Starting Oracle 8i listener when under stand alone Windows NT 4.0 workstation.

Hi,
I am finding it difficult to start oracle listener under a stand alone Windows NT4.0 workstation. My NT machine is stand alone and not connected to any n/w. Since I was not able to bring up listener, I was not able to create any database. I have installed Oracle8i Enterprise Edition on my machine. Please help.

I have attached the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora.

• " Starting Oracle Net Listener......." Hangs while installing vm manager

Ive taken all defaults read install guide , checked availability of ports and made sure I have libaio.
I've reinstalled on two separate machines and everytime install fails after I accept defaults. Logs don't show anything. ./oracle-xe configure is the only thing in the log.
If I run this again it fails or hangs in the same place. ?????Im not sure where the netlistener is otherwise Id try to manually install?start ?
"Starting Oracle Net Listener"

I have noticed the same thing on my install where it hangs on starting the listener. BUT. .. If you hit enter while it is hanging it will continue to the next step of starting the db. . It seems like it is waiting for some input but not displaying that on the screen. I would not suspect any input from a start listener. .This is my experience. Any others see this?

I need help please:
I have installed Oracle 10g Express Edition without struggles ( Little curious about the fact
that the directory /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/config/log/ is empty).
% /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure --> worked good without default settings.
% /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start --> is silent : No verbose or messages in term.
I can't connect to server http://localhost:8080/htmldb or http://localhost:8080/apex.
I uninstalled and re-installed Oracle 10g... Now the command:
% /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure --> Oracle is already configured.
But the connection to the server always fails.

• Error 10403 when using Stand-Alone Application and DAQPad 6020E

On the computer I have LabVIEW on, I can run my VI and also I can run the stand alone application of that VI. But I can NOT run the stand alone applicaiton of that VI on a 2nd computer with out LabVIEW. I get error # 10403. I belive I build the VI correctly and loaded the proper software/driver because I have found I can run a simple stand alone application VI that does not communicate with my DAQPad 6020E. The second computer does reconize the DAQPad 6020E under the Divice Manager. I tried using differnce divice numbers for the AO and AI...

Hi,
The first thing you need to check is make sure the same DAQ driver is installed on both computers. Then, you need to make sure that you can view the device in the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). Once you can do this, then you will need to make sure the LV Run-Time Engine is installed on the stand-alone comp. This needs to be the same version as LabVIEW that is installed on the computer where the application was developed.
I hope this helps.

• Using Oracle iStore 11i as a stand-alone product

Hi,
We're looking into the possibilities of using Oracle iStore 11i at client's site. Our questions is: Do you need to have the entire back-end database in place in order to use the iStore or can you configure iStore as "stand-alone" product? If a stand-alone option is possible, what modules are required?
Thanks!
David

I think you may have the Aggregator confused with the Multi-SCORM Packager tool.
Aggregator comes with Cp5x standalone. The Multi-SCORM Packager only comes with either Cp4 or the E-Learning Suites. You cannot purchase it as a standalone product from Adobe. I am on record as stating that I thought this tool should have remained a default part of the Captivate installation (as it was before Cp5x). However, that's Adobe's prerogative.
If you do not have access to Multi-SCORM Packager, Google for information about RELOAD Editor. That might provide an alternative solution.

• SSH issue when converting stand alone to RAC -- manually

Hi All,
I face an issue with SSH when trying to convert a stand alone database to RAC (2 node). I am trying the manual way.
Plan:
Migrate the filesystem to ASM
Install the cluster
Create another ASM instance on node 2
Create another DB instance on node 2
Register the new ASM and DB instance with cluster manually
I have successfully completed the filesystem conversion to ASM.
When performing the pre requisites for cluster installation, i am facing problem when configuring the SSH.
Node 1 -- Has the existing stand alone database
Unable to do SSH from node 1 to node 1 (self) or from node 2 to node 1.
However i am able to SSH from node 2 to node 1 and node 2 to node 2 (self)
Steps which i tried already:
1)Created another user(test) on both the nodes and try to establish SSH to see if configuration problem is with this current user (RAC1). SSH configured successfully with user test
2)Copied the profile of RAC 1 user on node 2 to node 1 and retried the SSH configuration. But it failed
3)Dropped the user RAC1 on node 1, deleted all the hidden files in home directory so that they can be created freshly when the user (RAC1) is recreated. Tried SSH configuration again and it failed
Can you please help me to fix this issue and identify the root cause of this.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

user 777111 wrote:
I face an issue with SSH when trying to convert a stand alone database to RAC (2 node). I am trying the manual way. What operating system?
To create automated ssh connectivity between 2 accounts (same platform, or different platforms, does not matter):
1. generate a ssh key for the current account (command: ssh-keygen -t rsa)
2. create the file +$HOME/.ssh/authorized_keys+ and copy all the RSA public keys from all accounts that are trusted (this includes the current account's public key) - public key file is +$HOME/.ssh/id_rdsa.pub+
3. manually test connectivity from the trusted account to the other accounts - as the signatures of those servers need to be accepted and stored in +$HOME/.ssh/known_hosts+
When setting this up for RAC, you first need to generate the RSA keys and then do the above on one node. Create +$HOME/.ssh/authorized_keys+ containing all RSA public keys. Build +$HOME/.ssh/known_hosts+ by ssh'ing from that node to the other nodes (do not need a successful logon - only need to accept servers signatures).
When done, copy both these files to the +$HOME/.ssh+ directory on all other RAC nodes.

• HTTP Server under stand-alone-apache new thread

Sorry I closed the other thread too soon thinking I had a solution by creating an alias for libdb.so.2. ButI was mistaken.
So once again:
I made an installation of Oracle HTTP-Server from the Companion-CD Release 10.2 for Linux 64bit in a Suse Enterprise 10 SP1 environment.
Installation was successfu. HTTP-Server now starts without error messages.
But if I try to include the plsql.conf in the http_conf_local of the stand_alone-apache version 2.0 I get the message
'cannot load modplsql.so. Wrong ELF class. ELFCLASS32.
In the meantime I have learned that you can use 32bit-classes under 64bit Linux.
But do I have to do to get them accepted?
Thanks in advance for further help.
Christine

Well, after some more research I ended up doing the following:
New aim is to have a fully working oracle HTTP-Server beneath another Apache and redirecting incoming URLs with /pls/ to the Oracle-HTTP-Server
-remove all includes from the other Apache pointing to my HTTP-Server
- correct file owner mismatches by giving the oracle user the ownership on all files within the oracle_home-path with a chown-command
- correct file group mismatches by relating all files within the oracle_home_path with group dba using a chgrp-command
After that the opmn-demon was able to start with ./opmnctl start
Trying to start HTTP-Server with ./opmnctl startproc ias-component=HTTP_Server failed, but now I got logs to investigate.
-disabled two lines in httpd.conf:
#LoadModule rewrite_module libexec/mod_rewrite.so
#LoadModule dbm_auth_module libexec/mod_auth_dbm.so
then HTTP_Server starts.
Why it can't load the mentioned modules I do not know, they are present where they are supposed to be.
Redirect the outside listening apache to my HTTP-Server by adding into it's http_conf_local:
ProxyPass /pls/ http://localhost:7780/pls/
ProxyPassReverse /pls/ http://localhost:7780/pls/
ProxyPass /htdocs/ http://localhost:7780/htdocs/
ProxyPassReverse /htdocs/ http://localhost:7780/htdocs/

• HELP! Oracle FailSafe - Listener fails when adding standalone database

Well, I have a cluster of two nodes with the following specs:
(1) an Oracle 10g database each
(2) Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS)
(3) Windows Server 2003 64-bit edition
(4) Intel Itanium Processor
(5) Oracle Failsafe 3.3.3 for Windows 2003 64-bit
The 64-bit Oracle Failsafe doesn't come with Oracle Failsafe Manager, so I used a Failsafe Manager remotely from another clustered servers. The version is also 3.3.3, but it's running on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
Well, after connecting to the 64-bit cluster, I added the standalone database to a Cluster Group. There are two cluster groups on the Server:
(1)"Cluster Group" (the default cluster group created by MSCS); containing an IP address, a network name, Oracle Cluster Services, and the Quorum hard drive.
(1)"ORACLE DB" A cluster gropu I created for the database; containing another IP address, a network name for the IP address, and every hard drive volumes of the database files.
The database currently resides on the Node 2 (because I created it there). I have successfully verified the database (using "Verify Standalone Database" option). BUT when I added the database into the cluster group ORACLE DB, it failed with the following message:
23 20:48:48 ** ERROR : FS-10066: Failed to start Windows service OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener for the Oracle Net listener
When I opened the Windows Event Viewer, apparently the Listener Service had started, but it soon "terminated unexpectedly":
At first, the Listener Service appeared to be started:
But this is what happened next; it seemed the Listener Service terminated abruptly after entering the running state for a very short time:
What happened? What should I do? What is the problem? Many thanks!
PS: the following are the messages from both Verifying Standalone Database and Adding Standalone Database. The verification was successfull, but I just failed to add the database:

• Having problem creating Database on Oracle8i installed on a stand alone NT 4.0

Hi,
I have installed Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition on my stand alone Windows NT4.0 work station (Service Pack 3). After installation, it tries to create a sample database and just hangs there. I also tried aborting it and creating it using "Database Configuration Assistant" and still facing the same problem. It doesn't show any error but just hangs indefinitely at the database creation menu. I observed that the listener is not running.
Kindly let me know if there are any precautions to be taken while installing a Oracle 8i on Stand alone Windows NT. My NT is NOT CONNECTED to any network. Also, let me know how I can create a database when listener is not running.
Regards,
Sheshachala

I installed 816 EE on my home NT40 workstation without any troubles. Please make sure that you've suttisfied all installation requirements as written in the Installation Guide.Install other version of Servis Pack. I am usinn SP6. Alo you can try to copy a sample database from cd without creating it
