Oracle ODBC as user works but fails as 'SYS'
Windows 7
Oracle XE 11gR2
From Windows, I can successfully create and connect with a system data source using an user Oracle account.
But when doing then same configuration process I can not create or connect using the 'SYS' account.
Understandably, I get the error 'ORA-2009: connection as SYS should be as SYSDBA or SYSOPER'.
What is the solution to creating an ODBC DSN for the user 'SYS'?
Thanks
I am writing an automated installation script that requres DBA access in order to create user accounts (schemas), tablespaces, etc. I need to log into Oracle as 'SYS' and the application uses ODBC to connect to the database.

Scp works when logging with my user id but fails when using another one
Hello all:
I wrote a script that uses scp to transfer specific local files to a server. The script takes the user id and password and pass them as scp's parameters for authentication.
Everything works fine when I uses my own user id to test the script but it fails when I used another id (with ligitimate password) to do the same thing.
I suspect it's a privilege issue. Both ids belong to the same group. Where should I look to fingure this out?
Thanks,
JohnSCP is part of SSH. SSH requires the exchange of authorization keys to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks.
When you log in the first time you may see a prompt like:
RSA key fingerprint is 98:2e:d7:e0:de:9f:ac:67:28:d2:42:2e:37:16:58:45.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?
This might be where your script fails. Since it prompts only the first time, you may just have to do one interactive SSH login to create an entry in ~/.ssh/known_hosts
Or setup User equivalence to omit the exchange of passwords.

War file created in Eclipse works, but fails when created by Ant
Hi,
I am having trouble getting my flex war file to work when I create it using Ant, even though the same war works fine when I create it from my Eclipse Export War function. This is a critical problem and any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have a working installation of LCDS running under JBoss 4.0.5 (in a CENTOS (Red Hat) environment). I have implemented a datatier in Java to interact with my PostgreSQL 8.x database. The Java code, plus the necessary flex jars and xml files and some mxml test programs, are all in an Eclipse J2EE project that I created from the flex samples.war file. It all works fine when I use Eclipse to create a WAR from the project and deploy it in JBoss. My problem is this: When I create a WAR piece by piece using Ant, then deploy it to JBoss, that WAR does not work. The error I get is this:
javax.servlet.ServletException: Invalid Configuration: see previous failures. flex.webtier.util.ServiceUtil.setupFlexService(ServiceUtil.java:55) flex.webtier.server.j2ee.MxmlServlet.init(MxmlServlet.java:57), etc.
When I look at the log I see this problem:
"You have more than one version of 'org.apache.commons.logging.Log' visible, which is not allowed.",
but that error is in the server log even when I use the good WAR file.
I have compared the two wars but cannot find any substantial difference between them.
Thanks in advance!Have you tried enabling debug level logging and removing the category filters in services-config.xml? It should show all the destinations being created, and if any are failing. To get the maximum level of log detail, something like this should work:
><logging>
>
> <target class="flex.messaging.log.ConsoleTarget" level="Debug">
>
> <properties>
>
> <prefix>[Flex] </prefix>
>
> <includeDate>false</includeDate>
>
> <includeTime>false</includeTime>
>
> <includeLevel>false</includeLevel>
>
> <includeCategory>false</includeCategory>
>
> </properties>
>
> </target>
>
> </logging>
Have a check that your remoting destinations are shown starting correctly for both WAR files, and see if there are any messages in the log that might be relevant. -
Oracle ODBC Gateway SELECT from Sybase fails on large column
OS: CentOS 5.8 64-bit
DB: Oracle XE 11gR1 64-bit
Gateway: Oracle Gateway for ODBC 64-bit
Database and gateway reside on same Linux Server.
Connecting to remote Sybase SQL Anywhere 10 server on WindowsXP.
Using SQL Anywhere 11 odbc driver and unixODBC driver manager on Linux server.
isql tool connects without any problems.
One LISTENER, service for db and gateway on same port.
===================================
Via SQL*Plus, the following error occurs....
SQL> select * from mytable@dblink;
select * from mytable@dblink
ORA-02070: database dblink does not support outer joins in this context
Gateway does not like the 'large' column which is varchar(3270) in length. Also it is the only
column in the table that is a varchar.
Take that column out and SELECT works fine.

10.4.11 Install with two users working but one with a blue screen
On installation of 10.4.11 two of the users are working just fine but one give only a blue screen. My next thought is to try going back to 10.4 and doing an archive and install. Any other thoughts? Thanks.
If either good user account is an admin user, log into it, delete the bad user account, saving user data (that creates a /Users/Disabled Users/disk image), recreate the account, using the same username/password account, log into it, mount the disk image, and merge the data.

JDBC:Count Array. SQL query works but fails in JDBC
Hi,
I'm using the following SQL query
"SELECT red.id, name, count(green.id) FROM red, green WHERE area = 'northeast' AND red.id = zid GROUP BY name"
It executes perfectly from the DB command line giving me the results.
However when I call it from within JDBC i am getting null values.
My JDBC call ia as follows( Where lst is the above query)
rs = st.executeQuery(lst);
while(rs.next()){
nidV.addElement(rs.getString("red.id"));
nnmV.addElement(rs.getString("name"));
nnumV.addElement(rs.getString("count(green.id)"));
I do realize that many folks use Integer for count queries but I pull them with as Strings all the time so that's not it.
The one diffrence between this and my other count queries is that this one returns an array (Vector) of counts.
Any ideas?the problem is probably:
SELECT red.id, name, count(green.id) ...
nnumV.addElement(rs.getString("count(green.id)"));you can either use an alias for the column;
SELECT red.id, name, count(green.id) COUNT_VAR
nnumV.addElement(rs.getObject("COUNT_VAR"));or use getObject(3) as suggested by drclap. -
Memory leak using Oracle ODBC connection. Works perfect with MSSQL.
Hello,
what could cause memory leaks which is not persistent. Sometimes in different OS and sometimes in different hardware. the common player to my issue is only with oracle.A memory leak that is not persistent is not a memory leak.
You'll have to be way more specific for a more meaningful answer.
Have you tried memory profiling tools for your operating system to locate the "leak"?

Got 1.9 yesterday and tried to conecet two different esata hard drives. Both appeared to go through the recognition step but after reboot the drives do not show up. Anyone else had trouble with this? Getting various opinions from different fios people whether the external hard drive is even supported in 1.9.
What errors or messages do you get, if any?

The keyboard functions work but fails to display in Windows 7
I have the recent 15 inch, i7 Macbook Pro (2.2 GHz version). I had no problem installing Windows 7 using Bootcamp and have updated the Bootcamp after the installation via Apple Update.
To clarify, what I mean by that is all the functions such as volume control, eject, and brightness control from the keyboard works. However, at the beginning of the bootcamp install, I was able to see the icons pop up on the display. Now, there are no icons anymore. I now have Windows 7 Professional SP1, and have my suspicion on the Windows update. Any ideas?Well... this is what I found out and what I did to "fix" my problem. First my situation was that I had 2 drives, a lite-on blu-ray rom drive that was supposed to basically read anything, and a pioneer blu-ray burner. I was going to use the rom drive to do my reading and reserve the burner for just that, burning. What I found out, because Encore would freeze when loading, was that Adobe uses a Roxio routine to go out and get the information about all the drive in the environment to know how to use said drive(s) for this session. The Roxio routines hang in an endless loop, for me, on the rom drive. When I go into device manager and disable the rom drive, Encore loads just fine and I can master... whatever, and burn or create ISO images and go on my merry way. When done, I can re-enable the drive and use it as intended except for trying to use it in Encore.
This happens in CS3, CS4, CS5, and I think I tried it in CS5.5. Roxio never has "fixed" the problem.
My fix to fix the problem.. I replaced the blu-ray rom drive with another pioneer burner. Turns out the new drive was a newer version. So I moved the older version pioneer to the lower drive letter and use it as the reader drive for anything and setup the newer pioneer drive as my burner drive. Encore loads with both drives enabled, I can master anything, and eveything works fine. I've given up trying to have a rom drive for "just reading".
Also, given up testing to see if Roxio has ever "fixed" thier init routines for Encore. It always works this way with 2 burners on my system. One I use as a "reader" all the time which is also my backup burner and one as my "production" burner. And BTW, I usually build on ISO image with Encore and use Image Burn to burn my multiple copies output.
This is my "fix"!! -

Request by web url works but fails by IP Address
I am in a fix . I am trying to develop and HTTPSClient in java which will run and get html from this URL
https://webqa.mpnr.com/servlet/Test
Since this website is served by 4 separate boxes with a load balancer in between . I want to creat a utility which can basically request HTML from each server .
I put my script (firewall no issue) in each box and trying to access by https://19.44.14.172:8079/servlet/Test . The IP address changes for each box which I get accordingly .
I get Unrecognized ssl handshake What does that mean .I know JSSE is installed properly as I could get document with this request https://webqa.mpnr.com/servlet/Test
why am I not able to get by IP and Port number :
The reason for using IP is that I am inside a firewall so I need to do that ..
ANy Security and JSSE gurus ..helpJust a thougth: could it be that you are using a server-certificate that is made for the webaddress and not for the IP address? For a server-certificate the DN field should be the server name...

Query slow in user schema but fast in sys schema
Hi,
DB :10.2.
OS :Aix
Tool : Toad
We executed a query which fast(20 seconds) in sys schema.
But it's taking slow in user schema(it is taken 10 minutes).
Yesterday we gathered dictionary stats also.
Any suggestions.
Thanks & Regards,
VNYou're querying a bunch of USER_<<x>> data dictionary views. Since those views show the objects owned by the current user, the script you generate will be completely different depending on the identity of the current user and the set of objects owned by the current user. If you create a new user and run this script as the new user, it will be even faster because USER_TABLES, USER_SEGMENTS, USER_INDEXES, etc. will all be empty.
I don't understand why you would issue a MOVE on a table without specifying a new tablespace-- that seems like a pointless exercise. And I would seriously question the architect that wants to use ANALYZE to gather statistics rather than using DBMS_STATS.

Download and installing oracle odbc driver alone
Hi all,
I wanted to find out if I can download just the oracle odbc driver and install in without actually installing oracle database or client version on windows PC.
thank youYou will need to have some Oracle software on your machine for the Oracle ODBC driver to function.
If you can use the 10g client, you can install the 10g Instant Client and the ODBC driver. The Instant Client is a minimal set of libraries that allow components like the Oracle ODBC driver to work. The 10g client, though, is not certified to connect to databases earlier than 8.1.7.
If you have to use an earlier version, you have to install the full Oracle client, which is not a small install, to be able to use the Oracle ODBC driver.

ODBC--connection to 'SQL Serverservername' failed for one user but not another
In Win7, we're linking tables in an MS Access 2010 db to tables in a SQL Server 2008 R2 db. The driver user by the File dsn is SQL Server version 6.01.7601.17514 & we're using SQL Server Authentication.
For some reason, one user gets the msg "ODBC--connection to 'SQL Serverservername' failed" before they're even asked for a password, but for other users, the prompt comes up and when they uncheck the Windows Auth box, they enter their password
and connect successfully to the SQL Server db. Both users have db_datareader access to the SQL Server db.
I had the user that gets the error msg log onto my PC and they get the same error (yet it works for me.)
This user was, however, able to successfully relink the tables, but then when we closed the access db and opened it again, the user got the "ODBC--connection..." error agin.
I'm stumped as to why this is happening for one user.Hello Knellen,
Please help to collect more log information regarding this issue, such as windows event log, SQL Sever log information. They are helpful for us to troubleshoot it.

Elvis Long

ThanksHi,
You have customers who are running distributed transactions using a gateway which need to be rolled back. However, the gateway has not been correctly configured for distributed transactions. To roll back a transaction on the SQL*Server database a connection is made as the user defined in the parameter HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT in the gateway init<sid>.ora file but this user has not been created in the SQL*Server database with the password defined in HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD. This user also needs to own the transaction log table.
I assume you are using the Database Gateway for SQL*Server (DG4MSQL) as the Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) doesn't support distributed transaction.
If you have access to My Oracle Support have a look at this note -
How to Setup DG4MSQL to Use Distributed Transactions (Doc ID 227011.1)
Otherwise, check the Gateway documentation.

Mike
