Oracle connection takes 5-6 seconds in VS 2005

hi all,
i am a developer just switching to Oracle after SQL Server and though i make everything work properly, i am having performance issues while connecting to the Oracle Server. to open up a connection takes 5-6 seconds or even longer and querying large chunks of data does not even take a second. what maybe the problem? i am using VS 2005, 10G with ODP.NET
thanks

hi there Greg,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes it is specific to ODP. SQL Plus or TOAD connects very fast. but when the statement conn.open() is executed somewhere in my code, it takes a while for the connection be opened. and this is sometimes 10-15 seconds.
I checked the SQLNet.ORa and the option you mentiond is set to NTS. I did change it to NONE, but did not change anything.
Any other ideas

  • VM Connect takes long time

    Hello,
    I have a new cluster using 2012 R2 and have the problem that if I want to connect to a VM from the Hyper-V Manager (or Failover Cluster) the connection takes about 10 seconds or sometime even longer (20 seconds).
    Does someone have any idea why this could be happening? Currently the servers are running in an isolated environment without internet connection, there are 2 DCs (2012 R2) with DNS which have been newly deployed just for this environment.
    Any idea how to make the connection to the VMs faster? Could the lack of internet cause this problem?
    Regards
    Paul

    When does the issue occur?  By default, Windows Server is configured to treat interactive jobs, e.g. VMconnect, at a lower priority than service jobs, e.g. VMs.  So one of two things can be happening.
    First is if you have not accessed the system for a while, it is likely that the code needed to run VMconnect is not in memory and takes disk accesses to bring it in.  That takes longer than if you had just run VMconnect on another VM earlier.
    The code may not have been 'garbage collected' out of the system.  Another possibility in this space is that if your system is running close its limit in regards to memory.  That can cause paging to occur for the parent partition.
    Secondly is that if there is a fair amount of service activity, the interactive activity will be 'behind' the service activity.  A combination of the two can make it appear slower yet.

  • MacBookPro mid-2010 setting up WiFi connection takes more than 5 seconds

    When I open the lid of my MacBookPro (mid-2010), it sets up the WiFi connection. This takes about five seconds. If I unlock my iPad, the connection is there almost immediately. Is there a way to speed up the MacBookPro, setting up the WiFi connection?
    Still running Snow Leopard, not Lion.

    Have a cup of coffee while you wait the five seconds.

  • My macbook pro takes 5-10 seconds to connect to my wifi

    when I gear up my computer or when I click on my safari, it takes 5-10 seconds to hook up to my wifi
    anybody have any ideas why

    Can't vouch for your setup, unknown to me, but I see my MBP take about 3-5 seconds to renegotiate its association to my home's encrypted Wi-Fi ADSL router, whereas the unencrypted base station at work completes the process much faster. I have Personal WPA2 encryption with a 128bit key and this has a direct bearing on the process.
    Since the neighbor had the vice of hooking up to my router prior to my enabling heavy duty protection, the time the Mac takes to reconnect is a necessary and unavoidable evil.

  • Error BACKINT for Oracle Connection

    hi @ maxdb gurus...
    i have a problem backing up my maxdb 7.6.0.033 (serving for a mysap.erp2005 on aix 5.3) using the backint mechanism.
    -> backup media created: two pipes and one parallel medium containing these pipes
    -> bsi.env has been created
    -> backint4sapdb.sar contains
       4 staging areas each with 4096 MB
       files per backint call 2
    -> maxdb is about 57 gb perm. data area (and 6 gb temp.)
    i use the backup wizard (dbmgui) to invoke a complete data backup which starts (pipes are created in the file system) and runs until approx. 4 gb...then the backup terminates with error "-24920 backup operation was unsuccesful. The database request failed with error -8020"
    what might be the problem? are the staging areas too small? is says that when using only one stage area it must hold the complete database...can i then conclude that 4 staging areas must hold the database as well - meaning they must be around 15 gb each?
    GreetZ, AH

    yup...but that also means that the sum of the staging areas need as much space as the database ie. around 70 gigs netto! the staging files will be filled and thus grow until the defined size, meaning that the file system(s) need to be big enough!
    everything works fine until the stage files are filled (up to the defined size) and then stops...when i change the sizes of the staging areas i can reproduce the error!
    i compared the tsm implementation of that system with another system (live cache...kind of small regarding db size...) and found nothing serious...

  • HttpURLConnection.connect() takes long time (3 minutes)

    I'm stumped on an unusual problem. I'm running java 1.3 and Apache JServ (don't ask, I inherited this set up), using JSSE. One of the things we do with our app involves some xml communication over SSL.
    Starting last week, the time for the SSL communication jumped from about 15 seconds to around 3 minutes.
    Here is the bit of code that does the actual communication. An example function call would be:
    contactService("ShipConfirm", "ups.app/xml");and the function definition:
    public void contactService(String service, String prefix)  throws Exception {
      HttpURLConnection connection;
      URL url;
      // the next 2 variables are stored elsewhere in the object
      // these values are just examples of one invocation
      String protocol = "https";
      String hostname = "wwwcie.ups.com";
      String urlStr = protocol + "://" + hostname + "/" + prefix + "/" + service;
      // so for this test urlString = "https://wwwcie.ups.com/ups.app/xml/ShipConfirm";
      try  {
        if (protocol.equalsIgnoreCase("https")) {
          java.security.Security.addProvider(new com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.Provider());
          System.getProperties().put("java.protocol.handler.pkgs", "com.sun.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol");
        url = new URL(urlString);
        // Trace.log is a convenience class that will print to a log file and include a timestamp
        Trace.log("open connection to " + urlString);
        connection = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
        // openConnection takes about 20 seconds now, before 1 or 2 seconds
        Trace.log("opened connection to " + urlString);
        connection.setDoOutput(true);
        connection.setDoInput(true);
        connection.setUseCaches(false);
        // XmlIn is an already generated xml file stored in a StringBuffer, declared elsewhere
        String queryString = XmlIn.toString();
        Trace.log("xml connection to " + urlString);
        connection.connect();
        // connect takes about 3 minutes 10 seconds now, before 15 seconds
        Trace.log("xml connection complete " + urlString);
        OutputStream out = connection.getOutputStream();
        out.write(queryString.getBytes());
        out.close();
        String data = "";
        try {
          // on the server this is actually a separate function
          StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer();
          BufferedReader reader = null;
          try {
            reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(connection.getInputStream()));
            String line = null;
            int letter = 0;
            while ((letter = reader.read()) != -1)
              buffer.append((char) letter);
          catch (Exception e) {
            // Trace.major is like Trace.log, but is a higher severity
            Trace.major("Cannot read from URL" + e.toString());
            throw e;
          finally {
            try {
              reader.close();
            catch (IOException io) {
              Trace.major("Error closing URLReader!");
              throw io;
          data = buffer.toString(); // actually a return statement on server
        catch (Exception e) {
          Trace.major("Error in reading URL Connection" + e.getMessage());
          throw e;
        XmlOut = new StringBuffer(data);  // XmlOut is a StringBuffer declared elsewhere
      catch (Exception e1) {
        Trace.major("Error sending data to server" + e1.toString());
    } Besides a couple of new Trace.log statements to pin down the what, exactly, is taking so long, I haven't touched this code in the year+ since I've inherited it. There haven't been any changes in the network setup for the last 3 weeks, either (last change was new reverse lookup zone for our internal network).
    Any idea why the HttpURLConnection.connect() would take so long? Or any idea how I can find out what is going on for those 3 minutes? In my search so far, I found -Djava.net.debug=ssl,handshake,data and added it to my startup parameters, but in my frustration, I must have overlooked what I need do to make it show up in my logs.
    I set up a tcpdump on the server to listen on the IP that I'm trying to connect to and the "xml connection to" log statement prints, then about 3 minutes and 10 seconds goes by, then tcpdump reports that we actually send the packets to the other server, then we get a response and print the "xml connection complete" log message. URL and HttpURLConnection are not subclassed at all.
    To make things even more interesting, I broke out this code, and wrote a small test program. The test program has some minor changes (pulling the xml data from an already existing file, mainly), and this version runs lickety-split (about 5 seconds).
    Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if I can provide any more information.
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Figured it out..
    The other side removed a proxy server that we used to try to connect through. The server was taking 3 minutes and 10 seconds to time out when it trying to contact the proxy server.
    To be honest, I don't know if we ever successfully connected through the proxy server. I'm inclined to believe we tried to contact it, but were rejected, but no one ever removed the proxy code.

  • Oracle Connection Manager

    Hi,
    i'm having a problem configuring Oracle Connection Manager. It does start the instance of connection manager
    Summary of my environment is
    10g Application server and infrastructure machine OS: Windows 2003
    9i Database Server: Windows 2003
    Client : Java Applet
    JDBC driver type : THIN
    Installed: 10g Infra first and then 10g midiier(portal and wireless) in seperate oracle homes on the same machine. Eveything is up and running as i was able to login seperately in infra and midtier enterprise managers.
    Final Goal : Trying to connect to an Oracle 9i database on a differnt machine than the appserver using an applet, thin drivers and Oracle Connection Manager
    Problem : Connection manager instance not started however cmanADMIn service started.
    CMCTL:CMAN_oracle9-app> administer cmanOracleAS
    Current instance cmanOracleAS is not yet started
    Connections refer to (address=(protocol=tcp)(host=10.10.1.101)(port=1610)).
    The command completed successfully.
    CMCTL:cmanOracleAS> startup
    Service Oracleoracle_infraCMAdmincmanOracleAS already running.
    TNS-04012: Unable to start Oracle Connection Manager instance.
    CMCTL:cmanOracleAS>
    Steps done to configure Oracle Connection manager
    1. Copied 4 .exe (CMADMIN, CMCTL,CMGW,CMMIGR) files to bin folder of Appserver or midtier's main ORACLE_HOME/BIN folder.
    2) created a cman.ora file and copied in appservers /NETWORK/ADMIN directory
    3) On cammand prompt type CMCTL...ADMINISTER cman_OracleAS where cman_OracleAS is the name of cman instance used in cman.ora file.

  • BO 4.0 Oracle connection error

    Hi.
    I have a oracle connection in the bo 4.0 .
    Universe is ok,and report runs properly in WebI rich client.
    But in launcpad i get the following error -
    Database error: (CS) "DBDriver failed to load : D:\SAPBusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Xi4.0\dataAccess\connectionServer\drivers\lib64\dbd_oci.dll (The specified module could not be found)".(IES 10901)
    I have installed both 64bit and 32bit Oracle client on the server. This is a 64bit Win 2008 R2 server.
    You help is really appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ritesh

    Hi,
    I bet this same workflow in  WRC in 3-tier mode from a Client would fail too.  (i.e. using Connection Servers on Platform)
    I would encourage you to search for knowledge base articles at location https://service.sap.com/xsearch  before submitting posts.  the keywords " Database error (CS) DBDriver failed to load lib64\dbd_oci.dll " are searcheable terms.
    Please take a look at notes:
    1619829 - BI 4.x Error "DBDriver failed to load IES 10901 WIS 1090" when creating a webi report from Webintelligence application on Oracle
    and
    1578731 - Database error: (CS) "DBDriver failed to load : D:\SAPBusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Xi4.0\dataAccess\connectionServer\drivers\lib64\dbd_oci.dll (%1 is not a valid Win32 application.)".(IES 10901)
    basically, you need to add ORACLE_HOME in the system environnment variables. Verify that the environnment variable PATH is also populated with the oracle path.

  • G560-0679 WiFi connection takes long time

    I have a Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium G560 model and out of the box, the WiFi would be set up to automatically connect to my home network when in range. Usually, it would connect to it as soon as it is booted up from stanby mode but recently, it takes from 30 seconds to 1 minute to find the connection and connect automatically. The WiFi adapter is on as when I click on the icon, I can see my home network SSID is in range but the computer takes a lot longer than usual to find and connect to it automatically.
    Also when I am connected the icon does not changed to the white bars. It stays on the icon that means "wireless networks available" (bars with the yellow sun dot) although when it is attempting to connect, it is the bars with the blue circle. Also when it is not connected to any wireless networks but detects there are some in range, the bar with the yellow sun dot is present as it should be.
    any help is greatly appreciated.

    hi boyee.
    can you try to update/re-install the drivers first? please, also try to disable ipv6 configuration and take a look at the thread below:

  • Number of oracle connection increase

    We added more web servers IIS Servers which connects to Oracle Database. Each Server has predefined connection pool. As result of this I see Oracle connections number almost doubled. Here is my question. Could this also impact Database performance somehow down in road. Like memory or CPU utilization. Most of new session sitting idle.
    Oracle Database 9.2

    Each connection to database will have a server process (shadow process) running for it on DB server if using dedicated connection method.
    These server process will take about 1M memory initially, could grow depends on what's running. So make sure you have enough memory to accommodate them and check your DB parameter
    processes and sessions, they govern how many concurrent connections can be opened to database.

  • Outgoing connections take long

    Hi. I've the feeling, that outgoing connections take long / very long. When I connect via ssh to a server it takes 30-60 seconds until the server answers. Connect with ICQ, the same problem. I think it's a local problem, because it works very fast on tiger. Are the any firewall properties to set it.
    Thank you.

    Yeah, I get the same thing. Adium won't even connect to msn. SSH takes anywhere from 30-60seconds to connect.
    I've still got a g4 iBook running 10.4 with no problems at all.
    I've set my firewall to be off as far as I know.
    Did you get a solution for it?
    Thanks

  • I have the Android Rezound and the dialer is acting slow, it takes 20-30 seconds to dial a number, why is that?

    Why is the dialer take 20-30 seconds to dial a number or connect me to my voicemail?

        cpankey,
    Thank you for reaching out to us today. I know how that can be frustrating that there is a delay. Let's try to get this back on the right track. Can you please go into the Settings, Apps, All, Scroll to Dialer, Tap on Force Stop, Clear Data, and Clear Cache. Then go back to the main screen, power the phone off. Leave the phone off for 5-10 seconds and then power it back on and re-try the phone call again. Please keep us posted.

    My first guess would be the setting of the switch port connected to the pc. It should be set to client mode (spanning-tree portfast as it's called by some vendors) or else the pc port won't directly get initialized while booting, resulting in the initial dhcp packets sent by the pc not finding their way to the network.
    Could that be the issue?

  • Need PL/SQL Code to get Oracle connection string

    Hi
    Could you please give any solution to below requirement?
    Requirement :
    I have an existing pl/sql program (Registered as concurrent Program) in which i am calling a "C" Program. The "C" program expects a parameter to pass the value of oracle connection string (userid/pwd@instance). The C Program takes the connection string to connect to oracle and manipulate data.
    Question. How will I get Oracle userid,pwd and connection string being in PL/SQL Session so that it will run for every instance i move the code in.
    Note :
    1.) We have limitations to call another concurrent program to fetch these data.
    2.) We cannot hard code the value in the program because of compliance issue.
    Any example of code will help.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Cheers

    Ok I think it's a problem with my router. I went to my cousin's house and the Wi-Fi worked there perfectly. I was even able to download many apps. So I guess my router probably can't take in more connections. Oh well thanks anyway.
