Oracle BPEL Transaction Attribute

Hello,
We have a scenario to handle Transactions using three parallel sequences those invoke stored procedures. The stored procedure would return success/failure on the out parameter.
Based on the failure (out parameter), we would like to do a rollback all the stored procedures inserts/updates. In my scenario, the 3rd procedure would send failure.
I tried using participate attribute as follows,
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
<BPELSuitcase>
<BPELProcess id="ParalleFlow" src="ParalleFlow.bpel">
<partnerLinkBindings>
<partnerLinkBinding name="client">
<property name="wsdlLocation">ParalleFlow.wsdl</property>
<property name="transaction">participate</property>
</partnerLinkBinding>
<partnerLinkBinding name="Temp1DB">
<property name="wsdlLocation">Temp1DB.wsdl</property>
<property name="retryInterval">60</property>
<property name="transaction">participate</property>
</partnerLinkBinding>
<partnerLinkBinding name="Temp2DB">
<property name="wsdlLocation">Temp2DB.wsdl</property>
<property name="retryInterval">60</property>
<property name="transaction">participate</property>
</partnerLinkBinding>
<partnerLinkBinding name="Temp3DB">
<property name="wsdlLocation">Temp3DB.wsdl</property>
<property name="retryInterval">60</property>
<property name="transaction">participate</property>
</partnerLinkBinding>
</partnerLinkBindings>
<configurations>
<property name="transaction" encryption="plaintext">participate</property>
</configurations>
</BPELProcess>
</BPELSuitcase>
But I have observed that inserts/updates have happened in the first and second tables.
Note: 1 )Stored procedure do not have any commit statement.
2) Each stored procedure is called by DB adapter (separately).
3) Each sequence has a throw logic with BPELX:rollback on the condition of failure from stored procedure.
4) All the three sequences have been enclosed in a single scope that has a catchall block that throws the BPELX:rollback as well.
Thanks
Nags.

Hi,
I'm trying to employ the transaction property like this but it's not working:
<partnerLinkBinding name="GetPartyID">
<property name="wsdlLocation">GetPartyID.wsdl</property>
<property name="retryInterval">60</property>
<property name="idempotent">false</property>
*<property name="transaction">participate</property>*
</partnerLinkBinding>
<partnerLinkBinding name="GetPartyAcctSiteInfo">
<property name="wsdlLocation">GetPartyAcctSiteInfo.wsdl</property>
<property name="retryInterval">60</property>
*<property name="transaction">participate</property>*
</partnerLinkBinding>
<partnerLinkBinding name="UpdateShiptoUse">
<property name="wsdlLocation">UpdateShiptoUse.wsdl</property>
<property name="retryInterval">60</property>
*<property name="transaction">participate</property>*
</partnerLinkBinding>
to ensure that all database transaction within this BPEL process will be within the same session.
However, I’m not sure if this property can be used along with “idempotent” which I think initiates a new transaction as well (anyways I tried without the “idempotent” property and does not seem to work either). Also, I’m not sure if I should apply this property to the partnerlink that invokes this process that contains the above database/EBS partnerlinks. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Y.Ali

  • BPEL Transaction Management from Client Caller

    Hi Guys,
    I have read many articles and postings so far on transaction management, but they all seem to relate to within the BPEL process itself. I want to know if the following is doable within BPEL and if so how to configure it.
    - I have a J2EE application that integrates with BPEL through the ITaskService (using Remote EJBs underneath the cover) - Oracle BPEL is installed on a separate machine on the OC4J container.
    - So, is there a way for the operations done to the ITaskService to participate in my J2EE application's transaction, to give you an example:
    - Begin Transaction()
    - user does something that results in updating a task's attribute
    - some other operations are being performed; if there is an exception thrown, roll back
    - End Transaction()
    Thanks very much in advance.
    Drew

    Hi Drew,
    Please refer Antony Reynold's blog:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/reynolds/2008/09/transaction_processing_in_bpel.html
    It says when the BPEL Process is invoked from a java API that has its own
    transaction context, the BPEL Process also will participate in the same
    transaction context.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Vasanth

  • Problem to start BPEL Console of Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.3.1.0

    Hi everyone!
    I'm writing to yours because I installed Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.3.1.0 but I can't start BPEL Console. I tried to start it by the option menu of Windows XP and by Developer Prompt, but I get a HTTP 404 Not Found page. When I was installing the universall installer told me that it wasn't possible to set ORACLE_HOME variable because it had a value older than 1023 characteres. So, I continue the installation but I can't start the BPEL Console. The Dos Console teld me sometimes when I put http://localhost:9700/BPELConsole..timed out. So, tell me how to resolve that problem.
    I'll be waiting your responses.

    Thanks for your responses.
    Greetings.

    Hi,
    you said:
    it wasn't possible to set ORACLE_HOME variable because it had a value older than 1023 characteres
    What do you mean with older than 1023 chars?
    I think the easiest way is to uninstall the BPEL Console and run the installer again with correcting the ORACLE_HOME problem...

    hi,erveryone,
    one difficult question need help.
    Environment: WLS8.1sp2 + WLI8.1sp2 + ORACLE9i + solaris9
    when I started archiver manually,just for a while, wli system generated about 40,000 JMS messages in

    following steps:
    (1) in WLI console, delete wli.internal.worklist.timer.queue;
    (2) in WLI console, reconstruct wli.internal.worklist.timer.queue;
    (3) restart wli server.

    The wli server generated log file very quickly ,:it can output 1M bytes log file per second,all logged information
    is similar to the <BEA-010049> excetpion metioned above. BEA support engineer suggested me to totally stop the
    archive ,I did so,but the server was still ouput the log file like crazy as before and the normal log information are
    completely override by <BEA-010049> excetpion.
    I checked the EntityEJBs in WLI console :Mywlidomain> Applications> WLI System EJBs> WLI Worklist Persistence$)A#,and
    found that in statistics table :
    ListenerBean : Pool miss ratio = 99.67%, transaction rollback ration = 99.90%,Destory Bean Ratio = 99.48%(see
    attachment)
    WorklistTimerMDB: transaction rollback ratio = 99.97%
    It seems ListenerBean worked incorrectly.I searched in support.bea.com and found one example which also about server
    output endless log file,the author solved this problem by changing Bean's transaction-attribute from 'Required'
    to 'RequiresNew' thought he didn't know why it works. I try this method by changing ListenerBean's
    transaction-attribute from 'Required' to 'RequiresNew'.
    $weblogic_home/integration/lib/wli-ejbs.ear/ejb-jar-generic.xml:
    <ejb-name>CommentBean</ejb-name>
    <method-name>*</method-name>
    </method>
    <trans-attribute>Required</trans-attribute>
    </container-transaction>
    <container-transaction>
    <method>
    <ejb-name>ListenerBean</ejb-name>
    <method-name>*</method-name>
    </method>
    <trans-attribute>RequiresNew</trans-attribute> -----------the default value is Required,I modified it to
    RequiresNew.
    </container-transaction>
    <container-transaction>
    really it works, the log file output resume normal. But there are still some problems:
    (1) this exception is still exist:
    javax.ejb.NoSuchEntityException: [EJB:010140]Bean with primary key: '153.22.52.28-17343c7.10243c3c6ec.a51' not found.
    (2) is this method safe ?(Does "Modify ListenBean's transaction-attribute" impat other parts of wli system?)
    (3) after changed the transaction attribute, if turn on archive again, the server output endless exception:

    How can I solve these problem ? any suggestion is warm welcome.
    Thanks in advance.
    Great Lou

    Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with a mirroring tool such as Carbon Copy Cloner. Preferably both.
    Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup), launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume with the default options.This operation will destroy all data on the volume, so you had be better be sure of your backups. Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups. For details of how this works, see here:
    Using Setup Assistant
    Transfer only "Users" and "Settings" – not "Applications" or "Other files." Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system. Test. If the problem is still there, you have a hardware fault. Take the machine to an Apple Store for diagnosis.
    If the problem is resolved, reinstall your third-party software cautiously. Self-contained applications that install into the Applications folder by drag-and-drop or download from the App Store are safe. Anything that comes packaged as an installer or that prompts for an administrator password is suspect, and you must test thoroughly after reinstalling each such item to make sure you haven't restored the problem.
    Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.

    Can you use WebLogic 8.1 SP4 ? BPEL has been certified with that version. We have been able to reproduce the issue and currently investigating the cause of it.

  • Compensate bug in Oracle BPEL PM ?

    Hi,
    I am making some tests using BPEL 10.2. 2 patch 1 and I think that Oracle BPEL PM does not adhere to Compensate specifications.
    According to the BPEL specs, a compensation handler is only executed when its scope has been executed completely and finished normally. Normally means no fault is thrown, even if it is caught and not rethrown.
    But I have made an example:
    - I have 2 nested scopes. There is a compensation handler in the inner scope and a catchall handler in the outer scope which calls the inner compensate handler.
    - The inner scope throws a fault, throwing a Java exception inside a Java Embedding activity.
    - As no inner scope fault handler is defined, outer scope error handler is called. And this error handler calls the inner scope compensation handler.
    - This call to the inner scope compensation handler should not have occurred, because the inner scope did not finish normally.
    I should be very grateful if somebody can tell me what is wrong.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hi,
    did you find a solution for that?
    I got a similar problem in my process. It consists of two parallel scopes (each with a compensation handler). Both compensate activities are defined in the fault handler of the parent scope. If an exception is raised in one of the parallel scopes, i would expect the BPEL PM to complete and compensate the other scope (according to the BPEL specs). In fact, the BPEL PM stops the execution of both scopes and invokes both compensation handlers.
    In my tests this unexpected behaviour caused some data inconsistencies. If this behaviour is not a bug, it would be a serious limitation to the definition of business transactions in BPEL in my eyes.
    Thanks for any help in advance.

  • JDeveloper 10.1.3.4 won't connect to Oracle BPEL 10.1.3.4 after patch

    Hi
    I've tried to install Oracle BPEL 10.1.3.4 four times now. Everytime I apply the 10.1.3.4 patch, JDeveloper won't connect to BPEL. I followed the installation documents step by step:
    1.- Create SOA Schemas
    2.- Install Oracle SOA Suite
    3.- Upgrade BPEL and ESB Schemas
    4.- Install 10.1.3.4 patch
    5.- Configure PHP5
    6.- Change data-source.xml
    I always get the same problem in JDeveloper
    XMLParseException:Whitespace required in the Identity Services. The configuration in JDeveloper is correct because it works on 10.1.3.1.
    Regards,
    Néstor Boscán

    I install 10.1.3.1. JDeveloper works perfectly:
    Application Server: OK
    BPEL Process Manager Server: OK
    ESB Server: OK
    Then I run the upgrade scripts:
    soa_schema_upgrade\bpel\scripts\upgrade_10131_10134_oracle.sql
    And I install the patch.
    Then I configure PHP5:
    Set the enviroment variable PHPRC.
    Configure the httpd.conf file:
    LoadModule php5_module libexec/libphp5.so
    AddModule mod_php5.c
    AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php5
    AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
    Change the factory class in data-sources.xml to oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource.
    Also I set in server.xml
         <application name="hw_services" path="../applications\hw_services.ear" parent="orabpel" start="true" />
    The patch sets the start attribute to false.
    Everything restarts correctly but I can't connect from JDeveloper. There are no errors in the opmn log, or the applications.log.
    Regards,
    Néstor Boscán

  • Disaster recovery in Oracle BPEL

    Hi,
    For a disaster recovery scenario, how does Oracle BPEL support lost transactions? Is there any mechanisum which takes care of re-sending the lost transactions and checking for duplicates?
    As Oracle BPEL maintains state information, does Oracle BPEL take's care of lost transactions on server startup.
    Can anyone please, through some light on Disaster recovery in Oracle BPEL.
    Thanks and Regards
    Raj

    > I am confused. Option 3 will be restoring backup
    Yes - but what will you restore? Everything? If you're running on a cluster it's unlikely that both nodes will fail at the same time so there is still one node that can and will run the software, no?
    > and 4 will be sapinst. Isn't it? Are both options supported by SAP?
    Yes.
    > Is there a SAP standard documentation for building cluster from scratch and build SAP system from backup or sapinst for DR?
    The standard installation documentation cover a cluster installation.
    > I am sure there will be installation document if it is a fresh installation. But not sure if there is one for DR.
    If you have a cluster then you have a high availability already. If a node fails, you will "just" reinstall that node and put it back into the cluster.
    What kind of DR scenario are you thinking about?

  • Which XSLT versions are support by Oracle BPEL? v1.1  or v2.0?

    Which XSLT versions are support by Oracle BPEL? v1.1 or v2.0?
    As far as I heard v1.1 is the highest version but some functions of v2.0 are supported as well.
    Is this true?
    If yes: Which XSLT functions of v2.0 are supported?
    Does it matter if I change the
    version="1.1"
    attribute in the topmost
    <xsl:stylesheet......>
    tag?
    Which XSLT processor is built-in/used?
    Peter

    XSL mapper in BPEL supports 1.0 only in-built. And this is true for 11g also. However, we can declare <xsl:stylesheet version = 2.0 ... and use all xpath 2.0 functions. I have used few of them and has been successful so far. Once you declare version as 2.0 the only issue will be that XSL's visual GUI mapper will not work in JDeveloper and you will need to modify the code from the source.

    In your ejb-jar.xml you are referring to a method saveActionGroup(EditableActionGroup) which is not defined in your remote interface.
    Maybe you have made some typo in the configuration. Check your transaction section, i.e.,
    <container-transaction>
                <method>
                    <ejb-name>ViewBean</ejb-name>
                    <method-name>saveActionGroup</method-name>

                        <method-param>package.EditableActionGroup</method-param>
                    </method-params>
                </method>
                <trans-attribute>Required</trans-attribute>
    </container-transaction>or something similar. See if the defined methods are corresponding to the methods defined in the remote interface.

  • Can Oracle BPEL handle Doc/Lit SOAP with Attachments?

    I have successfully followed the instructions for using Oracle BPEL 10.1.3.4 to handle SOAP With Attachments with an RPC-style WSDL, detailed here:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/integrate.1013/b28981/manipdoc.htm#sthref955
    I have a simple Echo service that receives and attachment and responds with the same attachment.
    I actually would like to accomplish the same thing using a Doc/Literal Wrapped WSDL. My initial testing shows that BPEL can indeed receive the attachment ( I can see it in the dehydration store), but it is not added to the response.
    Is this possible using Doc/Lit with SwA in BPEL 10.1.3.4?

    As I've investigated the issue some more, I've found that the real issue is receiving an attachment on the SOAP response from the BPEL process. Using a Doc/Lit-Wrapped WSDL, I can receive a request with an attachment, and add it to outgoing requests successfully. But when I do a straight copy from the request message to the response message (Echo Service), the response contains the correct "href" attribute but there is no attachment, and moreover, no MIME multipart message is returned.
    NOTE: I was successful in using an RPC/Literal WSDL to accomplish the successful echo of the attachment.
    Also, when looking in the OPMN logs, I see the following line for the RPC-based BPEL process, but not for the Doc/Lit:
    <2009-11-23 13:43:35,684> <DEBUG> <attachment.collaxa.cube.engine> <CXBinaryDataHandler::createDataSource> for binary location=uuid:aaa091d17e1b5545:67c00c53:1252285bf07:-7fc2
    <2009-11-23 13:43:35,716> <DEBUG> <attachment.collaxa.cube.engine.data> <ConnectionFactory::getConnection> GOT CONNECTION 1 Autocommit = false
    <2009-11-23 13:43:35,716> <DEBUG> <attachment.collaxa.cube.engine> <CXBinaryDataHandler::createDataSource> for binary location=uuid:aaa091d17e1b5545:67c00c53:1252285bf07:-7fc1
    and the "binary location" value corresponds with the "href" attribute seen in the BPEL audit logs.

  • Does Oracle BPEL PM support WS-Coordination?

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a BPEL PM that implements transaction management, following the WS-Coordination specifications. Oracle has defined a Web Service Coordination Framework specification (WS-CF) in July 28, 2003. Does Oracle BPEL PM 10.1.2 implements this specification?
    If not, how can I manage pure BPEL transactions?
    Is there documentation or examples about this?
    Thanks,
    Gaetano

    Thanks Sandor,
    I'm aware of the compensation handler.
    I have read several articles where Oracle said that they have implemented WS-Coordination. I downloaded the Oracle BPEL PM, read the documentation, but I didn't find anything about a Coordinator service (where the services participating in the transaction have to register themselves ) or about the management of Context information in the SOAP headers by the BPEL engine.

  • Need info regarding BPEL Transaction Management

    Hi All,
    Can anybody gives me information regarding how much BPEL support for transaction Management.
    Up to what level transactional behaviours can now BPEL (10.1.3.3) offer so far.WS-Transaction still can be expected from this current version. If somebody gives me the link of any document link that will be much fruitful to me.
    Thanks in advance

    Refer to the link :-http://download.oracle.com/technology/tech/soa/soa_best_practices_1013x_drop3.pdf
    Under the section transaction you'll get an overview of BPEL transaction management.

  • Oracle BPEL running on multi-processor/multi-core using one core

    Hi,
    At a site we have running Oracle BPEL on OAS (10.1.2), AIX 5.3 LPAR with 10 cores (5 processors). Shortly we have an noticable load on the system, which revealed that Oracle BPEL seems to be bound to one processor. Therefore the other processors are hardly used. Can this be solved by re-configuring OAS or Oracle BPEL to use multiple processors for separate threads or Is this an Oracle Application Server or Oracle BPEL limititation and should we install multiple OC4J's to make effective use of the processors.
    Cheers,
    Peter

    10g Release 3 (10.1.3.2) for Microsoft Windows
    Part Number B32199-03
    4.1.1 Limited Management Support for Multiple-JVM OC4J Instances
    With Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.2), you can configure any OC4J instance to use multiple Java Virtual Machines (JVMs). You can perform this configuration change by using the Application Server Control Console or by setting the numprocs argument in the opmn.xml file to a number greater than one (1).
    The opmn.xml file is located in the following directory in your Oracle Application Server Oracle home:
    ORACLE_HOME\opmn\conf\
    To set the number JVMs in the Application Server Control Console, see "Creating Additional JVMs for an OC4J Instance" in the Application Server Control online help.
    To set the number of JVMs by editing the numprocs argument in the opmn.xml file, refer to the following example, which shows the numprocs entry you must modify:
    <ias-component id="OC4J"> <process-type id="home" module-id="OC4J" status="enabled">
    <process-set id="default_group" numprocs="2"/>
    </process-type>
    </ias-component>
    Note, however, that this feature is not supported by Application Server Control. Specifically, Application Server Control (represented by the ascontrol application) cannot run on an OC4J instance that is running multiple JVMs. As a result, be sure that you do not configure multiple JVMs for the administration OC4J instance (the OC4J instance that is hosting the active ascontrol).If you choose to configure the number of JVMs for the administration OC4J to more than one (1), then you must use command line tools to manage your Oracle Application Server environment. For example, you must use:
    admin_client.jar for deployment, re-deployment, undeployment, start and stop applications, and shared library management
    Apache Ant for deployment, redeployment, and undeployment of your applications
    opmnctl commands for starting, stopping, and other life cycle operations on the Oracle Application Server
    Further, if you are using multiple JVMs on the administration OC4J and, as a result, the Application Server Control Console is not available, then you must make any Oracle Application Server instance configuration changes manually. Manual configuration changes often require you to shut down the Oracle Application Server instance, manually configure the relevant XML files, and then restart Oracle Application Server.

  • BPEL Transaction Inactive : Instance terminated without handling the Error

    Hi All,
         I have a BPEL process which uses XA transaction to insert data in MS SQL Server table.
    When I try to insert "out of range date value", it errs out as expected, but the transaction terminates without proceeding for the error handling part. I even tried disabling the idempotent option for the DB adapter, still the process terminates without error handling.

    Hello,
    You can't catch the roll back exception directly. It will rollback your transaction and because of that it will not get in the catch block.
    To solve this you can create a new BPEL to do the DB insert. Invoke that BPEL with a new transaction. Catch the Database error in the first BPEL
    Example:
      <component name="InsertData" version="2.0">
        <implementation.bpel src="InsertData.bpel"/>
        <property name="bpel.config.transaction">requiresNew</property>
        <property name="bpel.config.inMemoryOptimization">false</property>
        <property name="bpel.config.completionPersistPolicy">On</property>
      </component>
    In this example I have all my logic in the "SyncSypplierMaster" and then I invoke the BPEL "InsertData" (with the property <property name="bpel.config.transaction">requiresNew</property>) to insert in the database. I catch the error in the "SyncSypplierMaster" BPEL where I have the "InsertData" invocation.
    This works because SyncSypplierMaster" is in a different transaction.
    Note: If you are inserting in multiple tables and the error is in a child table you will not catch the DB error message also. If this is your case, I recommend you to investigate what is the patch required to solve this problem.
    Best Regards,
    Daniel Dias
