Oracle apache shutting down
Hi, I will be grateful if someone can help me on this. Our E-business suite apache seems to go down and I have not been able to get the causes. I have checked the logfiles for error under iAS_HOME/apache/apache but no luck. Which of the logfiles will really contain the causes?.
What I do now is restart it using adapcctl.sh everytime people start calling to complain.
Thanks for your contributions>
Are you getting any javacore or heapdumps? They will be under one of your $Temp directories on the app server. It could indicate you are hitting an iAS parameter limit.

if the user(s) is using the servlet, everything works. but when the user stops working, approximately 2-3hours after the last user action our servlet is stopped (the container shuts down). it restarts of course when the user tries to access it again, but our servlet does a lot of background computation for a long time. it shouldn't be shut down. it has to run all the time. maybe there is a setting in oracle which shuts down unused servlets?
There is a timeout you can specify in web console. It counts since last user accessed servlet and than servlet is removed from memory. Default is maybe 60 minutes?Probably nobody assumed some servlet can do work in background for such a long time.

I installed oracle 9i on windows xp 2002 service pack2 before 20 days, it was working fine till now but now when i try to login from scott user with correct password it is giving oracle initialization or shut down in progress error and not letting me login.

Cause: An inconsistent set of control files, datafiles, and redo log files

Action: Use a consistent set of control files, datafiles, and redo log files.
That is, all the files must be for the same database and from the same
time period.
edit you pfile, and set the control file as only any one of that and startup, If not try with second one. check by which controlfile you can able to open database, so that later you can multiplex the controlfile. -
HELP!!! Problem with FMS on port 80 is shutting down Apache on my server!
Hello all,
I own FMIS 3.5. I had it installed on a VPS earlier this year and it worked fine. I later uninstalled it and moved to a NEW VPS with the same hosting comoany (Lunar Pages). Again, it worked fine.
NOW...
They are telling me that because FMIS is listening on port 80 (when I installed FMIS, I left the port settings as recommended, 1935,80 and 1111 for the admin) that it is shutting down Apache. For what it's worth, I did not install Apache when I installed FMIs on my NEW VPS because I figured I didn't need it as I was installing to a server.
The conflicting application is fmsedge which is running on port 80. Can ANYONE recommend an alternate port for fmsedge?
I am completely at a standstill with this, all my sites are down. The host tells me that Apache needs to run on port 80.
I am developing several websites that will use FMIS for RTMP streaming.
The worst part is that this worked before and suddenly is causing a problem
PLEASE help if you can. I am stuck.
Thank you in advance for your help!!!
Sincerely,
wordmanGraeme,
Thank you as usual!
FMS is set up on 1935 and 80, but I do have a second IP and will try that approach.
Will let you know how it goes!
Thank you!!!
Sincerely,
wordman -
Oracle XE Not Shutting Down Cleanly
Hello all.
I've installed an Oracle XE on an Oracle EL 5.5.
Everything looks fine, except for the shutdown script. It does startup nicely with system starts, but if I shutdown the OS, the database just crashes, instead of shutting down cleanly.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.Thu Sep 16 19:25:47 2010

Oracle intialization or shut down in progress
Hello every one
i have installed database 10g release 2 on windows 2003 R2 standard edition
and after creating DB with SID orcl with no logic reason when i connect to it
it gave me oracle intialization or shut down in progress message and doesn't connect
The H/W of the machine is
Processor :4 intel xeon cpu 3.6ghz
hard disks:5HDD SCZI (each 147 GB)
ram : 4G ramHi
Did you try this?
On command prompt type
SET ORACLE_SID=ORCL
SQLPLUS "/ AS SYSDBA"
If it connects to an idle instance you will have to startup the DB.
SQL>STARTUP
One more thing you can try is to SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE or SHUTDOWN ABORT and then STARTUP again to confirm that DB starts normally.
Also, do you see any errors in the alert log file?
Regards
Adnan

Error ORA-01033 oracle intialization or shut down in progress
Hi ,
I am getting the error when i try to login to oracle
Error ORA-01033 oracle intialization or shut down in progress.
i waited for much time but i get the same error.can some one help.
Thanks442321, if a startup is in process you will need to either let it complete or cancel it in order to connect with a non sysdba session.
You cancel the startup the same way you would kill a hung shutdown by connecting as sysdba and then issueing a shutdown abort.
You should review the alert log prior to issuing an abort to see what is going on.

Haraprasad...When i am going to login to Toad, it is showing an error like "Toad: Oracle initialization or shut down in progress".The error self describes itself. The database isn't up or is being shut down while you are connecting.
log on to server and execute the below steps:
sqlplus / as sysdba
select open_mode from v$database;
if you see "READ WRITE" you can then log in by whichever way you want.

Shutting Down Oracle Normally in Unix
Hi All,
We faced a problem since 2 days before that our HP-UX(B11.23, ia64) has been restarted due to a known bug. according to this bug the o/s shutted down itself. When it do so it kills one of the oracle RAC instances that we have. Is there a way like it is in widnows to tell the operating system when it shuts down itself it should issue shutdown immediate command rather than just killing the oracle processes. In widnows there is a registery key called ORA_ORCL_SHUTDOWNTYPE the value of it is "i" which tells windows if oracle service want to be shutted down close it immediate.
A final note we have HP-UX version
HP-UX grpdb1 B.11.23 U ia64 3879138104
with 2 RAC instances.
Regards;Hi,
to tell the operating system when it shuts down itself it should issue shutdown immediate commandIn the OS, it;a easy, just write a shell script:
http://www.remote-dba.net/t_ault_24_svrmgr_sysdba_pmon.htm
For complete script, I recommend Jon Emmons book "Oracle Shell Scripting":
http://www.rampant-books.com/book_2007_1_shell_scripting.htm
Hope this helps. . .

Oracle Reports server 10g shutting down and starting automatically
Hi ,
My 10g Reports server runs on Redhat v4.0 .
From few days reports server log show that Reports Server is shut down and starts up automatically.

*** 2007/8/29 1:46:18:389 -- Reports Server started up engine rwEng-0
what might be reason for above issue ?
Thanks ...
RajuThe reports server is not shutting down but rather engines used by the reports server are being stopped and started. A reports engine requests data from the data source, formats the report, sends the output to cache, and notifies the Reports Server that the job is complete. These engines are cycled like connections in a connection pool. You can configure them in the ORACLE_HOME\reports\conf\rwservlet.properties file. Look here for details:
