Oracle connection extremely slow(Oracle 11G on Linux RHEL4)

Hi guru,
In my production database connection suddenly starts taking significant time like 10-15 seconds.
even I try to connect from same machine by using following command :
sqlplus system/impetus@DB
it is taking more then 10 seconds every time
whereas if I use follwing command :
sqlplus system/impetus
connection is instant (taking only few milliseconds)
We also used tnsping which is also instant ...
any clue

The problem is of course the DNS entry (as indicated in one of the responses above) configured either at OS installation or later. Whatever the case, it is of primary improtance. On the other hand, one might have to prepare Oracle totally disconnected from the network (which is what I prefer, anyway). This is what I usually make sure off before proceeding and I also get a static IP from my administrator first (although not a must):
Example
eth0 interface (static):
IP : 192.168.1.101
SM : 255.255.255.0
GW: 192.168.1.101
DNS: 192.168.1.101
/etc/hosts :
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.1.101 myhost.acme.com myhost (replace myhost with your actual server hostname)
The above entires are a minimum for a succesful Oracle DB installation. Assuming you have completed the installation and have a created a database, you will find all connections working "normally" and the way it should.
Finally, (after I'm satisfied alls well), I get my network administrator to give me the correct entries for GW, DNS and make the necessary substitutions in the lan interface and /etc/hosts. Or have the administrator do it for you.
Hope this helps.

  • Computer to Computer connection extremely slow

    Hello, I am having the following problem. I set up a computer to computer network (Create Network...), with all the right sharing services open, no firewall. With one PB 15, I have this consistent behavior: when I log onto another machine (via "My Network" -- oh, what a bad name, that reminds me...I can't say), or another machine connects to it, the connection extremely slow. So transfering files can take forever. Furthermore, in most of the cases the only available protocol that is offered is FTP, not Appleshare. In most cases too, the connection is interrupted half-way.
    Any suggestions? I tried all what I could think of. All machines run on 10.4.2, they all have Airport Extreme cards, updated with the latest software.
    Best to you all,
    l.

    Try changing the advanced wireless settings.
    Open the setup page of the router.
    Go to wireless tab and click on advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the beacon Interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307 and fragmentation threshold to 2307. Save the settings. Go to setup tab and reduce the MTU size to 1365. Save the settings and power cycle the router. Now try on the wireless computer.
    How many wireless computers do you have?
    The speed is slow only on one wireless computer or on all the wireless computers?
    You don't need to downgrade the Firmware on the router.
    Download the latest firmware from the Linksys website and upgrade it on the router.
    After upgrading the firmware on the router, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure the router.

  • PHP Oracle connection randomly slow

    Hello,
    I have a very strange problem concerning the connection to a oracle database with php. Sometimes the same SQL-Statement takes a very long time to load for no obvious reason (more than 5 minutes). But if you try it later it pops up at once. During the waiting time Toad is just showing "SQL*Net message from client" for the session.
    Here the code:
    $db = "<connection string>";
    $c = oci_connect("user", "pwd", $db);
    $s = ociparse($c, "select content from database WHERE CATEGORY = '$category'");
    if(ociexecute($s)) {
    while (ocifetch($s))
    echo ociresult($s, "CONTENT");
    Maybe I should also mention that I'm using a page with frames with a navigation bar on the left which loads the code in the frame on the right with the variable $category. We are using Oracle9i Release 9.0.1 .
    I would really appreciate any help.

    Perceived slowness is something that is dealt with by using process called "tuning". Tuning process requires an extensive knowledge because it should go from end to end, starting with the application. There may be an issue with your application, database, operating system, middle tier or network and one has to know all of the above to be able to tune the application properly. It's always the application one tunes, because it's the application that makes the end users unhappy. In your posts, there is not enough information to even begin thinking about tuning, so I will outline the tuning process for you. One always begins the tuning process by blaming the network and by letting the network engineers use sniffer and dig out the slow component. Typical response from the network people is "network is OK but the server XXX is slow with responses
    and that's what causing the timeouts"). Now you know where the problem is so you can concentrate on a single server and figure out what the problem is. Whatever the problem is, it is usually solved by improving the cache hit ratio by increasing the SGA. Network engineers are
    used to that and they do not mind, but if you want to be mr. nice guy, you can go directly to your boss and ask him for more memory. That is so called modified method C, by Cary Millsap. That is why it's called "method C".

  • Extremely Slow Ethernet (Base Station - Linux) ?

    Hi,
    I recently bought an Airport Extreme and am a bit puzzled by its behaviour. I booted the system and configured it using my macbook pro. The wireless works fine and I see rates of about 7Mbps/1.5Mbps. I also checked the ethernet option and it gives me slightly better speed.
    However, if I connect the base station to a linux server via ethernet, I get extremely slow speed (80kbps/42Kbps). Earlier the linux server was directly connected to the cable modem and worked fine.
    Am I missing something in the setup? Nothing in the manual online shed any additional light.
    Any suggestions? Hints?

    Per wireless bandwidth performance is almost always attributed to some sort of Wi-Fi interference. Since you are operating your AEBSn in the 2.4 GHz radio band in order to support multiple wireless clients, there may be other interference in this same radio band ... like other Wi-Fi, portable phones, baby monitors, microwave ovens or construction material that is causing the signal loss.

  • 1415 fnw printer wireless connection extremely slow or not working with OS X, works with windows

    The wireless connection to the printer is either extremely slow or not working at all on OS X Yosemite.  It shows up in the list of printers in Bonjour in Safari, and I can connect to parts of the web interface if I wait a very long time.  However, I cannot add the printer as a new printer in System Preferences even though the printer shows up.
    I have upgraded to the latest firmware.  The WiFi indicator on the printer is on, "green", and it has a reserved IP showing up in my router (ComCast).  It seems that Windows machines can printer to the printer wirelessly without a problem.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hello @sscotti,
    I would like to assist you today with installing your wireless HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer on your Mac OS X 10.10 Computer. Now you indicate in your post that this printer works fine with Windows computers, and you are able to 'see' the Bonjour printer on your Mac. Therefore, the issue that you are experiencing is not network related. Rather, I do believe that you are experiencing a driver conflict on your Mac OS X 10.10 computer. Can I please have you run the steps below to resolve this issue.
    Step 1: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
    First, I'm going to have you 'clean up' your Mac OS X 10.10 computer to verify that any trace of your Laserjet printer is gone so we have a nice clean slate to work with. Please click here and when the website opens select the drop down for 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9' as the steps are the same for Mac OS X 10.10. Run the appropriate uninstall steps for the method in which you originally tried to install your printer: Apple Updates, or the HP Driver download.
    Once the uninstall is complete, please proceed to the next step.
    Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
    Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
    Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
    Step 3: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
    Step 4: Reinstall your Software and Drivers:
    Please click here to download the appropriate Mac OS X 10.10 drivers for your HP Laserjet printer.
    Once the website opens select the 'download' button on the top left
    Once the download has completed, please follow the onscreen steps to reinstall your printer.
    Once the reinstall is complete, test the print and scan functions to ensure that your printer is functioning as per normal.
    Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should you still be experiencing issues there are additional steps I can have you run through. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Network connection extremely slow after snow leopard upgrade

    I should first state that my son's new Intel Mac Mini (2009 model) is working fine without any issues - it is on the "n" band. My wife's macbook (on Leopard) and my Thinkpad are continuing to work fine - both connecting to the "g" band of my Simultaneous Dual band AEBS.
    On my 2008 model mac mini, the installation went thru fine, but the network connection is extremely slow - it is connecting using the "g" band. Even when I launch the Airport utility, it takes a while to locate the AEBS and then when I click on "Manual Setup", it takes a very very long time to read the configuration. This tells me that the airport interface on the mac mini has some driver issue.
    I tried all the suggestions given in other threads (listed below), but none of them worked.
    1. Created a new network location and rebooted
    2. Trashed the com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist and rebooted
    3. Rebooted countless number of times - illogical, but that kicks in when I can't find a solution.
    It is past midnight here (20miles from Apple headquarter). Going to wait for another 30minutes. After that, I will use SuperDuper to install my Leopard back on my mac mini which I had cloned before starting the installation.
    Appreciate any suggestions - I am open to any prayer solution as well! If not, the Snow Leopard family pack is going back to the Apple store on Monday.
    Just saw at engadget: "On a 17-inch unibody we were putting through the paces, the WiFi inexplicably has gone out and we have yet to get it working again."

    Some more info about my setup:
    *Simultaneous Dual band AEBS:*
    Radio Mode: 802.11n only (5 GHz) - 802.11b/g
    Radio Channel Selection: Manual - 161 (5GHz), 6(2.4GHz)
    *Airport Express:*
    Wireless mode: Extend a wireless network
    Allow wireless clients checked under the name of the network (same as for AEBS).
    Both are WPA/WPA2 Personal security. And both the routers were upgraded to 7.4.2 firmware this morning with the hope that it will help.
    *N Devices (both working fine):*
    Apple TV 40GB
    2009 Model Mac Mini upgraded to Snow Leopard - working perfectly.
    *G Devices:*
    Thinkpad running WinXP
    Dell Laptop running WinXP
    Acer Netbook running WinXP
    iPod Touch
    iPhone 3G
    Linksys webcam
    _All of the above are working fine_.
    +2008 model Mac mini -+ upgrade to Snow Leopard shows extremely slow wifi connection that it is unusable. It takes 20min to load apple homepage. When I boot from the clone of my Leopard lying on my external drive, it works perfectly.
    I compared the settings between all the tabs of Network-->Airport-->Advanced and they are identical between Snow Leopard and Leopard mode except that SL doesn't have the "Apple Talk" tab.
    Appreciate any help to debug this.

    Have old iOs 106.8. Connection to internet was extremely slow, so, stupidly, updated Firefox to current iteration. Now nearly impossible. Connections are incredibly slow or incomplete. So - tried to Reset Firefox. THAT won't work. Keep getting "This is embarrassing"message re unable to load tabs, etc. and to close open windows. So I do. The only windows are Mozilla's, btw. Keep getting same thing. Round and round and round, etc.

    There are several thing for you to check out.

    Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set
    to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your
    updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow
    Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version)
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs, then add it back. For detailed instructions, see

    We just migrated to a new dev environment in Linux REDHAT5, and now the query is very slow, and I used the TOAD to run the query, it took like 700 msecond to finish, however from any server connection, the sql query takes hours to finish.
    I checked toad monitor, it said need to increase db_buffer_cache and shared pool too small.
    Also three red alert from toad is:
    1. Library Cache get hit ratio: Dynamic or unsharable sql
    2. Chained fetch ratio: PCT free too low for a table

  • Xcelsius with SAP netweaver connection extremely slow when executing

    Hi everybody,
    I am building a quite complex Xcelsius dashboard with multiple connections and many components with individual mappings.
    My initial load time is now around 5 minutes (the netweaver portal loading icon) and the initialization is around 1 minute (the Xcelsius initialization icon). When I check the BI statistics using &profiling=x in the end of the URL I can see that the process "initialize item XC_DASHBOARD_ITEM_1" is causing 95% of the load time.
    I read in the how to guide "how to.. build fast and efficient dash boards using the new netweaver BW integration in SAP BusinessObjects Xcelsius" that the swf should be cached on the SAP system when using SAP netweaver BI 7.0, EHP1, SP6 patch 40. I can see in our system that we are on 7.01 with SP6. However, I cannot see the patch level. The cache in the query monitor is turned on, but it seems like only queries are cached in here.
    Does anyone know where I can check if the swf file is being cached on the SAP system? And do you know how to minimize the time spent on the process "initialize item XC_DASHBOARD_ITEM_1" on the JAVA and ABAP stack?
    I know that I could probably remove many of my mappings and components in the dashboard to get better performance, but then I cannot build the dashboard as intended. By the way, most of my connections only retrieve data when the users are navigating, so only very few connections are refreshed before load and this is maximum 20-30 cells altogether.
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,
    Morten

    Hi Morten,
    YOu can observe the SWF caching in the HTTP trace ..along with the time stamp.
    For patch you can check via the SDT as per note 937697.
    Thanks,
    Nandan

  • Internet connection extremely slow in most applications

    I have an aluminum iMac 2.4GHz. I also have an iBook G4. Both are on the exact same desk and connected to my universities internet connection.
    The iBook can surf the internet fine, as well as download software updates with no problems. However, the iMac takes soooo long to open a webpage, and can only do it on half of the attempts. Using Software Update is a joke because it takes 5 minutes to download a megabyte, and then times out. Mail also has problems.
    Stranger still, when I finally get to a download page to download some freeware, the download happens at normal speed.
    When I restart in Windows XP, I can surf the net just fine and install updates and check mail.
    I have opened Network Preferences on the iBook and iMac to compare, and they both have almost identical settings. Maybe this is where I need to look for the problem.
    What can I do to solve this problem?

    I have very little experience with wireless authentication protocols, so my answer is intentionally vague - hopefully someone can get you a better answer.
    TTLS and PEAP are different authentication protocols used with wireless connections.
    The first thing I'd try is to get to the network settings and try to change the iMac to use TTLS for authentication.
    The WINS servers are kind of a strange happening...those settings will typically come from a DHCP server, is it possible that your iMac is holding on to DHCP settings from a different segment of the network you're on - have you tried renewing the DHCP lease (probably won;t help, but, you can try)

    I have a very similar issue using Crystal XI, and now more recently XI R2 updated  through SP6.
    My database connections for the report utilize ODBC, which is how our application talks to the database, and provides a connection to crystal.
    Oracle version is 10g R2, patched on client with 10.3.
    I have a common databaes, in which I have views on many tables.  The views depict a collection, and when the report is to run on a different collection I need to change the views on all of the tables (including those in subreports), as well as provide the credentials for connection.
    I'm using VStudio2008 C++ with PutLocation( )
    First using GetLocation() to find the initial location, then PutLocation to change it
    using
    IDatabaseTablePtr table;
    try {
         strcpy(tableLocation, table->GetLocation());
    // make my changes to the table's location (the view)
         table->PutLocation(tableLocation);
    catch (_com_error& e) {
    // if problems, handle and display errors.
    HandleError(NULL, e);
    I can have upwards of 20 tables/views in a report, and this can take 1/2 to a full minute to accomplish.
    In addition, I optionally provide a user the ability to add criteria and sorting to the report; and perform a table/column collection to show them to the user for seleciton.  This same process is used on all views (including those in subreports), so proper data lists can be provided from the correct views.
    Does anyone have a solution for this?

  • Not able to start database Oracle 11g on Linux Server

    Hi

    When i am trying to access database through url "https://localhost.localdomain:1158/em".

    I tried to diagonse the problem, where i could find that listener port is not getting started.
    How to start all the services related to Oracle Database ?
    I am newbie for linux as well as database.
    Detailed help 'll be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
