Oracle Express Security Features

I wanna know how can we implement security in Oracle express if we are using Oracle express as MDB and importing data from flat file. I dont wanna use operating system level security.Any buddy answere me please.........

Hello,
what you can do (and what we have done) is to LDAP-enable your operating system. I think HP-UX must also have some kind of PAM (plugable authentification module). You then can configure your PAM to first look into /etc/passwd and then to look into the LDAP.
hope this gives you a good hint
greetings

  • Is the Oracle Expression Filter supported on ca be used in an XE version?

    Hi everybody.
    Is the Oracle Expression Filter feature supported for the Oracle Database XE ?. According to documentation, this is a feature available only to Standard (Standard Edition One i guess) and Enterprise Edition. However, i can see the script catexf in the rdbms/admin directory in my XE Oracle Home.
    Thanks in advance ...!

    Hello,
    Expression Filter depends on some functionality that is not included in XE. So the Expression Filter feature is not supported in XE.
    Regards,
    -Aravind.

  • Security feature missing in new Airport Express

    The new Airport Express does not support non broadcasting SSID as confirmed by Apple support. Virtually all of Apples other products allow you access a non broadcasting network by just entering the name one time in network settings.  This allows you to hide your network by selecting to not broadcast the SSID (your network name) on your wireless router so others cannot see it with their computers, phones and laptops etc. My six year old Airport express supports this however I cannot imagine why the new one does not. Very disappointed. Why did they leave this out?

    Why did they leave this out?
    When there are dozens of free utilities available on the Internet that will reveal a "hidden" network in seconds, it is of little value as a security "feature".
    As far as leaving the "feature" out, are you saying that the settings for the feature were left out......or the settings for the feature are there....but they do not work?

    Your reply is most welcomed. I am working for 2 days, if you know just give few minutes to address this issue.

    Hi,
    not sure what the error message is that you get. However, if you access an application through prortal then the security needs to be enforced by the portal, not the application itself because the portal will modify the request headers.
    Did you ask the question on the WebCenter or Portal forum here on OTN

  • FUNCTION-BASED INDEX ( ORACLE 8I NEW FEATURE )

    제품 : ORACLE SERVER
    작성날짜 : 2004-08-16
    FUNCTION-BASED INDEX ( ORACLE 8I NEW FEATURE )
    ==============================================
    SCOPE
    10g Standard Edition(10.1.0) 이상 부터 Function-based Index 기능이 지원된다.
    Explanation
    1. 개요
         Function-based index는, 함수(function)이나 수식(expression)으로 계산
    된 결과에 대해 인덱스를 생성하여 사용할 수 있는 기능을 제공한다.
         질의 수행 시 해당 함수나     수식을 처리하여     결과를 가져 오는 것이 아니라,
         인덱스 형태로 존재하는 미리 계산되어 있는 결과를 가지고 처리하므로
         성능 향상을 기할 수 있다.
    2. 제약사항
    1) aggregate function 에 대한 function-based index 생성 불가.
    (예 : sum(...) )
    2) LOB, REF, nested table 컬럼에 대한 function-based index 생성 불가.
    3. 주요 특징
         1) cost-based optimizer에 의해 사용됨.
         2) B*Tree / bitmap index로 생성 가능.
         3) 산술식 (arithmetic expression), PLSQL function, SQL built-in
    function 등에 적용 가능.
         4) 함수나 수식으로 처리된 결과에 대한 range scan 가능
         5) NLS SORT 지원
         6) SELECT/DELETE를 할 때마다 함수나 수식의 결과를 계산하는 것이 아니라
         INSERT/UPDATE 시 계산된 값을 인덱스에 저장.
         7) 질의 속도 향상
         8) object column이나 REF column에 대해서는 해당 object에 정의된
         method에 대해 function-based index 생성 가능.
    4. 생성 방법
         CREATE [UNIQUE | BITMAP ] INDEX <index_name>
         ON <tablename> (<index-expression-list>)
         <index-expression-list> -> { <column_name> | <column_expression> }
         예) CREATE INDEX EMP_NAME_INDEX ON EMP (UPPER(ENAME));
         CREATE INDEX EMP_SAL_INDEX ON EMP( SAL + COMM, empno);
         * Function-based index를 생성하기 위해서는 QUERY REWRITE 권한이
         부여 되어 있어야만 한다.
         예) GRANT QUERY REWRITE TO SCOTT;
    5. Function-Based Index 사용을 위한 사전 작업
         1) Function-based index는 cost based optimizer에서만 사용 가능하므로,
         테이블에 대해 미리 analyze 해 주는 것이 바람직하다.
         그리고 init 파일에서 OPTIMIZER_MODE 를 FIRST_ROWS 나 ALL_ROWS 등으
    로 지정하거나 HINT 등을 사용하여 cost based optimizer가 사용되도록
    한다.
         2) init 파일에서 COMPATIBLE 파라미터 값을 8.1 이상으로 설정되어 있어야
    한다.
         ( 예 : COMPATIBLE = 8.1.6 )
         3) session/instance level 에서 QUERY_REWRITE_ENABLED 값이 TRUE 지정
    되어 있어야 한다.
         ( 예 : ALTER SESSION SET QUERY_REWRITE_ENABLED = TRUE; )
    6. 예제
         1) init 파라미터에서 다음과 같이 지정
         compatible = 8.1.6 (반드시 8.1이상이어야 한다)
         query_rewrite_enabled = true
         query_rewrite_integrity = trusted
         2) SCOTT 유저에서 function_based_index 생성
         create index idx_emp_lower_ename
         on emp
         ( lower(ename) ) ;
         3) EMP table analyze
         analyze table emp compute statistics ;
         4) PLAN_TABLE 생성
         @ ?/rdbms/admin/utlxplan.sql
         5) Cost based optimizer 선택
         alter session set optimizer_mode = FIRST_ROWS ;
         6) Query 실행
         explain plan set statement_id='qry1' FOR
         select empno, ename
         from emp
         where lower(ename) = 'ford' ;
         7) PLAN 분석
         SELECT LPAD(' ',2*level-2)||operation||' '||options||' '||object_name query_plan
         FROM plan_table
         WHERE statement_id='qry1'
         CONNECT BY prior id = parent_id
         START WITH id = 0 order by id ;
         -> 결과
         QUERY_PLAN
         SELECT STATEMENT
         TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID EMP
         INDEX RANGE SCAN IDX_EMP_LOWER_ENAME
    7. 결론
    Function-based index는 적절하게 사용될 경우 성능상의 많은 이점을 가져
    온다. Oracle8i Designing and Tuning for Performance에서도 가능한 한
    Function-based index를 사용하는 것을 권장하고 있으며, LOWER(), UPPER()
    등의 함수를 사용하여 불가피하게 FULL TABLE SCAN을 하는 경우에 대해서도
    효과적으로 처리해 줄 수 있는 방안이라 할 수 있다.
    Reference Documents
    -------------------

    Partha:
    From the Oracle8i Administrators Guide:
    "Table owners should have EXECUTE privileges on the functions used in function-based indexes.
    For the creation of a function-based index in your own schema, you must be
    granted the CREATE INDEX and QUERY REWRITE system privileges. To create
    the index in another schema or on another schemas tables, you must have the
    CREATE ANY INDEX and GLOBAL QUERY REWRITE privileges."
    Hope this helps.

  • (V9I) ORACLE 9I NEW FEATURE : ORACLE FLASHBACK

    제품 : ORACLE SERVER
    작성날짜 : 2002-11-01
    (V9I) ORACLE 9I New Feature : ORACLE FLASHBACK
    ==============================================
    PURPOSE
    Oracle9i 새로운 기능인 Flashback 의 등장으로 Commit 된 Transaction 에 대해
    특정 시점의 과거 DATA를 Query가 가능함으로써 Self-service repair 기능이 향상되었다.
    다음 Flashback query 기능과 Setup 방법 및 실제 Data Recovery 에 관한 내용에 대해 알아보도록 한다.
    Explanation
    Flashback : 새로운 기능인 Flahback 은 과거 시점의 consistent view 를 볼 수있는
    기능으로 system time or systme change number(SCN) 기반 read-only view이다.
    다음은 Flashback 기능을 사용하기 위해 미리 설정해야할 부분에 대해 알아보도록 한다.
    1) 반드시 Automatic Undo Management 에서만 가능
    (initSID.ora file이나 spfile에 다음 파라미터가 auto로 설정)
    UNDO_MANAGEMENT = AUTO
    2) Rentention interval 을 두어 해당 time 동안은 inactive rollback 이라 하더라도
    overwrite 되지 않도록 유지(초단위)
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET undo_retention = 1200;
    UNDO_RETENTION 을 지정한 다음 실제 적용을 위해 5분정도 기다려야 한다.
    3) DBMS_FLASHBACK package를 이용하여 Flashback 기능을 enable 시킨다.
    SQL> call dbms_flashback.enable_at_time('9-NOV-01:11:00:00');
    Example1. Flashback setup 과 date/time 설정
    1) Undo tablespace 생성
    SQL> create undo tablespace UNDOTBS datafile
    '/database/901/V901/undotbs01.dbf' size 100M;
    2) intiSID or spfile 에 다음 파라미터 적용
    undo_management=auto
    undo_retention=1200
    undo_tablespace=UNDOTBS
    3) dbms_flashback exeucte 권한 grant
    SQL> connect / as sysdba
    Connected.
    SQL> grant execute on dbms_flashback to testuser;
    Grant succeeded.
    4) test table 생성
    SQL> connect testuser/testuser;
    Connected.
    SQL> create table emp_flash as select * from scott.emp;
    Table created.
    SQL> select count(*) from emp_flash;
    COUNT(*)
    15
    5) table 생성후 5분 정도 waiting -> table delete
    SQL> delete from emp_flash;
    15 rows deleted.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> select count(*) from emp_flash;
    COUNT(*)
    0
    6) flashback 활성화
    SQL> execute DBMS_FLASHBACK.ENABLE_AT_TIME(sysdate - 5/1440);
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> select count(*) from emp_flash;
    COUNT(*)
    15
    SQL> execute DBMS_FLASHBACK.DISABLE;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> select count(*) from emp_flash;
    COUNT(*)
    0
    Example2. Flashback 으로 잃어버린 data recovery
    1) test user 생성
    SQL> connect testuser/testuser;
    Connected.
    SQL> create table emp_recover as select * from scott.emp;
    Table created.
    SQL> select count(*) from emp_recover;
    COUNT(*)
    15
    2) delete table
    SQL> VARIABLE SCN_SAVE NUMBER;
    SQL> EXECUTE :SCN_SAVE := DBMS_FLASHBACK.GET_SYSTEM_CHANGE_NUMBER;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> PRINT SCN_SAVE
    SCN_SAVE
    6.4455E+12
    SQL> select count(*) from emp_recover;
    COUNT(*)
    15
    SQL> delete from emp_recover;
    15 rows deleted.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> select count(*) from emp_recover;

    3) flashback 이용한 data recover
    SQL> DECLARE
    2 CURSOR FLASH_RECOVER IS
    3 select * from emp_recover;
    4 emp_recover_rec emp_recover%ROWTYPE;
    5 begin
    6 DBMS_FLASHBACK.ENABLE_AT_SYSTEM_CHANGE_NUMBER(:SCN_SAVE);
    7 open FLASH_RECOVER;
    8 DBMS_FLASHBACK.DISABLE;
    9 loop
    10 FETCH FLASH_RECOVER INTO emp_recover_rec;
    11 EXIT WHEN FLASH_RECOVER%NOTFOUND;

  • Basic connection of data of oracle express with oracle BPA suite

    hello,
    by this means I ask for its aid to be able to solve the following problem, have oracle express edition and business process architect besides business process to publisher and need that both connect to the base of express edition,
    can help me? ,
    thank you very much

    If you want to load HTML file content as structured data, you have 2 basic choices.
    If the HTML is XHTML compliant, then you can process it using the XML functions and XDB features of Oracle. The likelihood that it conforms to XHTML is slight though - very few web systems and services (to my knowledge) dish up XHTML. And plain HTML is not compliant.
    The 2nd choice - well, a dirty one as you will need to find some kind of method to change HTML data into structured data. You can use a HTML parser that builds a HTML DOM - Gecko can be used for example. However, this is not a trivial exercise.
    So instead you can also look at creating code that specifically support the HTML content that you need to process (these should use a static formatting model for the same page types). You can use string processing (Perl, lex, awk, regex, etc) to extract the usable data content from the HTML file and then load that into Oracle as structured data.
    Whatever the method - if not XHTML, then you can expect a fair deal of complexity loading structured data from HTML content.

  • Enabling Oracle Label Security on 9.2.0.7 database

    Hi there,
    I have installed the option Oracle Label Security and patched it to 9.2.0.7. I have then run the script $ORAHOME\rdbms\admin\catols.sql . Which re-starts the database.
    But when I run the below example I get the below error.
    SQL> CONNECT lbacsys/lbacsys
    Connected.
    SQL> EXECUTE SA_SYSDBA.CREATE_POLICY( -
    'FACILITY','FACLAB','READ_CONTROL,CHECK_CONTROL,LABEL_DEFAULT,HIDE');
    BEGIN SA_SYSDBA.CREATE_POLICY( 'FACILITY','FACLAB','READ_CONTROL,CHECK_CONTROL,LABEL_DEFAULT,HIDE'); END;
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Oracle Label Security

    ORA-06512: at "LBACSYS.SA_SYSDBA", line 43
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    I have also noticed that in the v$option view shows the
    PARAMETER VALUE
    Oracle Label Security FALSE
    I have compared the number of objects to metalink article 171155.1 How to Install / Deinstall Oracle Label Security and all the objects seem to be in the schema.
    Also I check the version and saw below.
    SQL> conn dba/
    Connected.
    SQL> COL comp_name FORMAT A32
    SQL> COL version FORMAT A16
    SQL> SELECT
    2 comp_id
    3 ,comp_name
    4 ,version
    5 FROM dba_registry
    6 where comp_id='OLS';
    COMP_ID COMP_NAME VERSION
    OLS Oracle Label Security 9.2.0.7.0
    1 rows selected.
    SQL>
    Anyone know how I can enable Oracle Label Security is that it works?
    TIA
    Ed

    I still have some old 9.2.0.8 databases running on both HP-UX and AIX and have clients on 10.2g which doesn't manifest any problem .

  • Oracle Express and regedit

    Hi!
    I installed Oracle Express on Windows XP and I want to use PL/SQL Developer (could be any other tool) to develop with pl/sql. But I realize that the Express installation does not creates the usual HOME0 or HOME1 nor ALL_HOMES Oracle entries in the regedit, and I need them so my tool can detect the instance.
    Why the Oracle Express does not create these entries in regedit and how can I create them? I don't know which entries I need.
    Regards

    Hi,
    Thank you for your fast response.
    RPuttagunta, with the new PL/SQL Developer 7 trial it works fine and the database name XE is found, but with earlier versions like 5.0 (which is what we got in my project) it doesn't work. A workaround I found is to manually create the HOME1 and ALL_HOMES entries in the regedit, taking as a reference an Oracle 9i client installation. My question is if that regedit entries are present in the 10g and future versions, or we will have to patch all the installations.
    Legatti, SQL Developer is fine and I liked, but PL/SQL Dev still has some additional features we are used to work with. Anyway I will suggest it to the manager as an alternative to get an upgrade of PL/SQL, since it is free to use.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Oracle express vs regular edition

    how are you?
    wanted to ask you the following:
    i am doing an online course in PL/SQl (see below for syllabus) and originally i installed
    an Oracle Express 10 edition.
    my instructor though told me that i should install a regular edition because
    'express edition behaves quite differently'.
    the problem is that regular edition consumes a lot of resources and really slows down the computer. i have a feeling that for this
    course (see below) there is not reason to install the whole of Oracle.
    what is your opinions shall i switch to oracle express?
    thank you :)
    ===========
    Intermediate Oracle
    Gain hands-on experience with Oracle's PL/SQL programming language, with expert assistance from an IT veteran. PL/SQL is Oracle's procedural language extension to Structured Query Language (SQL). This course will give you the skills you need to write powerful and flexible programs using that language. You'll learn the building blocks and core features of PL/SQL, including expressions, various iterations, and built-in functions. Then, you'll begin building fully functional PL/SQL programs with procedures, packages, debugging routines, database structures, triggers, and cursor processing. By the time you finish this course, you will be able to store PL/SQL programs in a database and execute them.

    Duke555 wrote:

    'express edition behaves quite differently'.I would ask the instructor for details.
    Express Edition runs exactly the same PL/SQL and SQL engine as the big guys.
    Express, however, does not include Java in the database so it is not possible to run or call Java Stored Procedures. This is often considered an 'advanced topic'.
    In my experience, with the exception of some 'advanced' built-in packages such as Spatial (which are also advanced topics) even many of the supplied Packages and Procedures will work. As an example, even Application Express works on XE and that is done 'entirely in PL/SQL'.
    The instructor is absolutely correct if referring to the management interface. Express Edition does not include DB Control. But that is not a 'PL/SQL' or 'SQL' topic unless dealing with performance management and Diagnostic/Tuning packs.
    More details are necessary ... 'proof by blatant assertion' is not an answer in this case.

  • Using restore points WITHOUT flashback possible (in Oracle Express versio)?

    For development I am using Oracle Express 10g version rather than Enterprise version.
    Unfortunately the "Flashback" feature is NOT available in Express version (only in Enterprise).
    I can CREATE a RESTORE POINT but I can NOT go back to it with a Flashback instruction like
    FLASHBACK DATABASE TO RESTORE POINT myrp234;
    Is there a workaround for this in Oracle Express?
    Being able to CREATE a RESTORE POINT is useless if I cannot go back to this RP.
    So I guess there must be another way?

    Or is the latter feature only available in the 11g ENTERPRISE version?Flashback Database is Enterprise Edition feature and not available in XE edition.
    Feature Restrictions
    XE has most important application development features included, including Flashback Query (but no Flashback Data Archive), Analytical Functions, DBMS_EPG (embedded PL/SQL gateway for http support), Advanced Queuing, APEX, Oracle Text, LOB, Temporary Table, Model Clause, External Tables…

  • Oracle Express : Express not switching to EDT

    Hi,
    We have Oracle Express Server 6.2.0.0.0
    on NT 4.0 (service pack 6).
    This week-end the server leaped ahead 1 hour
    automatically (EDT-Eastern Daylight Time).
    For some reason, Express is not returning
    the EDT time but the previous time.
    We tried rebootintg the server.
    We also tried shutting down all Express
    Services and putting them back up...
    Nothing works.
    The only way is to change the date
    manually (not checking the Automatically
    adjust clock... in WinNT date/Time
    properties)
    Does anyone have an idea why ?
    Thanks,
    SLB.
    null

    It sounds like OES is getting the time from teh CMOS setting instead of the o/s. Microsoft is altering the time within the o/s (not the cmos) .. hence the problem.
    Personally, I don't use features like "automatically adjust time", so I've never seen this.

  • ORA-00904 Oracle express 10g

    I've downloaded oracle express 10g and am trying to learn application builder. When I build a new application the database used on the last tab gets a ORA-00904. If I drop the table and recreate it the problem goes away until I try to build another application. I suspect this is a bug rather than a feature. Any Ideas anyone
