Oracle equivalent of SAP BAPI/RFC? Stored Procedures?

Hello all.
I am looking at the development of integrating our desktop application with Oracle. We would like to upload/download objects from Oracle EAM such as Assets, Work Orders, etc using ODP.NET.
We already have a similar connector to SAP. In this system, we use SAP RFCs in combination with the SAP .Net Connector. SAP RFCs are like a middleware layer that carries out similar functions to the GUI and can be called from .Net. EG you might have an RFC named RFC_CREATE_EQUI, which matches Create Equipment in the GUI. SAP contains many default RFCs covering most of its functions.
I would like to know if there is anything similar to SAP RFCs in Oracle? I believe that stored procedures could be similar, but there are no defaults stored in Oracle.
Or do we just have to access the DB directly with SQL? If so, how do we go about data verification? EG So that I cannot upload an Asset without an Asset Number.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I think I've found out what I need - Oracle Open Interfaces / APIs.
Could someone explain to me the easiest way of calling these from .NET?
Thanks!

  • SAP PI JDBC Stored Procedure Call

    Dear All,
    I have a requirement, where i have to call a stored procedure through reciever JDBC adapter by providing multiple records at a time as input to the stored procedure, and also recieve multiple records at a time.
    Can any one tell me, how the structure of data type should be, to provide multiple input to the stored procedure.
    Please reply soon.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Zafar Ali

    For stored procedure the data type should be designed as mentioned in documentaion for JDBC formats-

    Make the occurance of Statement tag as 0..unbounded to send multiple records in a single message.But each record will inturn call stored procedure.
    Sending multiple records in a single call seems to have restrictions-

  • Oracle 8..How to call stored Procedure to call stored Function

    Student here. Using Oracle 8, without Procedure Builder. Only have SQLPlus environment. Three simple code blocks follow:

    block Two Creates a Procedure

    Follow this steps to run the procedure.
    1. save the procedure in a folder in your hard disk as NEW_SALARY2.SQL.
    2. go to SQL*PLUS and then goto FILE->OPEN
    3. Then goto your folder where you have saved your procedure and then click once(only once) on the procedure name and then click cancel.
    4. Then type SQL>@NEW_SALARY2.SQL;
    it will execute your procedure.
    important: if you don't want to do that then
    type:
    SQL>exec c:\myfolder\NEW_SALARY2.sql
    it will execute your procedure.
    The same applies for your script.

  • Connecting to a non-oracle database (jdbc) from a java stored procedure

    Does anyone know to configure the database to allow a connection to a non-oracle database from a Java Stored procedured, using JDBC?
    Thank you in advance,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    I haven't tried it, and these are just some of my thoughts, but I
    think you would need to load the JDBC driver for the other database
    into the Oracle database (using the "loadjava" tool, of-course).
    Then your java stored procedure should be able to instantiate the
    third party JDBC driver and obtain a connection to the other database.
    Hope this helps.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • How to fetch oracle process id from a stored procedure.

    Hi,
    I want to fetch the oracle process id from within a stored procedure.
    I know that the one way to do this is using the v$process view. But, a grant has to be given to the user on this table. Due to the strict policies at my workplace, I do not have the permission to do this, nor can i ask anyone to give the grant. But, i need the oracle pid very much.
    Is there an alternate way to get the oracle process id from within the stored procedure (without using the v$process view, like we have sys_context() to fetch session id without using v$session) ?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    AP

    Hi,
    The point is i do not want to use v$process ( or v_$process) ,because i can not give the select grant to the user on this view. ( As i need to fetch it from a stored procedure, not from the SQL prompt).
    Rahul , your query is correct. It fetches the values ( though i needed oracle process id not unix pid ; i would get it through p.pid), but i need an alternate approach to this.
    Is there an alternate approach which would enable me to fetch the oracle process id ( without using any of the V$ - system views) ? Does Oracle has such a feature /approach ?

  • Crystal Reports can't add stored procedure using Oracle Provider for OLE DB

    Hello,
    I am trying to bind an oracle stored procedure to a crystal report through Visual Studio 2008.
    This oracle stored procedure returns a ref cursor.
    I am using an oracle 11g database (11.2.0.2.0) .
    When I use the Oracle Provider For OLE DB driver to bind the store procedure with the report, I get the following error message:
    Description : ORA -06550 Line 1 Column 7
    PLS 00306 wrong number of types or arguments to the "Strored Procedure Name"
    But When I use the Microsoft OLE DB provider for oracle driver, I can bind the stored procedure to the report successfully .
    I cannot use the Microsoft OLE DB provider for oracle driver because it does not support the CLOB data type which I plan on having the stored procedure return once I can get everything working.
    I have tried setting PLSQLRSET = 1 IN "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KEY_OraDb11g_home1\OLEDB", but that does not seem to work either
    Any assistance would be greatly Appreciated
    My Stored procedure is very simple as the moment (I just need to get it working then I'll add more stuff). Here's what it looks like:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE PROMO.PKG_REPORT as
    TYPE OUT_Type IS REF CURSOR;
    procedure Report_ThisReport (
    p_ThisIdField IN number,
    IO_CURSOR IN OUT OUT_Type
    end PKG_REPORT;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY PROMO.PKG_REPORT as
    procedure REPORT_ThisReport (
    p_ThisIdField IN number,
    IO_CURSOR IN OUT OUT_Type
    IS
    BEGIN
    OPEN IO_CURSOR FOR
    SELECT ThisField
    FROM ThisTable
    WHERE ThisIdField = p_ThisIdField ;
    END REPORT_ThisReport;
    end PKG_REPORT;

    It seems that some questions posted here on the XE forum are really questions about other Oracle technologies.
    Concretely, for you there is an Oracle Provider for OLE DB Forum that is active and a terrific resource for you to use.

  • Oracle Stored Procedure in Java

    I am try to write a stored procedure which is to written using java and then loaded into oracle. What this stored procedure does is insert some values into an oracle table. Here is a piece of code that i have tested before doing the whole real thing. But the stored procedure compiled, loaded into oracle without problems. Once the stored procedure is executed, it does nothing.
    Heres the code -
    import java.sql.*;
    import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
    public class test{
    public static void insert()
    Connection cn = null;
    PreparedStatement ps = null;
    String sql ="INSERT INTO Testing.test VALUES ('JEFF')";
    try{
    cn = new OracleDriver().defaultConnection();
    ps.execute(sql);
    ps.close();
    cn.commit();
    cn.close();
    }catch(Exception e){
    Here is the table structure in Oracle 9i -
    Name Null? Type
    USER NOT NULL CHAR(12)
    Hope u guys can help me out.

    Once the stored procedure is executed, it does nothing.Actually it DOES do something - it throws a NullPointerException. You have a catch block with nothing in it, so your code doesn't report the problem.
    How do you execute this? Is there another class that calls it?
    This doesn't use a stored procedure. You need a java.sql.CallableStatement for that.
    Where did you get this code? Does it even compile?
    When I tried to create a table named "user" in my Oracle instance it complained. I made it "application_user" instead. How did you ever try this problem?
    I think you need a JDBC tutorial:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/
    Here's how I'd write it:
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.DriverManager;
    import java.sql.PreparedStatement;
    public class OracleInsertTest
        public static final String DRIVER   = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
        // Substitute your host, database, username, and password
        public static final String DATABASE = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@host:1521:database";
        public static final String USERNAME = "username";
        public static final String PASSWORD = "password";
        public static void main(String [] args)
            if (args.length > 0)
                try
                    Class.forName(DRIVER);
                    Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection(DATABASE, USERNAME, PASSWORD);
                    String sql = "INSERT INTO application_user(name) VALUES(?)";
                    PreparedStatement statement = connection.prepareStatement(sql);
                    statement.setString(1, args[0]);
                    int numRowsInserted = statement.executeUpdate();
                    System.out.println("# rows inserted: " + numRowsInserted);
                    statement.close();
                    connection.close();
                catch (Exception e)
                    // Empty catch blocks are usually a very bad idea.
                    e.printStackTrace();
            else
                System.err.println("No command line argument given");
    }MOD

  • URGENT!!! a way to find out if Oracle stored procedures have OUT parameters

    I'm having problemes properly creating a string for the prepareCall().
    so that i can call up a stored procedure in oracle.
    the problem is that some stored procedures have OUT parameters that I have to register, and some stored procedures don't.
    how can i find out if a stored procedure has an OUT parameter or not?
    So that i can format a string with one less ? for statements that don't,
    and one more ? for statements that do have an OUT parameter.
    is there such a method as boolean OUTparameterExist();
    or i'll take any suggestions.

    any other solutions?That was the solution. You don't need to execute any sql statement to get Database Meta Data. You just need a connection, which you use to get the DatabaseMetaData instance
    DatabaseMetaData dbmd = connection.getMetaData();then invoke any of the (numerous) methods to get the info you require
    ResultSet rs = dbmd.getProcedureColumns("mydb","myschema","myproc",null);
    while(rs.next()) {
      String name = rs.getString("COLUMN_NAME");
      if (rs.getShort("COLUMN_TYPE")==DatabaseMetaData.procedureColumnOut) {
        // column is an OUT parameter
    }Dave

  • How to generate a report from stored procedure

    I would like to generate a report from stored procedure.
    I used to work on sql server. this can be done as easy as put a select statement at the end of stored procedure.
    The resule can be displayed on the development IDE, like sql developer or consume by Java JDBC client.
    is there equivalent way to do this in Oracle stored procedure?

    Hi,
    What type of report you are looking..for.. ??
    As you said that "I used to work on sql server. this can be done as easy as put a select statement at the end of stored procedure. "
    When you execute it will return the result set and you will display directly on the FrontEnd.. Is my Understanding is correct Up to here.
    See, In oracle you have call some custom stored procedures as you did in SQL Sever, but you have return the Results Sets, with help of Out put paramter, Either Cursors or Varrays..
    or Else you can generate the Html reports based on your requirement, HTML can be used in the stored procedures of Oracle which will generate for your, you need to code it.
    I could not able get the relevant link for your reference.
    I will get back to you on this.
