Oracle Path

Hello:
I have installed Oracle 11g in my personal laptop. I now want to access oracle objects in that database using SAS, which is also installed in
my same personal laptop. Should I give the path as Orcl?
thanks,
AP

can you post your OS version?
if Unix, check in
cat /etc/oratabhere you can find the oracle home and sid as well
if windows,
then here you have two ways
1) go to start -> run -> regedit and ctrl+f -> oracle
you can find oracle registries all
2) or else go to start -> run -> services.msc and find out for oracle services properties.
Thanks

    I have install oracle 11g on Oracle Enterprize Linux 5 successfully.
    done all post installating steps, but when i restart server oracle listener/database/EM not automatically start.
    Please guide what is wron (server dbora error: /bin/sh: :No such file or directory).
    1. Log in as the root user
    2. Edit the oratab file (SID=Y)
    3. Create a file called dbora
    4.Run chmod and chgrp on the dbor file
    # chgrp dba dbora
    # chmod 750 dbora
    6.Creat symbolic links to the dbora script

    does the script work when you log on to your freshly started system, logon as root and execute /etc/init.d/dbora start?
    the script does not have to have group membership of the dba group.
    also, do not create symlinks yourself.
    by adding the service using chkconfig the script is started and stopped as indicated by chkconfig --list, no need to do additional steps like creating symlinks.

  • Oracle 9.2.0.3.0 patch set for windows - questions

    Hi!
    I have for that some questions. I have oracle 9.2.0.1.0 on a windows 2003 server running with one local database - no real apllication cluster.
    I don't understand which instructions I have to make for oracle upgrade?
    Must I also make the 3. instruction? Connect to databse prior and drop?
    Must I also make the post install action for my database?
    (startup migrate ...)
    what means at post install actions the following:
    'execute these post install actions only if you have one or more databases associated to the upgraded $oracle_homee.
    My database path is e:\oracle\oradata\database my oracle path is e:\oracle\ora92 have I in my case make the post install actions?
    Thanks for help!
    1. When applying this patchset on Windows NT, XP or Windows 2000, you must log onto the system as a user with Administrative privileges
    (e.g. as a user which is a member of the local Administrators group).
    2. Unzip the downloaded patch set file into a new directory.
    3. Drop the xmlconcat function by running the following commands:
    drop public synonym xmlconcat;
    drop function xmlconcat;
    4. Shut down any existing Oracle Server instances in the ORACLE_HOME to be patched with normal or immediate priority. i.e.: Shutdown all instances (cleanly). Stop the database services, and stop all listener, agent and other Oracle processes running in or against the ORACLE_HOME to be installed into.
    5. Perform the following pre-install steps for Real Application Clusters (RAC) enviroments only:
    IN ADDITION TO STOPPING ALL ORACLE SERVICES IN THE ORACLE_HOME TO BE UPGRADED:
    If you are running in a RAC enviroment, stop the following Windows service(s)/devices(s) using the Net Stop command:
    Stop the Windows service named "OracleGSDService"
    Stop the Windows service named "OracleCMService9i".
    Stop the Windows device named "OraFenceService" (This Device does NOT show up as a Service in the Control Panel).
    For Example:
    C:\>net stop OracleGSDService
    C:\>net stop OracleCMService9i
    C:\>net stop OraFenceService
    Once the above steps have been performed on all the nodes of the cluster, you should then be able to upgrade the OSD components to the 9.2.0.3 versions. This can be accomplished by...
    xcopy all the files in the \Disk1\preinstall_rac\osd\*.* directory to the directory in which the OSD components were originally installed on all nodes(typically %SystemRoot%\system32\osd9i).
    Note: You may also be able to look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle\OSD9i registry key to determine the directory in which the original OSD components were installed. Now the OSD components can be restarted on all the nodes in the cluster.
    C:\>net start OraFenceService
    C:\>net start OracleCMService9i
    C:\>net start OracleGSDService
    After all of the above steps have been completed on all the nodes of the cluster, you are now ready to proceed with the Oracle 9.2.0.3.0 patchset installation.
    6. Start the installer:
    If the current Installer version is less than 2.2.0.18.0 then download the Installer 2.2.0.18.0 from Oracle Metalink where it can be accessed with the bug number 2878462 and choosing the MS Windows NT/2000 Server platform, then run the setup.exe 2.2.0.18.0 from the C:\Program Files\Oracle\oui\install directory .
    7. You may install the Patch Set through either an interactive or a silent installation.
    To perform an interactive installation using the Oracle Universal Installer graphical interface:
    1. Start the installer from the newly installed OUI 2.2.0.18.0 by running the version of setup.exe located at C:\Program Files\Oracle\oui\install and verify
    that the version of the OUI GUI is 2.2.0.18.0 before proceeding.
    2. Follow the steps given below within the installer:
    1. On the Welcome screen, click the Next button. This will display the File Locations screen.
    2. Click the Browse button for the Source... entry field and navigate to the stage directory where you unpacked
    the Patch Set tar file.
    3. Select the products.jar file. Click the Next button
    The products file will be read and the installer will load the product definitions.
    The products to be loaded will be displayed (verify ORACLE_HOME setting for this first).
    4. Verify the products listed and then click on the Install button.
    5. Once the installation has completed successfully, it will display End of Installation. Click on Exit and confirm
    to exit the installer.
    To perform a silent installation requiring no user intervention:
    1. Copy the response file template provided in the response directory where you unpacked the Patch
    Set tar file.
    2. Edit the values for all fields labeled as "<Value Required>" according to the comments and examples
    in the template.
    3. From the unzipped patchset installation area, start the installer by running the setup executable passing
    as the last argument the full path of the response file template you have edited locally with your own
    value of ORACLE_HOME and FROM_LOCATION:
    setup.exe -silent -responseFile <full_path_to_your_response_file>
    Post Install Actions
    Execute these "Post Install Actions" only if you have one or more databases associated to the upgraded $ORACLE_HOME.
    Important Notes
    1: Java VM and XML DB Requirements
    Users who have JVM (Java enabled) or JVM and XDB installed on their 9.2.0.1 databases should make sure that the init.ora parameters shared_pool_size and java_pool_size are each 150 MB or more before running the catpatch.sql upgrade script. Failure to do so could result in an unrecoverable memory failure during running of the script. Please note that JVM and XML DB was shipped as part of the default 9.2.0.1 seed database and will be present unless the user explicitly installed a 9.2.0.1 instance without them.
    2: SYSTEM table space
    If you have JServer installed in the database, you should check to be sure there is at least 10M of free space in the SYSTEM table space before running these actions.
    3: Installing on Cluster Databases
    If you are applying this patch set to a cluster database, then set the CLUSTER_DATABASE initialization parameter to false. After the post-install actions are completed, you must set this initialization parameter back to true.
    To complete the installation of this patch set, you need to start up each database associated with the upgraded $ORACLE_HOME, start the database listener (e.g., lsnrctl start), login using SQL*Plus (e.g., sqlplus "/ as sysdba"), and run the following commands/scripts in order from $ORACLE_HOME within a MIGRATE session. If you are using the OLAP option, make sure that the database listener is up.
    startup migrate
    spool patch.log
    @rdbms/admin/catpatch.sql
    spool off
    Review the patch.log file for errors and re-run the catpatch script after correcting any problems
    shutdown
    startup
    This step is optional - it will recompile all invalid PL/SQL packages now rather than when accessed for the first time - you can also use utlrcmp.sql to parallelize this in multiprocessor machines:
    @rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
    Execute the following if you use Oracle OLAP option:
    alter user olapsys identified by <password> account unlock
    connect olapsys/<password>
    @cwmlite/admin/cwm2awmd.sql
    exit
    Execute the following script only if you have version 9.2.0.1.0 of Oracle Internet Directory installed in your ORACLE_HOME. Make sure that the database and database listener are running and that all parameters are specified prior to running the script:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oidpatchca.bat
    -connect <Connect String>
    -lsnrport <Listener Port>
    -systempwd <SYSTEM Password>
    -odspwd <ODS Password>
    -sudn <Super-User DN>
    -supwd <Super-User Password>
    -dippwd <Password to register DIP Server>
    Where:
    connect - Database connect string
    lsnrport - Database Listener port
    systempwd - Password of the database 'SYSTEM' user
    odspwd - Password of the database 'ODS' user
    sudn - Super-user DN
    supwd - Super-user Password
    dippwd - New password to register Directory Integration Server. This password must conform to the password policy in the OID server
    Execute the following steps only is you are using the RMAN catalog.:
    rman catalog <user/passwd@alias>
    upgrade catalog;
    upgrade catalog;

    I don't understand which instructions I have to make for oracle upgrade?
    -- You have to follow all the instructions mentioned
    (Just check for few if's for Cluster enabled, OID and OLAP databases. Perform these steps only if they apply)
    Must I also make the 3. instruction? Connect to databse prior and drop?
    -- Yes you should do
    Must I also make the post install action for my database?
    (startup migrate ...)
    -- Yes. Do run catpatch.sql .
    what means at post install actions the following:
    'execute these post install actions only if you have one or more databases associated to the upgraded $oracle_homee.
    -- In this step make sure you do step 1
    1: Java VM and XML DB Requirements
    Otherwise catpatch.sql will fail.
    Do 2 and 3 only if applicable

    My database path is e:\oracle\oradata\database my oracle path is e:\oracle\ora92 have I in my case make the post install actions?

  • Oracle Installation or Uninstallation Solutions For Windows 95/98/2000/ME/NT/XP

    You must read carefully the following steps here. If you previously installed any Oracle's products on your machine, I strongly recommend you to clean up thoroughly before install the new products.
    ================================================================
    Uninstallation
    The easiest way to remove ALL traces of Oracle software, for an 8i installation, is:
    (1) Using regedit, remove the key \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\ORACLE.
    (2) Remove all the Oracle services (usually called Ora-something) from \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services.
    (3) Go to the ORACLE_HOME directory (usually C:\Oracle\Ora81). Go to the BIN directory beneath this. Rename the file OCIW32.DLL to something like OCIW32.OLD.
    (4) Reboot your box.
    (5) Once you have logged on again, delete the directories C:\Program Files\Oracle and C:\Oracle.
    (6) Right-click on My Computer, select Properties->Environment. Edit the environmental variable PATH to remove all refernces to files in the two directories you have just deleted.
    (7) Remove the Oracle folders from your Start menu.
    *** Obviously, using regedit on your machine always entails risks, and I won't be held responsible if you end up trashing your system. However, the above procedure is one I have used many times with complete success. You have been warned! ;) ***
    As to logging on, the "standard" Oracle accounts are:
    SYS/change_on_install (SYSDBA - database owner)
    SYSTEM/manager (Owns various VIEWs and utility PACKAGEs)
    and (optionally):
    SCOTT/tiger (Training account containing some sample tables)
    If you're using PO8i on the local machine, you shouldn't need to worry about setting up NET*8 (Oracle's networking protocols)
    =================================================================
    Windows 95 and 98
    This will remove all Oracle products, Oracle services, and Oracle registry entries from your computer.
    Complete the following steps to create a Clean Machine. Backup any relevant databases before proceeding!
    On Windows 95 and Windows 98:
    1. Ensure you shutdown your Oracle. Right click on the Oracle Icon in the toolbar and click on the shutdown option.
    2. Un-install all your Oracle products if possible. Use universal installer to do that. Ignore this step if you dont have universal installer on your machine.
    3. In regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE.
    4. Delete the ORACLE key.
    5. Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and remove your %ORACLE_HOME%\bin and JRE paths from the path setting.
    6. From the Windows Explorer (or from the command prompt), delete the Oracle directory (Oracle Base).
    7. Delete <system_drive>:\Program Files\Oracle (from the Windows NT Explorer or from the command prompt).
    8. Delete Icons from <system_drive>: \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle - <HOME> and <system_drive>:\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Oracle Installation Products. Where <HOME> is the previous HOME name.
    9. Reboot your computer.
    On Windows NT:
    1. Ensure you are logged in as a user with Administrator privileges.
    2. Stop all Oracle Services through Control Panel Services. Use universal installer to un-install your Oracle products. Ignore un-install if you dont have universal installer on your machine.
    3. Using regedit (at the command prompt, type regedit), go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE and delete the ORACLE key.
    4. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services, and remove all keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services that begin with ORACLE.
    5. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application, and remove all keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application that begin with ORACLE.
    6. Close regedit.
    7. From the Control Panel, open System.
    8. If JRE was installed by Oracle, remove the %ORACLE_HOME%\BIN path and the JRE path. For example, you may see a path similar to this one: C:\ORACLE\ORAxx\BIN;G: \Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\bin. Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Environment tab. Click on the system variable path and modify the path.
    9. Delete Icons from <system_drive>:\Winnt\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle - <HOME> and <system_drive>:\Winnt\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle Installation Products. Where <HOME> is the previous HOME name.
    10. Delete <system_drive>:\Program Files\Oracle (from the Windows NT Explorer or from the command prompt).
    11. Reboot your computer.
    12. Delete all ORACLE_BASE directories (You can find the Oracle homes listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\ORACLE_HOMES).

    of the Symmantec
    JIT or earlier will encounter the failure:
    Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for JDK
    1.2.
    Details regarding this issue can be found at:
    http://developer.intel.com/design/processor/future/manuals/knowni ssue.htm
    How to determine if you have Symmantec Java for JDK 1.2:
    1. Select the file "symcjit.dll" and right click on it.
    2. Select Properties, then the Version tab.
    3. Under Microsoft Windows*, the properties of the DLL are:
    "Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for
    JDK 1.2 Copyright (C)
    1996-99 Symantec Corporation Dynamic Link Library file".
    DLLs older than this will also not work. "
    Likelihood of Occurrence
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
    Sun JRE
    and Symmantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT,
    Windows 2000 and NetWare platforms are confirmed to be
    affected.
    Possible Symptoms
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The failure typically is that the affected application simply
    terminates.
    Workaround
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Not only will OUI be affected by this bug, most of the
    post-install
    configuration tools will also be affected. Running these
    tools with "-nojit"
    specified will avoid the hang, but it is not simple to specify
    "-nojit" for
    some of the products.
    The following workaround works for the Windows operating
    system:
    a. Copy only the install directory from the CD to the hard
    disk ,say, e:\temp.
    b. Open oraparam.ini and make the following modifications
    (Assuming CD
    drive is f:)
    * Change the "SOURCE=" line to use the full path to the CD
    instead of a
    relative path. (i.e., SOURCE=f:\stage\products.jar)
    * Change the "JRE_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the
    CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.,
    JRE_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\jre\1.1.7\1\DataFiles
    \Expanded)
    * Change the "OUI_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the
    CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.,
    OUI_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\oui\1.6.0.9.0\1\DataF
    iles\Expanded
    * Change the "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line to add "-nojit" as the
    first argument.
    (i.e., JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m)
    ^^^^^^
    * Other entries should remain the same
    c. Launch setup.exe from the temporary location on your hard
    drive (i.e.
    e:\temp\install\win32\setup.exe). This will use the
    modified
    oraparam.ini and pick up the information from the CD since
    the absolute
    locations are specified.
    Choose a Custom install and choose not to create a database
    during the
    install. This way, the Database Configuration Assistant will
    not be launched
    during installation.
    The Net8 Configuration Assistant will still be launched, and
    there is no way
    to suppress it. You will need to kill the Net8 Configuration
    Assistant if it
    hangs due to the bug. The installation still will have been
    successful, and
    you can run the DBCA and NetCA after installation.
    To kill NetCA if it hangs during installation:
    In the "Configuration Tools" window, highlight the "Net8
    Configuration
    Assistant" and click "Stop". If that does not work, look for
    the most recent
    JRE process using the Task Manager, and kill it manually.
    NOTE: the OUI
    itself will also have a jre process. Be sure to kill the one
    with the most
    recent date, which should be the jre process being used for
    Net8CA, not the
    one for OUI itself.
    After killing the configuration tools and continuing through
    the installation
    to the "End of Installation" screen, you should modify the
    configuration tools
    to use "-nojit", then call the appropriate tools from the
    Start Menu.
    Once installation is complete, each of the following files in
    the ORACLE_HOME
    needs to be modified:
    assistants\dbca\dbassist.cl
    assistants\dbma\dbmig.cl
    assistants\ifa\ifa.cl
    bin\elogin.cl
    bin\owm.cl
    ldap\oidamdin\oidadmin.cl
    network\tools\netasst.cl
    network\tools\netca.cl
    owm\install\instelogin.cl
    owm\install\instowm.cl
    Edit the contents of the above files to add "-nojit" as shown
    below:
    Command=("C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\BIN\JREW" -nojit
    -classpath ....
    this is the only thing you need to add --> ^^^^^^
    Then, launch the necessary tools, like Net8CA and DBCA from
    the Start Menu.
    Patches
    ~~~~~~~
    Currently there is not a patched installer available to deal
    with this
    problem, the workaround listed above must be used.

    The solution of making a local copy of the installation CD on
    the hard disk and renameing symcjit.dll to symcjit.old does
    work to allow installation of Oracle Client 8.1.7 on a Pentium 4
    This function is useful and you can find two file to rename

    Windows ME
    Solution to the installation of Oraclei8.1.7 PE in Windows Millennium
    Oracle does not support installing version 8.1.7 PE into
    Windows Millennium.
    As an unsupported workaround, you may add the following line
    to the [compatibility95] section of win.ini prior to
    installation:
    Jrew=0x00080000
    After setup is complete, Oracle will recommend a reboot.
    There is one additional step necessary prior to reboot;
    Oracle may add a non-standard path statement to the
    autoexec.bat file. Please modify this SET PATH
    statement to use short-filenames if you find a quoted
    LFN string represented as part of the path. You can
    confirm that the path was merged successfully into the
    registry after reboot by examining the PATH variable
    in the registry at
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Environment
    Symptoms of a missing Oracle path statement in the registry are that Net8 Easy Config will not launch.
    Please note that Oracle does not support the use of this
    product in Windows ME, but have authorized these workarounds
    for testing purposes only.

    Windows XP Home Edition
    Oracle 8i is not certified on windows XP. Even if yes, it must be Windows XP Professional.
    You can install Oracle8i on windows XP Home Edition, try like this:
    1 - Copy your Oracle CD into hard disk in your
    machine. For example Copy from oracle8i CD into C:\Oracle\ ...
    2 - Search the two files named Symcjit.dll on the D drive (where you have copied Oracle8i. You can found them in (example):
    C:\Oracle\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1
    \DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll
    3 - Rename this file (Example): symcjit_back.dll (make sure to find two files and rename them)
    4 - Execute the Oracle setup.exe from C:\Oracle\setup.exe
    ===============================================================
    When Oracle 8i dies on the install or the installer hangs, here is the fix for this, make sure that you have Service Pack 2 installed.
    1. \JRE\1.3.1\ From Sun. (You can download java program at http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/jre/download-jre-windows.html)
    2. Install the java file.
    There is also a problem in the installation disk.
    3. Make a copy of the Oracle 8i disk on the local hard disk.
    4. Do a search for the two files called symcjit.dll and rename them for example: symcjit.old.
    5. Install Oracle from the win32 directory.

    Hi,Beau Leo, I am having problem installing Oracle9i Database Rel.2 on my pc.
    I read the suggestion and solution you posted for fixing Oracle 8.1.x installation
    probblem, and since my pc also hung at 48% while installing Oracle 9i software,
    I wonder if the same problem in the Oracle8 Vs.Pentium4 also exists for Oracle9i.
    I have Windows2000,256RAM, Pentium3 1Ghz, and 13.8 free diskspace. But the installation always
    hangs at 48%, my computer will just shut down and restart automatically without
    even showing an error message. I have tried installing the Enterprise edition for 3
    times already but everytime encountered the same problem. I've also tried custom installation
    by selecting not to create database, but it also hung.
    Before I started each installation, I always made sure that my registry and environment
    path are cleared and that all the partially-installed Oracle files are deleted.
    I hope that you or anyone who has a solution for this problem could be so kindly to help me out.
    Thank you in advance.

    Ther is compatibility problem that happend with broken binaries
    errno shouldn't show up with binary or library compiled against glibc 2.1+
    You can use LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 (or 2.2.5) in the broken apps env
    to work around this.

    LINUX: Quick Start Guide - 9.2.0 RDBMS Installation
    Quick Start Guide Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0) RDBMS Installation Linux Operating System PURPOSE ======= This document is designed to be a quick reference that can be used when installing Oracle 9.2.0 on the Linux platform. It is NOT designed to take the place of the Installation Guide. It is recommended that users READ the installation guide. Instructions to locate that document are contained in Appendix A. A familiarity with the Linux Operating System is assumed. If Installation guide information is needed, please see the Appendix A at the bottom of this document for additional resources. Each step should be done in the order that it is listed. These steps are the bare minimum that is necessary for a typical install of the Oracle9i RDBMS. Verification of Version Certification: ====================================== Currently, Oracle 9.2.0 is certified ONLY on the following Intel Based Server Linux distributions: - Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 - Suse SLES7, SLES8 - United Linux 1.0 For the latest certification and other related information, use the "Certify & Availability" link in Metalink. Installations on distributions and versions not listed in the Certify link is not supported. Pre-requisite Requirements for System Administrator: ==================================================== The following steps are required to verify your operating system meets minimum requirements for installation, and should be performed by the root user. For assistance with system administration issues, please contact your system administrator or operating system vendor. Use these steps to manually check the operating system requirements before attempting to install Oracle RDBMS software, or you may choose to use the convenient "Unix InstallPrep script" which automates these checks for you. For more information about the script, including download information, please review the following article: Note:189256.1 UNIX: Script to Verify Installation Requirements for Oracle 9.x version of RDBMS Users must have /bin/utils installed for the operating system. This is part of the developers option on RedHat Advanced Server 2.1. The Following Steps Need to be Performed by the Root User: 1. Configure System Resources: Ensure that the system has at least the following resources: ? 400 MB in /tmp * ? 512 MB of Physical Memory (RAM) ? Three times the amount of Physical Memory for Swap space (unless the system exceeds 1 GB of Physical Memory, where two times the amount of Physical Memory for Swap space is sufficient) * You may also redirect /tmp by setting the TEMP environment variable. This is only recommended in rare circumstances where /tmp cannot be expanded to meet free space requirements. 2. Create a Software Owner and Group: Create a Unix user and group that will own the Oracle software. (Typically user = oracle, group = dba) You may use a GUI tool for this if your distirbution provides one, or the 'useradd' and 'groupadd' command line utilities. Please make sure the user and group you use are defined in the local /etc/passwd and /etc/group files rather than resolved via a network service such as NIS. 3. Create a Software Mount Point and DataFile Mount Points: Create a mount point for the Oracle software installation (at least 2.5 GB, typically /u01) Create a second, third and fourth mount point for the database files, control files, and log files to be created (typically /u02, /u03, /u04). ? The oracle user should own these mount points and all of the directories below the mount point. 4. Test the Permissions: Ensure that the oracle user can write to the new mount points ? As a test, change directories to each of the new mount point directories as the oracle user and create a file or directory. Example: % touch /u01/test 5. Configure Kernel Resources: The following kernel parameters related to shared memory and semaphores will require tuning:      SHMMAX = 2147483648      SHMMIN = 1      SHMMNI = 100      SEMMNS = 1000      SEMMSL = 250      SEMMNI = 100      SEMOPM = 100 6.On Linux kernel parameters can be set dynamically or can be written in a shell script to be set at boot time. Kernel parameters should be set as the root user. They are set as follows 1.     cd /proc/sys/kernel 2.     Modify the parameter values by using the following command syntax: a.     # echo 100 32000 100 100 > sem           This sets SEMMSL, SEMMNS, SEMOPM, SEMMNI b.     # echo 2147483648 > shmmax c.     # echo 1 > shmmin d.     # echo 100 > shmmni ================================================================================ These changes are NOT persistent and must be re-set after each re-boot. On RedHat Advanced Server 2.1, these parameters can be entered into the file /etc/sysctl.conf. This parameters in this file are set each time the system is booted. Example:      $ more /etc/sysctl.conf      # Disables packet forwarding      net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0      # Enables source route verification      net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter = 1      # Disables the magic-sysrq key      kernel.sysrq = 0      kernel.shmmax=256000000      kernel.shmmin=1      kernel.shmmni=100      kernel.sem= 250 32000 32 128 7. Mount CD-ROM: Depending on your Linux distribution the cdrom device is typically either "/cdrom" or "/mnt/cdrom". Please substitute the appropriate value when "<cdrom>" appears in the examples. # mount <cdrom> Installs can be done from either the CD or by copying the contents of each CD?s to a stage area on the local disk (/stage/Disk1, /stage/Disk2, /stage/DiskN) 8.This is required to run as root: /tmp/orainstRoot.sh First question of oracle installation. If no other versions of Oracle 8i or 9i have been installed before. You will be ask to run /tmp/orainstRoot.sh to create the oraInventory location pointer. Usually found in /etc on Linux Files that are located in /etc are /etc/oratab and /etc/oraInst.loc Installation Steps for the Oracle User ======================================= The Following Steps need to be performed by the Oracle User: This can be done from either a Telnet or an SSH connection. It is NOT recommended to perform installations from a su ? oracle connection. 1. Set Environment Variables Environment variables should be set in the login script for the oracle user. If the oracle user's default shell is the C-shell (/usr/bin/csh), then the login script will be named ".login". If the oracle user's default shell is the Bourne-shell (/usr/bin/bsh) or the Korn-shell (/usr/bin/sh or /usr/bin/ksh), then the login script will be named ".profile". In either case, the login script will be located in the oracle user's home directory ($HOME). The examples below assume that your software mount point is /u01. Parameter Value ----------- ------ ORACLE_HOME /u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0 ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle PATH /u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin: /usr/ccs/bin:/usr/bin/X11/:/usr/local/bin and any other items you require in                     your PATH      ORA_NLS33          $ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data ORACLE_SID Set this to what you will call your database instance. (4 - 8 characters in length)      If you are not on the console, you may need to set the following DISPLAY <ip-address>:0.0 (review Note:153960.1 for detailed information) ENSURE THAT CLASS_PATH IS NOT SET IN THE ENVIRONMENT 2. Set the umask: Set the oracle user's umask to "022" in you ".profile" or ".login" file. Example: umask 022 3. Verify the Environment Log off and log on as the oracle user to ensure all environment variables are set correctly. Use the following command to view them: % env | more Before attempting to run the Oracle Universal Installer, verify that you can successfully run the following command: % /usr/bin/X11/xclock If this does not display a clock on your display screen, please review the following article: Note:153960.1 FAQ: X Server testing and troubleshooting 4. Start the Oracle Universal Installer and install the RDBMS software: Use the following commands to start the installer: % cd /tmp % /cdrom/runInstaller Or cd to /stage/Disk1 and run ./runInstaller Respond to the installer prompts as shown below: ? When prompted for whether orainstRoot.sh has been run by root, enter "y". This should have been done in Pre-Installation step 8 above. ? At the "Welcome Screen", click Next. ? If prompted, enter the directory to use for the "Inventory Location". This can be any directory, but is usually not under ORACLE_HOME because the oraInventory is shared with all Oracle products on the system. ? If prompted, enter the "UNIX Group Name" for the oracle user (dba). ? At the "File Locations Screen", verify the Destination listed is your ORACLE_HOME directory. Also enter a NAME to identify this ORACLE_HOME. The NAME can be anything, but is typically "DataServer" and the first three digits of the version. For example: "DataServer920" ? At the "Available Products Screen", choose Oracle9i Database, then click Next. ? At the "Installation Types Screen", choose Enterprise Edition, then click Next. ? If prompted, click Next at the "Component Locations Screen" to accept the default directories. ? At the "Database Configuration Screen", choose the the configuration based on how you plan to use the database, then click Next. ? If prompted, click Next at the "Privileged Operating System Groups Screen" to accept the default values (your current OS primary group). ? If prompted, enter the Global Database Name in the format "ORACLE_SID.hostname" at the "Database Identification Screen". For example: "TEST.LNXhost". The SID entry should be filled in with the value of ORACLE_SID. Click Next. ? If prompted, enter the directory where you would like to put datafiles at the "Database File Location Screen". Click Next. ? If prompted, select "Use the default character set" (WE8ISO8859P1) at the "Database Character Set Screen". Click Next. ? At the "Summary Screen", review your choices, then click Install. The install will begin. Follow instructions regarding running "root.sh" and any other prompts. When completed, the install will have created a default database, configured a Listener, and started both for you. • Oracle 8.1.7 on Debian 2.2 (potato)

    Hello (again),
    I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on Debian 2.2r2 (kernel 2.2.19 and glibc 2.1.3) but runInstaller dies with SIGSEGV. On the same machine I have already successfully installed Oracle 8.1.6.
    I installed Blackdown JDK 1.1.8 but it does not seems to make any diference. No matter what JDK I install and put in my PATH the runInstaller dies with SIGSEGV.
    Also tried to "unset LANG", no goog either. LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5, also does not work.
    Anyone knows how I can install Oracle 8.1.7 on Debian 2.2r2?

  • Can't install Oracle 9i on RHEL4

    Hello,
    I'm trying to install oracle 9.2.0.4 on a Linux Red Hat 4 server (32 bits), which already hosts Oracle 10g.
    runInstaller displays errors during the linking phase :
    "Error in invoking target ctx_on of makefile $ORACLE_HOME/rdmbs/lib/ins_rdbms.mk"
    "Error in invoking target sdo_on of makefile $ORACLE_HOME/rdmbs/lib/ins_rdbms.mk"
    I've tried to follow all recommandations on this website : http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml
    and I tried the following tricks to solve the problem :
    Edit the file $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/env_ctx.mk, go to "INSO_LINK =", and add a "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" to the line and save it.
    Here is the full line with the added "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" flag:
    INSO_LINK = -L$(CTXLIB) $(LDLIBFLAG)m $(LDLIBFLAG)dl $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ca $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fa $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ex $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_da $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ut $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ch $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fi $(LLIBCTXHX) $(LDLIBFLAG)c -Wl,-rpath,$(CTXHOME)lib $(CORELIBS) $(COMPEOBJS)
    After that hit retry in the error popup.
    -> didn't work
    If this didn't work, then try the following:
    Edit the file $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/env_ctx.mk again, go to "INSO_LINK =", remove the above entry you made and add a "`cat $(LIBHOME)/sysliblist`" to the line and save it.
    Here is the full line with the added "`cat $(LIBHOME)/sysliblist`" string:
    INSO_LINK = -L$(CTXLIB) $(LDLIBFLAG)m `cat $(LIBHOME)/sysliblist` $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ca $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fa $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ex $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_da $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ut $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ch $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fi $(LLIBCTXHX) $(LDLIBFLAG)c -Wl,-rpath,$(CTXHOME)lib $(CORELIBS) $(COMPEOBJS)
    After that hit retry in the error popup.
    -> didn't work
    Edit the file $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh and change the following line:
    LD_SELF_CONTAINED="-z defs"
    to read:
    LD_SELF_CONTAINED=""
    After that run the script $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh as the user "oracle"
    I got this :
    ./genclntsh
    Created /oracle/product/9.2/lib/libclntst9.a
    but runInstaller is still stuck
    In the make.log, I get this message :
    /usr/bin/make -f ins_rdbms.mk ctx_on ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/9.2
    make: *** no rule to make target /oracle/product/9.2/rdbms/lib/kciwcx.o, needed by ctx_on. Stop
    I don't know what else to do.
    Can anybody plesae help ?
    thank you
    Antoine

    1- startup type- Auto
    2- Group to user- ORA_DBA
    3 - you can check log on tab in the service properties and set the username and password who responsible about this services
    As i already stated 3 works. but i want it to work under Local System and not under any user.
    Thanks

  • Oracle Service does not start after installation of Domain role

    Hi all,
    here is my setting:
    Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit
    ORACLE ONE 11g
    I installed the database and it was working fine until I installed the domain controller role on this server.
    Finally I needed to uninstall this role again and restarted the server several times during this process.
    Now I can not access the database anymore. Listener starts, then stops.
    database service stops with Windows Service Error "Could not start in a timely fashion..." (but quite immediately after starting)
    Checking the database installation, I could not find the ORACLE HOME path in the env variables anymore, also not a trace of other ORACLE paths there.
    This database is REALLY important to me, so if you have an idea how to restore the original state, I would be glad.
    And NO , I haven´t made a backup, since it was more or less 1 day between db setup and domain role setup...
    Thanks in advance...

    And No, you shouldn't have installed Oracle on a Domain Controller in the first place, as the activity of a Domain Controller will impair the database performance heavily.
    So the best solution is CTRL-ALT-DEL and start all over again.
    If the database is that important for you, why didn't you install it on a real OS, and why for heaven's sake did you promote the database server to a domain controller?

  • Not able to connect Oracle DBXE from sql*plus client

    Hi,
    I have installed Oracle 10gXE from oracle site. i have updated the tnsnames.ora also
    but when i try to connect the db through sql*plus client, i am redirected to .net debugger.
    Pls help me in this,
    Thanks in advance.
    -- Raja

    Hello,
    Can you clarify what you are trying to connect from? If it's B1 ( one ) then post to the [B1 forum|http://forums.sdn.sap.com/index.jspa#44].
    Otherwise need more info on the product you are using?
    Typically the Oracle Path must be in the PATH statement as well it requires the correct platform ( 32 or 64 ) bit client installed.
    Most BOE/CR products are 32 bit so you need to install the 32 bit client.

  • Installing Oracle Personal edition

    Hi,
    I am Ritesh Kothari.Currently doing my MS in computer science from Ohio University. I want to install Oracle Personal Edition on my Win98 machine. Currently I have 1 GB of hard disk free.I have downloaded the Oracle9i Personal Edition Release 9.0.1.1.0 for Microsoft Windows 98
    The file: A91514-01.zip.
    But when I click on setup.exe then nothing happens. I didnt understand what is the problem? Plz help me.
    Ritesh

    Try this:
    Just found this on the be.comp forum: Will try it tonight.
    Oracle 8.1.5 Personal Edition
    Oracle does not support installing version 8.1.5 PE into
    Windows Millennium.
    As an unsupported workaround, you may add the following line
    to the [compatibility95] section of win.ini prior to
    installation:
    Jrew=0x00080000
    After setup is complete, Oracle will recommend a reboot.
    There is one additional step necessary prior to reboot;
