Oracle Designer Collection problem

Hi all,
this is my first post in this forum, but I've been using it a lot and I'd like to thank everyone that have always helped me through their posts.
Now I have come to a problem to which I can't find a solution...
My problem is the following:
My goal is to import a data model. To do this I have to create certain objects in Oracle Designer, prior to importing the model itself. The reason for this is that if this certain object isn't created, the import itself fails on a given table.
More objectively, the object I'm trying to create in the "Server model" in the "Oracle Collection Type" is a VARRAY of 999999 elements of RAW(2000).
When I try to create this object, I get the following error:
Message
RME-00209: Current activity has outstanding violations
Cause
Could not 'commit' the data because of outstanding
data integrity violations.
Action
Examine violations, fix the invalid data, and try again.
Message
RME-00224: Failed to close activity

Action
Examine other reported errors for specific details.
Message
CDA-00500: Invalid format type <RAW>
Cause
The specified format type is not valid.
Action
Refer to the format type rules in the Designer Meta-model and
API documentation.
This error is on Designer 9.0.2.10 and on Oracle 9.2.0.7 database
If I try the same thing on Designer 10.1.2.4 and on Oracle 10.2.0.1, I get the following:
Message
RME-00020: Internal API error - ORA-06502: PL/SQL: erro numérico ou de valor : o buffer da cadeia de caracteres é demasiado pequeno
Cause
The API has detected an internal inconsistency.
Action
Check the detail of the associated Oracle Server error message
(ORA-xxxxx) and resolve it.
Message
RME-00011: Operation 'close' on ACTIVITY has failed
Cause
An API operation request has failed for some reason.
Action
Examine other reported errors for specific details.
Message
RME-00222: Failed to dispatch operation to Repository
Cause
Requested operation failed because of other errors.
Action
Examine other reported errors for specific details.
Message
RME-00224: Failed to close activity
Cause
Could not close ('commit') an activity.
Action
Examine other reported errors for specific details.
Message
CDA-00500: Invalid format type <RAW>
Cause
The specified format type is not valid.
Action
Refer to the format type rules in the Designer Meta-model and
API documentation.
If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated.
Best regards to all of you,
Filipe

Hi Michael. Thank you for your reply.
Nevertheless, I think that what you say is not correct since I can create a VARRAY of NUMBER datatype; the only thing I can't create is a VARRAY of RAW datatype.
Can you, or anyone, comment on this?
Thank you.
Regards,
Filipe

    Hi,
I have a problem with Oracle Designer 10 version 9.0.4.7 installed in Windows 2000 platform.
I don't know if the origin of the problem is at the server side or client side. I try to launch the repository reports but it doesn't work. The screen never appear. I have to finish the client process but the oracle session remmains:

    "has no role cannot regenerate"
this is specific to the primary keys of each table
has anyone come across this before? any ideas guys?

I think this belongs in another forum, but could you answer this question: Are you trying to generate database creation scripts by select Create Oracle Database in the DB Admin tab of the Design Editor?

  • Problem logging into Oracle Designer 10G

    Hello developers,
I've downloaded and installed Oracle Designer 10G on my computer. I've installed it using the installation wizard. I wanted to login. I have my username and password but not the connect string. I don't know what my connect string is now.
During the installation, I've encountered such a message:
Oracle Designer and Oracle8i client import and export tools need to be installed into different Oracle homes. You can use the LOCAL and TNS_ADMIN registry variables(set under both Oracle Homes in the registry) to save having to maintain multiple copies of your TNSNAMES.ORA file. Please enter any information you wish to be set and click OK to continue."
So under this message, a default entry of "C:\orant\net80\admin" appears whilst for field Local, I've entered "orahome" which I assume to be my database alias.
Later on, I found out about 10G so I removed the copy of 6i I've installed using Universal Installer and proceeded to download and install 10G. Now the error message Im getting when I tried to login without giving a connect string is that "The user does not have an installed Repository. Invoke the Repository Administrator Utility. " So from the start menu, I choose Repository Administration Utility but nothing happened.
Could anyone that have experience with this installation let me know what should I do? Im really looking forward to using 10G Designer. If this is not solved, then I'll resort back to using 6i. Maybe from there things are easier. Thanks in advance.

After some heavy googling the problem is solved.

  • Problem in updating relationships - Oracle Design Editor

    Hello
I am using the tool Oracle Design Editor of the Oracle suite Desginer for ERD modeling.
I'm having trouble updating the changes in primary keys of tables in their relationships children (FK), is not updating. When I delete a primary key field, the table has the reference field is not being deleted.
This is a software failure or is a normal behavior?
    Someone could help me.

I'd love to try this out and see what really happens, so I can give you the absolutely correct answer. Unfortunately, I've been snowed in and haven't been in the office all week, and I don't have Designer on the home computer on which I'm typing this.
My guess from faulty memory is that if you delete a column from a multi-column PK, Designer will remove the column from the FK constraints that reference it, but will not remove the corresponding column from the related tables. After all, Designer doesn't know that this column is ONLY used as part of an FK. As far as it knows, you may need that column for some other purpose.
Let me give you two hints about the way Designer was designed to work that may clarify this:
First of all, Designer has an Entity/Relationship diagrammer that works on the logical design level - modeling Entities rather than Tables, and Relationships rather than Foreign Keys. It was expected by the creators of the tool that you would do most of your design in the ER diagrams, then use the Database Design Transformer (DDT) to translate that design to the Table Definitions of your physical design. In the E/R diagrammer, you can designate key attributes (attributes become your columns), but you don't have to. DDT will create key columns for you when it translates your logical design to a physical one.
Secondly, Designer expects that most of your primary keys will be surrogate primary keys that are single columns set from Oracle Sequences. There are many advantages to using surrogate keys for PKs and FKs, while natural keys are used only for unique keys. One of the advantages is that surrogate keys are non-updatable, which will greatly reduce the chore of maintaining foreign keys. If you do a web search, you will see a lot of discussion of the pros and cons of surrogate PKs.

  • How do I upgrade from Design Collection?

I've been using Mac OSX10.3.9 via Quicksilver 1.4 PowerPC with 2g's RAM/120g HD. My system ( knock on wood ) is running well with Font Agent Pro 3.x and an HP Designjet 10ps. This setup is a good three years old. No problems proofing, web authoring, page layouts, blah, blah, blah. I've been hesitant in upgrading to CS apps and ignored CS1, CS2, CS3. But, because I am a design studio, I receive CS3 files. I'd like to keep the operating system ( because of its ability to access OS9 apps ) for as long as I can. I'm on a very limited budget and have an existing Educator version of the Design Collection ( Illus. 10, PS7, ID2 ). Question: where can I buy an unopened box of the CS2 Design Premium? I'm not ready for CS3, I'm going to wait until I get new Apple hardware for that transition. Thanks for your help.

    > So, you suggest bypassing CS2 and upgrading to CS3?
It's not so much a suggestion but very strong advice based on many posts
from people who've been taken by software pirates.
You say you have academic versions now. But they're pretty old and I'm
going to guess that you don't have that kind of eligibility anymore so
you really need to buy an upsell version since you don't have a suite to
    upgrade from.
I've got a page on my website where I at least attempt to unravel a lot
of this stuff. You can read it here:
    http://www.theindesignguy.com/puchase-advice.html
BTW, I'll secong Mike's suggestion. You're going to get a good deal more
bang for the buck out of a mid range Windows box. I'm running CS3 on
Vista 64 here and everything runs great. A side benefit is that
Photoshop CS4 will be available in 64 bit for Windows Vista only. You'll
need a boatload of RAM to notice the difference but it will be great if
you're working on very large images.
Again, keep a very close eye on Adobe's September 23 announcement to see
what the upgrade policy will be. If the past is any indication (and it
may or may not be) if you buy CS3 after the announcement it might
include an upgrade to CS4 when it ships.
You can register for the webcast announcing CS4 here:

  • Oracle Designer 6.0 rel. 2.1.2  hazy installation

I'm trying to install an oracle designer 6.0 rel 2.1.2.
I have installed oracle server 8.1.7 on WIN NT workstation
machine hp p700 128mb. The 8.1.7 server is installed without
java server because PARAMETER COMPATIBLE = 8.0.5, compatibility
with 8.0.5 oracle server, needed for designer 6.0 to work ( as
    per docs ).
I install repository on server then start repository manager on
client and go create repository. The repository procedure starts
working then stops at this stage:
    CKRAU20.EXE
    STAGE DETAILS
    CKPACK
    OBJECT DETAILS
    CIOUE_ELEMENT_TYPE
    SUBMITTING DEFINITION/STATEMENT
    CIUEET.OPB
There's no other way out than killing the process. The problem
is exactly the ciueet.opb sql package; executed standalone
against sqlplus, stops everything the same.
As anybody ever hear about something similar or can guess the
    cause/workaround?
    thank you, daffy duck

Designer versions prior to version 6.5.40 (aka Designer 6i
Release 2) will strike this problem when attempting to import or
install a repository on Oracle database version 8.1.7.
Patchset 7 for Designer 6.0 has a workaround included so that
Designer 6.0 can now avoid this problem.

    Thanks

This problem occurs because Oracle9i import and export utilities are not
compatible with an Oracle 8.1.7 database. This not a bug but an
    Oracle9i design feature.
    Workaround:
To install Oracle SCM on an Oracle 8.1.7 database, you will first need to
install Oracle 8.1.7 import and export utilities in a separate Oracle
Home. The registry variables EXECUTE_IMPORT and EXECUTE_EXPORT need to be
changed to point to these 8.1.7 import and export
utilities instead of to the Oracle9i versions. These variables are found under
    the key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\REPOS61
Note that when installing the 8.1.7 import and export utilities, the following
    error may be encountered:
    There is no oracle.swd.jre 1.1.8.10
The workaround here is to use the Oracle Universal Installer installed onto
your hard disk with the Oracle9i install, to install the Oracle 8.1.7
    components.
    Hope this helps

    Thanks for any feedback,
    Jim

    Found the problem.
It was an issue with the CURSOR with the SELECT ... FROM (SELECT CASE WHEN THEN ELSE END). After swithing to the DECODE statement, Designer is able to generate the package.
    CASE
    WHEN ISOLATION_IND = 'Y' THEN
    'A'
    WHEN OPERATED_IND = 'Y' THEN
    'B'
    ELSE
    'C'
    END
    decode(ISOLATION_IND,'Y','A',decode(OPERATED_IND,'Y','B','C'))
However, still strange to me that Designer doesn't like the CASE as part of SELECT.

    Gracias!

My problem is solved . I was using wrong jar file...

  • Create a new user on Oracle Designer 6

I know this version is not supported anymore but the client still uses it.
I have to create a new repository user and it's done but the user doesn't have access to the different application systems. I get the error CDI-20540 and i can't find a way to give the user access.
    This is what i did:
I've created the user in the database.
Next, I got into Maintain Users in Repository Admin utility and I insert a row for the user by selecting the oracle user I just recreated.
The user should now have access to designer repository and he he can connect but he has no access to any application system.
I go into Repository Object Navigator and I go to Application - Grant Access by Application.
I click on Add User but the repository user doesn't show up.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks!

This has been a lot of years ago but I will try to
    help
    1. grant the user all of the required permissions by
    SYS
connect, resource, create sequence, creat synonyn,
    create table,
Then you will need to select the Maintain Users
    button.
This will allow the user to connect to the reposity.
However they cannot see any of the application
    except the ones they create.
age 2-28 of the instalation guide.
( I do not why I still have that manual here)
To view the other applications theyse must be granted
    by the application owner.
Page 918 of the Oracle Designer Handbook shows the
Grant Access by User screen. needsto be set for you
to view the applications. Thanks for replying but my problem is when I got to Grant Access by User screen, I don't see the user i just created. (Oracle user exists and i can connect to the repository as newly created user).
That's kinda strange and i'm not sure what else i can try.

  • Error when install latest ODB with Oracle Designer

I need to use Oracle Discoverer.
So I removed all traces of Oracle from my machine.
    Installed Oracle Designer Suite.
    It worked.
Then I installed Oracle Data Provider for .NET 9.2.0.2.102..
I got 2 errors during install. One was due to a service (OracleHomeAgent) which I shut down easily.
    The other, was more trouble:
Error in writing to file C:\Oracle\Ora92\bin\oci.dll
I could find no more Oracle services to shut down.
Nor did an IISRESET release it .
So I told it to ignore copying that file.
    Then it finished.
My web applications which use ODP seem to work fine.
But am I at risk for some error?
Why would OCI.DLL not allow itself to be installed?
    Is that a problem?
    thanks
    David Kreth Allen

Most likely, some MS OS services, not Oracle services, are locking your oci.dll. Please refer to the following thread for a workaround.
Re: Can't install 9.2.0.4 Beta on WinXP - oci.dll is locked
