procedure (with http. modules). There I found that suppressing the question (open/save/cancel) before opening a file (via the windows explorer file type association menu) helped with excel and ms word output (but this might be regarded as a not satisfying workaround).
The problem persists with other applications' file types than XLS or DOC which are also correctly registered on the client.
I'm not sure whether mimetypes sent along with the files (which were obviously correct with ie6) play a role in this problem.
    Peter

    Hello,
Your problem with IE 8 seems to be similar to the one discussed here :
IE7 windows opened and closed immediatly

    t_Explorer/Q_23304982.html
You can test the solution suggested :
We have found the setting that we needed, under the Internet Options
Security tab, if you select the internet zone, and click the custom level

Perhaps you can live with a wrapper script for starting sqlplus or proc meanwhile ?
