Oracle's Support to reduce Negotiation lead time
Hi Everybody,
How we can use oracle apps to reduce lead time during bid to PO cycle.
Are there any oracle apps features/best practises which can help reducing lead time.
You can use Oracle Sourcing Module for bid process.
Thanks

Oracle 10g: How to reduce the select * time
Hello,
We have 10 million entries in our database (Oracle 10g in windows 32 bit machine.)
The execution of 'select * ....' takes 3 to 4 hour. Is there any way to reduce this time.
Is any tool available which can read the oracle export data and produce the output in text file format.
or any idea ?
Thanks

Hello EdStevens
Is that 3 to 4 hours scrolling data past your screen?Answer: The Oracle is taking 3-4 hr to produce the output.
OK, let me try again. Where is the output being directed? To the screen? To a file?
The reason I ask is that often people will say "It takes n minutes to run this query" when in fact Oracle is producing the result set in a few seconds and what is taking n minutes is to run the results past the screen.
You should take a statspack report while the query is running and see where it is spending its time.
>
That's a different problem. I assume by "export data" you mean a .dmp file created by exp or expdp? If so what do you hope to achieve by outputting it in text format? What is the business problem to be solved?Answer: Since customer want to read all 10 milion entries. so we are think if we can dump (Oracle export) the data and using some tool (not Oracle) to read the data so there is no wait for the customer. As stated, a dmp file is oracle proprietary binary file that exists solely to transport data across platforms/versions. It is not suitable for your purpose. You are far better off finding where the current query is spending its time than looking for some kludge. 10 million rows of data is still 10 million rows of data. Do you think extracting it from the db, storeing it in some other format, and having some other tool read it off of disk in that format is going to be faster than simply selecting it from the db -- asking the db to do what it was designed to do?

Is Oracle MRP efficient enough to reduce Inventory?Role of Lead time setups
Gurus,
I started understanding MRP these have the following questions, appreciate your inputs on below items
1)Does Item Lead time setups play a role in MRP?If Lead time setup is blank for all items,,does MRP work efficiently?
2)We just use MRP..not using any other inv rep. techniques like Min - Max etc.Our inventory is 3/4 times more than our monthsly revenues?exmaple our one month shipments are like 1 Mil.our inventory is like 4 Mil..Is it ok?how to reduce inventory?
3)how to improve our planning?
we are on 11i and discrete mfg.
thank you.1)Does Item Lead time setups play a role in MRP?If Lead time setup is blank for all items,,does MRP work efficiently?
Lead times do play an important role in MRP. If lead times are blank, MRP will assume that all items can be procured / made in no time at all. The recommendations you get in MRP will be based on this incorrect assumption.
Some companies have 52 inventory turns a year; some companies have 2. You are somewhere in between. There is no way for us to tell if you have too much inventory or too little. It highly depends on the industry you are in and on your business model. The best way is to compare yourself with other companies in the same market segment.
Inventory reduction is an art; not science. You can start looking at your excess and obsolete inventory and identifying patterns that lead to perceived excess. You can start looking at procurement practices. You can start analyzing MRP recommendations and acting upon them as required.
3)how to improve our planning?
You need to define what you mean by "improve". Oracle MRP is but a tool to improve planning. You need to implement a proper S&OP process to improve the planning component. You need to have a good review of your processes to "improve planning".
Sorry this is nebulous and may not help, but your question is quite generic.

How to store lead-time and price per MPN for a single Item
We are probably one of the only CEM's that use Oracle Applications in a one-to-one MPN-IPN (Oracle Item Part Number) relationship. We do not currently store multiple Manufacturers under a single Item. Rather, we use the Customer Item Cross Reference to rank the customer's AML, with each IPN tied to a single MPN.
We are looking at moving into a one-to-many "world" in Oracle but are not sure how we can handle different pricing, lead-time, preference, status (prototype, production, obsolete, do not use), etc. for each Manufacturer's Part Number under a single Item. How are other CM's handling this???Hi Greg,
Unfortunately, DIAdem Datafinder doesn't really support much in the way
of Date/Time search outside of the File Level Creation Date property.
In order to make the creation time of the Channels searchable you would
want to create some custom properties (or use the existing RegisterInt1
- RegisterInt6) to define your own searchable properties.
For example, since you know that you have one TDM file per day, you can
start your search by find the desired day on the File Property Level,
searching the "Creation Date" property. When you store your TDM
properties, you could store the hour creation as an integer (and
thereby searchable) in one of the RegisterInt properties of the
channel, or create your own custom "Hour" channel. You could similarly
save the minute and second property in their own custom properties.
Then, since you're saving integer values, you can then search those
values to determine the time that the channel was created.
I realize that this isn't ideal or elegant, as in total it requires 4
searches (date, hour, minute, second). But that is the most
straightforward way of searching your channels by creation date/time.
Hope this helps Greg, let me know if you have any other questions.

Sales order is not taking shipping transit lead time into consideration
Hi,
We have following scenario -
1. Sales order is created in AT organization.
2. There is no onhand in any of the organizations including AT.
3. The scheduled ship date for sales order comes as order creation date + item lead time = 15-Sep-2011.
3. PO for sufficient quantity is available at UK org with need-by date as 01-Jun-2011.
5. Post processing item lead time for this item is 1 day.
4. intransit shipment is setup between UK and AT.
5. Shipment Transit lead times are also set up at 3 days between locations of UK and AT.
6. ASCP plan is run.
7. Sales Order is unscheduled and rescheduled via API MSC_ATP_PUB, which takes the ATP details from UK (based on the sourcing rules). The sheduled ship date comes as 02-Jun-2011 (PO need-by date + 1 day of post processing).
8. Expectation is that API should also take transit lead time into consideration while calculating the ATP dates and hence the Expectation is that scheduled ship date should come as 05-Jun-2011 (PO need-by date + Transit lead time + 1 day of post processing).
Please let me know
a. if this is standard functionality of oracle or not.
b. if this is standard functionality then what setups are missing required for the same to be achieved.
UAT is held up for this issue. Please help urgently.
Regards.Oracle is supposed to take the in-transit time into consideration.
Are you running a constrained plan or an unconstrained one?
Make sure you defined the inter-org network as described in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A60725_05/html/comnls/us/inv/shipne01.htm.
or go to Inventory > Setup > Organization > Inter-Location Transit Times and enter it there.

I'm trying to decide which application server/framework I can use for python development and for that, in my case, oracle's support is a must.
While analyzing I found out Django is trying to add Oracle as an option right now, using, of course the cx_Oracle module: http://code.djangoproject.com/wiki/OracleBranch.
That's good news. If anyone can comment their experience with Zope, Django, etc I'll appreciate it.
TIAWell, Django itself is great for development of `standard` applications. You create a model, enter 3 commands and then you have a working application with admin interface. Cool, but in my personal experience I've been hitting the wall pretty fast and the amount of time spent on decrypting automagical functionality of a framework is in direct proportion to time spent designing and implementing it ourselves. Problems like schema evolution still need to be resolved by hand.
My limited experience with Zope comes down to the fact that it is a bit like JBoss but focused more on the content management and portal solutions. Plone is a very interesting example of a widely used CMS running on top of Zope (plone.org and plone.net).
Some companies are using Java application servers together with Jython servlets. You can also now run ASP.NET written in IronPython (www.asp.net/ironpython). These two because out of all Web stacks these are the most mature and as we know Oracle's support of .NET and Java is outstanding.
If you are more into PHP or Perl, Python Server Pages from mod_python gives you capabilities similar to those offered by mod_php or mod_perl - but within Python. -
TO REDUCE THE EXECUTION TIME OF REPORT
HI,
CAN ANYONE TELL ME THAT, HOW CAN I REDUCE THE EXECUTION TIME OF THE REPORT. IS THERE ANY IDEA TO IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE REPORT.Hi Santosh,
Good check out the following documentation
<b>Performance tuning</b>
For all entries
Nested selects
Select using JOINS
Use the selection criteria

<b>Optimizing the load of the database</b>
For all entries
The for all entries creates a where clause, where all the entries in the driver table are combined with OR. If the number of entries in the driver table is larger than rsdb/max_blocking_factor, several similar SQL statements are executed to limit the length of the WHERE clause.
The plus
Large amount of data
Mixing processing and reading of data
Fast internal reprocessing of data
Fast
The Minus
Difficult to program/understand
Memory could be critical (use FREE or PACKAGE size)
Some steps that might make FOR ALL ENTRIES more efficient:
Removing duplicates from the the driver table
Sorting the driver table
If possible, convert the data in the driver table to ranges so a BETWEEN statement is used instead of and OR statement:
FOR ALL ENTRIES IN i_tab
WHERE mykey >= i_tab-low and
mykey <= i_tab-high.
Nested selects
The plus:
Small amount of data
Mixing processing and reading of data
Easy to code - and understand
The minus:
Large amount of data
when mixed processing isnt needed
Performance killer no. 1
Select using JOINS
The plus
Very large amount of data
Similar to Nested selects - when the accesses are planned by the programmer
In some cases the fastest
Not so memory critical
The minus
Very difficult to program/understand
Mixing processing and reading of data not possible
Use the selection criteria

Optimizing the load of the database
Using table buffering
Using buffered tables improves the performance considerably. Note that in some cases a stament can not be used with a buffered table, so when using these staments the buffer will be bypassed. These staments are:
Select DISTINCT
ORDER BY / GROUP BY / HAVING clause
Any WHERE clasuse that contains a subquery or IS NULL expression
JOIN s
A SELECT... FOR UPDATE
If you wnat to explicitly bypass the bufer, use the BYPASS BUFFER addition to the SELECR clause.
Use the ABAP SORT Clause Instead of ORDER BY
The ORDER BY clause is executed on the database server while the ABAP SORT statement is executed on the application server. The datbase server will usually be the bottleneck, so sometimes it is better to move thje sort from the datsbase server to the application server.
If you are not sorting by the primary key ( E.g. using the ORDER BY PRIMARY key statement) but are sorting by another key, it could be better to use the ABAP SORT stament to sort the data in an internal table. Note however that for very large result sets it might not be a feasible solution and you would want to let the datbase server sort it.
Avoid ther SELECT DISTINCT Statement
As with the ORDER BY clause it could be better to avoid using SELECT DISTINCT, if some of the fields are not part of an index. Instead use ABAP SORT + DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES on an internal table, to delete duplciate rows.
Good Luck and thanks

Difference between Req with insufficient lead time and lead time const
Hi ,
1) Can anyone explain the difference between Requirement with insufficient lead time and Requirement lead time constraint exception messages. Both seems to be similar for me with the compressed time. Also at what situations these exceptions are generated.
2) what is minimum lead time required ,actual lead time and its calculation.

Delivery lead time in Sales Order--URGENT
Hi SAP GURUS,
How the Delivery lead time works in Sales Order i.e
"From the time a confirmed Sales order is punched till the time we have delivered the material"
How to confgure to use effectivelyWhen you create sales order, system automatically proposes data based on configuration settings.
1. Check the schedule line proposed by system in sales order. Let's say CP. Go to transaction VOV6 and see if availability check is checked.
2. Check the requirement type proposed by system in sales order. Let's say 041. Go to transaction OVZH and see what requirement class has been assigned to it. Let' say 041.
3. Go to transaction OVZG and see if availability check has been checked for this requirement class 041.
4. Check the shipping point proposed by system in sales order.
Go to transaction OVLZ and check Loading time & pick pack time maintained there for this shipping point. If there is nothing let's say we have 24 hours and 24 hours respectively.
5. Check the route proposed by system in sales order. Let's say route selected is 000003. Go to transaction 0VTC and see Transit duration & Transportation lead times maintained there. Let's say timings maintained are 2 days and 1 days respectively.
Now let's say a customer calls and says he wants a material delivered on Apr 25. Now what the system does is that it does backward scheduling. i.e. it goes backward from delivery date i.e. 25th April. It reduces 3 days for transit time, reduces time taken for loading time, reduces days taken for arranging transport, reduces time taken for pick pack. After calculation it arrives at date Apr 21. Now it checks whether material is available on this date i.e. Apr 21.
If material is available, it confirms delivery date.
Otherwise, if material is not available on Apr 21, it determines date on which material is available. Let's say material is available on Apr 23. Now, system immediately carries out forward scheduling. So it starts calculating from Apr 23 and adds time and dates maintained for picking & packing; transportation lead time, loading time and transit time.
Also note that system takes into account factory holidays, factory timings when it is calculating above. If factory works 24 hours and is closed on Saturday & Sunday, system arrives at date Apr 30. It now confirms delivery date as Apr 30 to customer.
I have given a simple example. There are many other aspects you can configure on scheduling. -
Reducing your implementation time with Configuration Express Wizard
Dear B1 community,
recently a new tool has been published on the SDN which may help you to reduce the implementation time of SAP Business One 2005 A SP01.
It is provided as a non-supported version and you can download it here: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/0033074f-9958-2a10-9cb0-ad9f75622b40.

MarkusHi guys
I've tried all links given here, but none of them are working properly. I've tried saving and opening, but either way I got a corrupted file.
Is there any other way I can download it?
I actually have CEW, but I think it is the old version, so I'm getting the following message:
Wrong digital signature for add-on installer
I supposed that the new version would fix this, according to this post:

Incorrect Processing lead time showing in ASCP exception
Hi All,
We have a buy Item say TEST01 which is used in two Different organization A and B and its processing lead time at item level and ASL it 10 for Org A and 111 for Org B,
However issue is when we run collection plan for Org A and check for ASCP exception for item TEST01 for Org A its processing lead time is coming as 111,
Could you please help me with this.
RegardsAre you using Global or Local ASL because only global are supported. Plus do you see any demand pushed out because of a long lead time?
Also can show the screenshot of the lead times both at item level and asl level for all the orgs.

Oracle ODP Support and ODP vs DEVART
Hello,
I work with some vendor software that uses the ODP driver for it's .net application to talk to oracle. In there next release they are discontinuing ODP support claiming that oracle has chosen to no longer support this driver. The vendor is instead pushing us to use this [ devart|http://www.devart.com/dotconnect/oracle/] as a work around and they claim this should give us equal or better performance.
My questions are:
1. Is oracle really not supporting the ODP driver in the future (I couldn't find any indication of this on the web)
2. What is the trade of between using the ODP driver or the direct DEVart connection? I would appreciate if you could share your similar experiences with me.
Thanks,
DaxterI'm an Oracle .NET product manager, so I am coming from a biased perspective.
With that said, ODP.NET has a number of performance/availability features that DevArt doesn't have: RAC connection pooling (i.e. load balancing, Fast Connection Failover), statement caching, self-tuning, and promotable transactions. DevArt has features that ODP.NET doesn't have as well.
Which provider one chooses often depends on how important each unique feature is to the customer. ODP.NET is by far the most popular Oracle .NET provider, not just due to its wide feature support, but due to a number of business reasons customers find important:
1) ODP.NET licenses and support costs are already included in the price of the Oracle DB. There is no extra charge.
2) There is one support organization to deal with. Thus, the logistics of resolving and coordinating complex service requests is easier.
3) Oracle is large multinational company. Oracle is going to be around a long time to continue to develop and support ODP.NET. DevArt is small privately-held company based in the Ukraine. Not much information is available about the company's financials. What happens if the company goes bankrupt or is sold and the new owners discontinue the Oracle provider?
4) ODP.NET is very popular. Thus, Oracle will support and improve it for a long time. It's not known how popular or financially viable DevArt's Oracle provider is for them.
5) If you need to work closely with Oracle, you can call, visit a branch office around the world, or even have Oracle come on-site. DevArt's support is email only. They do not list a single phone number or office address on their website.
6) As the most popular Oracle .NET provider available, ODP.NET is very stable, as it is being used a in wide variety of applications. -
ASCP Taking Lead time to buy Item from Item Level and not from ASL
Hi All.
We have a buy Item Which is used at multiple Organization now we have defined processing Lead time for this Item at Item Level and ASL level (Global) However for different organization Like ABC and XYZ we have same supplier and Supplier Site for this item,
Below is the details of Item
Item's Processing Lead Time at Item Level
Org - ABC - 35
Org - XYZ - 15
Item's Processing Lead Time at ASL Level
Org - ABC - 10
Org - XYZ - 5
Now when we run ASCP plan for org XYZ and check for exception, Item's Lead time is coming from Item Level (15) not from ASL Level (Does this is expected behavior from Oracle?)
Regards.Hi Abhishek,
I tested one more time with the same scenario, this time ASCP is considering Processing lead time form ASL only however it is considering processing lead time for another organization (When I am running ASCP plan for Org XYZ ASCP is considering Processing lead time for ABC).
Does it is due to same supplier site for both the organization?
Also it has an active sourcing rule for the same supplier

Where to go to see Lead Time settings? Calendar days vs working days
Hi everybody,
II'm trying to find the screen where details regarding Lead Time settings are shown. I'm looking specifically for information on the type of days we're using to identify Processing LT's. I'm not certain whether we're using calendar days or working days.
I'm sure there is a simple way of finding this information out, but just don't know where to look/change the setting.
Thanks,
BGThis is NOT a setting that you can view.
Oracle always behaves like this.
Best way to verify this is to create an item with PreLt=5, Processing LT=7 and Post-processing lt=5.
Then create a sales order with a due date of say 9/21. Make sure 9/1 to 9/21 is regular 5 days week.
Assuming no holidays, it will mean that you need material on the dock on 9/15 (5 days of PPLT = 7 calendar days.)
So when MRP/ASCP creates a Req/PO, the promised date will be 9/15.
Also, the Days from today will point to 9/1 - which includes 7 days of processing + 7 days of preprocessing (5 working days)
Hope this answers your quesiton. -
Oracle Still Supports Forms 4.5/5.0?
I understand that Oracle will no longer support Forms 6i after 2006 (or 2008 with Extended Support). How about old Forms 4.5/5.0? When will Oracle de-support Forms 4.5/5.0 applications? I need this information to make decisions on migrations.
Thanks.
-ruoForms 5.0 is no longer supported at all.
Forms 4.5 is out of normal error correction support and is currently in Extended Assistance Support until 31-Dec-2003.
Extended Assistance support means:
* Answers to customers' questions
* Assistance with migration plans to a supported platform and/or product
* Workarounds, where possible
But does not include:
* Error Correction Support (ECS) - No new bug fixes
* Backporting of fixes
* Certification with supported products, newer operating system versions or new compilers
* Escalation support, response time adherence and skill availability
